That was a valiant effort... I would have opted for buying new ones... As a matter of fact, since mine have badly burnt on food that simply can not be removed, I am saving up to buy a glass-top range... I am really sick and tired of cleaning my coil-top stove. By the way, one can buy a product to re-paint the enamel that is chipped off on this range.
Thank you for your comment! Yes, I researched some appliance paint but didn't want to spend that kind of money on a rental unit, unfortunately they don't send it in a small enough size to make it worth it. Good luck with saving up for a glass top. Definitely easier to clean. 😊
@@HeyMaaa Well dear you surely put in a great effort for a rental. The appliance paint I got was in a bottle like nail polish size. I got it at a hardware store and it was very inexpensive... just something to note that it is available in some places.

Cleaning the stove everynight before bed (or atleast once a week if everynight is too much for you) will keep it clean and looking brand new. Youll avoid all the elbow grease to clean up after everything has stuck. No judgement just a tip if anyone needs. Also surprised so many people didnt know the stove top lifted.
My apartment is so bad ..leaks..fridge don't work n these things r messed up. I don't know why they even rented it to me. But I'm gonna do this cuz I can't cook without the smoke detector beeping all crazy. Thank u for this !!
Oh no! Definitely clean them if your smoke detector is going off. I think my daughter also had a little smoking. A lot of people see the plug on the burner and get super scared to clean it. You can clean it but like everything else, you have to be careful! I have lived is some messed up rentals in my life too, that's how I know how to improve them. Out of all the videos I find on UA-cam for cleaning an electric range which I already know how to clean I have yet to find one the actually shows how to clean the actual burners. If possible could you do a video on it…as I do not want to mess them up❤
The problem is when I put my stove back together my indicator burner light won't come back on. Now even though I turn the stove on I don't know which burner is on without holding my hand over it to feel for heat .
Definitely a job for a professional. I wouldn't ignore this. It could be a blown bulb or it can be a short. Remember this is an electrical appliance so Please, please, please be careful. Good Luck! Thank you for your comment! 😊 ~Hey Maaa
Really scared to clean my electric stove. I can't seem to find the plug and don't want to move the stove, but I want to ensure that it's safe before I clean. Any tips? Thank you for this video!
I agree with Vixen Van Gogh, if you are nervous about cleaning it while it is plugged in than the circuit breaker would to turn off the power. I have never done that but it cant hurt.
You are a great mom. Please adopt me😁 seriously I just tried to clean my stove plates this morning.. fail!! In going to try your way. Thank you for posting
Hi! Thanks so much for this video! I've been wanting to deep clean my kitchen and had no idea you could remove the tops that way! Quick question- my stovetop is black. Will the steel wool scratch off the color or will it be fine?
I would not use steel wool on the black part. It is only painted on and can scratch or chip. Maybe a plastic scrub pad would help and lots of elbow grease. There are a lot of good products on the market to cut the old baked on stains without harming the finish. I hope this helps. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 😊 Thank you for your comment!
Hey Maaa! What do I do when every time I use my stove the burner I put my pots and pans on starts to smoke/steam up??? I tried looking for a video and stumbled upon your video, and I’m figuring this might be a good thing to do, but mine aren’t very dirty, I just moved into this place like 6 months ago and they’ve just started doing it, was it my fault? Is it wise to clean them like you did or should I get someone to look at them?
Thank you for your comment. I would guess something fell on the burners or below the burners and that's why it is smoking. I hope it's not steam because that would mean water is close to the electrical insert area. But if the burners are clean, than I do not know what could cause this problem. My advice would be to report it to maintenance. We're glad you enjoyed the video! 😊 ~Hey Maaa
Ya I just moved into a place with a different stove and it's like this one now and everytime I try to cook it smokes and my bf said they need cleaning they are also a bit rusted out
If they are dirty, wait until they're cool, you can wipe them off with a lightly damp cloth. I didn't have to here and generally don't have to unless something us spilled on them. Thank you for your comment, ~Hey Maaa😊
If the coils were oily or had some residue on them I would have wiped them down with a damp cloth. I don't think I had to do that here. But if you ever have a spill or something. You can do this once they cool down. Thank you for your comment,😊 ~Hey Maaa
Man I just need to know how to clean those dang burners. Done watched 5 videos. Can I even wash them? I have no idea what dripped on it, but lots of smoke.
No! Please don't wash them. They are electrical devices. I have had this same problem and this is what I did, although... no guarantees on safety here. 🧯🚒 I unplugged them and gently washed the coil areas with a damp sponge and water, that's it. If there is solid debris on the coil use a plastic scouring pad. I was really just trying to get whatever was on them (once it was burnt on overflowed🥛 milk *terrible*, once it was oil) without introducing toxic chemicals ☠️because of the next step. The sad part is when they've dry and you plug them back in There Will Still Be Smoke.😶🌫️ At that point I just put on the exhaust, opened the windows, turned off the fire detector and burnt it off.🔥 That is what I have done in the past. But again I can't say that was the right way. Thanks for commenting, I hope this helps!😊 ~Hey Maaa
No need but some are nervous and feel better unplugging any electrical device before cleaning or working on it. Thank you for your comment, we're glad you enjoyed the video! 😊 ~Hey Maaa
I have never done that personally but it cant hurt. Safety first! I would say if you are nervous about cleaning it while it is plugged and the power is on, then flipping the circuit breaker is the easiest way to cut the power. 😊
I'm maintenance and janitor worker I knew this for years I just surprised s lot people didn't know this all ready.. you all so could just wrap the pan in aluminum foil
I think a lot of the younger people (my daughter's age and younger) mostly had glass top stoves by time they got their own places. That is why I made this video. I was surprised that my daughter didn't know how they came apart for cleaning. I also remember my Mom wrapping the drip pans in foil, although I didn't like that much. I tended to get dirty easier so you'd have to replace it often. Thanks for your comment, 😊 ~Hey Maaa
Honestly I don't remember. If I had to guess Id say Walmart, Dollar Tree or Publix (grocery store here in Fl). It is commonly available where I live in America. I hope this helped! 😊 Thank you for your comment!
Did you turn the power off to them first? I’m super pregnant and can’t reach or move my stove but I want to clean it so so badly but I can’t reach my plugs or my circuit breaker
No I did not turn off the power. But I was careful around the openings and didnt saturate the stovetop or anything with lots of liquids. Just please be very careful around the openings. Congratulations, you probably have your little one by now! (sorry it took so long to answer) I'm glad this helped! 😊 Thank you for your comment!
I'm not familiar with that type of stovetop but I did a little Googling of "How to clean a Hotpoint stove top" and found some tips. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's for your exact model and don't want to tell you something that would be dangerous or break your stove. I would recommend Googling and see what answers others in your situation received. I hope this helps! 😊 Thank you for your comment!
What gloves do you wear in this video? Also if she is renting, the landlord should be the one to pay for the replacements if they were in disrepair when she moved in.
I agree, but my daughter is not one to complain...to the landlord. Why do that when you can complain to your Mom who does DIYs all the time. 😉Seriously, it was a cheap little project and since I recorded it, it seems to have helped a lot of people. 😊Thanks for your comment! ~Hey Maaa

Glad I was able to help. Evidently a lot of people, including homeowners and landlords don't know how to clean electric stoves anymore. Hey, that's what UA-cam is for, I guess. I hope this helps. Thank you for you comment!😊 ~Hey Maaa
I view'd thys to see how the silver heat plates slip back in; but that part was bypassed.. 😣 I took one off, & now i seem to have trouble slipping it back in the round groove.. .. its not sitting flushed in place like its suppose to.. 🤷♂️🤦♂️😫 #Dang It
Thanks for the comment. I'm sorry that I didn't record the part you needed.🙄 Maybe it is not sitting in the little slot correctly? There are little slots in the silver rim that line up with the metal on the base of the coil. When it's not lined up the coil will be raised a little bit. I hope this helps. Let me know if this solves the problem. ~Hey Maaa 😊
@@HeyMaaa Hey, thanks. Its quite alright.. 😄👌🏽 I will give it a try when i get a moment & see if i can get it back in.. I just happen to notice that, they're suppose to sit flush to the surface, but kept sliding whenever i attempted putting it back on.. I was checking for any grooves to see if i was doin it wrong.. ... but i think the next tyme, i'll just leave it 😂
@@HeyMaaa Oh Indeed without a doubt, you're welcome.. 😁👌🏽 Nowadays, I've noticed when people give their genuine attention on doing something; a persons good work goes unnoticed, so its only right to give credit when credit is due! 💁♂️😊
Thanks for your comment! 😊It seems I forgot to record that part, as I've been told. They should plug right back in. There are usually little slots in the rim that the feet of the coils fit back into. That's the only slightly difficult part. You just have to be sure to line that up correctly. Let me know if you have any questions.😊 ~Hey Maaa
I definitely understand, that's why I mentioned that they are not that expensive. I would tend to just clean them if possible. No sense in throwing out a perfectly good item. But, as you see in this video sometimes they are too far gone and in that instance I would replace them. Thanks for your comment!😊 ~Hey Maaa
It's always a little scary the first time you do it. Even if you're like me and know it's supposed to come out. I hope the video helps! 😊 Thank you for your comment!
@HeyMaaa even adding baking soda to the vinegar.. its amazing!!! The steel scrubby made me nervous. I have great luck with just a soft green scrubby thing. On the white enamel.. plus on my glass top. Thank you for sharing .. you are a great Mom💞
My Mom is a big advocate for cleaning with banking soda and elbow grease. It probably would work pretty well. Thank you for the tip and thanks for the comment! 😊 ~Hey Maaa
Wear a mask … once the top of the stove is sprayed with oven cleaner let it soak for about 10 minutes then the scrubbing isn’t necessary.. a soft cloth can be used and the grease will come right off .
My stove is one year old and my drip pans and coil burners are just as clean as the day I bought the stove because I spend no more then 5 minutes every night and clean them with a Mr. Clean eraser pad. I can't believe you would cook food on this filthy nasty stove when it it so easy to keep clean.
Thanks for the tip on keeping a new stove clean. This video is more for those who have an old stove or one that needs to be cleaned. 😊 Thank you for the comment. ~Hey Maaa
I agree with you 100%! I was appalled when I edited the video and heard it running and running and running. Usually I'm the one who tell people to turn off the water and not let it run. I think I was just so distracted with the task at hand and recording and remembering to say the steps that I forgot to turn it off. It just slipped my mind. Just want you to know that I do care about Mother Earth and want to preserve her water. It was a mistake. Thank you for your comment! 😊 ~Hey Maaa

I'd definitely try cleaning it, should fix the problem. Thanks for the comment! Good Luck!☺️
~Hey Maaa
Do you wash the stove burners
If they are dirty, wait until they're cool, you can wipe them off with a lightly damp cloth. I didn't have to here and generally don't have to unless something us spilled on them.
Thank you for your comment, ~Hey Maaa😊
do you clean the coils too?
If the coils were oily or had some residue on them I would have wiped them down with a damp cloth. I don't think I had to do that here. But if you ever have a spill or something. You can do this once they cool down.
Thank you for your comment,😊
~Hey Maaa
Thank you so so much!
You're welcome! Thank you for your comment!😊
~Hey Maaa
Man I just need to know how to clean those dang burners. Done watched 5 videos. Can I even wash them? I have no idea what dripped on it, but lots of smoke.
No! Please don't wash them. They are electrical devices.
I have had this same problem and this is what I did, although... no guarantees on safety here. 🧯🚒
I unplugged them and gently washed the coil areas with a damp sponge and water, that's it.
Thanks for commenting, I hope this helps!😊
~Hey Maaa
Thank you Mama! 😂
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the comment 😊
Omg thank u for showing me this. !!
Our pleasure! Glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for your comment! 😊 ~Hey Maaa
Do you have to unplug the oven before cleaning?
No need but some are nervous and feel better unplugging any electrical device before cleaning or working on it. Thank you for your comment, we're glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
~Hey Maaa
What type of spray did she use
I believe I used 409 Lemon Scented Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner. Thank you for your comment. ~Hey Maaa 😊
Do I need to unplug or turn the circuit breaker off first?
Thanks for your comment, 😊
~Hey Maaa
Where did you buy 409?
Honestly I don't remember. If I had to guess Id say Walmart, Dollar Tree or Publix (grocery store here in Fl). It is commonly available where I live in America. I hope this helped! 😊 Thank you for your comment!
Leo 😍😍😍😍
She was a sweet girl.
🥰🐶❤️Thanks for the comment, ~Hey Maaa😊
Did you turn the power off to them first? I’m super pregnant and can’t reach or move my stove but I want to clean it so so badly but I can’t reach my plugs or my circuit breaker
No, turning it off is not necessary
No I did not turn off the power. But I was careful around the openings and didnt saturate the stovetop or anything with lots of liquids. Just please be very careful around the openings. Congratulations, you probably have your little one by now! (sorry it took so long to answer)
I'm glad this helped! 😊 Thank you for your comment!
Mine don't lift and pull, they are different. It's an old tiny apartment Hotpoint stove. Help!!
~Hey Maaa
Also, I just wore regular rubber gloves that you would use to wash dishes.
My stove looks just like this. I thought the paint burned off/on. Feel better about getting I cleaned.
I'm glad this helped! 😊 Thank you for your comment!
Hi leo!!🥰
I just teared up. Unfortunately we lost Leo Aug of this year. She lived a long active 15 years and enjoyed all of the time she had with my daughter. We all miss her very much. Thank you for your comment and noticing our precious angel.
We will love her always and forever. We miss you, Leonora.♥
@@HeyMaaa I'm so so sorry for your loss.. ull meet again on the rainbow bridge.. if u dont know what that is u can Google it. It may make u feel better. 🌈🥰
Thank you for this video because I have a electric stove I moved into the place and is atrocious
Glad I was able to help. Evidently a lot of people, including homeowners and landlords don't know how to clean electric stoves anymore. Hey, that's what UA-cam is for, I guess. I hope this helps. Thank you for you comment!😊 ~Hey Maaa
Excuse me???? The top of the stove liftssss????
Ha, ha, ha! 😂Like the video says....It's MAGIC! Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for the comment! ~Hey Maaa😊
Can you explain how you lift the top of the stove like that please?
I view'd thys to see how the silver heat plates slip back in; but that part was bypassed.. 😣
I took one off, & now i seem to have trouble slipping it back in the round groove.. ..
its not sitting flushed in place like its suppose to..
🤷♂️🤦♂️😫
#Dang It
Thanks for the comment.
I was checking for any grooves to see if i was doin it wrong.. ... but i think the next tyme, i'll just leave it 😂
I did fail to mention; overall, your video & cleaning technique was awesome!👌🏽😁
Awww...Thanks for that! 😊~Hey Maaa
@@HeyMaaa Oh Indeed without a doubt, you're welcome.. 😁👌🏽
Nowadays, I've noticed when people give their genuine attention on doing something; a persons good work goes unnoticed, so its only right to give credit when credit is due! 💁♂️😊
Yeah, maybe spray this in your garage or outdoors.
Very valid suggestion. 👍I did have the door cracked for ventilation. Thank for your comment, ~Hey Maaa😊
Don’t use steel wool on the surface, use a nylon scrubber
Hmmm... thanks for the tip. Thank you for your comment! 😊 ~Hey Maaa
Now I know how to take off, but not how to put back on. Hahahaha
Thanks for your comment! 😊It seems I forgot to record that part, as I've been told. They should plug right back in. There are usually little slots in the rim that the feet of the coils fit back into. That's the only slightly difficult part. You just have to be sure to line that up correctly. Let me know if you have any questions.😊
~Hey Maaa
Aluminum does not rust. They are steel. You can check with a magnet
The more you know...
I did not know that. Thank you for your knowledgeable comment. I'm always up to learn something new.😊
Mmmmm challah!!
Yes! Delish! 😋Thank you for the comment!😊 ~Hey Maaa
Thanks, but you didn't show how to clean the cooking coils 😕
I replace the drip pans every six months for what they costs it's not worth the time to scrub them
I definitely understand, that's why I mentioned that they are not that expensive. I would tend to just clean them if possible. No sense in throwing out a perfectly good item. But, as you see in this video sometimes they are too far gone and in that instance I would replace them.
Thanks for your comment!😊
~Hey Maaa
I pulled one out by accident and I thought I broke it😂😂😂
It's always a little scary the first time you do it. Even if you're like me and know it's supposed to come out. I hope the video helps! 😊 Thank you for your comment!
One word vinegar! Then soak.
Vinegar is definitely great for cleaning. I will try that in the future. Thanks for the comment. 😊
@HeyMaaa even adding baking soda to the vinegar.. its amazing!!! The steel scrubby made me nervous. I have great luck with just a soft green scrubby thing. On the white enamel.. plus on my glass top.
Thank you for sharing .. you are a great Mom💞
Pair of new drip pans $10.00 at home depot.
Thanks for the tip! Thank you for your comment! 😊 ~Hey Maaa
Try baking soda next time
My Mom is a big advocate for cleaning with banking soda and elbow grease. It probably would work pretty well. Thank you for the tip and thanks for the comment!
😊
~Hey Maaa
~Hey Maaa
The sixth extinction is coming &with hands held together in prayer , it happens during this generation . #Let’sGetIt
Yeah, you're probably right about that. Might as well have a clean stove when I slip into extinction. Thanks for the comment!
😊~Hey Maaa
It would not have been much trouble to turn off your dryer until your vid was finished. That is why I stopped watching before 1 minute had passed.
😷 wear a mask next time
Wear a mask please
Always, luckily I have a bunch from doing crafts. Thank you for your concern and thank you for the comment. 😊~Hey Maaa
You're wasting unnecesary water 😥.
😊 ~Hey Maaa
Your daughter don't know how to clean?? Sorry..maybe you should have shown her.
Thank you for your comment. It is her first time with an electric stove top. She knew how to clean a glass top and I showed her how to clean an electric one. I suppose if she ever gets a gas stove she'll ask me to show her that, as well. Mothering never ends.
😊~Hey Maaa
I'm 65 and I had no idea how to clean an electric stove.
I've only had gas stoves, so how on earth would I know how to deal with this contraption with weird electric coils on top?
I didn't know how easily and safely the coils could be removed to clean underneath.
Everything is clean now.👍🏻
