  • Got the crank in the block today. The cheap $14.99 angle gauge is awful and not precise, but it can be made to work good enough. This is my first LS build/rebuild, just trying to document it and use knowledge I have from previous builds. I made a few mistakes but tried to acknowledge and correct them.

Hopefully you checked your end float after that video and certainly wouldn't suggest checking the bearing clearances with assembly lube applied before checking them as this adds to the clearance

Good advice certainly. Engine is long gone sadly, never got to run it. Sold to a friend in SC.

    hi leo's
is probably to late but you not suppose to use engine assembly lube when checking clearance with plastic gauge.

Just to be sure which way are the tangs on the lower caps oriented. Are the upper and lower tangs on the same side

Are they supposed to be on the same side or not ??? Dumb question but very important for beginners 😎👍👍

What type of rod bearings did you use on this block?

Leo's Garage! Thanks, I’m going to start building my first LS lol!! I’ve built some Small block Chevys, and some Big block Chevy engines, but not an LS yet. I’ve stumbled over a LS6 that I plan on swapping in my Camaro in the near future.

Ricky Jaimes nice! This was my first LS too. After doing Sbc/BBC. I’ll try to find the part number for the rod bearings I used. They weren’t anything fancy though

Hi Leo you do know the clearance for a street engine should be 001" Max. The 002" clearance that you got is for a race Nascar motor running over 6500RPM.
