First time homeowner and this was perfect! The only thing I struggled with was when the irrigation people winterized they also manual opened all my zones so the first time I turned the water on every sprinkler started spraying automatically instead of pressurizing. Simple googleing got me squared away and I tightened them closed and it worked perfect. Aside from that, this was great and easy to follow for a learning lady such as myself! Thanks a ton!!!

Thank you so much for this comment! Same exact thing happened to me and after I tightened them all up, it was all fixed. Phew! Tons of money saved and now I can do it myself

That's because the video FAILED to mention the need to close the drain valves.

Thanks. This was a good refresher for me. I watch the installer turn on the system last year, but it was good to get a refresher. Your's was spot on. Thanks again.

Thanks for the de-winterizing sprinkler tips Adam! If the previous owners had seen the added drain trick it would have saved three replacement backflow preventer at $250 each. Hope to see you at the SoDa Row concert series!

Dude. I just spent 30 minutes trying to remember the name of the song at the end of your tutorial. Thought it was a Sousa march; nope. Thought it was something other than Sousa for July 4 music; nope. Then I remembered - It played with the opening credits of "The Bad News Bears." More googling. Finally: It's the opening theme from the Opera "Carmen."
    Well played, sir.
ps - Your video helped me a lot as I opened up our sprinkler system for the first time.

When you are introducing water into your sprinkler lines the water should be let in slowly as NOT to plow out a Sprinkler. DO NO open the valve all the way!!!

Thanks for this. A question... what about the bronze circle with the 6 screws? Are we supposed to leave those screws tight or loosen them?

I just moved to greenville sc, and am wondering how to winterize or simply shut down my Hunter x core underground lawn sprinkler . I have a BIB valve in the garage and also a water controller at the edge of the yard. I was thinking that all I need to do is cut of the BIB valve in the garage. OR do I need to also cut off the water supply at the yard? Also is there a need to run any of the zones in the yard ( I have 6 zones on .30 acre) Thank you for any details.

Shouldn't the (4) test ports and #1 and # 2 shutoff be turn halfway open/closed after the winterization?

Thanks for the video. Very good instruction just did it myself. I noticed a couple small drops of water on the backflow preventer when I turned it on. I checked it later and looks dry. I'll keep monitoring it but is this normal?

    • @jaydeee4840
      @jaydeee4840 5 років тому

This is 4 years late, but for anyone still wondering the answer is yes. The backflow preventer requires a certain pressure to properly seal, so when you first start it on (no pressure) a little water will come through. After the system is fully pressurized, it will fully seal. If water is coming out after you've fully pressurized then it may be bad and need to be replaced.

    Hunter Sprinkler System Acting up
Changed all valve diaphragms (new from HomeDepot) and solenoids (new from HomeDepot and all in closed position)
Tried switching wires from back and front lawn zones at controller and results as follows:
Front lawn zone works perfect, no leak at pressure vacuum breaker and starts quick
Back lawn zone starts late and pressure vacuum breaker leaks during spray (even after changing wires at controller)
After getting information as amateur, there is leak in back yard and i have changed two heads which originally did not come out and spray was minimal. Despite that back lawn still starts late and vacuum breaker still leaks during duration of spray. Maximum duration i manually set for 20 minutes for back lawn, still the same (starts late and vacuum breaker still leaks).
You being professional have knowledge and would you please help me in fixing back lawn zone.

I had a contractor winterize mine and here is what I thought was weird. I am trying to turn it on but here is where I'm at.
    The handles are still open.
The valve screws are not parallel with the pipe.
    The yellow handle is closed..
Do I just turn on the yellow water valve?

    • @AdamDIY
