How to LIGHT Classic Portraits at HOME with a Cheap Modifier and Affordable Off Camera Flash (OCF)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 лис 2024
- n this video, I challenged myself to use a basic Speedlight and the cheapest light modifier I could find in the studio. I saw that in the form of a styrofoam board which costs less the 5 dollars and is available almost everywhere. I will show you from start to finish all my camera and light settings and explain why it was done in that way. I basically did two layouts with just one Speedlight (OCF) (Flash) and even making it look as if there were two light sources. Hope you enjoy the video, don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, and SHARE!

Hi Jiggie, I found your site a few weeks ago and so pleased as your teaching is so straight forward and you don't hold anything back you share your wealth of experience with us all Thank you. Also I am sure you do not need telling but your wife Coco is Gorgeous, thank you so much for your videos and please keep making them for us in the U.K..

The beauty of your instruction is in its simplicity.
Glad you’re appreciating it :)
I really like the way you teach, to the point, thank you
You’re welcome
Jiggie, thanks sa mentioning the " kelvin " setting dahil malaki naitulong sa akin ito bilang natututo pa lng sa Photography.
Glad to hear that
Thanks for the video. These videos are good at making a novice feel more comfortable with flash photography. By the way, your wife looks great in this style!

I am really enjoying your channel and has given me more confidence whit flash and studio lighting. Also, like that you use not only the expensive gear but equipment that is affordable and dependable. My weak point in portrait photography is how to pose my subject. You have shown me how to do that!
Awesome, thank you!
Jiggie sir i m doing photography from last 19 year. But some of your photography tip give me lots of knowledge thank you so much
Oh you’ve been doing it a lot longer than I have

Thank you so much.! This was very educational for me.
Glad to hear that
Nice idea hard work grt. Result.... 🙏🌹🙏

I am addicted to your channel just saying! Found it about a week ago! Thank you so much for sharing your talent!
You are so welcome! Hope you enjoy the rest of the videos
thank you for this teaching
Thank you for all the awesome videos, you really show how it works behind the scene. Alot of the photography channels are just too stylised and people who really want to learn don't know what really is going on behind the scene. Thank you again!
You’re most welcome. I am glad you are enjoying the videos :)
Very nice. But I was waiting for the black and white version!
Didn’t like it too much, decided to stick with the colored version
Great session, truly so inspiring video. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it
Incredible outcome from the gear used. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
You’re most welcome
Very nice, thanks i do this mostly but bouncing de walls
The final reflections are so good, man!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi Jiggie - this is the content that I'm craving for! For beginners like myself, video that teach lighting concepts without needing to invest in equipment at first helps so much! Very well done! I hope you make more like this in the future!
Glad you liked it
Beautiful. Greetings from India
Thank you! Cheers!
Always great seeing you shoot Coco!!!🤗
Can’t wait for you to do her makeup virtually!
Awesome video, goes to show you don't need a crazy set up to light up a nice shot.
🙏
Very creative. Very informative and also very inspiring for new learners. I so much look forward to ur tutorials as one can readily see that u teach without hiding any knowledge. Interesting how u are coming up with new posts in the lockdown. We are also free to watch and learn. Much gratitude🙏
Glad you’re enjoying the videos, well as the title suggests, doing all these videos now at home :)
Gonna try replicate. Thank you so much for the tutorials.
Please do :)
these are amazing ... gonna definitely look into this !!!!!
🙏
This is teaching me so much! Thank you!
Fantastic video showing it’s not necessarily the gear you use but how you use it. I’d love to see how you edited these shots as the final images look beautiful.
That’s basically how it looked straight from cam then sharpened for web :)
Superb. Many thanks for this video. Looking forward for more such one light/simple setup shoots and trial and error demo. 😊
You’re most welcome :)
this is quality content! Bingeing your videos now
Great to hear that! :)
Its good to see that you chose the trial and error process 👍 Unique idea for backlight as well as bouncing back will give the soft light. Cheers
Everyone goes through trial and error, they just don’t show it :)
@@JiggieAlejandrino that's the beauty of your videos 😇👍
Thank you so much Jiggie for sharing as usual. This tutorial was especially interesting as I see you've used the Li 60 Phottix flash and Odin Lite.I have bought the Li60 package with the Odin Lite to integrate with my Indra and you're the first person I've seen using it.
Oh great! It’s a good combo, you just loose TTL and HSS capabilities on the Indra if you use the Odin Lite :)
@@JiggieAlejandrino Thanks for your reply. I already have the Odin II , I haven't received the Li60 set yet,but looking at its integration into the Phottix system, I think I'll be happy. Thanks again.
these are amazing. thank you for this video
You’re most welcome
I am so demanding I am feeling about myself now. but can you please make a video on zoom setting that how it effects on photos and what zoom setting should be in portraits, full shots and group photos .as I worked on 24 most of the time.
In my place, a styrofoam of that size is overpriced at $4 😆 it barely cost a dollar at all. And I can find most of them unused at trash bins. Anyway the tutorial is amazing and I love your work. You earned a sub from me 😊
A wanted to make the title a dollar modifier but wasn’t sure how much it actually cost! LOL
Great, Thank you so much, greetings from Switzerland
You’re welcome! :)
I really, REALLY enjoyed this video .. and LEARNED a TON ..
I have the EOS R .. I think it has the same 'simulation' that I would probably have to remember to turn off .. as you mentioned when setting the camera initially
Thanks!
Yeah or else you won’t see what you are photographing :)
Beautiful!
Thanks :)
Great, thanks.
🙏
Awesome 😀👏👏👏
Thanks
tamaru updi gyu chhe bhai..!!!
Informative as always.👍 Thanks for sharing. Btw, Coco should start charging you for her talent fee!!😁😜😋🤪
Hahahahah! Don’t give her ideas :p
What about the stands used for the styrofoam & collapsible background, any link?
Great
🙏
Nice work💼
Thanks
It's very nice..
Can u plz try to explain the zoom feature of flash ?
Lower number wider the throw of light, higher number more focused
Hi kuya, does on cam flash really improve general photography? Im just an amature photographer, kids indoor outdoor, birthdays and some portraits.
Will you please explain the zoom function?
Uhhhmmm you can zoom your flash meaning focus or wide
@@JiggieAlejandrino Thanks... I'm new to flash.
Your a Legend...
🙏
Would you consider using a “affordable” camera such as Sony a6400 paired with an affordable lens , lighting source , and any other materials that you can find to be affordable?
Huh?
@@JiggieAlejandrino what I meant was to make a video on flash photography portraits , but having a cheap camera and cheap lens
One more question: when you adjusted the zoom length to reduce the light spill, is the flash spreading out at a smaller length vs being more focused at a longer length?
More focused stronger power
Hi Thérèse!, Why you didn't ser the flash to TTL? (Or it was just for the purpose of the video?)
You have more control and consistency with manual
What is the situation at your Country with the current global crisis? Hope you and your wife are safe. The f4 gives a swallow depth of fields in the end result which is nice!
Still under quarantine, movement is limited that’s why most of the videos I am bringing out were shot at home
Is godox v1 a good flash to start?
Ok Lang,
Nice
Thanks
Hi sir remember me I m your fb post viewer I have questions if I have godox x1 trigger N mount and also I have godox v1 flash C mount can I use this off camera
Unfortunately I am not familiar with Godox products :)
@@JiggieAlejandrino OK what about other brand can we use like that
@Harshit
If your camera is a Nikon you can use the trigger in the camera and use the Flash as an off camera. But if your camera is Canon, you cannot use the trigger but you can use the camera at the top of the camera.
Let's try cheaper. A t5i, 50mm 1.8 and a piece of cardboard with foil glued to it at golden hour
Thank you very much for this tutorial sir jiggie. :) #smug ph member #RX1RM2
You’re most welcome! Hope you enjoyed
that light is 179 us that makes it about 200 cnd
Really it's messaging tutorial
Huh?
@@JiggieAlejandrino sorry sir it's typing mistake. It should be mesmerising instead of messaging.
Oh! Lol! Thank you then :) glad you enjoyed it :)
Cheap flash and modifier but more that US$ 3,000.00 between the camera and lens though......!
and does that diminish the value of the lighting tutorial?
@@JiggieAlejandrino yes indeed it defeats the whole purpose of a tutorial with just budget items including camera and lens which is the case of most people, for example if you would it made it with a 300 dollar camera that comes with a kit lens I'll buy the idea...!
It’s the concept of lighting and how it was used that you should be focusing on. You can use a more expensive flash or a cheaper camera, but the concepts and principles will remain the same which is the very essence of the tutorial.
Rob, I tried to recreate some of Jiggie's portrait looks and had a good time learning new stuff. My equipment is nikon d3400 with an 18-55 kit lens that comes with the camera. For flash I use a Simpex 621 (less than 50 dollars) and a white shoot through umbrella and that cheap 5 in 1 reflector. All in all, the basic motive is not to teach you how to work with expensive equipment, it's about learning how light works and using makeshift stuff to get good results
Nice lecture but I don't like your camera brand, I prefer pentax for portrait
to each his own
@@JiggieAlejandrino i sold my sony cameras because the company philosophy is about profiting from consumers like us, they do not care about what the photographer needs compared to pentax.
Second lol
Hahaha surprise upload ba!
@@JiggieAlejandrino a bit. hahahahahaha
