Disconnect coil from stove, Open up the sensor cap that is in the center, make the 2 wires that is inside touch, the sensor will no longer make the stove cut off.. you're welcome
Shane just take it back if you're worried about voiding warrenty. This safety feature isn't safe or working as intended. If pot isn't on stove it shouldn't heat up, well my son managed to leave stove on all night and it was still going next morning yet I can no longer can my freaking pickles. It won't boil unless it's a tiny pot and yet it burns food on medium low and simmers/ low boils at lowest temp by itself when it decides to heat up more than the knob tells it too. If you have oil in skillet on low it almost catches fire if you don't watch constantly
Only in America do they sell appliances in 2022 that belong in 1962. Stoves that are basically an exposed heating coil, dishwashers with exposed elements that will melt plastic, washers and dryers that haven't evolved from the 60s. No wonder there's so many house fires in the US relative to population and the fact it's a "developed" country. I know there are advanced options there like basically any modern country but why do they still sell old inefficient dangerous crap, they seem too scared to phase it out. The bargain basement home appliances in Australia would probably be sold as midrange at worst in the US, because they know they can peddle ancient crap at the entry level price point there.
@@jjk2one All the appliance manufacturers are in on it, with utter joy, because they can now use the thinnest gauge metal in their builds, because the burners don't maintain high temperatures that would otherwise buckle the thin metal they use. The insurance companies are giddy, because they know you can't cook with this crap. They know you get hungry. They know you'll be tempted to bypass the sensors or switch out the coils. But if you do and you have a grease fire they won't cover the loss. Score! They collect your premiums and reduce and/or eliminate one of the risks.
@@jTempVids Useless safety features? Wow, caveman needs to go back to no regulation to protect the public. Take off your seat belts and motorcycle helmets and take the guards off your circular saws and grinders...that works for us in California, removing the stupid people from the gene pool.
@@elguapo5467 Stoves are inherently dangerous. There is a reason your not supposed to leave the stove unattended. It doesn't matter if the stove is gas, electric, or induction. All devices don't have to be "child proof" or 100% safe to use. If you had ever worked in in an industrial setting or the trades you'd understand this. Most power tools, machine tools, and heavy equipment can maim or kill you if you use them wrong. People understand this. These so called "Safety Burners" do not work. You can't even boil water on them. What good is the stove then? Don't use the stove if your that afraid. California has a long track record of trying to push their ideology, ideals, & safety standards on the whole country by force. Even when there is little to no evidence they make a difference.
These coils are the stupidest things I’ve ever encountered. How am I supposed to fry anything if the damn coil keeps turning off? I’ve literally been standing in my kitchen ruining chicken and fries for the past 2 hours
@@geappliances My mother uses a carbon steel wok and aluminum pots because she has arthritis and finds it difficult to lift heavy cookware. Now she can't cook on her stove that has this technology with the pots and pans she already has, and she can't afford new cookware. It literally will not even boil water without turning off, and it takes twice as long to make something like eggs that require low cooking temperature. A HORRIBLE design.

I agree. The instant my water boils I have to turn ot down otherwise it turns off. This is stupid. Designing a stove to reduce the risk of fires? If you don't know how to use a stove, don't cook in the damn kitchen. Simple. Stop trying to prevent stupid people from making mistakes. It's called natural selection.
Problem for me so far is that the tension is too tight. SO, if I use a light pan and make a grilled cheese or two fried eggs, there's not enough weight to get the pan to sit flat. I would think a tilted pan with grease in it might be a safety hazard in itself.
@Kal El I'm glad I'm not the only one who dislikes this. I live in an apartment and they installed this type of stove, I get so frustrated anytime I try to make jam, sauce, etc...
OMG!!! I have an electric stove that will not cook anything. Canning this summer was a complete disaster because the sensor kept cycling off which meant the water pressure in the canner would never build up enough to can!! Whoever from UL invented this has obviously never cooked on an electric stove, or used a canner. GE needs to honor all their customers with a complete recall and replacement on these sensi-temp coils, and UL needs to recind their requirement for this ridiculous safety coil.
This is a huge food safety issue. I haven't yet canned on this stove but have been planning on doing so soon. Now I won't do it. I guess I'll get an outdoor gas burner and do my canning outdoors. I have a lake cabin that has gas; I guess I can go there to do any canning but having to drive 2 hours to get safe food processing because GE and UL have created a food safety nightmare seems just too much to ask.
I agree it's ruined canning for us, hopefully a class action lawsuit will force change, I don't care if I only get fifty cents out of it, just so others crops aren't ruined. We're going to have to do what others are and bypass it and disable sensi temp hoping it doesn't break that eye
@@forgetmeplease1414 I found replacement coils on Amazon and they work great. I did not want to try to disable the sensi temp, but I would have if these didn't work. I ordered GE WB30M2 Genuine OEM 8* Surface Element coil for GE Electric Ranges. I only replaced the two big burners since I use those the most for big pots and for canning.
@@Anne-pg8hq thank you. I know it's a year later, however, I've been fighting getting this stove to work for about that long. I bought a new burner but the flat clips would not fit. Going to try your recommendation and see what happens

@@geappliances The only troubleshooting tip you should give is to buy a different stove. Literally every single comment on here is about how these burners can't cook anything. If every single person has this issue, it is an issue with your design. At the very least you should put a warning on all your products that they are less effective than an easy bake oven.
I have all brand new pots and pans. Bottom is straight as an arrow. Water won’t boil continuously. Can’t keep grease and a temperature high enough to fry ANYTHING. It took me 45 minutes to make chicken fajitas and didn’t turn out the best because I couldn’t blacken any of it. I tried cooking bacon the other day and it pissed me off so bad I took the pan outside and cooked on the grill. I have cooked on many different stoves and this one is by far, no questions asked, is the worst stove I have ever cooked on. I love cooking but don’t want to anymore just thinking about this pathetic thing I call a stove. I have never in my life felt the need to leave a bad review but this threw me over the edge.
amelia seratiyes, the sensor was turned off and I have no more problems: I removed the stove coil from the stove and took it to a friend who works with soldering and he opened the sensor compartment and soldered the wires together, that is, deactivating the sensor! a good welder does that in less than 10 minutes, I hope you can solve it because I was about to buy another stove but now it's perfect and it's been 7 months! Gratitude!!!!
Took me like 2:30 minutes to fry 40 pieces of bacon. I can fry more pieces of bacon on the hood of my car when it's 90 degrees outside in less time. The dumbest stove ever.
I cook my bacon in the oven. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees, place bacon on vented broiler pan. It only takes 15 to 20 minutes to cook an entire pound of bacon with no fuss. :)
Utopian idea with extremely moronic and UNPRACTICAL implementation! Whoever tested this and approved for production needs to be fired! If you want to spend for cooking 2X-3X time longer than usual and NEVER get your food cooked properly - this is a technology for you. Otherwise, go buy regular elements and be happy.
I just got this stove a few weeks ago and I absolutely HATE it! It does not maintain the temp when cooking. I read the manual, looked at the videos at GE's website and even went out and brought brand new heavy cookware based on their recommendations. The stove still preforms the exact same. I had a heavy pot, filled it with water , turned the unit on high to boil the water....the boiling starts and stop again throughout the course of cooking based on the design of these coils. Pasta, fried meats and sautéed veggies turning out horrible based on this design.
The problem is with these new innovations is just too much headache. There is no enough heat as it cuts off very fast and takes longer for the coil to heat up again.
You know, we were shopping for an electric range (we have no access to gas) and once we found out about the dangers and heavy power consumption of "smooth top" ranges we looked at coil-top ranges only to discover they were all ruined by the 2018 rule made by the Underwriters Laboratories organization. UL, as they are commonly known, made it so the coils will not heat up because they were concerned about grease fires. UL was NOT concerned about blue flame gas stoves and the potential there for grease fires. SO upon learning how screwed up modern ranges are these days we just decided to KEEP our old stove. We bought a few extra parts to keep it going and we are happy to NEVER BUY ANOTHER STOVE since they are all crap now.
@David Garris Do you think, or do you know? You do know you can get induction range for around $800 if you took the time to look and learn instead of trying to be an internet Warrior.
@@HoIyGrail Well then, you can help me out, because I'm currently in the process of selling my house and buying another. And am currently looking at GE and Whirlpool appliances online. If you're familiar with a brand and style for under $1000 I'm certainly interested 🐾🐕🐕
I chose GE over two other brands because I trusted that it would be the brand to best fulfill the quality of a stove I want, but choosing GE ended up to be the biggest mistake that I regret. I'm very disappointed and I don't recommend anyone to purchase it. I spend about 3 hours trying to cook a very simple dish due to the lack of proper stove functions.
Model name is JBS27 and serial number is J BS27DIL2WW . The problem is that the heat adjusts itself however it finds fit by it's own. I can't fry food anymore because the heat never stays high it keeps turning off then back on by it's own so now instead of taking 15 mins or so to fry food it can take up to an hour . And this is just one of the examples of the struggles that I face while trying to use this stove. Even water takes super long to boil.
anyone know where I can find one of those easybake kids ovens from the 1960’s? I’m wanting to replace my brand new Amana electric stove thats so safe to use, it wont boil water. I figured the easybake oven with a 100 watt bulb would at least bake a cake
How does GE suggest cleaning the sensi-temp section to remove all the burned fat, etc. on it? I clean the burners by turning them up on high for a few minutes; this does wonders for keeping pan exteriors cleaner when cooking. But it doesn't clean the sensi-temp center; they're a mess.
I just got one of these yesterday and I'm already doing arrangements to return it . You can't cook anything without the stove turning off. GE Appliances you should definitely hear the customers and remove this feature because its useless.
First brand new stove ever, and its absolutely horrible to 'cook' on. We were told the heat inconsistency was likely due to older cookware. So went out and bought new. Problem NOT solved!! My husband is so disappointed and angry with this stove he is ready to take the loss and just dump it off at the scrap yard!!

Can these be swapped out for standard coils? btw turned all burners on same time to high to test. Minute in the largest were burning red the smaller still gray! Hello! Ensuring that your pots and pants have a flat surface on the entire bottom of the cookware provides the best performance as it makes solid contact with the coils. As shown at the 1:12 mark in the video, uneven cookware will impair performance based on the design of the sensi-temp coil. If you need any assistance with your range, please feel free to send us a private message via Facebook, Instagram, or X with the model number of your unit. We'd love to help however we can! -SH
"This button must contact the bottom of the cookware for the coil to work properly". This is the sort of wording I'm finding everywhere for this Seni-Temp tech. What I'm not finding ANYWHERE is, if I have no cookware on the coil/sensor, what is supposed to happen? My thinking is, if there is no pot on the burner, then the burner won't heat up at all. If I'm cooking, and remove the pot or pan, the burner should shut off. But I found out tonight that this is NOT what happens. At least, not with the one I have. I went back into the kitchen after about 20 minutes to find that the burner was still on and super hot and there was nothing on the burner. No pot. No pan. Just a whole lot of heat. Is that supposed to happen? Does anyone know where I can find a definitive answer?
Hi, Dave. Thanks for reaching out to us. You've asked a great question, and we are happy to help. Each burner with this technology has a silver medallion with a button (sensor) in the center of the coil. This button must make contact with the bottom of the cookware for the Sensi-Temp Technology to sense the temperature properly. When the sensor detects a pan temperature near the limit (450 degrees F), the burner will shut off automatically until a lower, safe pan temperature is reached. At that point, the burner will resume heating. This will not affect everyday cooking as the automatic shut-off is temporary and only happens at a very high temperature. Please note that stove top cooking is an attended function. The Sensi-Temp technology is NOT intended to automatically shut off the burner. When a Sensi-Temp burner has been turned on, it will continue to heat even after a pan has been removed, and until the knob have been set to the OFF position. If any other questions arise, please feel free to contact us. Thanks! JP
Hi! There is not. This sensor is there as a safety precaution to help prevent grease fires. If you'd like to read more about these burners, you can click here: spklr.io/6053mSZv If you have other questions, feel free to ask. -MS
I bought a new GE stove two weeks ago. It came with these "sensi temp" weird looking burners so thought I would do some research. WOW ! every comment negative. I was extremely worried about my new 1000 dollar purchase. However, once installed and under use I haven't experienced any of the issues "of two years ago" (based on the dates of most comments) - In the interim, has the "sensi temp" technology been retooled ? - There really isn't any uproar since then. in 2022, I can boil water continuously, sear a steak, fry bacon etc etc etc as a stove with "normal / pre-sensi temp" elements would.
@@podiumguy100why would we need to change the elements if it's only 2 months old. It's a joke. You either work for the manufacturing company or you have the exception. Because look at every comment. This design is garbage, nobody needs this.
I just installed a new GE range (model JB258DM1WW) with these Sensi-Temp coils today. I then put on a large pot of water to make pasta. Just as I saw tiny bubbles start to form in the pot (no way near a boil, mind you), the coil cycled off. Shortly after it must have restarted and a few minutes later my water was boiling. In went the salt and pasta. About half way through the cooking process, with the water at a proper full boil, the coil cycled off again. I watched as ALL of the bubbles subsided and my pasta was just sitting still in a bath of warm water. About 60 seconds later, the coil cycled back on and cooking resumed until the pasta was fully cooked. This performance in unacceptable. Before my 30-day return policy expires I'll be searching for a solution to "defeat" this Sensi-temp technology. With the overwhelming number of complaints out there I'm sure that someone has devised a solution...possibly a ceramic disk permanently affixed to the sensor will keep the sensor below it's turn-off point of 450°F
Thanks for reaching out to us, Vic. We certainly apologize for these issues with your new range and we want to assist further. Have you tested your pans? If not, we suggest you check them with a ruler or straight edge for a flat bottom. Also, heavy cookware will give you the best performance. I hope this helps! -SF
Oh GE! Give it a rest already with the "perhaps your pots are not flat on the bottom" BS! I have a cast iron skillet that will not warp anytime in the next 12 centuries! Now for a solution, since I rent, and cannot return my stove, I went to canadian tire and bought coils made for fridgidaire, maytag and whirlpool pre 1994 models, by a company called laser, the coils sit almost completely flat, totally flat when a pot of water is on top, and pasta boils in 10 minutes like it's supposed to. My food no longer sticks to the bottom, because I am able to maintaina consistent temperature, my meat is cooked through now too and my family is no longer at risk of food poisoning due to unsafe internal temperature of meats attempting to be thoroughly cooked with sensi temp burners. And bonus folks, I can fry french fries and chicken wings again! Hope this helps someone, because I was going nuts, and my family was starving!

Frustrating to get a new range and find that it’s utterly useless for anything requiring high cooking heat, such as frying or wok cooking. I’m old enough to remember when GE actually produced pretty good appliances, but nowadays I think they must have laid off all their engineers, and are having their products designed by their office cleaning staff!
I'm shopping for a new range and just found out about these burners from reading reviews that good people have posted on appliance manufacturer's web sites. Now I find out that new government regulations have made it so that new ranges won't boil water. This is the exact reason I'm shopping for a new range. For the past eleven years I've put up with what was a brand new glass top range that won't boil water for a pound of pasta. We have to boil water with a counter top induction burner. It's a bother storing it, and further in order to get it beneath the range hood we have to put it on the range top and then we can't use two of the range burners. It seems now if you want to boil water the choices are more expensive gas or induction cook top ranges. We use to have good things, and we made good things, the best burners were the Frigidaire thick coil models from the 1960's. Forget ever having the simplicity of cooking on those again. I make the effort to be "Green" in reasonable ways, but I've now learned that energy saving equipment and conservation efforts have reached a point of crazy. Since we're now down to a point that range burners are being limited of exactly what they're supposed to do, I say it's time to implement emergency measures of population control. If you think I'm nuts take a deeper look at what's going on. There aren't any other answers as the population keeps building up and surpassing every new green regulation. If we could just get the population down we wouldn't have to do much in the way of "Green" or put up with things that don't work right. Don't misunderstand me, I love babies, but we're in trouble and not many seem to be noticing. I'll add another example, currently we're paying about $3500 in the cost of a brand new car just for the emission controls. My point here is anyone that digs deeper into all we're doing to get the planet into a state of "Green" will come to the conclusion that it just gets wasted by out of control population. We need to be looking at that and not more annoying regulations making life more costly and harder than it has to be.
the sensitemp technology was to prevent oil grease fires by turning off & on not designed to use less electricity. nothing to do with 'green' or population growth. not sure what country you are in but some countries are even losing population due to couples not having enough to replace themselves; they are in serious trouble. we don't need to kill ourselves off to have a better stove. But I share your frustration, I'm also in the market for a new electric stove and am trying to find out if they sensi-temp burners can be replaced with regular ones. If so I may consider buying one. But GE reply says they can't. Not sure if this is true with other brands too. If so, that means I have to look on Craigslist for a "new" stove if I want one. (or else switch to flat top or gas, both of which I did not want)
Cast iron hot plate is what I purchased that's the only thing I can cook on now which is terrible. I also bought a breville stove it cost me a pretty penny but it can cook what this can't. Then I have ceramic Skillet and instant pot and a slow cooker so I basically don't even use my range top anymore
Hello - we're sorry to hear you are not using your range top anymore. This is certainly not the ownership experience for which we strive. If you are having difficulty with everyday cooking, please check that the bottom of your pans are flat. We recommend using a ruler or any flat edge to gauge the flatness of the bottom of the cookware. Also, using heavier weight cookware is beneficial. Thanks for reaching out to us! We hope this helps! -NC
I have something nice to say about sensi-temp: The name has a nice ring to it. 😏 Also, it must have taken a sensitive "temp"--(that is sensitive worker who cares about safety) to try and make a stovetop range safer. My main complaint is that... they don't work. I give them a 1 out of 10 rating. I have replaced my sensi-temp coils with standard because, as my wife was losing her cool in direct proportion to how cool the coils became.
I've Cooke for 35yrs and this is the worst stove I've ever used your absolutely right heat up cool off constantly can't can on it won't keep eye hot enough this was someone's bad idea
I moved to a 55+ apt bldg. My stove went out with a power outage had to wait a month to get one. Oven did not work but burners did. Then they brought one of these with the sensors. What a pic of crap.
Have had three quit working the last several months on a three year old GE stove in one of my rental units. Large family that cooks big meals several times a day. I bought GE manufactured elements, as replacements not those knock offs found on Amazon. They are expensive. They were right at $80 a piece at the locally owned appliance parts store. They are not found in the big box hardware stores. Nor will those older type elements fit either. Tried that. These Sensi-Temp have a thermo disc switch in the center of the element. It will open if the temp exceeds a defined temperature setpoint. When the burner element temp drops or is turned off. This disc switch will reset. After time it will not reset. I took a failed one to my workshop and got open the cover under the thermo disc enclosure and confirmed this switch was an open circuit and would not reset.
Hi - thanks for checking with us! The sensi-temp range coil elements would not affect your everyday cooking performance. It is important, however, that you use pans with a flat bottom. We hope this helps! -NC
Won’t start fires... also won’t sear a steak, pan fry a fish without it going soggy, stir fry anything, make crispy bacon etc. But You can boil water...so there’s that.
Thanks for reaching out! Flat-bottomed pans are recommended for Sensi-Temp burners so that the pan remains in contact with the middle of the burner. Let us know if you have any other questions. - JB
The traditional coil top stove is CHEAP and RELIABLE and has been on the market for OVER 100 YEARS. It's just my opinion but I think some outfit wanted the public to move to INDUCTION stoves so they effectively KILLED the coil-top stove by making them useless.
I have this stove since January 20, 2021 and I can't stand it anymore, it has been cooking for hours, I can't fry nothing because the temperature drops
Discovered today my elderly mother need a new stove, picked out a GE online, but was curious about this mentioned sensors. Hi Randy. Starting in 2018, UL regulation requires all coil top ranges to have temperature limiting capabilities to reduce the risk of cooktop oil and grease fires. As a result, our electric coil burners now use Sensi-Temp Technology. Thanks for checking! -MJ
So does the new rule by Underwriters Labs, limiting the power of the electric coils to combat grease fires, mean they will figure out a way to reduce the temperature of the flame on gas stoves...??? It makes as much sense. What about radiant smooth top stoves with their blazing hot glass surfaces which flesh will tick to in an instant? Maybe they have a great idea for that too...??? You know, BLAZING HOT GLASS looks just the same as COLD GLASS.
LOL don't give them ideas! :) I think this about GE trying to use the UL to kill coil stoves. The big appliance companies bought up most of the brands, and now all they sell is stuff that breaks after a few years. They probably believe they can keep people coming back with bells and whistles, and the reputation they're ruining. When there's no competition, companies cheat customers as much as possible. The last thing they want is a tough stovetop and easy to replace burners. So all these angry comments are exactly what they're looking for.
Please to advise how to stir fry with these abominable "burners." This is the worst stove I've ever used. HOW CAN I FRY ANYTHING? I have a wok full of raw vegetables because the damn thing keeps turning itself off. I HATE THEM.
This stove was just delivered and by the comments, I'm tempted to call them back to come get this!!!🤔😒 Weeks later... So far so good... I've been able to cook everything I've wanted without any issues! Hopefully it stays this way...
4 years in from this vid, I will add my two cents to the crowd of furious sensi-temp owners. I just bought a new home that has one. Had no idea it existed, had company over for lobster dinner on Labor Day weekend (I live in Maine), and you guessed it - the poor lobsters had a very hot sauna but after 40 minutes had not even turned completely red. Tragic! For the lobsters, especially. The burner kept going on and off. So I turned all the burners on and just kept sliding them to the next. I had to pick out all the lobsters the next day and saute them. We ate burgers. Buying new coils or a ceramic cooktop range.
Hello- We appreciate your feedback and will share this with our team. Starting in 2018, UL (Underwriter's Laboratory) regulations require all electric coil top ranges to have temperature limiting capabilities to reduce the risk of cooktop oil and grease fires. As a result, our electric coil burners now use Sensi-Temp Technology. Note: During the temporary automatic shut-off: The burner will cycle ON (bright red) and OFF (dark) to maintain safe cooking temperatures. When cycling OFF, the burner retains enough heat to continue cooking. The burner will cycle back ON automatically. This cycling will continue during the entire cooking time. If you have any questions, please let us know. We are happy to help! JW
@@geappliances but sadly they don’t maintain heat, thus live lobsters going in a pot with a hard boiling two inches of water for steam and sitting there suffering in still water until I played musical burners. In the end, some were cooked and some weren’t. You can keep calling a pig a thoroughbred, but it doesn’t change that fact that the majority of owners hate the technology, find it hugely faulty and meal-ruining, and disagree with it being forced on us.
Hi there! When the sensor detects a pan temperature near the limit (450 degree Fahrenheit), the burner will shut off automatically until a lower, safe pan temperature is reached. At that point, heat will resume to the burner. During the temporary automatic shut-off: 1. The burner will cycle ON (bright red) and OFF (dark) to maintain safe cooking temperatures. 2. When cycling OFF, the burner retains enough heat to continue cooking. The burner will cycle back ON automatically. 3. This cycling will continue during the entire cooking time. We hope this helps! -GD
@GE Appliances, thank you for responding. I knew that it should work this way. However, it caused the water to stop boiling long enough that it took a while to get to a rolling boil. I was trying to make french toast today. I guess the minor adjustment of my >$200 skillet was enough to shut it down. I would prefer regular, old school coils than the frustrating battle every time I cook.
We appreciate your insights! We apologize for any trouble you've had and hope you make an appointment with one of our certified technicians if the burners are not working properly. They can be reached at 1-800-432-2737. Let us know if you have any other questions. - JB
The button detects temperature but not pressure? I would think that a burner with no pot on it is more dangerous than a fried potato. If this was able to save me from turning on the wrong burner, I might like it, but as is, it just makes my potatoes take longer.
Just saw this play out with a neighbor: Neighbors deactivated safety feature. Neighbors have grease fire that damaged their kitchen. Insurance is refusing to pay because the safety device was deactivated...☹
My family moved in to our apartment and about 3 weeks ago and last week "TRIED" to fry chicken. This sensi temp tech sucks. My chicken started out frying great but then it went downhill. I thought I was doing something wrong. My chicken was not fried with a crispy crust it had a soft crust and just disappointing. My son called himself going to fry chicken about 2 days ago he was so disappointed with how his chicken turned out that he was literally heart broken. I guess we're gonna have to buy a deep fryer.

Whoever designed this piece of garbage stove has never cooked anything that wasn't beige and bland: there's no way in hell someone who has any idea about how to sear a steak, fry chicken or stir-fry would have thought this was okay. Because it's not okay, it's horrible. My poor mother is standing over this stove right now, trying to use TWO burners, alternating to try to get her pan hot enough to cook, and it's taking her twice as long at least. She's also having to turn the lights off every minute to see if the elements are still glowing red or not. GE should be ashamed of churning out such a bad product.
Hello, we're sorry your mother is having issues using her Sensi-Temp burners! We recommend that your mother leave her cookware on a single burner instead of trying to move her cookware from burner to burner. Sensi-Temp burners are designed to cycle off once a piece of cookware reached 450 degrees Fahrenheit and then cycle back on automatically once a safe temperature has been reached. While the burner is cycled off, the cookware will retain its temperature. -CV
Earlier this year I moved into an apartment with these sensi temp elements. Garbage. Having cooked with glass top, coil (old fashioned) and gas for much my adult life, one night got so frustrated with how long it was taking to boil an F(explicit)ing 2 quart sauce pan for some pasta, pulled out my double burner Coleman propane camp stove to finish cooking. Oh and to add insult to injury I pay $925/mo rent and the stove provided cannot even freaking cook. Be glad when the lease ends next February. Hoping to buy my first house assuming I am able to find one within my budget. Will have gas range.
Hello. We appreciate you reaching out, though we regret that you’ve had an issue with boiling water taking longer than expected. We know this must be frustrating, and regret any inconvenience caused. Notice of your experience will be sent to our team for review. As of 2018, UL regulations do require all electric coil top ranges to have temperature limiting capabilities, for safety reasons. Electric coil burners use Sensi-Temp technology as a result, which we wouldn’t expect to affect everyday cooking - the shut-off function is temporary and only happens at very high temperatures. If it might be helpful, we do have an article that discusses what to check if you’re concerned the burner isn’t working properly, linked here: spklr.io/6051cEgU . We hope that helps. If you continue to have issues, you’re more than welcome to send us a private message over our social media (such as Facebook or Twitter) with your model number - we can certainly look into this further. We’re also happy to help with any other concerns or questions you may have - all the best. -SG
I had to get this oven in my apartment complex I stay in to replace my old one and I do a lot of cooking I had to Google this cuz I wasn't familiar. even when I seen the coils I was like oh that looks neat but I did not know it was doing some weird temp adjustment I'm a old school cook and I like a old school oven this technology s*** is getting on my nerves. They lucky I didn't have to pay for this other cuz if I had my own home I would not buy no oven like this
Your instructions are bull because sensi-temp coils are useless. So people are hotwiring them, and replacing them with incompatible burners. Which makes stoves with sensi-temp even more dangerous then stoves without them. You're forcing people to mod their stoves and your fake explanation is just victim blaming.
Why did I google this even before I tried to cook anything on it? Idk. Probably because the name of the "technology" sounds like something out of the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy-- where all the technology is super modern and horrible and lets you down virtually all the time.
Hello. We appreciate you reaching out, though we regret that you have concerns over the Sensi-Temp technology. As of 2018, safety regulations do require all electric coil top ranges to include temperature limiting capabilities; this is to reduce the risk of cooktop oil and grease fires. This should not affect everyday cooking, as the shut-off is temporary and only occurs at a very high temperature. If it might be helpful, we have an article on our website with more details about this technology, available here: spklr.io/6056cU9w . We’re confident you’ll be able to cook without issues, but if you do have any concerns or questions we’re always glad to help, here or over our social media. Best wishes. -SG
Just got a new range. It heated up for about 3 minutes then turned off for 6 minutes. Was trying to stir fry some beef strips and they basically ended up ruined. Do NOT buy ranges with these coils. DO NOT! I warn you!
Disconnect coil from stove, Open up the sensor cap that is in the center, make the 2 wires that is inside touch, the sensor will no longer make the stove cut off.. you're welcome
GOD BLESS YOU MY FRIEND
Yes God bless you!!! Now I might able to boil water for longer than a minute at a time and maybe even actually sear a freaking steak.
I'll try thanks
This button is awful
so bypass a safety feature, and probably void the warranty?
Shane just take it back if you're worried about voiding warrenty. This safety feature isn't safe or working as intended. If pot isn't on stove it shouldn't heat up, well my son managed to leave stove on all night and it was still going next morning yet I can no longer can my freaking pickles. It won't boil unless it's a tiny pot and yet it burns food on medium low and simmers/ low boils at lowest temp by itself when it decides to heat up more than the knob tells it too. If you have oil in skillet on low it almost catches fire if you don't watch constantly
I'm impressed and depressed in equal measure that someone has managed to make coil ranges even less useful and more inconsistent than they already are
Only in America do they sell appliances in 2022 that belong in 1962.
I can't even boil eggs now
@@jjk2one All the appliance manufacturers are in on it, with utter joy, because they can now use the thinnest gauge metal in their builds, because the burners don't maintain high temperatures that would otherwise buckle the thin metal they use.

@@elguapo5467 Stoves are inherently dangerous. There is a reason your not supposed to leave the stove unattended. It doesn't matter if the stove is gas, electric, or induction. Wanted to do it but was a little skeptical, it will not cause any issues with electrical components

It's a piece of Shhhiiiiitttt. Every two minutes it's turning off.

I hate my also.
Same problem here and I bought this stove 4 months ago, I absolutely hate it
The problem is with these new innovations is just too much headache. There is no enough heat as it cuts off very fast and takes longer for the coil to heat up again.
Same problem and it's irritating.

I just moved into an apartment and there I started using this stove for the first time. It is seriously the dumbest thing. It takes a lot of time to cook something. Can you suggest how to turn this automatic Sensi-Temp off?
Hello Shalu. We are sorry to hear about your frustration with the Sensi-Temp burners. This is a safety feature required by the UL and cannot be turned off. We recommend contacting one of our Consumer Care Agents in the link below. They will be happy to help you with your new range.

Geez...I just received this stove today and I haven't even plugged it in and am regretting buying it. My previous gas stove was a nightmare to cook on because it was so slow....I thought I would avoid that problem with this stove...looks like I'm out of luck. 🤬
Blamed the problem to some uneven bottom cookwares that we had been using and had no complaint with old burners for decades.
-SH
Tip: thankfully you can save yourself from suffering and buy the normal coils/elements in your local hardware store.
We can't find any that fit!
I tried regular coils but they did fit
I thought the old coils won't work on these
Regular GE coils?
Thanks! JP
This range was on my final list with one other coil top range. Not anymore!
Is there a call back on this product if not there should be and should be fixed or money should be refunded.
Is there a way to turn off the sensor?
Hi!
There is not. This sensor is there as a safety precaution to help prevent grease fires. If you'd like to read more about these burners, you can click here: spklr.io/6053mSZv
If you have other questions, feel free to ask.
I just bought one a week ago and I can't cook anything with mine.
@@gregpettis1113 oh no . so glad i escaped all this . did you add the expense and replace the elements ?
@@julybutterfly - I'm returning my GE range and buying a used pre-2018 model. I'll deal with that for 2 years until my wife remodels the kitchen in 2022 when we'll purchase a gas range -- probably from Bertazzoni. Go to Home Depot or wherever stove elements are sold and buy ones that don't have limiters. The old
fashioned two wire type. Work just fine. The problem isn't the stove, it's the elements.
Do you have any option to remove this sensi-temp????

Hi there, thank you for reaching out to us.
Starting in 2018, UL (Underwriter's Laboratory) regulations require all electric coil top ranges to have temperature limiting capabilities to reduce the risk of cooktop oil and grease fires. As a result, our electric coil burners now use Sensi-Temp Technology.
Due to these regulations, the Sensi-Temp technology on some of our ranges is not able to be disabled.
We hope this information was helpful, and please let us know if we can provide further assistance.
All the best. - PM
I would gather you have an issue with office cleaning staff ?

I bought a new stove finally.. only to ruin my deep fried halibut... Can't fry anything the stove keeps turning off.
I haate how they make the sound of a service bell. Its annoying when frying food
-NC
@@geappliancesHow about you get rid of these stupid sensi coils and go back to the way they used to be.

These regulations completely screwed up a perfectly good burner. Can't even boil a pot of water.
Can they actually be replaced with regular coils?

Helpful... used gas stove my whole life then came to an apartment with one of THESE 😳. I usually start off with medium heat and go from there.
How are you supposed to boil water when there are water advisories you have to disinfect things I mean this is very odd having this system.
Hi - thanks for checking with us! The sensi-temp range coil elements would not affect your everyday cooking performance. It is important, however, that you use pans with a flat bottom. We hope this helps! -NC
@@geappliancesyes it does!

PS the bottom of my pot was flat, so don’t use that lame excuse.
When the coil decides that my pot is overheated, and chooses to 'shut down' just before the boiling point 🙄😠
Hi there! When the sensor detects a pan temperature near the limit (450 degree Fahrenheit), the burner will shut off automatically until a lower, safe pan temperature is reached. At that point, heat will resume to the burner. During the temporary automatic shut-off:

Garbage.
