@@jumperstartfulnah, that just means crimes are still reported in that neck of the woods. Other parts of the state just bend over and accept it. Lmao!!
"Nice place"😂 I was just there and you are incredibly ignorant if you genuinely believe that and are trying to sell people on that. It has nice areas like every city, but in general it's not a place.
I grew up in Fresno from 1945 to 1967. It was approximately 80,000 in population at the time. The Central Valley, also known as the San Joaquin Valley, is considered by many as the fruit and bread basket of the world. The large basin of the Valley collects a lot of smog from the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas plus it's own contribution. The last 20-30 years have seen an improvement of the air quality, but we are experiencing a huge influx of people from SF and LA as a result of the high cost of living. Fresno now has 546,000 people and Clovis next door has 125,000+. It is quickly becoming another Los Angeles with traffic problems, crime and other issues brought by population influx. It is a nice place to live, close to both the coast and mountains, but getting harder to get around. A town southeast of Fresno by the name of Selma used to be the Raisin Capital, but Fresno usurped it. Merced to the north west called itself the Gateway to Yosemite, but Fresno took that away, too, by naming the airport the Fresno Yosemite Airport. The air terminal is still called the Fresno Air Terminal (FAT) by the FAA. Yes, there are lots of homeless - we used to call them bums. Yes, there is trash and graffiti. Most of the poor live "south of the tracks," but there are lots of poor neighborhoods surrounding the immediate downtown. The reason you see clean streets downtown is that most of the city is now government offices (local, state and Federal) and the present mayor tries very hard to keep the area clean. People don't live there in large quantities. They commute from the northern suburbs. The downtown is largely Hispanic now. In the "old" days, there were a number of great, art deco theaters now somewhat run down: the Crest, Hardy's, White, Warnor's and Wilson. Cost of living is better than most places in California. The interesting homes you were looking at about 20 minutes in on the video are called Craftsmen homes - something developed by Sears and Roebuck. Very nicely designed and built. It does get hot in the summer - low 100's, but as we like to joke, "It's dry heat." North Fresno and Clovis are the places to go for shops, restaurants and services. All in all, Fresno is a good place to live, perhaps better than most areas of California. Unfortunately, people are finding us out and moving here. Thanks for your nice review. Many of us hope that Fresno keeps getting bashed to keep the population down, but we are obviously losing.
Born and raised in Visalia, approximately 45 minutes south of Fresno. @brookswilson1072 enjoy your comments on the area. I might add that the hot San Joaquin Valley summers have been part of the landscape for as long as I can remember; the explosive gas/electric bills that doubled for me in the past 3 years have been directly linked to the Biden administration.
Moved to The No in 67. Left and returned but to Lemoore in 76. I left for good in 88. As long as you stay in North West Fresno. It’s all right but the gangs graffiti and homeless have gotten out of control still way better than San Francisco though an hour into the mountains in 2 1/2 hours to the coast if you can’t handle it
Born and raised in Fresno, CA. I love my home. Thank you so much for showing the good Fresno has to offer. Ooh... you forgot to cruise down Blackstone 😬
I really enjoyed this video ! Fresno looks like a beautiful city. I love all the old theatres, and the photos of them lit up at night, gorgeous ! The food looks delicious, and the dessert looks awesome ! Thanks so much, Joe and Nic, a great video as always !🥰
I have been waiting for you and Nicole to come to the Central Valley of California. Thank you for touring Fresno, CA. I am a lifelong resident of a town 20 miles north of Fresno, named Madera. I have lots of family who live in Fresno. I hope you and Nicole enjoyed your time here. I am going to save this video and share it with my family members. 😊
America, I believe is the most beautiful country in the whole world. From mountain ranges, to lakes, and deserts, the state parks and the canyons, wow everything is overwhelmingly beautiful. And yes, Fresno is not that bad. It's clean and beautiful. And oh I just love how you talk in this video, a voice that everyone wants to listen to even the kids will probably do. 😊
I used to visit Fresno frequently on business. I really grew to love the place. In fact, the only thing I miss since retiring are my trips to Fresno. I used to call it my "home away from home".
Moving out of Fresno was the best quality of life improvement I’ve ever experienced. I miss the natural beauty of California from time to time, but thankfully nature exists outside of it. If you think Fresno is a nice place, you’ve either deluded yourself, or are incredibly unaware how dangerous it is.
Thank you for doing our city Fresno. I’ve lived here all my life yes we have high crime, but I would rather live here than Oakland, San Francisco, or other neighboring cities near us. We don’t have as many smash and grabs breaking back windows The big thing here was colitic converters theft, the only thing I don’t like about Fresno as most people don’t is our high heat. Anyway, I like your channel and thanks for doing our city. we’ve been made fun ln TV shows and movies for decades thinking we’re just a dirt farmer town well we’re not we feed the world our agriculture industry is something to be proud of ranked in the billions of dollars. Fresno isn’t that bad of a town cheers 😊
Welcome to FRESNO. Nice to see you do a documentary about it. Hopefully, your stay was good and welcoming. Next time you come to FRESNO, hit me up. I'll show you some places that NOT to many visitors will see.
Thank you Joe and Nic for always showing the positive side of everywhere you travel to. More people need to take a lesson from you two on positivity! Too much negativity in this world …..God Bless and safe travels!
Welcome to Fresno, Joe and Nic! Been a resident for over 20+ years (originally from the Bay Area). Regarding homelessness, they do exist but they are just outside the downtown area (near the shelters). Our current mayor was the former police chief and does what he can to have them not squat within the downtown area. When you get the chance (if you haven't already), check out the nearby Yosemite NP, Sequoia NP as well Shaver Lake, Bass Lake and Huntington Lake in the Sierra Nevadas.
I agree. I live in Fresno, homeless is a big issue, but they live at the south west area, s. G street area. Our mayer put tremendous effort to change our downtown, we have a volunteer group every week to clean streets, that is why the downtown is much cleaner what you see.
@@criptopherwalken1390yeah their comment shocked me. I visit fresno because my family lives there and it’s always a culture shock with how many homeless people are around. You move out of California and you forget just how bad it is there.
@@ashleynichole8687 yup. It definitely doesn’t help when the state promotes the use of “safe” drug use. The amount of money the state spends on paraphernalia just so homeless people can get high safely is staggering.
@rjevande same! I miss home but I’m comfortable here. Every time I go out I see a new place, park, store, food place. There’s so much beauty to it when you explore especially the mountains near by. Shaver lake, dinky creek courtrite dam just so pretty!
US 99 was the only way through San Juaquin Valley when I was a child, we used to stop at the different fruit/vegetable stands along the road. My favorite stop was near Fresno for watermelon, they kept them floating in old concrete cattle troughs with blocks of ice. My Dad would buy one and they'd split it open for us, we'd sit on the fenders of our '49 Chevy and eat and spit seeds to hearts content. It's weird to be so old...we may have enjoyed the last of the best. I hope there's some watermelons left for the rest of you. 😁😁😎😎👍👍
As a little boy I lived in downtown Fresno. Beginning when I was about 7 or 8 years old (1956-1957) my parents would allow me to see a movie alone at the Wilson Theater on Friday nights. I walked to and from the Theater by myself and never had any trouble. The "Main Drag" for teenagers was on Fulton Street, which is the street that the Wilson Theater is on. It was like the movie American Graffiti.
Hi there Joe and Nicole! I agree with you about the old Fresno courthouse, but remember that Cali is earthquake country, which can affect the life expectancy of our architecture. If you are impressed with Fresno, you will be blown away by our beautful coastal cities, yes! Including Oakland. Be sure to visit the Crocker Highlands, Rockridge, Trestle Glen Road and Montclair districts to see beautiful neighborhoods, Lake Merritt in the center of downtown, the thousands of acres of surrounding regional parks and the former Mills College now Northeastern. And of course the Oakland Hills and the Jack London Oak Tree downtown; Rockridge is one of the largest examples of pure Craftsman architecture also found in parts of Berkeley; the Oakland Museum of California is very special and check out the Estuary and Jack London Square; in spite of the crime numbers we have felt safe in our 47 years here with NO incidents and of course a Mediterranean climate that is the best in the country! Have fun!
Watching now. Man did you nail the beginning of this video with the place names and temperatures while driving and filming. You were blessed with great weather too. Now to finish watching.
you should of seen the Fresno Zoo, they did a fantastic make over…also the underground garden’s….visiting some of the lake’s near by and taking in a lunch over looking the lake is enjoyable….Yosemite, only a 1-1/2 hr away, is also a nice get away….recently, the city approved a make over of the Fresno Air port, with more airlines coming in and the Amtract station will also get a new and bigger facelift, the high speed rail will share Amtract’ track’s…which recently has expanded it’s track’s
I live in Fresno. A week ago it was 96 with a nice breeze. I sat outside a long time because the air felt great! In the Midwest, 80 is terrible because of the humidity.
People who have never lived in or visited California don’t realize that it probably has more agricultural than any other state in the country. Fresno is definitely an interesting city with an interesting history. For me, the biggest issue with Fresno is it now has a crime rate almost double that of the national average…
@@user-vr3mr5eu7ydo you really think that somebody else hasn't though if that already. Also, if the water was managed by those who actually understand water, there would never be a shortage here.
Fresno is an incredibly beautiful city with incredibly friendly people. When I first visited Fresno in 2021, I was absolutely amazed. Having been born and raised in Pasadena, I've noticed that the city has become increasingly less economical to live in over the years. Because of this, I am confidently planning to move to Fresno in the summer.
I grew up in Pasadena myself and now am living in Vegas, & it’s beginning to a bit more costly due to the influx of people who’ve migrated from Cali. My Mom has lived in Fresno for years and has been trying to convince me to move to be closer to her. She’s getting ready to retire, so I just may move to the No to enjoy a less fast paced environment and to enjoy spending quality time with my Mom while I am still able to. Godspeed on your move!
Joe and Nic, you should go up to Northern California's Redwood Forest area and check out The Redwood State Parks none as Ave of the Giants as well as Humboldt county. You should visit Ferndale which is a very clean village with no homeless people as for homeless you should visit Eureka and Arcata
Eureka's pretty far north, and it's full of homeless now? Wow. I love California but had to leave when I became disabled. Had a condo in S.F. on straight side of Lombard Street. Used to travel the state; miss it so, and I love Fresno, but always there for work, so I missed those beautiful old theaters and buildings.
Joe! You guys have to visit the Underground Gardens here! It’s right off the 99!! People come from all over the world to visit it and we locals ignore it! If you pass back on your way back home.. gotta stop and there’s an In&Out across the street.
I saw that on a TV show. A whole little world dug into the ground with open spaces that have orange trees growing up through them. Built to beat the Central Valley heat. California is Spanish for furnace. Spanish missionaries gave it that name when they travelled up the Imperial and Central valleys in the 1700s
Saw in the Fresno Bee, the Underground Gardens is reopening soon…quite a place. Lifelong resident of San Joaquin Valley; work downtown at the regional medical center for years. The mayor and city have been working hard on the homeless problem. Left the Denny’s you featured one morning, a couple of years ago…was parked near the entrance. Was followed to my car by a man hiding around the corner. I sped up, jumped in my car, locked the door, just as he tried to get in back door. He was jerking on the handle as I started the car and sped off! Pismo’s is a great restaurant! Great job, effort, and editing of your video of Fresno! Now a subscriber! Safe travels!
You Guy's just drove past me between Bakersfield & that big Halo's sign!..😎 You folks missed a lot of good stuff in between off the beaten path ,but you cant see everything right ,I grew up near Fresno in the 70's in a near by town called Clovis ,it was some of my favorite times growing up there! Wandering around Fresno, ( down town )early evening came across a Cinema, In Cinema queue possibly all folk appeared Mexican. I noticed star of Movie was Cantinflas ( hope I spelt his name correctly) Anyway, Peace to all.
You or your wife need to do a video on your wifes discipline and dedication to keeping herself in such good health/shape! To maintain her fitness while traveling and eating out so much is quite impressive. I really enjoy your videos and the nostalgic feelings they can trigger when viewing old buildings, cities, etc.. Folks over 50 like me seem to get more and more nostalgic as we get older.
Growing up in Galena Park, TX, all us guys used to ride our bikes to the city dump, and root through all the stuff. On a good day, you could find enough parts to assemble a complete bicycle....or even a lawnmower.
Fresno isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I was there for a week on a business trip and it was an okay city. Nothing spectacular but some decent food, nice architecture, and certainly better than some other cities in the valley.
I’ve been to this place once when I was in school in the early 80s. My friend’s parents house is in Fresno but he studies at Orange County and because he doesn’t have a car so he asks me to drive him home every summer break (because he has a sister…😁). The impression I left here was going to pick Cheery which I will never forget. Thanks JOE & NIC brought back beautiful memories for me.
Thank you.. This city means a lot to me💕 In Fresno, I studied in 1998 at the University of California, which I hoped would be photographed and depicted because it is located on the largest Blackstone Street in Fresno. Which has one of the best and most prestigious colleges of agriculture in the world. There is also an upscale area to enjoy during the weekend . Edwards Theater With its restaurants, cafes, cinema and shops... My affection for Fresno and the memories of studying as my first city in America are still there... Thank you Thank you for bringing back some good memories of Fresno I wish you good and happy times...beautiful trips💐🥇👍🏻 Greetings from kingdom of Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦🌛
Greetings once again from Down Under 🇦🇺 Really enjoy the new format with the road trip footage at the beginning of the videos. Another, well presented video with just the right amount of relevant information. Along with the odd nugget of trivia, "Did you know..." Another great addition to the videos! Thanks again for posting! Much love and safe travels to both of you!
Have lived here all 24 years of my life. Weather is great except for hot summers. Great restaurants and breweries. Many great peaceful neighborhoods to live in. So many friendly people.
I’ve lived here for 35 years. I lived away for 5. It’s changed so much since I was a kid. There’s lots to do & lots of places to go. It’s really grown for the good. I see a lot more diversity than I used to in southeast Fresno. All cultures are celebrated here & welcomed. It’s not perfect, but it’s a place to call home. Good choice on Pismo’s! It’s my favorite restaurant.
I live in downtown Fresno and I love it! Weekends are the best time because once the office workers leave on Friday it's super quiet. It's also surprisingly safe, even after dark. Thank you for showcasing our city ❤.
My whole life I always heard Fresno was the "armpit of CA", but with most things, it's what you make of it, and Fresno has some awesome things going on now with plans to become more awesome over the next two decades.
A friend of mine from L.A. calls Fresno the anus of California (look who's talking!). I don't know if she's ever actually been there or not. Thanks for showing us it's actually a decent place! [Aside from the courthouse that looks like a giant air filter...]
People from LA are extra, I lived in OC once and I have my own POV. They think Fresno is nothing but cows and farm, when you talk about the Valley they think your talking about the valley there. I would tell them no, I’m talking about the real valley of Ca. If we are the arse of Ca they must love arse juice because we send our water down there. I’ve been to so many cities in US and every single city has their beautiful parts and decent parts. It just depends what your want.
Fresno looks very nice! The food looks delicious but I’m always shocked at the portion sizes in the US, lol. I really like your channel, it feels like I’m traveling with you guys. Gives me a chance to see some places I’ll likely never go to. Greetings from Gothenburg, Sweden. P.S your wife’s hair is gorgeous!
Hot take, Fresno is one of the best places to have a family and raise a kid in the state. Good education, great food. Relatively safe (during the day, active nightlife town but for family oriented this shouldnt matter too much) (if you/your family arent involved in crime you likely wont be involved in crime). Good historic city with actual things to do around town. Bigger than you think with that small town community feeling. Not a 10/10 but a solid 7.5
13:26 I work in this building! It has some beautiful features inside. I actually live 45 min south in Hanford and commute to Fresno a few days a week. Love this Valley!
I have the most beautiful memories of Fresno my mom grew up there .As a young kid my favorite thing was to go downtown store called Gottschalks Lol I still can’t remember spelling it . But thank you for the good vibes of that wonderful city.
Thanks for visiting 😊. If you come back you might consider showcasing Van Ness, visiting Old Town Clovis and giving some basic information on the local tribes here. Safe travels 🙏🏻
The homeless camp was about 4 blocks away from the court house ... lol.. did you know the movie " addicted to fresno " was film in fresno ? Should watch it . Thanks for the video you made

I was born and raised in tTulare, California. Middle of Fresno and Bakersfield. Fresno was our family’s Sunday drive. We’d go and spend the day at Roading park Zoo. You could go to LA for the weekend next weekend head to San Francisco. Dairy Capital of the world. The old 99 use to run through up to Shaw and the city of Clovis. You are not to far from Sequía National park. Only a couple of hours from the coast.

Fresno is a republican stronghold a huge city, and lots of diversity. Lots of farming here. Grate place to live been here all my life. Big city with big city problems. But lots of lakes snow nearby and the beach is nearby.
As a kid in the 60's my family vacationed in Yosemite and on the trip back to Los Angeles we would always stopped to visit Story Land at the park, I loved the place.
Hi Joe. I've binged watched most of your travel videos. I enjoy them and thank you. Long time resident in the Bay Area. The state does not deserve all the bashing it gets. It's political driven for the most part. We have our share of tough challenges but will pull through. It's a large state with a lot of beauty and a geographically diverse population. Happy Trails.
I have lived my entire life in Fresno and I have been happy here. I attended Fresno State University and worked as a social worker for around 30 years. I met my husband here and raised our grand daughter here. We are very fortunate that we can travel to wonderful places like Hawaii which is only a 5 hour flight from here but are always happy to return home. The majority of people here are good friendly people. Icam very blessed to live in Fresno.😊
Lol I've lived here 49 years (my entire life) and I'm impressed with how we're looking on your video too! 😂 We have our homeless, we have trash... but they've been really trying to revamp our downtown area and it really is nice down there now. And you know, in 49 years, half of which was lived in the poorest most gang populated area, I've never been mugged, never had a car stolen, i did have a cat broken into once 20+ years ago and all they stole were my cassette tapes 😂. It does get miserably hot here, and we get terrible tule fog in the winter, but other than that it's been a pretty good home to me. Thank you for such a great video❤
Beautiful areas. Alot of changes have been happening to the city, that's why cost of living has gone up. Im proud of my city and glad other people will get to see it's not all bad
We discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and are very impressed with the detail and candidness of your presentation so keep up the good work and we'll keep watching.
Great job sharing the truth about our city. Being able to see the beauty amidst some of the not-so-beautiful things (that every city has) is a good quality; probably developed by visiting a lot of other cities! Thank you and safe travels.
Thanks for doing a video on Fresno. I’ve lived here 32 years and Fresno does get an unfair rap mainly from false perspectives and here say. Fresno’s crime numbers may be high, but I’ve never experienced much of it. Like any town or city that mainly happens in it’s bad parts. Living in NE Fresno I don’t experience much of the high crime numbers. I will say that it use to be really inexpensive to live here and although I am not comparing to SF or LA it is getting more expensive the more that people move here. There are a lot of great quality people that live in this city.
I grew up in Fresno/Clovis from the 80s through the mid 90s. I still have many friends and families there. A lot of childhood memories were made there. The central valley will always have a place in my heart and place that I will always call home.
During the last century California had it all. Beauty, weather, jobs. Fantastically diverse geography, industries, culture and population. By far the most desired state to live in. Unfortunately that popularity caused 100 years of uncontrolled growth, all but ruining paradise by the turn of the century. Now everyone loves to bash her. I left in 1990 and glad I did but I still like to visit.
Back when the series "Dallas" was a ratings juggernaut they did a spoof mini-series titled "Fresno", starring Carol Burnett as the matriarch of a family with a raisin growing empire. Charles Grodin, Teri Garr, and Dabney Coleman were the co-stars. Lovely see to see the city as you've documented it.
Thank you for this. I have been here pretty much my whole life. I love my town. Downtown Fresno was once a place you did not dare go to. The city has made a great effort to change that and it has really helped. I use to go to an old punk rock bar back around 1995 called the Fulton Bar. Met alot of people that are still my friends to this day. If you ever come back I would love to show you some of the great hidden places and some of the great small towns just outside of Fresno. Thank you again - Henry "loco" Contreras

Making a plan, checking it twice:D
Better than neighboring cities? Clovis which is basically connected to Fresno blows the doors off of Fresno by every metric.
Do people in US understand how beautiful country they have? The nature is unique! I love it! ❤❤❤❤
Obama will destroy it
Obama hates it
Obama’s not finished with us yet
It’s turning into Africa
Nope, not a chance, kinda sad, but that's people for ya. Regards to you, stay cool & keep your heart forever like that.
Welcome to FRESNO. Nice to see you do a documentary about it. Hopefully, your stay was good and welcoming. Next time you come to FRESNO, hit me up. I'll show you some places that NOT to many visitors will see.
Wow Fresno was so beautiful and clean. Dinner look so good, Thanks again wonderful trip
You need to get out more than. Homeless are all over the place. I’m a service plumber and we go everywhere in town. Let me tell they are EVERYWHERE.
Great video of our community. Thanks for appreciating what we have tendency to take for granted. Safe travels
For us it was the 50 ford. But loved the fruit stands along 99.
Remember the big round orange fruit buildings on the side of the 99 HWY?
@@dana44ism Yes I do, they were colorful and exciting to see.
In the 70s we cruised belmont and yes just like the movies. later it switched to Blackstone
Be sure to visit the Crocker Highlands, Rockridge, Trestle Glen Road and Montclair districts to see beautiful neighborhoods,
Lake Merritt in the center of downtown, the thousands of acres of surrounding regional parks and the former Mills College now Northeastern. Have fun!
Oakland!!! are you out of your mind!!! a total pit!! of crime and evil! wake up!!
I visited this city in 1993. I’m from England , so wasn’t used to the heat - it was 114 F! It didn’t feel too bad though, due the low humidity.
Ya sure, they divert water. Maybe it should be in Louisiana south Georgia more n save sum water but hey

Welcome!
Welcome to Fresno. 😀
We did try to visit the Underground Gardens, and I was going to video them, but they were closed. It looks like they're being renovated.

Not a bad idea!

Agree, ASA Fresno native. We're not that bad, and we have a lot of nice nature around us.
You can’t make a decision on a city based off of you being there a damn week
I love the quiet life of central CA!
Excellent, appreciate the time and editing it takes to bring us the drive, drone, stats and local scenery! Safe travels!
Thank you.. This city means a lot to me💕
In Fresno, I studied in 1998 at the University of California, which I hoped would be photographed and depicted because it is located on the largest Blackstone Street in Fresno.
Which has one of the best and most prestigious colleges of agriculture in the world.
There is also an upscale area to enjoy during the weekend . Edwards Theater
With its restaurants, cafes, cinema and shops...
My affection for Fresno and the memories of studying as my first city in America are still there...
Thank you Thank you for bringing back some good memories of Fresno
I wish you good and happy times...beautiful trips💐🥇👍🏻

My impression when flying into Fresno:
I've never seen so many swimming pools!
I live in downtown Fresno and I love it! Weekends are the best time because once the office workers leave on Friday it's super quiet. It's also surprisingly safe, even after dark. Thank you for showcasing our city ❤.
With 8 inches of snow, and still coming down, I'm enjoying the Lushness of where you are.
Winter is the best season
Good Saturday morning wherever you are today. Awesome video
Thank you.
Right back at you. Blessings be yours.
Wow, thank you for the kind words!!
The California haters come alive if you say anything good about it, Hate is an illness Love is a Blessing ❤❤❤❤❤❤
