I never understood why people pay to winterize or even de winterize their sprinkler system. It's easy and only takes a few minutes. Great video Erik! 👍
I’ll respectfully disagree with you regarding the simplicity of start up. Your back flow device requires annual testing by a certified inspector. Also, a good irrigation company will carefully inspect every aspect of the system to ensure proper irrigation. Let’s face it, on city water you’re paying for every drop. It should operate efficiently without any waste.
Not every locale requires the backflow to be certified and certainly not required where you use a dedicated deep well as we do in Virginia Beach. Even so, you can still have an irrigation company certify your backflow but dewinterize it yourself as this video demonstrates. Assessment by a professional is basically a quick look for leaks at each sprinkler head and adjustment of spray (which is very easy to do yourself). After watching a pro start my system one time, I have done it myself for the last 20 years
I watched a few other videos on how to start up my irrigation system when spring has arrived. None of them were as clear as your explanation. Thank you!
Great video, but I can't find the valves anywhere around my house. I went under the house by the water heater and couldn't find anything there either. Any ideas? Thanks.
@@ChaiBronz No. It's a lot more complicated than these guys suggest. I called a professional. (Still some "professionals" do a lousy job. Get one who guarantees his work.)
What is the white pipe sticking out of the ground that goes nowhere that is in between the water control and the backflow preventer. The reason I’m asking the On mine is loose when I turn the water on a little water came out of that. I’m highly assuming that I should screw that on tight. Is that correct.
Good tips! Wish I actually had an irrigation system 😝. Proper maintenance is key to a functioning system. I left my above ground setup out too late last year and I had one of my hunter pro sprays crack right down the middle, so I’ll be replacing that soon and adding a few more to the mix. Are you running boosted pressure or anything like that? Or is the system just straight off the house?
@@RVALawnLove nice. Yeah I used a hose end timer the last couple of seasons. I think my pressure is okay but i can’t run more than 3 or 4 sprinklers at a time without losing too much output. I know some people run pumps or pressure boosters or whatever if they have large zones. Was just curious!
Much appreciated. Guy charged me $100 last year to do this. This year he wanted to charge me $250. Never again.
These comments make me feel the best. Thanks!

Thanks bud
Took me 2 hours to replace a door knob. Couldn’t figure out the damn lock and too impatient to look it up. I would’ve gladly paid someone lol
@@TTVDementia402 I am almost wanting to pay someone to do it for me. After watching a few videos, I think I will be fine.
Well done, thanks again. Just tracked down your video from last year, and now subscribed!
You saved me a ton of of time and effort thank you!
Awesome video. Can you show a video on how to close out the system for winter as well
Thanks Eric!
Which port on the back flow valve would you connect an air compressor to for winterizing the system?

im looking for the other part of the video how to winterize it. link me please
Thank you!
Do you have a winterization video?
Do you have a winterizing video? I have same model rpz valve.
Do you have a winterizing video?
Look into the copperhead blades for the toro timemaster. Also, how high do you plan on cutting your yard this year?
I keep it under 3 inches until the heat kicks in, then it’s as high as it goes
Have you ever tried keeping it at 3in in the rva heat? I am going to experiment with my back grass this year in RVA at 2.5in.
@@desmorider747 I have not, but was considering doing the same as you this year.
Thank you so much.
So it's safe to turn your main water flow to your sprinklers on before touching the killswitches on the sprinkler heads?
Very easy to do. I can't wait to install a system at my place.
@A D It will be Rain Bird. Not exactly DIY. But still easy.
@A D I used to do it on the side a long time ago. We will see if I can still remember things!
Thank you!!!Out of all the videos, yours was the EASIEST!!!!!! ( plain & simple).
I need an irrigation system. However hand watering is so enjoyable.
Hand watering can be enjoyable

Yes, that needs to be tight. That is the water supply line to the system
Thanks!!!!

Can't locate the backflow valves. We are on irrigation water for our sprinklers. Would we have backflow installed?
Striperman first :)
Thanks for watching buddy!
I was wondering if you can make a video on attaching the back flow preventer after winter?
Next time I have to replace it, I will!
@@RVALawnLove thank you
I didn’t see a value in my green pocket just a bunch of wires in all 4 of them
Irrigation tech here, take this video down lmao jk
