This video was a pleasant surprise for me. I knew very little about Montana, and nothing about Helena, so I really enjoyed seeing these places for the first time. Standouts for me were a) the Big Sky (the country is so very vast!), and b) that glorious cathedral, with its beautiful stained-glass windows. Fortunately, I watched this video while eating lunch, so seeing the food at the end didn't provoke hunger pangs, as often happens when I watch the videos at odd times of the day or night. Thanks very much for these most enjoyable films - they are really appreciated. Cheers from a cool to mild ( 19°C) autumn in Melbourne, Australia!
The cathedral was wonderful with beautiful stained glass and stone work. In Helena people's homes are literally their Castle! The city was very nice but I thought the rotunda in their capitol building was a tad bit gaudy for me. However for Helena it is perfect as they do flaunt their wealth with their architecture. Overall a very good video about Helena and I need not go there now as I have visited it through the artwork of your camera. Thanks for making another Saturday morning enjoyable.
Another interesting video. Just discovered you two last month so a ways behind in watching. Find your format of providing statistics interesting and like your knowledge of architecture. Makes for a fun and educational experience.
I love the sound of church bells. I also love the old West feel of the town. So odd to have a middle Eastern spire on a building downtown. Just seemed so out of place. Thanks a bunch. Safe travels.
Helena is such a beautiful city. Thank you for covering this in detail. You guys are a joy to watch. I love your pleasant and friendly approach, filled with relevant data.
Helena was the hometown of the movie star Gary Cooper, and also Robert Fletcher who wrote the lyrics for the song, 'Don't Fence Me In'. The latter was one of the Cowboy Poets who were in vogue in the early half of the twentieth century. During the Great Depression most of the Broadway songwriters--Irving Berlin, Dorothy Fields, Oscar Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter--were out in Hollywood writing songs for movies. Cole Porter was assigned to write for a Western in 1934. Somehow he came across Fletcher's poem and paid him $250 for it. The movie was never made, but ten years later when Hollywood was producing films for War Bond drives it was rescued from the shelves of MGM (iirc) and it fell to Roy Rogers (and Trigger) to perform in 'Hollywood Canteen'. Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters picked it up and it became a huge hit. Porter eventually assigned half the royalties to Fletcher, making him wealthy beyond his job with the Montana Highway Dept. He also wrote the original Historic Markers that dot Montana's highways to this day. Porter was said to have hated the song.
I grew up in Helena in the 70's. We aren't Catholic but I remember that everyone in town is very proud of that beautiful cathedral. You can hear the chiming from many miles away.
Me too, I really like to go back once every 10 years to enjoy the old buildings.

Helenas's catedral is absolutely gorgeous
@user-gy5zy6bh3uit’s not a complete joke! I’m guessing there was no state monies involved with the construction. Appreciate beauty where you find it. No need for snarky remarks.
Thank you for the kind words!!
Beautiful Cathedral ❤
HA! I live in Helena! didn't know about the fire tower or that underpass/monument 😆 thanks for pointing it out. Have to go check em out now
The cathedral was wonderful with beautiful stained glass and stone work.
Awesome!
It is beautiful❤. It’s in my list of states to visit-soon
Another interesting video. Just discovered you two last month so a ways behind in watching. Find your format of providing statistics interesting and like your knowledge of architecture. Makes for a fun and educational experience.
Awesome, thank you!
Love you guys!! Your videos have increased in quality. What about a meet and greet near Christmas in Dallas! We want you signatures! You are famous!
I love the sound of church bells. I also love the old West feel of the town. So odd to have a middle Eastern spire on a building downtown. Just seemed so out of place. Thanks a bunch. Safe travels.
The church is absolutely beautiful! A must see for sure if you happened to be in the area or passing through.
👍A very peaceful experience -- a quality which Joe is able to bring out even more so, by his gently humorous nature. 👍
You mean Joe?😊
@@TinkerTailor4303 whoops, yes, just corrected that now. thanks
Such beautiful buildings
Thank you
Thanks again Joe & Nic, the Church left me speechless, magnificent. Best, Fred
It was awesome to see, Fred.
There is an old fire lookout in Lincoln County, New Mexico. It's called Monjo Lookout.
The Helena civic center is a beautiful building.
Thanks for all the videos. FYI Nic I had to buy a purse like the one in the video! Love it so much.
I really enjoyed visiting Montana. Thanks for taking me with you. It seemed like a nice place to live. Sincerely, Jim Thornton
Glad you enjoyed it, Jim!!
Helena is such a beautiful city. Thank you for covering this in detail. You guys are a joy to watch. I love your pleasant and friendly approach, filled with relevant data.
Thank you!
Wow! How about the beautiful, echoing singing in the church! Did you add that? So perfect!!
The museum in Helena has some wonderful Native American artifacts. That’s the one thing I want to go back to see again.
