Thanks for the video, it prepared me for the task. I agree that the tools you have affect the way the repair is performed. I was able to do it in under an hour without disconnecting the battery and without disconnecting the alternator connections... utilising a 1/4 drive socket and extension set. I did purchase the housing and dipstick tube, and opted to keep the original housing (as the replacement was not OEM) and replace the dipstick tube (as that was OEM). GREAT info on the heater control panel doubling as an engine temperature gauge - VERY useful. I used Mannol G12+ ready mixed coolant. Perfect repair - nows runs at correct temperature 🙂
@@jeffjackson3696 hey Jeff, thanks for the comment and support. Great to hear that the video was helpful and the work you did on your car went smoothly. Enjoy the driving 🤞👍
The suggestion to pull the oil tube and alternator cable was super helpful! I had the same idea to come in from the front but was really struggling eith the bottom bolt
Thanks for the comment and support Logan. Hope the job on your TT went well for you 👍🤞
@Witty924 went super smoothly! Couple other bugs to figure out, but what old car project doesn't, haha
@@loganmagnan great to hear! Do you have allot of work to do on your TT?
Thank you for the video, I'll attempt the replacement over the weekend. I have at least some idea what to expect😅
@@KurtSailorman thanks for the comment and support Kurt. I hope the job goes well, let me know 🤞👍
Thanks. 🙏
I need to change the pipe on right side on termostat. 😢
@@MG041987 thanks for the comment and support MG. Hope the job goes smoothly for you. Let me know how you get on. 👍🤞
Perfecto, me ha servido de gran ayuda. Thanks so much my friend.
It was very helpfull. Big thanks for that
Great to hear Alex 👍
Thank you, fantastic information and explanation cheers mate
Thanks for the comment and support William, great to hear that it helps 👍
Nice video, congratulation... Very interresting
Thanks for the comment and support rymemo 👍
Just on question, if i want to see the température of my engine i must press 2 buttons on the same time ? Could send me a tuto for this processus ? Regards
@@rvmemo no problem. Just hold the recirculation button and the up arrow button on the heater control unit. That will open up the menu. From there use the heater switch dial turn left or right to scroll to code 49. 👍
And then press the recirculation button again and the tempreture of the engine will show up. 👍
@@Witty924 thanks very much... ⭐⭐⭐
Very informative, thank you
Thanks for the comment Richard certainly teaches you to work in small spaces 😀👍
HI well done, I have an issue to start the engine when it gets hot won't start, it needs to cool down to start, have idea what can be ?
Hi Steve, thanks for the comment and support. So it might be a dodgy connection with your starter motor. there have been instances with others where the starter could be on its way out and not starting when things get hot. might be worth having a chat on the Audi forums. I don't think this would be a cooling system issue. 🤞
Hi thanks for your video... My cars going in to the red then settles and jumps back in to red.... The water is never boiling... Could that be the a troubled thermostat
@@dariocheese9240 Hi Dario, thanks for the comment and support. So it might be a fault instrument gauge if the needle is jumping around as you say. Is it erratic movements or steady and slow? Do you have an OBD2 reader that you can plug into the car? Also have you checked the tempreture on the secret menu of the aircon unit, that will give you a reading also that you can compare to the gauge. Let me know how you get on. 👍
@@Witty924 thanks for the reply sorry it's delayed been on holiday... Ye the needle goes up slowly then suddenly drops to half way then jumps back into the red... The secret menu says temp is at 90c I'm hoping it's, a sticky thermo🤞🙏
@@dariocheese9240 let me know how you get on 🤞👍
It's much easier to loosen the generator. Then you have direct access to
the thermostat housing.
Hi ! thanks for the video! I got a 2001 TT quattro convertible. Anything else that would make sense to do while you are there ?
Hi Ian, thanks for the comment and support. So it's a good time to change the thermostat housing, and also if the oil dip stick holder is in bad condition change that too. Hope that helps and good luck on doing the job 👍🚙💨
👏 bro😊
How have you checked and removed any possible air bubbles in the system? Isn't that important?
Thanks for the comment Ian and foe watching. So the system is a self bleeding system so it will do this itself. To help, give the hoses a squeeze and this will bring air out via the fill reservoir. Start the engine and repeat the process. It's a nice a easy process on these. Hope that helps 👍🤞
It’s a lot easier changing the thermostat on the 924! Well done, nice video. You always seem to work outside, and not in a garage?
Hear hear Chris, definitely prefer working on the 924 haha. Yeap, most work done on the drive way, that said I have managed to get a garage this winter for the 924 and the work I need to get done, still damn cold though 🥶👍
Belle vidéo l amis 👍👍
Hello, does this work for 1999?
@@ge2zy thanks for the comment. If you have the 180hp 1999 then it should be the same. Let me know how you get on. 👍
@ thanks for the reply man, I got 1.8 turbo, my car goes overheating over 120 on idle, and after changing the oil and cleaning the coolant reservoir, my friend told me to check the thermostat, if you have any suggestions please let me know, appreciate it
@ge2zy sounds good place to start. Check the secret menu as I show in the video to make sure the temperature matches the gauge cluster. Once you have done that the temp sensor is also a good option and very cheap to change in 5 minutes. Let me know how you get on 👍
@ will do, thanks a lot
@@Witty924 I just checked a few minutes ago, and the gauge doesn’t match the secret panel, I will go a head with changing the temperature sensor, is that correct?
I have had my TT for 21 years - never had many problems and I always did my own work - but I never knew about the secret menu until today. How is that possible? I have had the Haynes manual for several years but never used it much. I tried the secret menu trick and even though my TT is USA spec the engine temperature showed up as Centigrade. My temperature guage only has tick marks and the temperature guage has not worked well for a couple of years. When I entered menu code 49, the engine temperature stayed the same for awhile and as the temperature rose, the temp guage began to raise also which it had not been doing for some time. The menu temp got up to 82,83 and then dropped suddenly to below 50 degrees as I imagine the thermostat opened. The menu temp raised and lowered a couple of times cycling between 43 and 88 and then one time it got to 95. So, I have some things to look at including my fans that I do not remember running for some years. Where do I find the codes for the secret menu? My plastic pieces have those little plastic push in pieces and I like your metal ones with what looked like inserts. Where do I get those metal pices to easily remove and replace the plastic engins covers.
Hi There, this link will give you the full list of codes available through the climate control unit. Hope that helps :) audi-tt-enthusiast-site.blogspot.com/2011/02/audi-tt-climate-control-codes.html
What is the parts number thanks !!
Hi Kin, it's best to go to TPS if you are in the UK if not then try a audi parts provider, important to get a good themostat and not a cheap one as you want it to last 👍
yep...i took my alternator out..didnt have the patience haha
sounds like you had a good plan, hope it worked out well for you 🤞👍
Mines 100% failed, it gets to 90, then drops to about 75 and almost a full tank has only lasted me just over a weak and my exhaust is very black.
Hey Jason thanks for the comment and support. Hope the video helps sort the issue you have. Let me know how you get on 👍🚙💨🤞
No... we didnt see it happen to you. What happened to the removal and instal? Was that a an edit clitch?
Hey Leon thanks for the comment and support. Good spot on the video, so as I advised on the video, you need to be quick in changing the thermostat to save loosing to much coolant, as soon as you remove the old one, coolant will start leaving the system, so be quick 🤞. Hope your thermostat change goes well 👍
