3DS eShop Closure Complete Thorough Checklist - All freebies plus recommendations, 150+ picks

- Do you have a 3DS-family system? Watch Secondhand Gameplay's complete and thorough checklist of what the eShop can offer you, including all free games/applications and over 150+ titles I recommend a look at before the closure, which I have found by combing through every publisher's titles on the eShop! Also plenty of general info on the closure, recommended storage size, and some Wii U picks as well! I focused on games that will be difficult/impossible to own after the closure in a legal format, specifically from the non-emulating North American consumer's perspective! This is my first scripted video and I'm not great at editing, so bear with me on my video quality. I captured most of my footage manually with a camera against my 3DS, since I don't have a 3D capture card, and wanted to get the video out quicker, so I cut some corners by using stills or art from some games instead of video. The information is the most important part in my opinion, and I tried to summarize what I consider the most important facets from a collector/preservationist's perspective. I know I must have missed some small details, useful knowledge, or obscure game pick, so please comment with recommendations I might've missed, and I may be making my own comments with other finds, as I am still researching even after I release this checklist!
Thanks so much for watching!!!
Update from Lang:
-Many people seem to be asking why I did not include games with physical copies which are easier to obtain on the eShop. The main reason is that this video is focused more on the games that are leaving with the eShop, and games with physical copies can be played after the eShop is gone. However, obviously, you should feel free to purchase any game you don't intend on buying physically, such as most Atlus games and some other ones like Yo-Kai Watch 3 and Rhythm Heaven which are expensive physically. As stated in the video, I wrote the script from the perspective of an avid collector, and plan on obtaining these physical copies one day, so my priority was to focus on games that cannot be obtained later, even if you had a few hundred dollars to spare. I did have to cut the video off at some point or else I may as well have just listed every game on the eShop line by line, and then there would be no point of making the video!
-Also, as for those who comment about pirating, I am not going to tell everyone to pirate on my channel, despite what some may debate about morality or legality. The morality of piracy on a dead platform is for each individual to decide for themselves and act upon it no matter the debated legality of it, and if you decide to pirate/hack/etc, then that's your prerogative. But I am making this video for those of us who decide to do things this way for one reason or another, either to make sure they are being completely legitimate or to support the individual creators rather than the platform, which is not a strictly better or worse way of enjoying the 3DS, just a different approach than piracy! If you want to just hack your 3DS and pirate/emulate, then perhaps this video is not for you, but thanks for watching to everyone anyways! The 3DS (and any game system for that matter) should ideally be enjoyed however YOU like it!
-For those of you who wish I talked about a different game, thanks for sharing! Many games listed in the comments are ones I looked at but cut for some reason or another, and is precisely why I stated at the end that my research is ongoing and that discussion is encouraged in the comments, and I have definitely added to my eShop collection after hearing many suggestions. Thanks for the discussions!
-And finally, thanks all for the influx of likes, views, comments, and subscribers to my little channel! My channel was normally a dumb little let's play channel dedicated to cataloguing my collection of games with the occasional company of my soon-to-be-wife, who goes by Lily online (also I go by my middle name Lang on the internet). So I'm sorry if you subbed thinking this was a guide channel when most of my videos are just me and sometimes my fiancee goofing off in front of random games, but I hope you enjoy us hanging out too!
I actually go back to this vid all the time. Not saying pirating or hacking is good or bad but everyone should at least buy from the indie devs on the 3DS eShop. They'll no longer rely on the 3DS to make money. They're the ones that will get hurt the most imo.
I heard that badge arcade is unusable when the eshop closes
@@ThatD1spynser Where did you hear that? The option to purchase extra plays will be gone, but since they give you two free plays a day it should be just fine. They aren't closing all online services, just the ability to make purchases, so Badge Arcade's free plays should not be immediately affected
What microSD Card would be recommended for the New 3DS? I’ve stuck with the original 4gb card that it came with but I’ve been looking to buy more games, specifically virtual console games. I’m not sure if I should stick to the 32gb limit or format to FAT32 and get a 128gb.
@@secondhandgameplay Nintendo Badge Arcade is a 2014 game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. It is a virtual UFO catcher that allows players to win badges to customize their 3DS' home menu. In March of 2023, the game will shut down permanently due to the closure of the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

I mean, they could just give us a "last hurrah" sale, 50%-75% off everything would be amazing
Yea here's hoping, I doubt Nintendo will on any of their main properties but there are tons of Sega, Capcom, Atlus, Kemco, and other great developer sales pretty frequently, so that's something at least. But you never know!
Nintendo is notorious for never having sales
Well they do sales on 3ds eshop games a lot already but not the main 1st party titles. Mostly indie games or rpg’s. But yeah hopefully they do a sale on first party games although I doubt it😭
That would require someone at Nintendo to love money more than spite
@@secondhandgameplay note that this is only in the US. I would love some Capcom and Atlus sales in Europe
Pokemon Sun and Moon Demo being called "nothing special" when it lets you bring Ash Greninja to the full game. The only way to get a legit Ash Greninja.
Lmao and then it gets lost on the next gen unless you buy (and subscribe) to the latest pokémon bank
@@DsiakMondala lol you have like 5+ years to enjoy Pokémon Home on the switch to transfer Pokémon so I don't know what you mean by the latest bank.
@@MemeSource. fk pokemon home. also you cant even use all pokemon from the 3ds games on your switch games which essentially lets them rust in boxes in pokemon home. perfect solution, not being able to use your well trained, since gen 3 existing pokemon. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@Kebein. - Then again, how many of your Pokémon do you *actually* use from game to game?
I have every Pokémon from Bulbasaur to Zeraora on my PC and hate the fact that I can't transfer all of them to SnS, hence why I didn't buy it.
That being said... that's some petty nerd shit, because I only used around 6 Pokémon in my whole playthrough of Sun and Ultra Sun, the rest are doing nothing but sitting there... so they might as well sit on Pokémon Home.
I'm still not getting gen 8, but gen 9 looks promising, so I might buy that.
does it work with the ultra versions ?
Huge thanks for this. Must have taken a ton of work. It’s exactly what I was looking for; there are many videos suggesting the same big hitters. But I wanted to know about the little stuff I was probably missing.
Thank you so much for the compliment, that's exactly the kind of thing I was trying to get at!
Yup, same here. I have almost all of the big hitters, but have been looking for smaller ones. If you have a list of best uses of the 3D effect games, retail or eshop, I'd be interested to see if I'm missing anything with that since I adore the 3D feature. I always wished for an HD3DS, but that day seems like it'll sadly never come
👍🏻
I did something similar to this a year in advance
If you are a fan of RPG's and are familiar with Atlus's works, i suggest Etrian Oddisey 5: beyond the myth.

@@secondhandgameplay Congrats, thanks for this video!
My biggest concern isn’t necessarily the inability to download things from the eshop, but rather services like Pokémon Bank and Pokétransfer, which require an internet connection to use so that you can transfer Pokémon between gens 5 and 6-7, and then 6-7 to 8 and beyond. If the online for the 3DS goes down altogether, there will be a sudden inability to transfer over pokemon between some gens for the first time in decades
Yes, and while that isn't being threatened in the near future it will happen someday which is concerning, so be sure to transfer up any Pokemon you care about now so you can keep them in the newest titles (if you care about that sort of thing)
I believe that Nintendo said something about possibly cutting off Pokebank connection to Pokemon Home eventually. But do not worry about it possibly right now, it will not happen anytime possibly soon.
@@joshernsteen2066 Yeah because how else would you get Pokemon from Unova to Alola when these games don't have any reboots yet.
you could potentially use outside software to create exact replicas of em and put them on bank using whatever is still available
My biggest concern is downloading Poké Transfer. I would first need a Bank subscription if I want to download Transfer because it doesn't show up on the eShop, but I don't want to pay for Bank subscriptions on my other 3DS consoles if it's just going to be free soon, anyway. Since Transfer is a free download, will I be able to get it after the eShop closure?
FINALLY a 3DS games recommendation video that doesn't talk about the same big games we hear over and over!!! Thank u!!!!!!!
I'm glad there's still people that recommend fantasy life with dlc. Having the dlc essentially unlocks post game/second story with a heck ton of new content.
I LOVE Fantasy Life! I wish they would make a new Switch version or even port it to the switch.
@@babynightsong I'm right up there with you, if anything at least include the dlc as part of the main game if it gets put on switch. The only problems I see are Level-5 hasn't released a game to western countries in quite some time and the most recent being what we call fantasy life mobile and in 2020 the American branch of the company was shut down due to low sales.
Yessss Fantasy Life was the best, especially the dlc
I have the fantasy life dlc but I never did much past the main game, I did the dlc story but I only ever got legend in every life, how worth it would it be to go back and get creator in every life and whatever else you can do in the dlc?
@@mightbeanerd theres a whole expansion past legend but its very much high level in the respective skills. as for what the skills pertain to its usually do stuff in the dlc area and a bonus challenge tower at certain character levels. at the end of the 3rd challenge you get something special and along the way you get materials for post maxing out the dlc life levels.
I am devastated the 3DS is no longer fully supported and within the year will completely be unsupported. I loved this console and had all iterations and more than one of a few of them. I used to take my 3DS everywhere. If it was still supported with new games I probably still would. So much more portable than the switch. Many of the games still look and feel great to play. I wish they had just kept it going. With so many consoles out there, if they had just released 1 or 2 good games a year they would have sold extremely well!!
'If it was still supported with new games' When it was getting new games near the end, everyone was begging them to stop because the 3ds was still practically dead. It's more like it has been dead for a while, Nintendo just kept trying to keep it alive. But yeah, there are a ton of great games taht should survive. What if they made it so you could buy 3ds games on switch (but only in desktop or docked, no joycons connected) and you'd have the switch on the side, vertically. To compensate for the dual screen obviously. It's unlikely, and it would have to be optimised. But still
Why would people beg them to stop?
@@riskyworks Why did people tell them to stop?
Were they Switch fans?
I already downloaded all the streetpass games when they released. I really miss those games. It doesn't feel the same when using the play coins to play. I met a man, and his son at a laundromat, one day. They turned out to be a couple of the local SP'ers with crazy high scores. It made me carry the 3DS to work hoping I could get more.
Yea I usually try to take mine with me just in case, always hoping for a pass, haven't had a real one in over a year at least lol
@@secondhandgameplay same here, i often take it when i go to the mall. But i havent met anyone in maybe 2 years now.
@@D3sdinova I have gotten a green light months ago, but it was only for Pokemon Alpha Sapphire.

I once met a guy named "Toffel" through StreetPass, and he had the highest scores you could get everywhere. In the Military StreetPass Game, he had an army of 9,999,999 Troops, had every gem in Mii Force and was either a god or a cheater, maybe both.
@@nintendogamer1926 Yeah, that army game was great until hacker's needed everlasting attention. I laughed when I started seeing armies over 9,999,999.
You might've mentioned it in your video but to anyone living in the U.S, absolutely pick up Rhythm Heaven Megamix. One of if not the very best eshop exclusives (outside of japan) that you'd be a fool not to pick up. Praying it gets to live on on the switch or we just get a new entry at all.
I did mention it in passing (possibly to the chagrin of some other viewers), but sure, I think it's a fine game worth getting!
rhythm heaven is my favorite nintendo franchise, everyone should definitely pick it up before the eshop closes or mod their ds and get it that way
I heard the physical isn't available in the US so if you wan't it the only option is to get it from the eshop
You don't actually need the AR cards to play the games. You can just print out the images or have them up on your phone screen and it works exactly the same way!
I had the intention buying up a bunch of WiiU/3DS games before the closure (and I have), but after seeing all the lists, including this one, I'd have to spend an entire paycheck or two to get some games lost to the ether.
I know it's unrealistic for me to expect to get everything, but there are either unique experiences or parts of series that will be gone practically forever.
Beloved titles. Lack of Discounts. Literal scarcity. All this, and Nintendo wonders why they struggle against piracy.
Well, keeping that stuff up isn't free. You gotta cut your losses at some point. Also we all know how close Nintendo was to dying a couple years ago.

19:39 Also important to note, the Gen 1 & 2 Pokemon cartridges depended on in-cartridge batteries to keep the saves. When these batteries die, your saves go with it. Many Gen 1 & 2 cartridges have died and require battery replacements to even play. But, even if you pay to replace the battery, there's always an inevitability that those saves will be lost. The Virtual Console versions on the 3DS eshop are the cheapest and most safe way to play these games, as well as the added functionality of moving Pokemon all the way forward into the most recent generations.
Every Pokemon fan should buy these games on the 3DS shop before they are no longer available. We were lucky to get these on Virtual Console at all, as Gamefreak has shown they would rather remake a game than re-release an old one. So, there's no guarantee they will ever come back in any other form.
Heck, now they're even pushing off remake work onto other companies. Gone are the days we get incredible, reimagined remakes like ORAS that add new content and infuse new game gimmicks.
Side note: the Gen 3 games also suffer from this. But we've never received a re-release of Gen 3 games.
The Gen 3 games dont lose their saves when the battery is drained, just the clock function
One quick recommendation that wasn’t mentioned in the video: Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure. It’s a Sega published rhythm game with a story, semi-explorable overworld, and a great variety in the rhythm games. It did get a physical release, though it didn’t sell very well and is pretty pricey nowadays. Without a doubt my favorite rhythm game.
I have downloaded the demo of that game, may try out...🤔
Bunping because this game is so good
Man, I *love* the 3DS. I completely understand why the eShop is closing, but it’s sad that video games are treated this way. They’re much harder to preserve than other types of media, but it seems like whenever the hardware is no longer being supported, companies leave it to fans to keep the games alive
The Etrian Odyssey series may have physical copies, but their eshop sales are insane and totally worth getting. I think the last one was $10 per game? Considering how expansive and deep the gameplay is it's a shame to skip these games
I picked them up for 5 i think around christmas, very unique games and a perfect fit for the 3DS with the cartography.

the gameplay between mapping and battling is so much fun when exploring labyrinths

You mentioned a few level-5 games, but a lot of physical Level-5 games are very expensive. Every Yokai Watch after the base versions of 2, as well as every Layton game on the system happens to be pretty expensive now. Yokai watch 3 is legitimately one of the best games on the 3ds so it's worth picking up before it's too late.
It will never be too late to pick up physical games.
@@nintendogamer1926 i meant to pick it up digitally, because the physical copies are way too expensive
@@paulitics6931 the digital copies are almost always as expensive as the physical ones, sometimes they are even more expensive. Also, you could buy a used physical copy, but not a used digital one.
@@nintendogamer1926 in most cases you're right about that, but the digital versions of most 3ds games are 40$, while the physical versions of yokai watch 3, yokai watch blasters, and professor layton and the azran legacy are all more than 100$. (At least in north america)

It’s saddening that so many amazing games will die with the 3DS/2DS/Wii U Eshops……
Finally someone who appreciates that “Nintendo polish” that many 3ds games have
I'm personally a big fan of all the "Art Style" Games on DSI ware. There are 7 total and most are made by the chibi-robo devs If you're looking for the best ones I personally like Box Life and Base10 although Personally I like them all. If you're looking for some unique puzzle games I highly recommend them!
Hehehe chibi-robo (FYI Randomly stumbled upon your comment, I don't know the odds)
PictoBit/PictoPict/PicoPict is a good one too. (Don't get why almost no regions agreed on the name)
I did have a lot of fun with Box Life.
Definitely fun to try to unlock everything on those games.
I remember browsing the e-shop when I was younger and looking at trailers for games I know I couldn't buy, and didn't even know how to buy on the E-shop. Guess now I can afford them, and it seems easy enough to buy them. This was really nostalgic for me, and it makes me want to relive those memories, but this time fulfill my hope to play these things.

What? The digital games should last as long as your 3DS is alive.
@@I_was_a_Bullfrog You right.

Some hours ago they stopped accepting credit cards. In case anybody doesn't know. There's a way around by combining your Switch balance with the 3ds one. Hope this helps as much as this video helped me. I was literally holding my 2 3ds while I was watching it.
And they also stopped accepting e - shop vouchers, for the 3ds store. And I don't have a switch account.
@@unknownninja1I have gotten 3ds games through the Nintendo website; all that is needed is a Nintendo account that is connected to the 3ds. The games will download when the system is in sleep mode while connected to the internet.
Good thing i bought the Fire Emblem DLCs for fates, Awakening, and echoes!! Those were the ones i was mainly concerned about. Oh and some titles for Super Nintendo that are too stupidly expensive to own as a physical copy.
The best thing I found on 3DS is the DSiWare.
I never got to experience the stores on the original DSi since Nintendo WiFi shut down but thankfully, most of its titles have been saved for the 3DS eShop. Found stuff like Mighty Milky Way, Dragon Quest Wars, and so much more.
I'm glad you mentioned Flipnote! Been looking to get it for a while and I had some nintendo points I hadn't used yet
It should be noted that Senran Kagura Burst is eshop exclusive in the US. In addition, Senran Kagura 2 has some extra chapters, a shmup mode, and some new customization options in its 3 other DLC packs. I’d highly recommend both titles. Even if you hate fan service, the gameplay is incredibly fun, the character interactions are top notch, and the customization is incredibly robust. At least, that’s what I think.
Oh my gosh this list is incredible. Most of the 3DS e-store death videos I could find were like "check out this super obscure game that no one's ever heard of called Super Mario Bros."
I'm gonna pick up a bunch from this list tomorrow.
Aura Aura climber is SO good, and I'm shocked people haven't talked about it much. Love this list, made me realize how much fantastic stuff the 3ds got ahold of via having dsiware available as well.

I saw the Bravely Second demo in here and heard the first game near the end, but I wanna especially recommend both Bravely Default and its sequel, Bravely Second
Both are 3DS exclusive and are incredibly charming RPGs by Square with a really fun and satisfying battle system that you can break apart if you're clever enough, and the story and characters for both are stellar
I love those games. And I will recommend to fans of the Bravely series, you should download and keep the demo of Bravely Second, even after getting the full game. It's a prequel chapter of the story that doesn't exist in the full game, and it makes you treasure relationships between certain characters more.

This is a top tier 3ds video, it's a shame that the console is dying so soon. I started collecting for the New Nintendo 3ds XL around last year and although I've gotten 90% of the games and dlc I wanted my 32 gig card can't hold more and I still don't have literally every game I seek. Although, I did finally get the series I wanted the most, all Etrain odyssey games.
I honestly thought the eShop for both 3DS and WII U was already discontinued years ago. I’m surprised. I remember going crazy when the servers went down on the Wii, this time around on both 3DS and Wii U I’m not too worried.
Important! Super Monkey Ball 3D is basically digital only. Its only like $10-25 used physically, but afaik, you cannot delete save data, so unless you want to hunt a new copy or are fine with having some one else’s save data.
Remarkably thorough video great job. Also i appreciate finding other people who like 3ds download play as much as i do.
River city ransom/street gangs is a must dude! It did download play best of any game.
So you also have some suggestions?
As I started to add these all to my wish list I began to realize just how much of a financial investment it all adds up to be.
Now that the shutdown day is upon us, I just wanted to thank you for this video as this was my go-to checklist for exclusives leaving with the store. Sadly my financial situation didn't improve enough to get all of exclusive things on here, but I'm glad things are at least not forever erased.
In the interest of your collection since you've gathered many of these titles for yourself, I have to ask if your willing to play or showcase a few of the exclusive things on your channel? I have looked online into a ton of the games you listed, and there were a few, especially DSI, related titles that have very little to no internet documentation.
Thus, do you have interest in playing a few of the more obscure games on here so people can see why they were recommended? Honestly a follow up to this video that goes into why certain titles were as highly praised as they were would be really neat to see, and probably really interesting for people coming back to remember videos like this beyond March 27th.
yea that's not a bad idea, when I'm next looking for random junk to play I'll look over my 3DS and WiiU stuff. The only difficulty is that I don't have a 3DS capture card so it's hard to capture and edit the footage and it won't look great even in the best case scenarios, but that won't fully exclude them when I look for stuff to play on my channel
That sounds awesome! I'd happily subscribe to keep an eye out for that as I'd love to see what made these games so special here. However it's too bad 3DS capture is so hard to come by now outside of homebrew, but I'm hoping the rekindled interest in 3DS due to the closure opens up more avenues there.
Thanks for getting back to me so quick, I really appreciate all you did here to help inform me and others! It's a dang shame the only options for buying some media is going away, so I hope digital and media preservation is taken more seriously in the future, especially since the official reasons given were quite ostensible.
For anyone panic purchasing anything, I'd recommend stopping if you are going to be purchasing games digitally. A modded 3ds games function identically for free and it's pretty easy.
If I would personally make an honorable mention of a freebie you'll want to pick up before the Eshop closure, it would certainly be the Codename S.T.E.A.M demo.
Codename S.T.E.A.M. was a game created by the Advance Wars developers and is one of Nintendo's most criminally underated games they have published. I would personally say that it's one of the best tactics games I have ever finished. Like Advance Wars, it has both a great single player campaign, and fun multiplayer battles modes with surprisingly robust online support for any Nintendo game I've seen. I've seen this game at local game retailers for less than $5, and it's an absolutely incredible steal at that price.
The reason why the demo is quite important is because transferring your medals which you've earned in the demo to your save file will unlock you a very unique sub weapon, which is unobtainable in the game. Despite at first glance being a joke weapon, this demo exclusive sub weapon in particular has tricks which are crucial for speed running certain missions in the quickest amount of time, and opens a lot of possible techniques you can pull off in multiplayer battles. If you are playing competitively, you'll want every edge you can get.
Though I don't think the free demo delivers the proper Codename S.T.E.A.M. experience with justice by limiting your team customization options so significantly, (which is easily one of the games greatest strengths) it's no doubt worth at least checking out for the opportunity to obtain that demo exclusive weapon which is used for so many tricks. - Noah
thank you so much! I bought the game for the price of a coffee the other day and didn't know this!
Wait really!?
I've played played the demo ages ago and I now have the game, what's the name of the weapon and do you just get it automatilly?
By the way I a agree that it is a criminally underated game but I am sure that one day the world will know about Codename S.T.E.A.M.
@@Nintendude. The unlockable demo exclusive weapon is the Phoenix Rifle. To get unlock it, you will need to clear at least the first mission in the demo, and then transfer over your medals to your save file in the main game. The weapon will be transfered with the medals you've earned.
Probably intended as a joke weapon that was simply fun to play with, the rifle shoots half a dozen eggs which deal negligible damage for the cost of only one steam.
The catch: it launches it's target several tiles ahead, which notably, is a great way to cover quick distances when used on other teammates in straightaways. It's also a great "get off me" weapon when put into overwatch for melee attacks, though, it will bump up the action cost to three steam.
That's just the main gist of what the weapon can be capable of, so it's definitely worth checking to make sure you have it. - Noah
@@noahplayssomegames Thanks Dude, got the new weapon thank you so so much.
I would probably be kicking myself if I've discovered I missed this thing in the future.
Thanks, Ill look into this game.
Another great tactics games is Stella glow, but it did get a physical release.
I really hope someone who helped make one of these smaller games sees this video. It’s nice to shine a light and give credit to games people otherwise consider shovelware and worthless. They’re fun to someone out there and that’s really cool
I actually did get comments from some developers, very happy to bring attention to some lesser played games!
Wow, this is what i needed before 2023 march comes! 😅
Glad you found it useful!
@@secondhandgameplay Yes, i did buy at least some games for my New Blue Nintendo 2DS, for childhood porpuses before they're gone. 😅
Here's the list for all games i've brought out on the E-shop, and what i still have currently:
- Cut The Rope. (3DS)
- Jett Rocket II: The Wrath of Takai.
- Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move.
- All 3 games from the Pushmo series. (Pullblox, Fallblox and Fullblox)
- One of the 3DS exclusive download videos, about the 3D Machine mini cartoon series.
- Mario Vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!
- Fat Dragons
And, that's all! 😊
I'm gonna miss all of the 3DS e-shop games...😔
The ace attorney games 4-6 don’t get nearly as much love as 1-3. Aside from AJ, which is a collector item now and is pretty rare, 5-6 didn’t get a physical USA release, so they’ll only be on mobile after the eshop goes. It really sucks.
Worth noting especially with the Photos with Mario app, your 3DS will still consider a printed copy of an AR card as a legitiment one, it cannot tell the difference between a real AR card and one you printed off of the internet. I remember messing around with giant AR cards by printing them onto a full letter-sized paper and posing my mii around my room, good times.
13:05 if you dont have any cards, use a mobile device instead. Just find scans of the cards online, and it should work fine.
so funny to see people wasting hundreds on eshop games when you can get all of them for free if you homebrew
Good memories of Stretchmo/Pushmo and Steeldiver, I don't think I would ever want to replay them again though. That arcade game that let's you unlock stuff for your home screen was awful, but a very original idea.
Yea the badge arcade seems a little unfair at times, which is why I don't recommend anyone putting any money into it
@@secondhandgameplay I did actually played that game, and i've managed to get more than 1000 badges on my HOME menu, without using any microtransitions...
as someone who loves the 3DS and someone who is into lost media, thinking about the whole scope of this issue is pretty depressing. not only are we losing a way to buy games since it'd be pretty hard to find physical copies of anything lying around, but there's so much exclusive stuff that may very well become lost media and the only way people will recover it is if there happens to be a rom online (which is pretty likely considering the emulation community's knack for preservation and finding stuff) or someone has the game downloaded and chooses to archive it. it's stuff like this that also makes me think "well yeah, it's no wonder people are more inclined to make roms and pirate these games, all things considered". and, either fortunately or unfortunately depending on your views, people will most likely just have to pirate a lot of these games. the whole situation just really sucks, especially with now Nintendo treats their old games.
What I heard was *"On May 2023 you can hack digital 3DS games without moral remorse"*
Bravo, this is a really comprehensive list! You covered a lot of games that I thought were rarely mentioned, as well as some really small titles I hadn't heard of that look very interesting! For example, a random pick you brought up that isn't usually covered, Zenonia, a very solid DSi RPG. Go Go Kokopolo 3D is a wonderful one often on sale still that wasn't mentioned. It's too bad the DSi original was delisted.
I also appreciate how much you appreciate 3D and single system multiplayer, like I do. :P
I'm pirating this shit. I'm not bothering with paying for a bunch of obscure unknown games
If only i knew how to emulate Citra myself...🙏
For anyone that likes Atlus games I strongly recommend Stella Glow. It's another Strategy JRPG and it's extremely underrated! And for all of you BlazBlue fans Contiuum Shift II is on the 3DS for some reason but it's fun! Also if you haven't looked at 7th Dragon Code VFD please get it before it's gone! It's an extremely fun (albeit difficult) JRPG that SEGA published! It might never get a release so please do check it out before it's gone! It even has a demo if you're not so sure about it! (Stella Glow has one too!)
I just hope they keep the image share for long after the eShop is defunct. It's neat to post screenshots to Twitter directly
Got my new 3ds xl with homebrew and dual IPS im good
very interesting video where you shown some underrated games on this console. I will definitely pick up some of them!
Gangstar 2? I played that on my Nokia cell phone. Kinda unbelievable how it counts as a 3ds game even though I couldn't emulate pokemon crystal on that phone
5:20 A few weeks back I started downloading every 3DS demo and when I 1st heard the "BRAVELY SECOND!" sound I simultaneously smiled and facepalmed
As a fan of the Parascientific escape series myself I've never seen a single youtuber cover em, if you wanted to do it to spread awareness nefore they disappear that'd be great for the small fandom it is.
There’s a big chance that Im getting a 3DS in a couple days so this video was very helpful, thanks! 😄
Probably the best eshop checklist. You even included themes😍👌
rhythm thief and the emperor's treasure, YOU NEED TO GET RHYTHM THIEF AND THE EMPEROR'S TREASURE, Loose It's $141.95 AND CIB IT'S 274.90, JUST BY IT PLEASE!!!
Fantasy life and ever oasis. Thank me later after 100s of hours of game play lol
Hey didn’t hear this mentioned but a game I’d recommend would be box boy. It’s a simple 2D puzzle platformer a good time for sure.
This is a super comprehensive video, thank you so much for this! Very glad I learned about Gurumin recently, what a cute game. Great soundtrack too. For anyone else checking the comments, I would definitely recommend A Kappa's Trail. It was made by Brownie Brown who worked on Mother 3 and it actually features a lot of Mother 3 characters and assets, the only time we got most of them in any official English media, and it's just a neat little game.
Glad you liked the video!
I bought Demon King Box very nearly after it was released and I have to say I was very disappointed with its extremely poor translation; something that I felt reached past the script and into the gameplay. Also worth noting, it's not really an RPG, more like a tower defense game, maybe some light rpg elements. It can be fun, and the art is good! I never played too far into it.
Yea it's certainly not perfect but I still kinda enjoy it, I felt it deserved a mention among the many others I will miss once the shop is gone
I have a New 3DS XL and I wasn’t aware of this thank god you posted this!!
Glad you enjoyed!
Wish I’d seen this yesterday 😢
I was planning on buying the 3ds version of Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed Kingdom.
Thanks so much for this video. I can't get ahold of any micro SD cards larger than 32 currently. May have to use multiples and just keep them in a case with games lists.
Edit: I absolutely ADORE Stretchmo. So much that I have the full version on my DSi and will likely buy it again for my 3DS now that you reminded me of it. Its such a clever game and such a joy to play. I'm really frustrated it never got a port to switch or WiiU (that I know of).
As a heads-up: Dillon's Rolling Western does not have left-handed support. The sequel does tho.
With the updated mynintendo site everything 3DS related has been removed.
Also the dark witch games, and go go kokopolo are currently on sale in both europe and the US if anyone wants to get those, only till the 4th of januari.
Nintendo products (pokemon) never go on sale. If you didn't buy them earlier it makes no sense to do that now. After the shop closes your interest in the machine WILL wane.
Interest on secondary market for cartridges will wane as well.
People will continue to play 3ds games but less and less, and more and more machines will get modded and your best bet is to buy a hdd to store those roms on..
Eventually you'll all buy a switch, and much like me will hate the stupification on the games for that platform.
✨W video man. Didn't know about these games now, ain't going to worry about it now, you know?😌 Appreciate all the recommendations.✨ Didn't realize how many were available. Good luck everyone and check them out. Modding is a option too if you want. Thank you. 😊♥ Saw this just in time.
or maybe just pirate the games
If it’s abandonware it’s moral to pirate
Yeah... But the legacy way is the best way to play all those games, without broughting up an emulator...
@@IvanFranco120 you can pirate a game and play it on the 3DS itself. You just need to hack and add custom firmware on your 3DS.
@@PokeTube Yeah, but's very unlikely to keep pirated fovever without breaking up...
@@IvanFranco120 what?
Yea really wtf does that mean, “breaking up”? 🤔
Even if you don't care for the game, you HAVE to get Pokemon Picross.
This is modding a 3DS starts with one step: Using a special save on Pokemon Picross.
So if you don't want to mod your 3DS,
download it anyways.
You don't lose anything, and in doing so you'll have the option to change your mind later down the line.
Echoing other comments that, while I appreciate the videos pointing out "must-haves" on the eShop, I'm glad I found this video suggesting some of the more obscure stuff too. Thanks!
So awesome to see somebody else mention the Etrian Odyssey games and 7th Dragon III Code: VFD. I've loved Etrian Odyssey since I got the demo for EO4 back then and I recently moved 7th Dragon over to a functional SD card and I'm having a blast with how the classes play.
Great video! HIGHLY recommend Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Also can you please link to the SD you used for your 3DS
Don't care, if Nintendo won't sell it to us anymore, all eShop content is available on the internet for free.
I wasn't paying attention and heard "Dedede's Drunk Dash Deluxe"
I have some games you really should buy. Especially some because you aint getting them physical, because they're rare
Yo-kai Watch (great games, third game is a HUGE game on the 3ds, filling like 3.5gb, probably more. Released in february 2019 in the west. contains all the content from the different versions the japanese version had. It's basically YKW3 Sukiyaki)
Mario & Luigi. 4 out of 5 games available (two as remakes). Partners in Time didn't get a remake. Not too hard to get physical to my knowledge, but Alpha Dream did go bankrupt, so you should probably buy them while you can
Metroid: Samus Returns. Havn't personally played it, but I hear it's good. It's a remake of Metroid 2. Pretty sure it introduced melee counters and free aim, both things are in Dread
And so much more. Just go onto the eshop, you're sure to find something you're interested in
I wish I'd managed to find your video earlier, it's very comprehensive! I got most of what interested me, but I've missed my chance to get those Parascientific Escape games that you mentioned, they looked cool
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity is fairly fun and also has some dlc so it'd be good to gtab while you can
Homebrew laughing in the corner
The Ash Greninja is exclusive to the sun & moon demo to unlock for your sun & moon games. I got mine back when the demo first launched.
In other words, you can pirate 3ds games guilt free in a little while
Yeah, but its not guarante to last fovever...
I seriously can't thank you enough for this video, I've come back to it multiple times now and it's such a useful reference, I just bought a new 3DS recently to replace my broken 2DS and it's amazing to look back on all the games I never got a chance to play, and lists like these really help out, thank you so much!
I *finally* found an eShop closure video that mentions “Clash of Elementalists”.
Haha, so this is Nintendo officially telling everyone to put custom firmware on and just play the hell out of any and everything.
I guess some people will have to mod there 3ds's to actually get certain games soon.

i dont understand why nintendo insists on discontenueing things so soon the wii had that stuff discontinued so much later and the 3rd im sure is still outselffing the cost of the shop on the shop
So soon? Did you forget about how people kept begging for them to just let the 3ds die. Nintendo basically kept trying to keep the 3ds alive. Great games released in 2019, but not that many people bought them.
@@riskyworks no i domt remember that at all infact i dont think that even happened that people begged nintendo to let it die.
@@MoldyMcdonut Nintendo kept releasing games despite them selling poorly simply due to the 3ds' age. People were tired of new 3ds games. Heck, Alpha Dream went bankrupt, likely because the remake of Bowser's Inside Story sold very poorly. Although I do wish they kept up the eshop, I get why they are shutting it down
