As a 52 year old lady I would like to learn about motors and how they are in so I really appreciate your videos. Please keep it up. Maybe I can learn how to do my own repairs. lol. Why not?
Yeahhh you’ll do it with that mentality. Since 2021 I’ve learned ALOT. Still have yet to crack into my first engine but this is probably the 500th video I’ve watched of several different engines. Gettin pretty confident
Nice job I have rebuilt around 10 LS motors and you did this one perfect you are correct in everything you did
@@marshallwilliams7468 What do you want to do with this vehicle?
@@WhiskeyRiverRifleman I'm curious what the differences are, would you mind telling me? Thank you so much for your time!
If u just want a decent stock engine you can just swap it but if you want it race ready or at all built for performance rebuild would be ideal
I’m mechanically inclined but have never built an engine or swapped one. Thank you for the quality videos man. I hope to start a build this year. Wish me luck 🤘🏻
Bro this is one of the best LS rebuild videos I’ve seen never knew you could line up the oil pump haha dope man dope!
have done 100 ls engines new and old and never have done that with. no issues
I went to college for automotive restoration and I spent a lot of time rebuilding engines and I’ve done over 10 cam and lifter jobs accompanied by oil pumps on LS engines and I’ve never heard of anyone aligning the oil pump until today. That is such an amazing idea. Thank you so much for this information
While it probably won't matter with your engine, something to pay attention to is the piston pin circlip position. You normally want the opening to be at a 12 or 6 o'clock position. This stops the circlip from compressing at higher rpm when the piston changes direction faster which, if the opening is in the 3 or 6 o'clock position, allows the circlip to compress and potentially unseat itself.
Hey Austin, you could make your own line of tapered piston ring compressors if you had a 3D printer and sell them online. I love watching you work, you’re always so careful and precise.
That’s a good idea!
I was cringing a little when you slid the con-rods down the bore. It's real easy to nick something on the way down, especially if you're a little shakey, like me. That's why I always put a little bit of neoprene tubing on the studs.
Austin is my fav pro builder , lets go AVR
This is gonna be an awesome FJ Austin! I can't wait to see what you do to it next! Don't forget to get a Helix throttle body spacer for it as well!
Pure genius..... quality videos.... professional editing.....M.I.T level engineering 👌👌👌
Im on my 1st LS run thru, thanks for the inspiration vid!
Nice job! Can't wait to hear that new engine purr!👌👌
great video. always happy when I see a new upload by Austin. Keep up the great work.
Just did the oil pan and main seal on mine. Fun seeing all the stuff I was just tearing into a few weeks ago
Looks nIce FYI per GM bulletin, those O2 rubber plugs where they meet the lifter valley cover. Pull them up add a bead of silicon around the meeting surface and push them back on. Helps prevent water intrusion in case of washing engine down the road or water splashing in from who knows what. Water running in from the back cowl and down on the intake manifold and finding its way down to the valley cover. Also if you are using a car water pump with truck accessories then just use ICT billet water pump spacer and it will all work.
Great job guy. Two thumbs up. Thanks for making the video.
Great job mate, keep up the good work
Nice job. This is going to be a great little engine. Looking forward to seeing what's next. 😎 👍
I love how americans call a V8 engine 'small' ..... your imagination however small is on steroids..... for us Africans, any 4 cylinder above 2.0 cubic litres Is quite big and thirsty......once its turbocharged we go nuts about it. Blame it on our English colonizers 🤣🤣🤣
Nice work on that motor. That's the perfect motor for that Toyota.
First time rebuilding a 5.3 and Omg I’ve been stressing out with my pushrod length, I’ve watched many videos on it but you made it so much simpler! Thank you
Sweet!! Glad I can help!
Awesome work
Your audio from the mic while you talk is really good 👍
Just bought a $50 ls hoping to rebuild it and put it in my 01 durango thank you dor this video
You said you’ll keep it simple 😂 looks like it gonna be another crazy epic built again?
Right😭😭
Just like his brother 😂
The LS in the FJ40 will be sweet !
All that power for that small body should make it haul ass.
Nice air pump Man!
Nicely Done! Thank you. Adjustable piston compressors...Oh you got that right. I used one when I rebuilt my sons Mazda engine. They don't clamp circular and exactly as you said, flimsy sides, either the piston or the rings jamming on the deck. It was just 4 cyc's so I stuck with it, but never again. Rebuilding my Chevy 3800 engine and getting one from Summit. Buying a 2006 Silverado with a L33 I'll rebuild and will get one from Summit for that. Nicely Done, Very Nicely Done!
Yes buy the good ring compressors!! Thank you!
I don't know what happened, but I turned my head for a second and then when I turned back Austin's building a LS engine, pretty cool
Encanta la mecánica, me gustaría aprender ese oficio con cada uno de tus proyectos.... 👍
good stuff! 🖐
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽that’s how u do things do it right or don’t do it at all keep grinding man💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
This was so cool 😎
That instrumental around 18:33 was hard😂😂 I just made a whole rap song about Chevys and speed that quick
You blew it man
I see the notches on the lifter tray are facing up does it make a difference if they face up or down ?
Really nice build but the knock sensor harness runs through the driver side runners under the intake and the coolant temp sensor goes on front driver side head
I got the same bolts for the heads can i know what longer bolts you got
What brand u get the rear cover and front cover gaskets ?
Austin have you thought about doing a first gen 4Runner? I am the original owner of an 86. It’s time for a new power plant and would love to do a V8 swap in it.
What kind of injectors u used and did the o ring came with it
What did you torque the heads to?
That ring compressor # is it for stock piston and ring size ? I would love to order one im redoing the stock rings on my 5.3 soon
hi austin if u clock ur time from 3:35 to 3:45 and you will see white paper with instruction.. how u get that? where to look for? thanks.
Is there a torque spec for the side main cap bolts?
What part number are the head bolts you got?
What rebuild book would you recommend to complete a job like this?
Whats the tool you’re using at 3:47 and what are doing with it?
Is it running and how did the motor turn out?
Great video Austin. Wanted to know what color did u paint your front cover ?
I have the same question. Outstanding video, professional and accurate. However, I would like to know paint and color you used for pan, timing cover and valve covers.
@Austin Niemela los diferenciales de la yukon serían Perfecto para el fj💪🏼💪🏼👌🏽💯
We’re did you get the rebuild kit?
What pistons u went with
how to till engine size also how tell is LS1 or 3
Where did you find the torque specs?
What timing chain u used
When getting an ls from a salvage yard would 100,000 mile engine be worth buying? My first build for a 55 Chevy swap. What do I look for? Thanks
Can u share the all data info for that specific engine please
how EASY is it to fit TURBO UNDER A GBODY HOOD?
i just swapped in a 5.3 LS to my 85 cutlass a few yrs ago.
its mostly running 100% except a p0154 code for 02 sensor and still gets 19 mpg city despite running open loop because of this, probly cuz i dont abuse it or get obnoxious on the gas cuz i have a very loud rumbling exhaust and ESPECIALLY 2.23 rear gears.
BUT it barely lay a patch off the line cuz of those gears :-(
in other words it needs either more power or 3.53 rearend which will also require a OD tranny too
Anew rearend setup and tranny will likely cost me from 1500-3000 bucks canadain.
can i turbo this for cheaper and fit under stock hood?
Nice 👍🤘🏆🏆🏆
9:57 thats small block timing. both dots should be at 12 oclock on each sprocket. you are at tdc #6
lifter trays are backwards, good build.
You reused the cap and rod bolts?
What’s the average price on rebuilding your motor like this?
Were the heads put on backwards on purpose? Coolant temp sensor typically goes on drivers side 21:40
They’re interchangeable on direction
Doesnt .07=7/100ths of an inch not 7/1000ths?
7/ 100ths is 70/1000ths. The measurement he was adding was 70/1000ths.
@@stevendouglas6593 gotcha, I must have misheard what he said
I'm learning. What was the gauge that was put on the crank?
Mag base dial indicator! Measuring the crack movement front to back!
@@austinniemelathat’s the only part I was completely I felt in the dark in watching this video. Could you explain more ? What does it do and what is it for
What year motor is it
Should it not have been minus 70 on the pushrod length?
Narrowed tons and coilovers?? Can't wait to see what's next.
@19:30 what part is it that he replaced before putting on the timing cover? Thank you in advance to anyone who helps
That’s a billet oil diverter barbell
What’s was that he switched at the 19:30 mark
How much to do this
What brand gaskets did you use
Mostly OEM gaskets!!
How much did this entire build cost
How much do you charge to rebuild?
How much did you spend on this engine rebuild ?
move those stupid knock sensor to an alter location with re-location kit so you won't have to ever remove intake to get at them because water got in and rusted them.
Let's go🔥😎
Great EP 🤙🏼
I’m guessing this is a gen 3 ?
I get told all the time. LM7 is not an LS engine. I try to ask why they say that but never get an answer.
😮
Funny this guy looks like the UA-camr Devin Niemela.
That’s my brother 🤘
@@austinniemela well aren’t I late to the party. Content is so familiar too. Clean and organized for sure. I can see it now for sure!! New sub here.
@@MrJay-kb8xj awesome thanks man!!
You could bring me a 5.3 block and all the parts and bolts in a 5 gallon bucket and I could put it together blind drunk I hope you can put it back together its easier to me than a small block Chevy
Hi bro
Kirk cousins look alike
Explain more....
what happened to your brothers vids?
Your lifter trays are in upside down go back to the video time stamp 10:17
Except it’s not an LS motor. alas based but the 5.3 vortec is not LS.
“Aligning” this oil pump is unnecessary. The tolerance between the outer gear and the inner gear is less than that between the outer gear and the housing. It’s floating so it’s designed to only ride on the inner gear. You only run into an issue here when there is an absence of oil in the pump and tolerance between the gears is changed. It doesn’t hurt I suppose, just unnecessary
Wait. I thought this engine was a 4.8?
Totally late haha but yes I’m sure it is cause the 5.3 had dished piston and the 4.8 had flat top pistons!
@@Nate_dawggx325 Ahh. Well, I ask because I have the 4.8, and I hate it. The 5.3 has ALOT more torque and acceleration. The 4.8 gets a load moving when it's good and ready.
5.3l with 4.8 flat tops . It’s a nice bump in compression
7 minutes in flat tops?
Yes gen 4 flat top!
He torked the pump wrong
You spelt torqued wrong 😑
🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦
Do you have a brother?
Didn't show alot
why are you building a 4.8 ??
that's not a 5.3 piston design no dip means 4.8 right???
so your building a stock engine and your messing with push rod length? Why? Wow you must know more than GM engineers.. you do realize that when this engine is built in Tonawanda they dont shove feeler gauges in the oil pump..
LOL I changed lifters and they require a different pushrod length. No GM may not use feeler gauges, but they sure as hell align the pump somehow! Feeler gauges work amazing for this!
