The 5 Most Influential Chronograph Watches
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- The chronograph is, with the exception of the date, the world's most popular complication and one which we have all come across at some point. Similarly, the chronograph is probably also the most widely interpreted function with every type of watch from the most formal to the most rugged offering this option to a customer.
But, if you look back through history, it is actually remarkably easy to see just a handful of watches which have changed and reinterpreted the chronograph. In today's video, join me on a journey back through five of the most influential chronographs from the likes of Omega and Audemars Piguet.

Hey , any more videos coming? Your channel is amazing
Does anyone know whats happened to the Armand the Watch Guy?
7 months without a video, I hope you are well.
I miss you Armand. I Hope all's well and you're thriving.
Where are you?? Come back!!
Just to say I miss your channel and hope that one day your able to make a return. What ever the reason may be, I hope you're well
From what I can put together, he’s been pursuing a law degree, and that’s taken all of his time so YT is done at least for now. Same with his podcast etc. it’s too bad he didn’t let us know, but that’s what I’ve put together.
Hey Armand. Where did you go?
Armand - long time no see! Hope that you are well. Drop us a note here on UA-cam and let your audience know that you're OK.
He's a very clever young man. Maybe he's at university studying to be a barrister or something. But, i agree. Hope to see him back.
+Stephen John Baldwin: A perfect guess, good sir.
@@ArmandTheWatchGuy Good luck. My Son Matthew was called to the bar at Grey's inn last year and became a barrister at the age of 23. We are all so proud of him.
@@saymyname218 Very impressive! I wish him all the very best! I'll be a few years behind that, but one gets there eventually.
@@ArmandTheWatchGuy I wish you all the very best too Armand. "I'm sure you'll get there!" I just hope that in the future you'll be able find the time to make a watch video every now and then because your knowledge on watches is so interesting.
Just found the channel and sad to see no newer videos! Hope all is well and you can get back to posting
Just discovered this channel and podcast. Excellent discussions!
Fascinating episode, thank you Armand 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video as always and one of your best
Where have you gone ?
Hmmm, not sure I agree with your Zenith assessment. Historically foundational as one of the first in the automatic chronograph race and also iconic watch. Still running strong today given the latest relaunches. You underestimated it.
@Anthony Hill yes Anthony, I was referring precisely to those years when zenith contributed to horological history along with other major brands, as you mentioned. That El Primero is one of the most important watches ever made, so the way it was presented is not accurate. I liked the video however, except that bit of course ☺️
But you have to accept that there was a lot of politics behind it. At the time multiple companies were working on automatic chronographs and Zenith wasn’t even supposed to be first. In a sense, I get what your saying, but given the moves to exclude the speedy and deep star, I get why the zenith was left out
@@rafayz9033 yeah, i also get your reasoning. However, I’m not sure the point is really who came in first. Who cares in the end, it’s a matter of months. The point is the contribution to horological history. And Zenith must be in the picture in this case
Wait..... I thought i was missing someone from my YT watch feed..... Where is Armand 🥲
Does anybody know what has happened, seems to have stopped posting content 3 months ago.
+ Pierre Martin: Thank you very much for the comment. I've taken a sort of sabbatical whilst pursuing further studies and considering just how I want to address watches in future. Rest assured, I'll be back soon enough.
What happened to this distinguished hunk?
Missing your content sir. Hope all is well with you.
What happened to Armand? No more videos?

What happened to this channel ?
Great video, I love the 6139 though
I would love to see a review of the Grand Seiko SBGE285.
Great overview.
That was very interesting. Thank you!
I'd love more content from your excellent channel - once a month maybe?
Well done 👍
Hope the worst has not happened. Anyone have any news on Armand?
Where has The Watch Chronicler gone, nothing in the last 3 months!
Great list, I didn’t know much about these other than the names. I would have added a bonus selection - the Seiko 7A28-powered models. The first quartz analog chronograph movement is, at least to me, kind of a big deal. But I guess this list isn’t so much about the movements as it is about the overall design. Viewed in that light, those Seikos didn’t break any new ground.
I leaned a ton here....thanks so much!
I noticed that the last video posted online was three years ago ! How come you're not contributing any content lately ? The quality of your video are very high . I hope you're in good health
This video is ~5 months old and is the most recent addition to the Watch Chronicler UA-cam channel... 😬😬😬
always fab, not sure i would have chosen the AP over the Zenith
Yes I'd include the Zenith El Primero - arguably the first automatic chronograph and the movement for the Rolex Daytona, and many other watches.
Where’s he gone?
Dead probably
Hi. $1,200 is the most I could ever afford to spend on a watch. Is the MM200 the best AUTO dive watch for the that price?
Hope to see you return soon
Would love to hear your Only Watch 2021 thoughts :)
I agree with Genta....and you should have mentioned the Seiko Pogue?
I missed breitling at the start as a two pusher
Not sure about the early speedmaster honestly - it was a Rodania Geometer homage which predates it by 2 years.
No JLC?
I would have to agree with you on your choices. I love Omega and have always had a soft spot for them.
so where is ollech and wajs?
I just realized you disappeared. Sad.
What happen to this channel?
Where are you Armand? My GF was just asking about you? She likes your videos.
Vos francais est impeccable Armand
Your are mixing "1st one" and icons Who have influence watch design.
Therefore in the list I Will refer to breguet type 20, navitimer, and portuguese for its pure symétry.
Come back to UA-cam Armand!
my 5 most influential watches are... Omega, Rolex, O&W (Ollech & Wajs), Hamilton and Seiko
Tudor panda is the best 👌
Interesting content. Keep up the good work on your channel. Regards, #WR4K
Vuelve 🙏
Wooo!
*No Seiko?*
Tell me. The. Best with running seconds
Skipping out on Zenith is pure bullshit, as is the Monaco.
I like your reviews but I feel sad to see that you work mainly for the 5 major brands that control the world watch industry 😞
watch snobism at it's best 🤣
