I used to go to the Carol Burnett show when I was in college . I still love her. I miss that kind of entertainment . No cheap shots , no F - bombs , no filthy sexual innuendos. Just funny stuff that literally would have you rolling in the aisles .

Oh yeah! when my parents had a dinner party, I got to stay up late, and watch shows that were usually off-limits. On Friday, it was some cop show-- they came and went-- but Saturday was always CAROL BURNETT!!

I know they were probably there but don't remember personally meeting them. All of Carol's support staff from the Carol Burnett show were there . I remember meeting Ken an Mitzi Welch. The writers . Everyone involved were amazing! We all had jobs to do. It felt like one big family. Where everyone respected each others talent . Looking back it was a lot of fun . I was a dancer plus we were in the comedy skits with Dolly an Carol. Dolly an Carol are so nice. How you see them on TV is how they are in real life . Down to earth real people. The other Carol Burnett special I did was Sills an Burnett at the Met. Then yrs later with Dolly in Nashville. It was a long time ago but happy to answer anyone's questions. If my memory doesn't fail me. Lol.

Some of the dancers were from Los Angeles the rest from NYC . Forgot the name of the hotel we stayed at. But it was really nice. The grand ole opry hotel? My wife and I were just yesterday watching an episode of The Carol Burnett Show from March of 78 and the audience asked her if there was anyone she wanted to collaborate with to do a special and she said she was trying to get in touch with Dolly and here they are less than a year later! It was better than we could have imagined! The crazy thing is we came upon this video at random from the UA-cam algorithm.

There are these singing and talent shows on TV, but they're not fun (for me anyway) to watch, cuz there's generally no instrumental music and the vocals sound the same (to me) from singer to singer
That little boy is all grown up now, with a family of his own. Sang and played for many years with his mother's family. The Lewis family, look them up, be a nice suprise.

Carol Burnett is a comic genius who is one of the few to share the same stage as Dolly Parton and not be completely upstaged (Dolly never tries to do that, it's just her natural star power). During this same era, she also appeared with opera superstar Beverly Sills as well. She can truly put herself in any situation and make it funny.
I bet it's more like they specifically invited a LOT of professionals to attend and specifically asked those invitees to bring instruments and join in. After all if you're playing Nashville why not take advantage of all that available talent? Sure made for a good show.
I grew up with Carol Burnett and Dolly! How I miss these kinds of shows! It took me back watching Carol on TV with my brother, Mom and Dad--such beautiful nostalgia and memories, thank you so very much for posting this. They are the real deal!

I had a West Texas mama and an East Texas daddy ( 2 different accents) and I grew up on the South Texas border (yet another accent). In Austin where I live now all roads converge so you can hear every dialect and regional speech.
