Gotta love the Wii U. Definitely underrated and did so many things right. We do really enjoy our Switch but not quite as much as the good ol' Wii U. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
I just bought a Wii U because I have pretty much skipped Nintendo since the early Gamecube days. I'm in love with the console. It may end up being my favorite ever. It helps that I have a 4 year old that is obsessed with Mario. I'm becoming a Nintendo fanboy all the sudden.
Very cool! Which Mario? Kids seem to go nuts for 3d World. Which is nice for parents because it's an amazing game. Thanks a ton for watching and cheers to the Wii U!
Yeah, wii u was first new system I had since original xbox lol. I wanted wii u because cheap way to get back into it some and have some fun gaming with my young children. Mario 3d world seems to me like it was made with parents and young children playing together in mind. So much fun to be able to play and carry them through (sometimes literally) the more difficult parts. Low frustration for them and fun for us all. I also like the versatility of the system with different controllers, classic game downloads, and the ability to play wii game discs too.
@@GamingOffTheGrid Super Mario 3D World is my daughter's favorite game of all time (I think my two older neices, as well), which is how I got away with giving her a Wii U for her birthday (and not a Switch 😉 = $).
The Wii U definitely has the better e-shop. The thing is, the Switch COULD have a great e-shop (maybe minus the DS games) if Nintendo would just get their heads out of their ass. The one thing I miss the most though is the duo-screen capability. With the DS, 3DS and Wii-U, they had a great thing going having the map/inventory on one screen with gameplay on the other. It completely changed how many games were played. I hope they bring that functionality back in some way in the future.
You are spot on. And the annoying part about the dual sceens is Nintendo could have done it with the Switch when playing at home. The versatility that would have added would have been great. And the eShop seems so easy yet they avoid it. Game Boy, GBA, N64 and Game Cube should be no brainers. We could go on and on lol. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
I agree with you guys in saying that when it comes to the Switch, it honestly feels like Nintendo just made the Switch what they wanted the Wii U to be. The fact that many of the best Nintendo games on the Switch are either Wii U ports or just sequels to certain Wii U games really to me, that just makes the Wii U a heck of a lot better and one of many reasons why I don't own a Switch currently because it's not really exciting to me anymore, but that's just me. Also to add a few things that the Wii U had over the Switch (and as of making this comment, STILL has over the Switch): - Wii U actually has native voice chat that a number of games supported - You can actually arrange software on the Wii U's Home Menu AND even use folders, as well - You can backup your save data on the system LOCALLY with all games supporting them INCLUDING Virtual Console - You can hack the Wii U and not have to worry about Nintendo giving you the stink eye and banning your console - Switching from TV to a different device is technically better on Wii U, at least for the fact that you don't have to get up and do it, using the Wii U's GamePad - As of making this comment, many of the Wii U's games are much more cheaper than their Switch counterparts and the Wii U and N3DS were the last systems where Nintendo actually did their "Nintendo Selects" series of rereleases
The Wii-U gamepad felt really great in my hands. I had to buy a grip for my switch. I really don't understand how such a popular system feels so uncomfortable. Great video!
Oh yes! We don't have very many but when I was playing through Breath of the Wild a guy I worked with let me borrow his Zelda Amiibos. He had all of them. It was very nice to have the extra loot dropping from the sky :). Cheers!
Loved the video. I have always wondered why I could watch Netflix on WiiU and 3DS and now only Hulu. I loved my WiiU and still do. The only thing I didn't like is the whole range thing with the gamepad. The TV in the family room would let me just play the gamepad in next room. I loved playing all 3 Pikman games and so many Zelda games. Super Mario World is still my favorite. Mario Maker is still the best on WiiU. The game Rayman Legends uses the game pad awesome. The Amibos drove me crazy due to limited supply and scalpers. They were fun to use. I love my Switch (WiiU) and my Switch Lite (3DS). It isn't the same. Love your channel. Just discovered it.
The Wii U also has the nicest feeling optical discs of all time. Love the Primus reference at the end. Special note to all Wii U collectors. Your Bluetooth chip in the tablet WILL die, buy a backup now while they are still available.
Tinker Forward has a video about Gamepad sync issues that any preservationists should watch. A growing screwdriver is ESSENTIAL. Lots of challenges keeping the system operational moving forward but so worth it.lionistsr
I was upset that I had to upgrade to the Wii U at first (finally, after the Switch was released 😆). Now I have 2 Wii U's, I got my 10 year old daughter one, and my brother got one for my neices! Still no Switch, though. 🤣
Using the tablet as the Fatal Frame camera, having Mother 1 & Mother 2/Earthbound on the Wii U and one player controlled zombies in the Ubisoft zombie game. And could've gone down the rabbit hole of what features that games had better features that was exclusive to the Wii U. And the Switch could have all of the Pokémon games so all of the Pokémon can be in one place for Sword & Shield
Nintendo Wii U and Beer!!! Where has this channel been all my life?? Great channel. I only just discovered you guys and I think it's great. Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas.
It is a lot better. Nearly 5 years in and we still don't have hardly any Switch exclusives. I'm in the process of selling my Switch collection to get a Wii U again. There have been too many ports of old games for full price, Wii U ports for full price, and roms on emulators for full price. I haven't ever been Ok with Nintendo switching from a Free to Play Online service to a paid subscription service. I also like how Breath of the Wild used the Gamepad in a unique way for the game. So I'm getting a Wii U again and calling it a day
I've been obsessed with my Wii U. Want to get a second one even. Great video btw guys! I feel like the Wii U is like the second Dreamcast. Didn't sell well, has great games and online and has a dedicated fan base. It's also easy to hack. The Dreamcast has a dedicated community that plays games online. Right now r/WiiU, with over 1 million people joined, has posts for when people are playing certain games online so if you want to get in on that, there you go. I feel like when Nintendo cancels the online service for Wii U, the community is going to revive it like they did for the Wii. And yes Netflix is on Wii U but not the Switch. Hell, Wii U even had Amazon Video. Not sure what happened with the Switch there..
Great comparison and one we have used before. The collecting market will be very similar to the Dreamcast and Saturn at some point. Prices will be insane and lots of folks will wish they had gotten into the Wii U sooner :). Cheers!
The 3DS, Wii U, and Switch are like, the holy trinity of Nintendo systems for me. All three have their pros and cons, but the game libraries are just so damn vast and fun!
I loved my wii u!!! Couple things you missed is the communications that you could actually call them on the wii u's game pad and talk to them and I think see them through the games pad cam :) And when you got a message or call the blue light would lite up in different like 2 quick flashes or 3 flashes like a telephone ring. Was very cool. Plus I think the wii u had more Apps for using like amazon prime or net-flex or others. Oh yea the game pad has a built in sensor bar for the wii motes so the external sensor bar you had to put on top of your tv was not necessary on the wii u :)
Great additions to the list. Damn the Wii U is awesome. The Switch is great too but it definitely took a step back in certain areas. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Love your Wii U coverage! You guys are freaking awesome. I don’t even drink and now I’m thinking I might need to sip on an IPA while I watch your show. I’m going through and watching all of your Wii U content. Thanks for the coverage and Wii U Love.
When I first saw the Wii U I thought it was just a pad accessory for the Wii. I was a bit let down by the Wii's motion controls and found there wasn't any big titles I really liked on the system aside from Mario Galaxy. So the Wii U was passed over by me. When a new Star Fox was announced I was onboard. I will always buy a console if Star Fox was on it, even if the controls for Zero let me down so hard. I really need to get back into it and give it a chance. However in recent months I've been moving to finish my Wii U collection of games I want to play. Nintendo Land Affordable Space Adventures and so many other lovely titles on this console. I can see the love.
One thing I really dislike about the Switch is how a lot of things rely on you to have a separate smart device. The Switch has no web browser, Netflix, etc. You can't even use public WI-FI which requires you to sign in and fill in details. It is an absolute LAZY move on Nintendo's part! Yes I do have a very good smartphone, but sometimes I just want to take a break from the damn thing, and having to open up my phone's web browser can cause me to get distracted by notifications. Also Nintendo is forgetting that many little kids will *not* have a smartphone or tablet as well as a Switch, so is Nintendo even a family company anymore or what?
One great thing about the Wii U is all the games that have been ported to Switch are dirt cheap, meaning if you aren't a 'latest and greatest' type you can accumulate a library of wii U greatest hits for cheap. Why spend $60 on Donkey Kong Switch for funky mode when the Wii U version is like $10 on your local FB marketplace?
I love my Wiiu. I have almost a full library. Basically my Wiiu is my Wii also, and my Wii is my Gamecube, another great system. Backwards compatibility rocks. Love the VC. I criticize Nintendo constantly, but that's because I know how great they can be, and when they aren't it's frustrating.
I love me some Wii U. I was a very late adopter of the Switch because it seemed like most of the best games were all available a lot cheaper on the Wii U. I didn't see a point of picking up a Switch right away... I already got most of the heavy hitters on the Wii U, just looking for some of the more obscure ones now.
Subbed. Awesome video, and great beer! Never played the Wii U, but am doing a screen replacement this week on a broken one I acquired recently. Even more excited to get it up and running now!
Great video guys! Don't have either console yet, but may have to give one a try. I've wanted one for mobile gaming but have been getting by with my Samsung Note 10 & a xbox controller hooked up via blue teeth. Keep up the great work! Loved the song at the end "Jeremiah was a bull snake!" Lol
The switch is fine, but despite how nintendo has change every since it came out. Everything is so nostalgia over wii u and 3ds days. Now the commercials and nintendo entertainment videos are nothing but a bunch of teenagers just talking about how switch is played at home and showing us family gaming routine that barley ever happens in reality. The wii u and 3ds days of commercials were more fun and enjoyable. They may consider bad, but despite how funny they could be. If only have of the videos on the eShops weren't deleted for what so ever reason.
I Iove the Wii U. It was such a great system. I had it but didn't play it for years. I started playing a couple years back and I still love it. I have most of the rarer games.
I bought a used Wii U 2 or 3 years ago from a retro game store. Paid $120 for it with everything included short of the box with a Wii sensor bar, Wiimote and Nunchucks and Zelda Breath of the Wild. Next to getting a Sega Saturn with a complete copy of Astal included for $75 probably the best gaming purchase I ever made. I love the Wii U.
@@GamingOffTheGrid Oh, believe me I was internally screaming while keeping a calm outward demeanor and politely smiling all the while thinking "The game is worth more than the console! Say nothing!" And no problem guys. Keep up the good work! Happy Holidays!
Oh, another thing to add to the list! Switching out games on the Switch vs the Wii U is a pain. The damn system is wiggling around getting scuffed up in the dock while you're taking out and putting in a new cart. Love the eject button on the Wii U. Idk it just feels more premium.
Great point. It definitely is a pain in the ass on the Switch. The Wii U discs are epic as well. Not sure how to explain it but they are the nicest discs we've seen. Thanks a ton for watching and cheers to the Wii U!
@@GamingOffTheGrid I also love the consistency of the box size for the game cases. Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U boxes all the same size so they don't look funny on the shelf together. PS2 and PS3 game boxes anyone?
If I had a time machine, Gaming Off The Grid would be Best Men at my wedding, I would look over, during the Ceremony, and Robert and Wes would give me a thumbs up
Very underrated system! I just got mine and I love the Wii U! I love how I can play all my original wii games on Wii U and they look freaking amazing! Also love the use of the tablet and Wii U graphics still look great.
The only thing that I miss that the Switch doesn't have, is the multi icons on screen, every god damn system is from left to right by the one you used latest cluttering your digital only icons. It's such a mess.
Agree on many things. I deffi have a love relation to the Wii U. But the Switch has risen to be my ALL TIME fav console now.......The dual screen and more retro console games was deffi better for the Wii U. (My fav Nintendo store was the Wii though) Great episode as per gents.......cheers!
The Switch is great no doubt. The annoying thing about it is Nintendo is holding it back. The NES and SNES apps are great. Why not get Game Boy, GBA, N64 and Game Cube in there. It has the potential to do so much. It's still damn good though. Thanks for watching man. Cheers!
I kind of got caught in the middle. I had my 3DS, was buying tons of DS games, Wii and GC games were cheap, so the Wiiu drought didn't really affect me. And, I was able to buy many Wiiu games new for $20 or under. Mass Effect 3 and Need for Speed were $8 each at launch brand new. Hard to beat that. And word of mouth tanked the Wiiu early so prices kept going down. Switch comes out, I am not seeing anything real exciting, plus it's a bunch of Wiiu ports at full price. So that was a hard pass for me, never mind the online debate.
Imo it’s better than the Switch. It had such a Nintendo charm and the controls feel good. The VC is really good, definitely the best VC ever. And more apps. I just love it.
There is a great argument to be made for the Wii U for sure. We love it as well. Really like our Switch too but more time is spent playing our Wii U. Cheers!
Nintendo should have made a 3DS/DS adaptor for the Wii U, like the gameboy player for the GameCube. I'm certain if they had of done this they would have shifted more Wii U's. Having the internals of a 2DS in an external add on would have been awesome. I mean they were selling 2DS's for $60 at one point with Mario Kart 8 included. You take out the screens and controls off that, Nintendo could have made an add on for cheap. And since we have seen on the E shop the selling of DS titles to be used with the controller, to be it was a no brainer and a real missed opportunity to sell more consoles.
For sure! It would have been a major addition and although it wouldn't have completely changed the consoles fate it would have helped drastically and been badass.
To begin let me say. I Love Nintendo. I always have since I was a kid way back in the NES era. That being said....It’s complete non sense the way Nintendo does business at times. A lot of people are like “Well, Nintendo dances to the beat of their own drum.” “They do things how they want too” and kind of shrug it off. The terrible marketing and naming of the WiiU console. The changes to the E-shop from Wii to WiiU and then to the Switch. The under production and shortages of the NES classic mini and SNES classic mini. The decision to make Super Mario 3-D all stars a limited time release (although that may not be a bad business decision. Time will tell). Their shareholders have to scratch their heads often and wonder how much more profit could be made for the company. They could do so much better by just listening to their fan/customer base. Both for profit and for customer satisfaction.
I feel like I'm reading something I wrote lol! I have talked about this very thing for a long time. I think a lot of Nintendo fans think that there is some mad scientist type of master plan behind every thing Nintendo does and a lot of times it's that there isn't a plan. Or it's a rushed underdeveloped plan that sends them into scramble mode to get product on the shelves. Love the company and probably always will but we are definitely on the same page here. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Yea I played through it with no problems almost to the end then had to take a small break. I came back and forgot where I was so I started it over and ever since it randomly crashes :/ Don't do it on any other games and I bought the WiiU brand new in 2016. Who knows dudes. Anyway thanks for the ideas on local coop games fellows \m/\m/
Gamecube compatability is why I still have an original Wii, yet I play all my Wii games on the Wii U. lol In terms of durability the Switch Lite feels more like a smaller Wii U gamepad. I don't feel like the thing is going to break while I'm playing it. I don't have an actually Switch yet, but I've heard people complain about how sometimes the Joycons don't fit nice and snug on the main console and they feel loose. If I do buy a Switch, I would probably leave it docked and you a pro controller.
I just wish Nintendo let the Gamepad be just player 2's screen in MK8. Like Treyarch did in Blops 2. I bought a glass screen protector for my Switch and put it on right after unboxing it cause of what I heard about the screen. Also replaced my Gamepads digitizer with a nice glass one.
I never got a Wii U, but interesting to see the differences. As far as the ultimate retro gaming machine I use my modded original Xbox, but it's great to have options for people who might not have an Xbox, but do have a Wii U. The original Wii is also easily hackable from my understanding. Cheers fellas.
Not that anyone is going to watch my review of Super Mario Odyssey, but I don't think the people who do see it are gonna be happy...I gotta say, I haven't really enjoyed my time with Mario Odyssey nearly as much as I would've liked. I feel like the levels are too big and there's way too much to collect...but the things to collect I have 0 interest in. I don't get jazzed about new costume pieces for Mario. Once I'm done with a world there's nothing that makes me want to go back to finish exploring it. And speaking of the worlds...They are some of the least interesting worlds I've ever seen in a Mario game. Everyone raved about New Donk City, and it just seems completely out of place to me. Is it a fun game? Sure...it's a Nintendo Mario game. Is it in the Top 10 best Mario games of all time? Not for me, no. IDK...It was hyped by just about everyone, and it's left me wishing it was more like SM64 or SM Sunshine.
@@charthers8903 it's a fun game, but almost everyone proclaimed it as the best Mario game since (their favorite Mario game). There are a lot of elements that add replay value for a lot of people, especially younger gamers and completionists...I have 0 interest in purchasing different costumes for Mario. And the fact that lives are no longer a factor makes the game way less challenging
The reason why there's no backwards compatibility on the Switch is because of its architecture. The Switch has ARM architecture while the Wii U and Wii had PowerPC. If a console has very different architecture over its predecessor, BC will either not work at all or be very expensive a la the launch PS3. This is also why the PS5 is not backwards compatible with the PS3. And of course there's the obvious fact that the Wii U and Wii used discs. DS and 3DS wouldn't work either because of the form factor, dual screens and touchscreen. The only way I could see it working is if the Switch in handheld mode is played in a vertical orientation (like TATE Mode in some shmups). Docked mode wouldn't work at all for obvious reasons. And then of course there's issues with the architecture.
Great points made throughout. The main thing the Switch could do is expand their offering online to N64, Game Boy, GBA, Wii, Wii U and Game Cube. The only way the DS would work is if the second screen could be on the tablet and the other on the TV or like you holding it vertically. Both are a long shot. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
Dude one would hope. We really hope that a future console will have dual screens to bring DS game backwards compatibility to the living room. Boys can dream :). Thanks for watching man. Cheers!
I bought a WiiU summer of 2020 and my complaint on it is 2 things. Load times feel a little punishing on some games especially Zelda Breath of the Wild and Mighty Number 9, my other complaint is more on me than the consoles fault but why the hell did I wait so long to buy a WiiU? Definitely haven't regretted it and it was $125 used for the 32gig unit when I bought it.
You got into it at a good time. We really believe it will be a highly collected console at some point and prices will get insane. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid I'm thinking it will too. But definitely a missed opportunity not having a DS or 3DS port on it. A lot of that library I would love to check out but I don't own a DS plus I'd rather play those games on a TV. Bought Mario 64 DS from the WiiU shop and don't regret it. I wish Nintendo or a 3rd party would release a dongle that would accept DS carts you could plug into the USB port on the system. It would sell no question. And thank you for the informative and entertaining videos you guys put out.
i would add splinter cell and mass effect 3. i always prefered the wiiu version over other systems if there is notable gamepad support. even if its only the map. like in Black Flag. Shame on Nintendo for cutting out Gamepad features in BOTW.
I am playing breath of the wild rn on Wii U and unfortunately the frame rate gets cyberpunk on ps4 xbox one bad at times. Unacceptable. I wish they would have optimized that version.
I played through it on the Wii U and didn't have major issues. There were some frame rate drops from time to time but nothing that effected my experience. That said I haven't played the Switch version to be able to compare either. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Correct there isn't. But it would have been nice if the Switch had the ability to act as a second screen and you could play on the TV. It doesn't of course but would have been a huge benefit had the developed it that way. Something we wish they had done. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Yesir!!!! We really think the Wii U will be highly collectable in the coming years. Those of us who are in on it now will be able to sit back and smile :). Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Great question. No definitive date has been given at this point but it will happen eventually for sure. Thanks a ton for watching and cheers to the Wii U!
Nintendo really should update wii u by alot. It has so many issues with wifi or settings. Plus Minecraft wii u needs huge update with getting rid of custom skins, bugs, hacks and glitches, there way to many bad things
Haven't played Minecraft on it. We also don't play online so these haven't impacted us. But for folks playing online that sounds like it's annoying. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I think until they bring a substantial virtual console line up to the switch the switch is just eh. I still don't have have one but I have no drive to get one souly because the only games I want are vintage re releases. The switch should have no problem running wii games also. So they are slacking
It is very odd how slowly Nintendo is releasing the online pieces for the Switch. Even if they don't do a full blown eShop they could have apps like the NES and SNES ones for (N64, Game Boy, GBA, Game Cube, etc.) Frustrating to say the least.
Well Mario Odyssey is a good reason and Splatoon 2. I primarily bought my Switch for Metroid Prime 4. Nearly 4 years later and I am still waiting. I still play my Wii U way more than my Switch.
the wiiU really did suffer from poor marketing and deserved a bigger life. but i do love my switch heck i have barely touched the wii u since getting the switch and the main reason is the portability. had Nintendo given the wii u tablet the ability to mount games digitally and disconnect from the wii u for on the go gaming it would have been amazing. as for improvements on the switch why do we nit have folders and themes yet!!
We love our Switch too but damn Nintendo could do so much more with it. Some of which you mention here. And add apps for Gameboy, GBA, N64 and Game Cube. It could be the ultimate gaming machine if they'd dial their asses in. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid oh absolutely add more retro apps. I suspect gameboy will be one app covering the family. I'd put money on it arriving in march. and N64 I feel will arrive late next year especially now they have a running emulator in super mario 3D all Stars. gamecube and wii will be much later add ons however. but yeah switch could easily be the perfect console with some clean up the back catalogue. and just some simple quality of life improvements. oh and release a version 2 joycon with totally different thumbsticks to kill of the drift.
The Wii U was never designed to be portable. Personally I think it works best as a home console. Taking it on the go could be possible if you take the dvd thing to. I think the Wii U remains the best as a home console. That’s just what works for it.
Wii U did everything right ... i own 2 Wii Us & never bought a switch ... you guys missed this one ... 6) Wii U = FREE online to this day! ... Switch online = $20/year ... Wii U 4EVA Baby!!!!!
Oh yes. We were going to bring it up but didn't figure at this point in the life cycle it would sway folks to give it a shot. We had a feeling you'd like this one :). Cheers to the Wii U!
In terms of durability, the Joycons are some of the worst controllers I have ever owned. I've already bought my kids two pairs in addition to the pair that originally came with the Switch itself. All of them have either partially or completely broken down. I've finally decided that for around 90$, they're just not worth buying again. Oh and I also had to replace the Switch's card reader a while back. Considering that I got the Wii U with two games (Mario 3D World and The Wind Maker) for a total of 60$, it was a much better, and smarter investment, in my eyes.
Damn man it has been a rough road for you with that Switch. We've been lucky with ours but also don't have youngsters playing with it. The joy cons are strange. They feel so cheap. But the bright side is we both have a Wii U to fall back to :). Cheers!
Definitely an underrated system.
It is for sure. One of our favorites. Cheers!

Also to add a few things that the Wii U had over the Switch (and as of making this comment, STILL has over the Switch):
- Wii U actually has native voice chat that a number of games supported
- You can actually arrange software on the Wii U's Home Menu AND even use folders, as well
- You can backup your save data on the system LOCALLY with all games supporting them INCLUDING Virtual Console
- You can hack the Wii U and not have to worry about Nintendo giving you the stink eye and banning your console
- Switching from TV to a different device is technically better on Wii U, at least for the fact that you don't have to get up and do it, using the Wii U's GamePad
- As of making this comment, many of the Wii U's games are much more cheaper than their Switch counterparts and the Wii U and N3DS were the last systems where Nintendo actually did their "Nintendo Selects" series of rereleases
The Wii-U gamepad felt really great in my hands. I had to buy a grip for my switch. I really don't understand how such a popular system feels so uncomfortable. Great video!

I love our WiiU....such a shame Nintendo did such an appalling job promoting it.
For sure. They definitely shit the bed. But those of us who know.......we know how badass it is :). Cheers!
I like the wii u for the main reason of playing botw, the feel of the game pad correlating with the sheikah slate
Definitely. I haven't played the game on the Switch to be able to compare but I have no desire to. Thoroughly enjoyed it on the Wii U. Cheers!
I'm upgrading my Wii/Snes classic combo to a Wii U today. More games and less stuff on my shelves. Watching all of your Wii U stuff now

Huge benefit for sure. Thanks for watching man.
The WiiU was certainly not a commercial failure.
Love the console but for Nintendo it was a flop. My guess is they were expecting way more out of it than they got. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
The Wii U also has the nicest feeling optical discs of all time. Love the Primus reference at the end. Special note to all Wii U collectors. Your Bluetooth chip in the tablet WILL die, buy a backup now while they are still available.
eBay the best place for the Bluetooth chip?
Awesome info. Thanks the the heads up. eBay I'm guessing? And yes, the discs. They are epic. Never seen another disc like it. Cheers!
Tinker Forward has a video about Gamepad sync issues that any preservationists should watch. A growing screwdriver is ESSENTIAL. Lots of challenges keeping the system operational moving forward but so worth it.lionistsr
Edit. Triwing screwdriver. Can autocorrect.
I agree 100%.
Glad I found your channel searching for hidden gems on the Wii U, your advice on games is appreciated.
Greetings from Germany!
Very cool! Glad you found us and are enjoying the content. Cheers to the Wii U!
I was upset that I had to upgrade to the Wii U at first (finally, after the Switch was released 😆). Now I have 2 Wii U's, I got my 10 year old daughter one, and my brother got one for my neices! Still no Switch, though. 🤣
Hell ya! It's a great console. We didn't get ours until the Switch came out as well. That's how cheapskates roll lol! Cheers!
Oh yes! All great things you bring up. Now I want to play Zombie U again :).
Nintendo Wii U and Beer!!!
Where has this channel been all my life??
Great channel. I only just discovered you guys and I think it's great.
Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas.
Glad you found us :)! Still a really small channel so getting seen it tough. Merry Christmas to you as well. Cheers!
The only thing the Wii U did wrong was it being named the Wii U, poor marketing strategy
Definitely killed it. It didn't get a fair shake due to piss poor marketing. Cheers!
So I'm getting a Wii U again and calling it a day
I think the Wii U would had a very long run if was released first instead of the WII. The system was Innovative and underrated.
That would have changed things for sure. It definitely came out at a weird time and their branding didn't help anything. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Unless the Switch gets NES Remix I'll always see it as a step down from the Wii U and the 3ds lol.
LOL! That game is like crack! We have been obsessed with it over the last couple months. Can't get enough. Cheers!
Cheers!
Have both a Switch and Wii U. Love both of them. I keep my Wii U hooked up because there are still fun games on it.
Very nice. Sounds very similar to our set up. Really enjoy them both but we have a soft spot in our hearts for the the good ol' Wii U :).
Imagine if the wii u had a ds slot on the gamepad...using the tv as the top screen and the gamepad as the touch screen....such a missed opportunity.
Definitely! That would have been epic and such a benefit as well. Cheers!
Awesome video guys I can certainly agree with all of your points except for the last one. But the rest of the points were very valid! Cheers!
Totally. It's a great time to collect for the Wii U. At some point that will get a lot tougher due to prices. But for now it's great. Cheers!
The Wii U is great. It's a fun time to collect for it too. That window will close eventually. Prices will get insane at some point. Cheers!
Subbed. Awesome video, and great beer! Never played the Wii U, but am doing a screen replacement this week on a broken one I acquired recently. Even more excited to get it up and running now!
Thanks a ton for your support and kind words! Best of luck on that repair. Love us some Wii U. Very underrated console. Cheers!
You missed the perfect segue should have been "And something that isn't on the Wii U or Switch ... this beer".
LOL! Damn it!
LMFAO! I don't even know why that's funny but it is :)
Very underrated for sure. We love out Switch as well but the Wii U gets a lot more play time from us :). Cheers!
Great purchase indeed. But that Saturn score holy hell that's nice. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
@@braillynn Another great point. The Switch cases are tough to display. Definitely not ideal for a media shelf lol.
The Wii U battery replacement is so much easier on the gamepad.
Haven't had to do that yet but it's good to know that it's easy :). Inevitably we will have to do this at some point. Cheers!
If I had a time machine, Gaming Off The Grid would be Best Men at my wedding, I would look over, during the Ceremony, and Robert and Wes would give me a thumbs up
*cuts to the scene* “hey guys you don’t know me but will you be best men at my wedding?”
Dude get the fuck out of here
Dude that would be badass lol! We'd have a good time that's for sure. We may be the only 3 laughing but whatever :). Cheers!
LOL! We'd have done it. Receptions are so damn fun
Very underrated system! I just got mine and I love the Wii U! I love how I can play all my original wii games on Wii U and they look freaking amazing! Also love the use of the tablet and Wii U graphics still look great.
So underrated! People need to give it a chance! Cheers!
The only thing that I miss that the Switch doesn't have, is the multi icons on screen, every god damn system is from left to right by the one you used latest cluttering your digital only icons. It's such a mess.
Fuk yeah
That is a great point. Definitely annoying as hell. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
It's probably been mentioned, but don't forget about the video/streaming apps on the Wii u and not on the Switch (yet)
Oh yes! We briefly touch on it at the end of the video. Why the hell hasn't the Switch got that added yet? Crazy! Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid ok cool, an ad came on and I thought I finished the vid 😅
But yeah I don't get why the switch is so behind on those
Agree on many things.
Thats a good price to get in on alot of Wii U games! We love the Wii U so we agree with you! Cheers!
Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid thanks homie.
Cheers!
Does your Zelda BotW ever freeze up? Mine does from time to time on my Wii U.... Great as usual dudes \m/
We have yet to run into that on ours. We've heard of some having that issue though. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed. Cheers to the Wii U!
They did fix the battle mode tho when they brought mk8 to the switch.
We play our docked 90% of the time due to many of the things you mentioned. Great point about the Lite as well. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
After watching this, I just want to drink beer 🍺 and play video games.
LOL! Well shoot. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
You son of a bitch..."Short story long" is MY expression!
the Zelda BOTW version for the Wii U was originally meant to have second screen, the sheikah tablet!!
... and yes, if you hack it, you can even play gamecube games whit hardware, no emulation!!!
We need to figure out that hack ASAP :)!
Great point! I only played BOTW on the Wii U so can't compare to the Switch but was never inclined to play it any other way. Cheers!
I never got a Wii U, but interesting to see the differences. As far as the ultimate retro gaming machine I use my modded original Xbox, but it's great to have options for people who might not have an Xbox, but do have a Wii U. The original Wii is also easily hackable from my understanding. Cheers fellas.
The original Wii is very hackable. We heard great things about the XBox as well but have yet to tackle that beast. Cheers!
awesome video bought a zelda wii u for just 120 $
Damn! Very nice. That Zelda game pad is badass for sure. Enjoy. Cheers!
Very interested. I'll have to check that one out. Always love a good hot take on a popular opinion. Cheers!
Important opinion.. I think you’re absolutely right.. Retro gamers imo have a completely different outlook on games and what makes them great..
The new DreamCast/GameCube
That's our prediction for the collecting market for it. Time will tell
Cheers!
Glory to the Wii U master race!
Yeah it is awesome! Thanks for watching! Cheers
Awesome vid
Thanks a ton man! Glad you enjoyed. Cheers!
Any chance of any of these features being included in the next switch?
Dude one would hope. We really hope that a future console will have dual screens to bring DS game backwards compatibility to the living room. Boys can dream :). Thanks for watching man. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Thanks - Love the channel!
The Wii U does more things better than every console ever made!
i would add splinter cell and mass effect 3. i always prefered the wiiu version over other systems if there is notable gamepad support. even if its only the map. like in Black Flag. Shame on Nintendo for cutting out Gamepad features in BOTW.
We have those for others and not the wii u sounds like we need them for the wii u! Cheers!
Cheers!
The next Nintendo switch should take some Wii U features.
Getting back into dual screens would be nice. Being able to play the DS catalog would depend on it.
There's no second screen on the switch. How would DS games work?
Correct there isn't. But it would have been nice if the Switch had the ability to act as a second screen and you could play on the TV. It doesn't of course but would have been a huge benefit had the developed it that way. Something we wish they had done. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
The Wii U failed because it was late to the party. The Wii U should of been the Wii. The Wii should of been in HD from the jump.
The Wii U had amazing boxes. I’ve got 7 of the different variants and the box art is amazing
There were some very cool variants for sure. The make for great game room decor. Cheers!
At least the Wii U was a real console. The Switch is just a handheld with a dock mode and it outputs like crap on HD and 4K tvs.
Long live the Wii U.
Yesir!!!! We really think the Wii U will be highly collectable in the coming years. Those of us who are in on it now will be able to sit back and smile :). Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I play Mario maker 2 on my switch lite for the vary reason on the Wii u tab controls are the same just bout with handheld mode
We still haven't grabbed MM 2 but need to for sure. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
How much longer until the WiiU online gets shut off?
Great question. No definitive date has been given at this point but it will happen eventually for sure. Thanks a ton for watching and cheers to the Wii U!
I will never sell my WiiU
We are in the same boat. Love this console. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid without the WiiU we wouldn't have the Switch
Nintendo really should update wii u by alot. It has so many issues with wifi or settings. Plus Minecraft wii u needs huge update with getting rid of custom skins, bugs, hacks and glitches, there way to many bad things
Haven't played Minecraft on it. We also don't play online so these haven't impacted us. But for folks playing online that sounds like it's annoying. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I just wish the Switch hadn't killed the Game boy. The 3DS is basically dead now :(
😔
It is but you can still collect for it and keep it alive in your heart :). Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid ya!
Yes.
the Wii U gamepad could also act as a tv remote. A TV REMOTE. not even the switch can do that.
@@b8conbear330 i agree it works great but the tablet could have had remote gaming added to it via wifi so the console could stay at home.
Wii U did everything right ... i own 2 Wii Us & never bought a switch ... you guys missed this one ... 6) Wii U = FREE online to this day! ... Switch online = $20/year ... Wii U 4EVA Baby!!!!!
My thoughts exactly!! Wii U ROCKS
Cheers!
WiiU forever!
Boom! Gotta love it. Cheers to the Wii U!
Can we get more Wii U stuff?
We're trying man. We've done quite a few over the last few months. Not sure what else to cover at this point lol. Cheers!
Lol thanks it’s fine
still playing wii and wiiu guitar hero on wiiu much better
Gotta love it. Guitar Hero is a blast for sure. Cheers to the Wii U!
The Wii U is in 3rd Grade!
It's just a boy. By the time it's in high school collecting for it will be insane.
I still love my wii u
