BTBAM is such an awesome band.
Absolutely
So was DEP!
So is Dillinger! I actually found DEP because of the shirt Dustie wears on the Colors DVD.
What a cool dude also.
They're alright... Only my favorite favorite band. I had the opportunity to buy him a couple of beers after a show in lubbock during the colors tour I believe. Probably 2008. Super down to earth and not egotistical at all, even though he is in the greatest band ever....
underrated guitarist.same as paul waggoner.
Dude I can agree. Paul Waggoner is a god to me. One of my favorites. He's so unique.
Underrated? They're some of the biggest names in prog metal.
Id say they're pretty rated
smkinrade lmaooo for real maybe the most popular prog metal band. Going around playing houses of blueses is pretty big
@@smkinrade Yeah but not really as individual musicians.
met dustie after a btbam show and told him what a huge inspiration his band is and thanked him for giving us so much amazing music.
he was really nice and very grateful for the support. super down to earth guy
until you ask him why he endorsed an anti lgbt brand in an interview and he writes back a bunch of hateful shit and quickly deletes it because he knows how bad he fucked up, but still refuses to recant or apologize. then he is just a nasty, defensive, petty asshole. so its pretty much all a charade then
I’ve met him after a show also and he’s a cool guy. Smoke a joint with him too lol.
@@DobrieNIN i don't understand half of the stuff you're saying. Maybe sources like pictures would help to get your point across
@@crazydrummer181 I was under the impression they were all straight edge. But I guess if I had to pick a member of btbam that would break that rule it would either be Dusty or Blake.
krich451 yeah I’ve always thought that too.
I love Dusty and Paul. I’ve been listening to BTBAM for almost that whole 20 years. Remember getting the music video for mordecai on a victory records sample pack and thinking how wild it was.
I got that sampler in this box of samplers and EPs by the register of my local skate shop when I was younger. That one had comeback kid on it.
Bro you just took me down a LONG trip on memory lane. Just realized I'm fucking 30 THIS YEAR! Still can play the WHOLE Selkies outro to this day..good times...
Yes! I had that one too. I loved those Victory samplers. When I was getting into music they led me down so many great rabbit holes.
Dude same! In 2003 I was a dumb kid in jean shorts that lived for moshing at beatdown shows. I first saw them on tour with TERROR, of all bands lol. Been a fan ever since. Even got to see them with Chon before the lockdown. They're better than ever. They even played Roboturner off of Alaska, it was sick!
"I've never been one that's like real good at getting attention."
I PAY ATTTENTION TO YOU DUSTIE
Haha same here! We all love you Dustie!!
@@BTBAM819 i definitely get more inspired by dustie. paul is phenomenal but it looks like it comes easy to him, dustie looks like hes busting his ass and i love it.
@@gsharpenmydjencil yess!! And he made the amazing opening riff from The Grid which is beautiful!!
I think he meant he doesnt know how to react when he is given attention and I can relate hahaha
Between the Buried and Me is the only band that has not let me down with their direction. I’ve been an avid fan of theirs since 2004.
“Colors” is a masterpiece from this band.
Best metal album ever recorded IMO
@@embarkingolive YEP.
Yes but so is the great misdirect, the parallax and automata. My favorite is the parallax and the great misdirect.
Have they ever reccorded a non-masterpiece ?
I mean... Albums are all different. That's true.
There are even some that I like slightly more than others....
But they ALL sound like masterpieces to me.
Colors 2!!
mad respect for the Alice in Chains/Jerry Cantrell shout out
Btbam Colors is one of the greatest albums ever made!!! Dustie is such an amazing and humble guy! Love the signature guitar!
Dustie is criminally underrated as a guitarist. Love BTBAM
I love that riff from The Grid. It was always one of my favorite riffs from BTBAM. I always smile when I hear that riff.
It sounds very similar to the riff in "Voices" from Dream Theater! You agree?
BTBAM is one of the most underrated bands ever. Pure musical genius. I’m 36 and been listening to them since 19.
Finally a guitarist we WANT to watch play their favorite riffs...
I met Dustie outside a show in Hartford right before The Great Misdirect came out. We weren’t able to get tickets but he got me and 3 others inside for the show. Amazing person and incredible guitarist.
Dude his PRS CE 24 IS SOOOOO SICK!!!! What I like most about this dude is how humble he is as a person! Definitely going to check out some more jams by his band just because of his demeanor!
i mean that's what makes him a great guitarist he's got a lot of influences from heavy metal to grunge to prog metal love that dude keep it up
Never heard of them before, they're so good!
Dustie- your music helped me through life. Thank you
So psyched to see them play pre-Colors material!
Colors was the shit though. Saw them on the great misdirect was sick
Saw them on TGM tour too, still probably the greatest performance I have ever seen.
I've seen these guys literally like 15 times, without even leaving my state. These guys tour like mad men. I dunno how they do it. I sure hope they don't get burnt out.. But I think doing the Colors tour, then this Evening With, playing The Great Misdirect and old stuff.. That kind of thing probably keeps it fresh. The two times I saw Colors played in it's entirety were the two best shows I've ever seen by any band.
I remember watching one of Tommy's FB live Q&As, and someone asked him what he thought about The Dillinger Escape Plan breaking up. One of his thoughts was that he didn't understand why bands break up if they don't have to. He said BTBAM is still in it for the long run.
@@mrsilence666 I totally get why Dillinger broke up. LOL. They are pretentious and couldn't stand the thought of losing their status as a critical darling going forward. They'll be back, but I don't think they got along especially well. That's good news to hear about Tommy and BTBAM though.
lol yeah, those tour shirts have a freaking laundry list of cities.Same with The Black Dahlia Murder. BTBAM shows are like nonstop too it's crazy
They straight up rule. I've seen them 4-5 times. First when colors came out and they opened for COB. Next during their parallax future sequence tour I saw them with Coheed. I think the two other times were around the same time as parallax 2 with the contortionist.
My god what a beautiful guitar. I love PRS
BTBAM deserves all the fame in the world. Easily one of my favorite bands of all time.
The fucking tone from that PRS amp and guitar are just wow!
SWIM TO THE MOON 2020
Right now I'm rocking the HELL out of it with Coma Ecliptic and Automata I and II. They've become one of my favorite bands of all. They are so unique, cool, sofisticated, brutal and delightful that sometimes I want to cry and at the same time I feel so fortunate for discover such and amazing band. Hope you guys continue to amazed us! 🤟🏻❤️
my first exposure to BTBAM was in one of those Victory records promotional DVDs where they intro'd their new single and music video for Alaska. Dusty was the only one that spoke and everyone else just cracked up. they have always been genuine and silly art makers. top three bands of all time for sure. love these guys.
I just purchased my first PRS guitar today! A faded blue burst DW CE24. And I had not heard of Dustie before, or his band... but the guitar looked pretty sweet and so I'm excited to get it via UPS in another week or so. So I'm here checking out Dustie.. who seems to be a pretty cool dude. Rock on Dustie! I already purchased Colors II... looking forward to receiving that as well. :-)
Pretty cool that he's a big Cantrell fan!
It's really cool that he mentioned More Of Myself To Kill. I am waiting patiently for the day they rip Fire For A Dry Mouth live. Online or in person, would be a real gem to hear nowadays. Love Colors 2, great fucken band.
Everyone says colors and even though I've seen this band 12 times, met them and was at the colors dvd shoot... Alaska holds a special place in my heart. Always. This is Human Life At Its Best.
I remember meeting this man in a Hard Rock Café right before a BTBAM show in Houston during “The Cool Tour” I was 13 at the time. It was such a memorable experience for me and my brother.
Best. Band. Ever.
LMAO.
Without doubt
BTBAM is definitely up there for me. I'm glad they're still going strong and have no plans to slow down yet.
@@mrsilence666 they just keep getting better . There last 2 albums are amazing.
One of the best. I don't kbow them but not the best.
Paul was my favourite guitarist back in highschool/ college days, but Dustie's approach and mind set resonate so much more with me. I too find myself caring less and less about shredding and more and more about a good melody, regardless of how many notes it takes to play or how fast it is played.
I agree on Jerry being an amazing guitarist.
I've been listening to BTBAM from the very beginning! Please come back to Toronto!!!!
The best band with the best guitar men
Man remember when every band use to rock PRS Guitars back in the early 2000’s ? Ive always enjoyed their sound
Glass Casket in a memory ... :)
Heard they were getting back together for some new songs/shows this year...!?@#%%
Seen BTBAM twice. Absolute awesome band
What a nice guy!
My first song was Crazy Train as well. Hearing him say that reminded me of my beginnings. Crazy.
Those first 2 albums were so raww n went so hard. Colors went so smooth start to finish
You mean the first 3 before colors?
BTBAM GOAT
The fact that he loves Alice In Chains makes me love the band even more
That prs amp sounds killer with the prs guitar.
I'd kill to have a Paul R. Smith man. Such a gorgeous sounding git-fiddle!
He should play in like BTBAM because he is so good
We Die Young grooves hard thanks to Jerry's playing.
The Grid section sounds very Dream Theater-esque imo.
Hard to believe Dustie is only 20 years old.
Sometimes I forget I have a 1200 watt sub in my system and then I crank this and my house crumbles . That was intense, can't imagine what it was like in person.
Saw these guys open for Chon this past December. They fucking KILLed it
these guys are legends
Aic! That's pretty sweet that he's a big fan of them and cantrell
Selkies solo
One of, if not the best solo ever written.
@@calvinvarga1460 In my opinion, it's overrated as hell.
Also funny that Dustie fucking hates Selkies.
@@flagmuffin1221 How so? I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I think it is light years ahead of most other solo's. In not just it's technical complexity, but also the composition of the solo itself.
@@calvinvarga1460 It's not even that technically impressive in the modern day. Not saying Paul isn't technically impressive, everyone in the band is.
It sounds very nice - the choice of sweeping arpeggios is beautiful. But that's about where my interest in the solo ends. It's just a sort-of jazzy clean tone section (the tone of which just sounds godawful to me) followed by, what I think is, generic sweeping. It's well crafted and serves it's purpose, but ultimately doesn't interest me.
My favourite BTBAM solos are that small section in Augment of Rebirth, Yellow Eyes and Blot - *edit* and Life in Velvet. Hell, even Paul's jazzy solos on Coma appeal to more than the Selkies one.
TL;DR It's just a matter of different tastes, really.
“Oh yeah, yeah, love it. Love it.” -Fucking Squiggy
Interviewer does not look happy to be there. Dustie is awesome as always. Thanks for helping me find my friend and the guitar pick in Chicago!
Backwards Marathon made me a BTBAM fan for life
I feel inspired to play every time I see my custom 24
If you change the key of the The Grid riff to fit the guitar riff in The Coma Machine, it works beautifully
Anyone else remember the literal wall of noise that was the Album Alaska? My god.
Still love the title track
Alaska was amazing wtf you smoking
That guitar fucking barks man
The first tune I learned to play well was the intro to Bring It on Home by Led Zeppelin I like Dusties first kill too thats awesome.
yeah yeah
Sweet
Love the first album.
Love seeing this guy play. Such a solid player.
Bro, I remember you playing that Crazy Train riff in Sanjay's gararge
That tone is chewy af
This guy's riffs are so thicc man, I think he wrote the one halfway through Augment of Rebirth when Tommy goes "Please break ouuuuuut"
great sig guitars. love the maple fretboards.
The Grid sounds like “Die To Live” by Steve Vai
Exactly I was trying to figure out who inspired that riff definitely vai lol
Plagiarist?
What a killer PRS
Finally!!!!
How does he remember all this stuff thats what I wish I could do.
When he mentioned Alice In Chains and Jerry Cantrell❤️
damn that tone
That's a really nice PRS
Uh oh
PASGHETTI-O'S
glass casket fucking ruled
Nice
I have to get to the show in May omg I havent seen them in 14 years or so
After a delay of over a year, I finally saw BTBAM again last week! Wow what a show, they get better every time I see them. Best live band of all time.
The boss
I love Nashville
The part he played from The Grid almost gives me a Steve Vai "die to live" vibe.
Lookin good Dustie!
damn it that tone 🔥 🔥
3:55 ten years gone by led zeppelin chorus
The Grid riff is just John Petrucci off 6 degrees of inner turbulence. Not hating. He said it was familiar and thats what pops into my head
Sounds a little like Pearl Jam too with a Satriani feel.
Steve Vai from Alien Love Secrets album
That's literally the first thing that came to mind for me too - Now i'm listening back and trying to find the exact part.
I'm going to have that guitar
Around 1:05 you can hear Mark Tremonti talking about his amp in the boot behind. Dustie also used MT15 for this demo. I guess you just can't get a better sounding practice amp for that money.
fuck yes AIC worship I am also obsessed w. them
Yeah Jerry C is a genius for real
UNDERRATED
Dustie is dope. I was growing up around the same time, but there was too much grunge around and I got sick of it real quick, true metal all the way !
Dustie kinda reminds me of Amos from "The Expanse". Only with less violent sociopathic tendancies. But hey, I don't know what he gets up to in private.
Why the fuck is PRS doesn't produce those guitar?
I really want his satin black CE 24.
Yeah I start to get dulled by the flashy shit too cuz we've heard it so many times.
BT....BAM! right in the kisser.
I remember meeting Dusty after a show and telling him how much I hated the new southern rock/metal trend that was growing in 2011 and he was like “dude I love it” and I have to admit I felt pretty silly
2:57 that one went right over the interviewers head
