LMFAO!!!! Dude we sneak him in a lot of videos and very few people catch it or say anything. It's always way out of context but we laugh our asses off every times.
Great video as always guys! One addition for viewers (and you guys especially) is the Super Mario 3 for GBA (Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3.) This game is really interesting for collectors as it has the extra e-card levels built by the original game designers. Originally you had to purchase a e-card reader adapter for your GBA and these special cards that would let you load the levels. Not all the levels came out in the US, and the cart wasn't big enough to hold all the levels at once either. It was a pretty bad situation for completionists until this release which is the only official way to play these extra levels.
Absolutely! I saw you guys mentioned you aren't really into the handheld games so wanted to make sure you knew about it. It's a really nice release and something I had been hoping for for years. Between that and Earthbound Beginnings there are some real gems released for WiiU. Another exclusive you might want to check out is Ufouria. It's a sunsoft NES platformer that wasn't released in the US, but it's a really fun game.
I'm behind. I just heard today that it's all going away by Jan '22. I know which games I want but I need to know how to store them. It can't be only the system itself. You guys mention an external HD. I've heard sd cards and flash drives work.
As far as I know is that you can't buy at the Wiiu and 3ds Eshop with Debit or credit cards. Only Ninitendo cards will work starting Jan 2022. But yeah stay on your toes if they do plan to shut down the shop for good.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but what happens when the internal battery of the console dies? I just found a PS3 and spent 70 bucks on a bunch of PS1 and 2 games like Suikoden II and Red Star. But people are saying once the internal battery dies you are screwed.
Definitely a real problem as time goes on. We've not had a battery die on us but they will eventually of course. Best case replace it soon while you can still re-download your content. Great point. Cheers!

Art Academy Home Studio is a ridiculously cool Wii U eshop exclusive. Also, Wii Sports Club is alot of fun, and way cheaper on the eshop than the disc version. Nice video here, but just a little constructive criticism from a first time viewer: try not to cut each other off so often (this is mostly for the guy on the left, with the ballcap). You guys dont need to be super hyperactive to do well on youtube. It's okay to be more laid back. Anyways, cheers and best of luck to both of you!
It is pretty wild and has a lot of value. The DS options are awesome because of the dual screens. We just wish there were more games. Thanks for watching and cheers to the Wii U!
I live in the Philippines and I just scored BIG. Last week, I bought a physical copy of Wii U’s Devil Third on Lazada (Philippines version of Amazon) for $40. US Version, brand spanking new, sealed, and never opened.
I wouldn’t download any nes/snes/gba games because you can easily emulate them. I would get N64 games because Nintendo is never going to make an N64 classic.
I think the only way the Wii U and 3DS eShop should close down in all territories is if the Switch’s eShop closes down and Nintendo releases another “advanced” console to replace the Switch.
Play Severed and Guacamelee! You both will not regret it. The Wii U has the best version of both these games, the map is on the gamepad for Guac and Severed (which draws inspiration from Punchou!) uses the gamepad very well. Very well priced right now. You will love them both.
Haven't played Severed but own Guacamelee on the Switch and Vita. But......if you say the tablet makes it better looks like we may have to buy it again :). Cheers!
The DS games you can play on the tablet and the TV will be missed. I never understood why Nintendo did not release a DS/3DS add on for the Wii U, like the Gameboy player for the GameCube.. Since a 2DS at one point was going for $80 with Mario Kart 7. Just imagine how little this would have cost Nintendo at the time. The barebones of a 2DS and a firmware update for the Wii U. A real missed opportunity.
Sin and punishment on the n64 is amazing. One of the best game released on the console imo. Japan only release, but does have English voicing and subtitles. Absolutely worth the money.
@@GamingOffTheGrid It's extra great on the Wii U cause you can remap buttons so you can play with dual analog (movement and aiming) and also works great on the GamePad.
Always appreciate tips of games to check out, especially digital only and sure to be gone soon titles. Also--the SMB Advance games are good grabs--the one with SMB3 has all the E-reader exclusive stages--an excellent pickup. Good 'ol Pseudo Sue! Hmmm, wonder who introduced that one to us... Wes, we gotta work on your Claw voice--hit me up sometime. LOL
Lords of Thunder is a fantastic shoot-em up for the turbografx-cd (turbo-duo). It’s about a $400-500 game physically and one of the most underrated shooters out there.
Another Great Video Guys! One N64 title I would grab if you didn’t already get it on the Wii E shop before it closed is Sin and Punishment. Great Japanese exclusive game that I think would be up your Ally especially the two player mode.
I was curious if you bought a digital copy of a game like Fatal Frame and store it on your Wii u or external hard drive, If and when the eshop closes, can you play fatal frame still? Or does it become useless on your Wii u???
I’ve had to subscribe just for the million dollar man intro , I’ve got a wii u I bought of of eBay mint Zelda edition should I update it or just leave it in the box as it’s a pain in the arse to put back nicely just wondering you’re thoughts ? Thanks
2 games I recommend: Duck Hunt uses the Wiimote and even has the old zapper sound effect and Super Mario bros 3(the super mario advance version) has ALL the e reader card levels built into the version. I also got that Excitbike you mentioned, awesome version since it had a Famicom game 1 I am debating is Mario Vs. donkey kong tipping stars. Great video bros!
MUST PLAY!!! Dungeons & Dragons chronicles of Mystara. It’s a capcom beat em up bundle featuring the 2 D&D arcade beatem up games. Those games are not on many stores now so I definitely suggest it. Thanks for all the info in this video and the handheld stuff will be my key games to get honestly. Thank you guys. Cheers!
the eshop closure wouldn't just be bad for the common user but also for anyone that wants to install the homebrew launcher on their system. you need 1 of 3 eshop titles to inject the launcher code into and that simply won't be possible anymore once we lose that shop.
Fatal Frame and Devils Third are must haves for me. Never even thought of some of the other games on this list but I will now. And hopefully get all the games I want before the store closes. Great video guys!
Every game I downloaded on my original Wii eventually stopped working. I bought another Wii and downloaded more games, and now those are starting to fail. I worry that the Wii U might have the same fate. These games could be gone forever!

I am glad I found your channel. I am big Wii U fan. I think getting a complete Wii u game collection is pretty doable at the moment. Eventually, the prices will go to the moon. The supply for the Wii U is the lowest of any nintendo console and the library of games is so good. Keep the good work!
Glad you found us as well. It's tough to get seen as a small channel these days. And you are spot on! I picked up Zelda: Spirit Tracks on the Wii U eShop because.... price on the 3DS is nuts, and they don't offer a DS download of the game (WHY???). But, for $10, I've got it on my Wii U and can use the touchscreen to play. I'd do the same for Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, but I was smart and already have that on the DS. Have a good one!!

You can technically purchase them on Nintendo.com if you have a Nintendo account. But you'd have to create a Nintendo Network ID on the Wii U, then link it to your Nintendo account, in order to then download them. Probably best to just wait and get the console first.

Oh man I got to jump on fatal frame. I’ve never played one and it seems like the Wii U version would be the best way to experience it for the first time.
Great series. The first 3 feel more dated for sure. Maiden of Black Water feels a bit more modern but does the series very well. Thanks a ton for watching and hope you enjoy the games. Cheers!
GOTG Nintendo just announced late March 2023 the Wii U & 3DS eShops will not be available to make purchases. You guys are always entertaining & informative!
Here's my issue. Out of the digital only Wii U games the only one I'm interested in is Fatal Frame. I played the free chapters and enjoyed it. The price is nice. The problem is the external hard drive part. You need one that gets its own power supply. The cheapest ones are double the price of the game. Most are around $100. To pay that kind of money for one game is something I'm really struggling with. If the thing just used regular usb or ssd like the PS3 did I would have no issues. Or, you know, if the Wii U didn't have a laughably small amount of storage space.
We use the Wii U to power the Hard Drive. So we plug the HD into one USB port and the power into another USB port. It gives it enough juice and we've had no issues. If you DM us on socials or email us at retroffthegrid@gmail.com I can send you a pic of the Hard Drive and cables we got. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid I appreciate that. That's very kind of you guys to offer but it wont be necessary. I'd watched some videos on UA-cam in the past on the subject but not every video. I just spent around 40 minutes watching more videos I hadn't seen (most aren't even 5 minutes long so quite a few). Two of them explained what I wasn't understanding. I was under the mistaken impression that the Wii U itself didn't have enough power left over in it to power an external hard drive and the hard drive needed to be plugged in for that reason. What I was missing, which I got curious about after your comment, is it's not the Wii U itself. It's that (and I really wish more people including Nintendo would clarify this) it doesn't have enough power for one usb port to get the job done. That's why plugging into 2 works. I got really confused when I first read your comment because I was like "If the system can't draw enough power why would using 2 or even all of the usb ports work?" Now that I understand that this is going to be a lot easier. I was looking at external hard drive that can be independently powered and they're like $150. A regular one you can use a Y-Cable with is like $20.
@@chaospoet To add, if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can open up the console and bridge the 5V points of the two rear USB ports. This essentially builds the Y cable into the console so you can just plug into one port. Just make sure you don't plug something into the other port since then you'll not have enough power. I did this because Y cables can be finicky (in my case the plastic housing for the ports made them push on eachother and disconnect). The Wii U ports use USB 2.0 and (I'm not sure why other USB 2.0 consoles like the Wii don't have this issue as much) each port only does up to 500MaH, so you're capped to 2.5W. With the bridge/solder mod you can get 1Amp (5W).
No, it's still open. I purchased nine Virtual Console titles yesterday - Breath of Fire 1 & 2, Demon's Crest, Gargoyle's Quest II, Kirby's Adventure, Kirby and the Crystal Shards, Ogre Battle 64, Onimusha Tactics and Ufouria. I love the Wii U.
Hey chaps, since I found your channel a few months ago I’ve watched the majority of your previous vids and throughly enjoyed them. Many of your game and music recommendations have been right up my street and I felt compelled to post my first UA-cam comment, if only to say keep up the great work, you are killing it. I’m in my mid-thirties, have a little boy and a pretty full-on design job that keeps me extremely busy/tired, and although gaming is my favourite hobby and escape (even more so during the pandemic) I sometimes prefer to watch a video on the subject rather than actually play. As such, I follow alot of gaming channels and yours is my favourite by a mile. The chemistry you chaps have really comes across and is a joy to watch. You’re clearly goal oriented, but nothing ever feels contrived or forced. Your positivity, especially in the face of those that choose to invest their energy negativity is refreshing and funny. During the lockdowns where I can’t visit friends, bash games and chat shit over a beer, it’s been a pleasure listening to you both. I moved house during the pandemic and set myself a project of creating a game room. It is taking shape nicely and when I am able to gather with mates again, my ever growing stack of couch co-op games is going to blow them away, you’ve put me on to some real dingers. As for Wii U virtual console games, I’d throw Drill Dozer (GBA) in to the mix, having great fun on this in short bursts, and wasn’t available here back in the GBA’s heyday. If ever in the UK give me a nudge - there’s a few beers with your name on it.

This video just got more interesting…
I watch this on my xbox 360 so I cant leave comments so I had to pick up my phone to say I spit coffee all over my tv when the yorkie was humping the pillow out of nowhere. You guys are awesome.
LMFAO!!!! Dude we sneak him in a lot of videos and very few people catch it or say anything. It's always way out of context but we laugh our asses off every times.
I was really hoping you’d make a video like this. Definitely found a few games here I’m gonna grab
We've been told about that and just forgot to get it. I'm going to snag it tonight :). Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid You won’t regret it!
SDs are for Wii games and Hacks only, and no, USB STICKS DONT WORK, they die quickly
@@LennyQUMFIF so external hd only then?
@@Faustustopheles Yea, and you need a "Y cable" (a splitter, a USB for data and the other for power) because the Wii U doesn't provide enough power.
As far as I know is that you can't buy at the Wiiu and 3ds Eshop with Debit or credit cards. Only Ninitendo cards will work starting Jan 2022.
But yeah stay on your toes if they do plan to shut down the shop for good.
@@Nintendude. thanks. That's what I'm beginning to understand. I did go ahead and purchase all the SMT and Etrian games.
I'm trying top buy games on the Wii u but it keeps telling me I need Wii points but it doesn't let me. Can some one help?
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but what happens when the internal battery of the console dies? I just found a PS3 and spent 70 bucks on a bunch of PS1 and 2 games like Suikoden II and Red Star. But people are saying once the internal battery dies you are screwed.
Got the games on PSN store.
Definitely a real problem as time goes on. We've not had a battery die on us but they will eventually of course. Best case replace it soon while you can still re-download your content. Great point. Cheers!
Welp...tome to do some WiiU eShop Shopping! It makes me sad to see these digital stores close and it is a HUGE con to digital gaming that I don't see a good way to combat it outside of piracy. I am almost glad people rip these games and put them on the internet because in a way they are helping to keep the games live. Cheers guys!
I bought blazing lasers on tg16 on my Wii Eshop years ago. The shop is now gone. If I transfer my Wii to a Wii U, will I loose that game?
Man, I wish we could help. We've never done the transfer so not sure on the transfer. Best of luck. Cheers!
Is it necessary to store Wii U digital games on a hard drive outside of the Wii U?
No, you can store them on the internal drive.
Fast Racing is nice once you get the hang of it. The revamped version Fast RMX was a great launch title for Switch.
Different game or just revamped. If it's different we might need to pick it up. Thanks for the info. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid this is so gosh darn stupid esspicaly with the ps3 cbomb issue
@@GamingOffTheGrid at least you can use physical games on ps3 even with the cbomb but I bought like 7 smt games for like $70 so hopefully my cbomb doesnt die before i finish them all
Thanks guys. You helped me select some nes games to my wishlist. What n64 games do you recommend?
SM64, MK64, Smash 64, Mario Party 2 (those are some i recomend)
Download Super Mario Advance 4 (Super Mario bros 3). The Wii U port of this GBA game included the GBA e-reader levels.
On it. We had heard about this before and spaced it off and hadn't picked it up. Thanks for the heads up.
It’s also ok for them to be whoever they want.
Im actually amazed the store is still active very suprised
It is pretty wild and has a lot of value. The DS options are awesome because of the dual screens. We just wish there were more games. Thanks for watching and cheers to the Wii U!
So wondering if you have downloaded games will you loose them if they close the shop
@@johanthannelson1073 no
@@GamingOffTheGrid Hey! Does it only not work for me now or is it down?
$300 Earthbound cart maybe... The game with the strat guide in the box I've seen going for north of $1200 in some retro shops around my area.
It's definitely insane. I'm sure it's way more than I said. The data in the files of my mind is always like 3-5 years behind LOL. Cheers!
What about softmoded consoles with coldboot haxchi?
I have so many games on my Wishlist, and i will make said wishlist empty.
Same. I got 3 50$ Giftcards for my Wii U.
“we really dont give a shit about the n64”
but those hats...
It was a tongue in cheek comment. There are about 10 games on the console that we love lol
I think the only way the Wii U and 3DS eShop should close down in all territories is if the Switch’s eShop closes down and Nintendo releases another “advanced” console to replace the Switch.
Great episode fellas! Found you through Riggs and I'll be back!
Awesome man! Thanks a ton for stopping by. Much appreciated. Cheers!
Cheers!
When does it close?
It hasn’t been announced yet. Our guess is within the next 2 years. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
ok so believe it or not i never had a gamecube wii or wii u and i want to buy one on 2021 to mod it can i still download modded games?
Good call! We have it on our original Wii so never looked into it on the Wii U. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid It's extra great on the Wii U cause you can remap buttons so you can play with dual analog (movement and aiming) and also works great on the GamePad.
@@tsunamirider9895 Glad that Sin and Punishment is also confirmed on Nintendo Switch Online.
I'm going to have to pick up some ds games on the wii u because this is the only way to officially play ds games on a tv
How many games are still online?
Always appreciate tips of games to check out, especially digital only and sure to be gone soon titles. Absolutely going to have to look into the Fatal Frame game and double check some of the NES titles to make sure I have them.
LOL
Dude I know! I used to have it down perfectly as a kid but as I've gotten older I've lost it. Now it makes me cough LMFAO!
You boys are gonna cost me a fortune with all these Wii U games I now need
Lords of Thunder is a fantastic shoot-em up for the turbografx-cd (turbo-duo). It’s about a $400-500 game physically and one of the most underrated shooters out there.
Another Great Video Guys! One N64 title I would grab if you didn’t already get it on the Wii E shop before it closed is Sin and Punishment. Great Japanese exclusive game that I think would be up your Ally especially the two player mode.
Thanks man! We have that one on the good ol' Wii. Epic game indeed. Cheers!
I was curious if you bought a digital copy of a game like Fatal Frame and store it on your Wii u or external hard drive, If and when the eshop closes, can you play fatal frame still? Or does it become useless on your Wii u???
You can still play it
I’ve had to subscribe just for the million dollar man intro , I’ve got a wii u I bought of of eBay mint Zelda edition should I update it or just leave it in the box as it’s a pain in the arse to put back nicely just wondering you’re thoughts ? Thanks
LOL! Everybody has a price dude :)! Cheers!
They just announce its closure date as January 2022
We knew it would happen sooner of later. It was just a matter of time. Glad we got this video out when we did. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
2 games I recommend: Duck Hunt uses the Wiimote and even has the old zapper sound effect and Super Mario bros 3(the super mario advance version) has ALL the e reader card levels built into the version. I also got that Excitbike you mentioned, awesome version since it had a Famicom game
1 I am debating is Mario Vs. donkey kong tipping stars. Great video bros!
Awesome picks guys! I'm always finding new games that I missed back in the day form you guys! Thanks!
Drill Dozer is a GBA game made by gamefreak
never got released in europe so the Wii U eschop version is the only way to go for us
MUST PLAY!!! Cheers!
Thanks for the heads up man. I'll snag it tonight. Coming through in the clutch breh! Cheers!
I’m waiting for the sale for that one along with oddworld new and tasty
Congratulations on 10k I will always be watching!
Thanks a ton bro! Can't thank you enough for hanging out with us and all the support. Cheers!
the eshop closure wouldn't just be bad for the common user but also for anyone that wants to install the homebrew launcher on their system. you need 1 of 3 eshop titles to inject the launcher code into and that simply won't be possible anymore once we lose that shop.
Thanks for the info. We have modded our Wii but yet to do the Wii U. Gonna have to get that done ASAP. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Fatal Frame and Devils Third are must haves for me. Never even thought of some of the other games on this list but I will now. And hopefully get all the games I want before the store closes. Great video guys!
Thanks a ton man! Tons of value on the Wii U. Hopefully the store stays up through 2021 but nothing would surprise us at this point. Cheers!
Congrats on hitting 10K!!!!!!!

Thanks a ton man! Really appreciate it. It's been one hell of a ride so far. We'll see where it goes from here. Thanks for all the support. Cheers!
Every game I downloaded on my original Wii eventually stopped working. I bought another Wii and downloaded more games, and now those are starting to fail. I worry that the Wii U might have the same fate. These games could be gone forever!
Good thing in the Wii's case is we have all the Wii Ware games backed up. If you ever need them again we could do a quick mod for you and hook you up. I'm not as savvy with the Wii U.....yet. Let us know if we can help. Would be glad to. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Hey guys! That is very generous of you. We just may have to take you up on that offer some day! I was just trying to play Castlevania Rebirth on the Wii, and the game was POSSESSED; totally unplayable. I downloaded several obscure titles (Neo Geo, TG-16, and exclusive Wii Shop titles) because I thought I would own them forever. And now they are breaking down. Just another example of why physical media is so important. Cheers Wes and Rob!
The hate for 64 though, that console had some of the best games of all time
It does have some great games for sure. Our issue with it is outside of the top 10 or 15 games there's not a ton of must play titles. At the time it was out though we absolutely loved it. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Bro, I didn’t even know this. WHY NINTENDO? FIRST, original Wii, NOW THE WII U?? REALLY
Can you do a similiar video about the 3ds eshop? That probably will shut down at the same time as the Wii u-shop
We might have to. We have one coming down the pipe for the PS3. Might look into the 3DS next. We don't know a ton about handhelds though. Always been console guys. Cheers!
And here we are, the day has come where they kill the eshop... dark times
Just found you guys! Good luck on ur channels growth, keep up the positive vibes!
Metroid Prime Trilogy for only $19.99 compared to around $100 for a used physical copy.

Thanks for the info sir. We'll be doing some shopping tonight. We love both those genres :). Cheers!
The low install base coupled with the fact that it's Nintendo is the perfect recipe for an insane collectors market in the coming years. Now is the time to get in on the Wii U for sure. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Thanks! I found you because I was looking for a video of a complete wii u physical collection.
@@GamingOffTheGrid how do us the UK get any games from e-shop??
[ UK is shut down]
I picked up Zelda: Spirit Tracks on the Wii U eShop because.... price on the 3DS is nuts, and they don't offer a DS download of the game (WHY???). But, for $10, I've got it on my Wii U and can use the touchscreen to play. I'd do the same for Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, but I was smart and already have that on the DS. Have a good one!!
I think Nano Assault Neo is worth checking out. I do believe it was released on ps4s shop as well, but it's still pretty cool.
Don't know when you guys made this video but fatal frame is still $49.99.
We were kinda guessing because we have it downloaded so it doesn't show us the price on our console. But I do know we got it on sale at one point just don't exactly remember how much. Cheers!
Was going to chime in to say this. But it actually is worth the $50 if you like survival horror. Truly outstanding game.
@@baronhausenpheffer it is but my memory is a issue for my wii u plus I've been holding out hope for a switch port but it's been 4 years so idk what to do lol
@@christopherbee8635 There's no chance of the game ever appearing on that platform. Not only does the game rely on the Gamepad extensively, Koei Tecmo doesn't have the authority to re-release the game themselves. It's not happening.
@@dontegraves5051 not with that attitude. Plus the switch has gyro and you need to press a button to switch between the camera and character anyway so it's not a big deal. Nintendo is just being gay about it.

Looks like I need to move on this quick , I still don't have a Wii U and I don't think I can purchase digital without a Wii U ID..
You can technically purchase them on Nintendo.com if you have a Nintendo account. But you'd have to create a Nintendo Network ID on the Wii U, then link it to your Nintendo account, in order to then download them. Probably best to just wait and get the console first.
Are saying any games we purchase digitally will be unplayable?!
Was thinking of buying Twilight Princess HD on the Wii U, but don’t want to spend £40 on the game if it’ll be unplayable when the shop shuts 😱
No. The games will still be playable. But if you don't have them then you won't be able to get them. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

Hell ya. Great console for Zelda fans indeed. Most Zelda games in one place I'm pretty sure. So are you thinking of customizing the outside of the console? Or just the game selection on it dedicated to Zelda?
I'd recommend fast racing neo.
It started as a Eshop game that ended up getting a physical release.
It got a physical? Where are you located? I was pretty sure it didn't get one in the U.S. but if so I need to track it down :). Cheers!

No prob! Game and Wario is stupid expensive right now. Probably will stay that way for a physical copy. Cheers!
Who else is here in light of recent announcements?
@@shanez1215 I just use an SSD, power requirements are low works great and doesn't need a Y cable

Man, this is an awesome comment to receive. Thanks a ton for reaching out. Always nice to hear when our little channel is reaching folks who appreciate what we are doing.
