Hey Dane, you need to put the plastigauge the other direction across the journal. If you put it across the journal it will tell you more for example journal taper. Keep up the good work!
I realized that after I did it. But I also figure smooshed is smooshed right 😆 Thats what happens when you don't know what your doing really. Im good with it tho. I said nice things to it so it should be fine.
I do have to say when you make a good pass after all the work and the car rips its the best feeling ever. Makes all the crap worth it and its a huge sense of pried and accomplishment. Then it brakes and you go back on jack stands and do it over again 😆
@@Burndown yup absolutely, on my second ford setup if I break the pistons in this one I'm goin LS, I saved long enough for a holley hp that way it'll make the LS swap easier
No you can’t just swap caps. It was re stamped because it was machined to fit properly. I wanted to show that it is in fact a junk core motor I put together.
@@Burndown I meant just the bearing halves. Since the cap take most of the abuse my thought was put the better half in the cap. Not move the caps. Just a thought. I’m pulling for you.
Probably been answered before, but my dad saw your videos and he’s wanting to copy your motor mounts the poly bushing and all. Do you by chance have a part number or where you go them from? Thanks!
I actually bought the kit form Headman Headers because I had a friend that worked their and they are kinda local to me. I needed them ASAP for the swap so that's why I have these in the car. The kit was kinda spendy for what it is but it was a bolt in deal so no guess work for a new LS guy like me when I first did this car. ITC Billet makes good stuff so check them out and then just get some poly mounts for a SBC separately and it would probably be cheaper. See if WARR has something.
At this point I only have enough time to put it back in the car once. I have a ton of other stuff to get done and I’m out of time. I figured cheap insurance.
It was random and I want to update my intro so its to the point and quick. I haven't had any time so as far as I got was to re use my race week into and throw my buddies logo over the RMRW logo 🤣 Ill get a new one done when life calms down. Maybe after Vegas.
I have built HUNDREDS of LS motors and never plastigauged a single crankshaft and have never had even one problem. We have cranks turned that need it and just clean the ones that come out of motors that the bearings were in perfect condition. I am about building motors. Some people are about making videos.
At this point I figured why not do it to double check. If anything at least I’ll know the clearance or have an idea. I’m not an engine builder by any stretch but it’s fun to learn something new.
@@Burndown I'm not saying you can't do it but I dont. If I made videos for every motor I have built I would have thousands of UA-cam videos. I can assemble a motor from bare block to completely assembled in about 3.5 hours. No time to be the video king.
if we need different bearings for the mains we obviously use the right ones. Same with rods if they are resized but we avoid that. We usually have plenty of gen 4 rods that just need a cleaning and then put in another motor.
Sweet deal. Glad you are able to start putting her back together again.
Thanks Matthew. Im hopeful we got it right this time!
Great clip once again brotha! I've learned so much just from your channel, keep it up!
Well don't take all of it at 100. When I screw up don't do that 😆 Do whatever I do to make it work properly when I get that far!
@@Burndown 😂 I take all responsibility for anything I do, even if you did it first. I hold my self accountable for all of my actions lol.
Great vid ! I was wondering can you reuse rod bolts ?
You can if you want. Depends on what your doing but the Sloppy community does it all the time

Looks good man, off to a solid start
Solid Re Start but yes I feel good about this go round. As long as we have some PSI the boom will be ready to roll! We will know soon!
How did you clean the block, looks fresh! You have alot of info I'm trying to learn with my build, keep em coming!
It was fresh before the low oil pressure deal. I don't have a hot tank. Simple green and scrub!
Such a good feeling that just can't be explained lol, sweet

Nice work! 💪🏼
Thanks you!
Thanks for the video
You bet
Can cap and block bearings be swapped?
No.caps cannot be swapped for sure. You could swap 1,2,4 and 5 bearings but you wouldn't want to.

U already had it running and found the problem I wouldn't of even wasted time plasti-gauging it but I guess it can't hurt to check it

Just like the cardboard trick with paint. ;)
Probably like 3000 grit, or so.
I don’t know the cardboard paint trick but I bet it’s similar. Paint cost way more than an engine bearing these days so I rub sandpaper on that 🤣

@@davidsharp922 how often do you need different bearings after a basic align hone with a new crank?
I’m disappointed. After hearing the wipe down process I thought you were going to pour some wine and light some candles.😂
