Do you know how ballsy it is to show EVERY shot AS they're being taken on screen? That's when you KNOW your stuff man... there's SO many photos that go to the scrap pile almost as soon as you shoot them, but this man's cranking out banger after banger and they look AWESOME. Outstanding work folks, thanks for the wisdom!
Grateful for 2 things: 1) more subdued background music makes it easier to pay attention to what you have to say, and 2) how you model to us how to be a solo shooter setting up gear w/o an assistant. Would welcome more content helping us solo photogs along those lines.
I always love Pye and his tutorials. But honestly, the Interwebs amazes me. Why would fifteen people take the time to come to this wonderfully helpful video and give it a thumbs down? What kind of sadness must they have in their lives?
Your video s are such a joy to watch! Also you are straight to the point without that hipster talk of so many channels. Background music and your voice is calming too. I'm gonna binge watch all your videos now!
I love this video, even as an amateur learning portrait photography it makes it easy to see where I could apply this with basic gear. Even if you don't have a nicer flash, you can make this work with a single speedlight and a reflector.
Thanks a lot for this amazing video. I'm learning a lot! Just wonder if you have more videos showing how use zenithal lighting and how can it be tilted. I'd like to learn more about lighting techniques techniques. Regards dear teacher❤
Umbrellas are great light modifiers and should never be underestimated .cheap easy to transport and are great to use for large groups to, only drawback is sometimes is that the light goes everywhere, but they can give such soft and appealing light for portraits. Thank you Pye. don't often see videos on the use of these mods any more.
Very imformative. Never seen an umbrella inverted like that. Different, some say umbrella some say light box. It gets confusing. What do you think of these tiny battery lights 2inces square as fill light used on videos. Only about 5 watts. Would they work when out and about or is that a gimick.
Appreciate the info! Question I’m doing holiday photos with a 8x12 background drop (Christmas theme) is there any other info i need to make sure my background is properly exposed as well as my subject?
Wonderful tutorial. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with such clarity and warmth. Excellent video coverage of the process. And yes, I also love the quieter music! Bravo.
Thanks for the helpful video. I have a big white umbrella which is used for sheltering from the rain. Is it possible to use something like that for a photoshoot since it would mean I wouldn't have to go and specifically purchase a white photographer's umbrella? But how would I attach that to a flash light stand or near one since it has a handle on the end and would never fit through a light stand hole? Is there anything different about a photographer's umbrella compared to a rain umbrella other than not having a handle?
Yeah, as long as it's white and semi-transparent it would work. Might not be ideal. You'll have to figure out how to get it threaded through the flash bracket tho.
if I have to do a blind guest without knowing the set is, I'll definitely say the light is coming from 1 o'clock, but this is new to me to have light from above + bottom right
An excellent video with super clear explanations. I can’t find the link to follow Chelsea? Thank you for the video and the work you both did producing this video.😀📸
Pye had the power on his lights turned so far down, you would easily be able to match that with your speedlights. And after all, you could answer your own question by trying....just experiment with different settings, positions of lights etc.
The link in the description is for a Glow 40 inch white umbrella. Is there a difference between this and the Glow Translucent umbrella, if so, what is the difference? In the video you are using a Profoto umbrella.

I love that to anyone paying attention there was a bonus lesson on posing your subject. This is why Pye is so awesome.

PS recently saw a tip that a white shoot-through umbrella can be used in a partly-open position to reduce the spread of light. Any thoughts?
Yes that music is very suitable to pay attention
Hence, I've been following him from the beginning of times.

Pye is the man! Such a great teacher!

Another simple but very effective tutorial. Great job!
Very nice, simple, and efficient tuto
Wooooooowwwwwww. I always wondered why photographers had flash when they are indoor with 5 lights already on the subject... Wow
Just got some lighting recently - thanks for the great video!
Great video. I've been using softboxes recently. I bought 2 umbrellas but haven't used them yet. That's going to change. Thanks.
Man this looks like magic! Wow
Love how you explain and teach thanks.
Great video Pye! I can totally do that with my two small, cheap speedlights and umbrellas.
Good job as always Pye. Love your work!
Very helpful step by step introduction of the lights.
Great video. I'm digging that subtle piano music in the background, Pye. Nice touch!
Yes
very good Video to follow, not a lot of crazy music in the back ground and just simply lighting to get a great professional shot!
Excellent presentation
Thanks for the very Nice video ! I will try something similar with my Godox Speedlights & the two umbrellas I have.
Umbrellas are so quick, light and easy to use, great tutorial...
Learnt a lot from your video. Thanks let's do some more.
there is a "strange sound" at 1:51... :D
Lol 😂 fart
That was loud and no one laughed? 🤔
hahaha I had to listen to it again, I thought it was my dog! 🤣
I think the sound was added in.
@@RexMontis71 -because these overheadlights stinks .... (added fart sound for pun)
Appreciate the info! Question I’m doing holiday photos with a 8x12 background drop (Christmas theme) is there any other info i need to make sure my background is properly exposed as well as my subject?
You'll need to light the background as well. For halo one light will do. But for evenly lit background better to go for 2 lights. 😊
Helped me so much!!
Nice SFX at 01:51 :-)
agree with taht :)))
Fabulous!
Thank you!
Wonderful tutorial. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with such clarity and warmth. Excellent video coverage of the process. And yes, I also love the quieter music! Bravo.
Thank You Sir... Love from Puri, Odisha,INDIA ❤

Amazing vid! Appreciate this.
Great video, thank you! Excellent images and creative lighting setup!
Amazing video, thank you!

How did you get ISO 50 on Canon r6? I have this camera and I can only go down as much as 100...
Thank you, my friend, I am learned a lot of things from your lesson.
I have cheapy shoot thru umbrellas and love them.
Excellent! Thanks
I lol'ed at 1:51

Thanks for sharing Pye, I appreciate your teaching style!

@@BornUncreative Gaff tape!! LOL
Enjoyed this video as many of your videos are so helpful... Just curious on the overhead umbrella why shoot through it as apposed into it? Thanks!
this guy is the best
Just Grand as usual.
Love the work as usual 👌🏾😊...that music is suspect though. Sending good vibes Pye ✌🏾
lol, noted. I'll let Mike/Anthony know ;)
Personally I dig their selection of smooth jazz, haha.
@@BornUncreative it’s tolerable 😊. Keep up the good work man. Love your content.
Lol I thought it matched perfectly
Thank you very much....
This is really helpful
Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Hey Pye. I’d love to learn colour gel for stylistic but using standard light to feather the colour away from the focus point
Wow excellent work! Side question - does it look like Pye's been working out a lot more? His arms look solid.
I was thinking the same thing
Yes he is lifting since many years
Well those new RF lenses are very heavy! 😂
Hi Pye. This is a great video. One quick question, what do you mean by the term ‘flip-flop’ your B10? Regards Paul. UK
Good Job Dude!!!!I like that Video!!Wohooooooooo
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing!!

Hi, Please what the name of the silver tripod used for light support ? I tapped "benro S8 tripod" but it seems it is not that model

Very useful This video sir, , big thank you sir R.MANOHAR ,Chennai.India
Beautiful model!
Helpful as always!
This was tremendously helpful! Subscribing.
I have a 150mm Marco lens. I can’t seem to get the full frame on my subject. How far do I have to stand away from the subject?
That was a nice one , Thanks
I love this tutorial, because he seems give the really image not edited, and this will be more helpful to the learner, great tutorial, thank you
This is awesome man, thank you very much, you're the best🙌🏾😊
Pretty interesting, love the video
Wow. Thanks Pye.
How does the Rokinon compare to the Canon/Sigma/Tamron equivalents?
An excellent video with super clear explanations. I can’t find the link to follow Chelsea? Thank you for the video and the work you both did producing this video.😀📸
Excellent
How could not even crack a smile at 1:51? 😂
Who cut the cheese?
Amazing!) Very light setup except c stand. Is it posibble to do something with 2 speedlights and umbrellas? for full body shots indoor location?
I don't see why not, i wouldn't be concerned about the power output
Yes, you can do the same thing with speedlights.
Pye had the power on his lights turned so far down, you would easily be able to match that with your speedlights. And after all, you could answer your own question by trying....just experiment with different settings, positions of lights etc.
Thanks
Amazing
Could you use the umbrella laying on the floor as a reflector?
Muchas gracias.
So good
Wich is the model of the light tripod? Thanks
so good 👏
De dónde es el pie que utilizas para poner el flash?
Awesome
Very nice indeed! Thank you for your tutorial Pye. (Please forgive me if I misspelled your name).
Nice 👍🌷👍 why second light. ? Why not reflector from shoulder hight 👍
That's totally doable too! A second light is nice for when you want exact control over power (compared to a reflector). But, both totally work!
He actually mentions that at 9:15 as another option
Do you use High speed sync or just M mode?
Thank you sir.... 🌈❤️
Nice!
What's your white balance what is image?
Can we get a godox ad400 studio set up test
Very well execution👏, q: On a lighter background I always end up with the person’s shadow. How to avoid that ?
Move the subject further away from the background or use a background light.
Position of the light, distance from subject to background.
Such a simple way of explaining! Well done!
I see your over the haircut you got earlier in the year no hat lol. Great video thanks
