As a native french speaker, I can tell you that Blue is the warmest color definitely is overrated😂😂
I think a lot of english speakers have a slight preference because it's ☄french☄, so they don't really understand the lines or culture as well.

It's strange: I can understand not liking it, more than I can understand not understanding it (after the first time!). Poor Diane has a dream which (mostly) solves her problems until, darn it, the cognitive dissonance (and maybe a need to pee? 🤔) wakes her up. Then she's stuck w/ her increasingly awful life, and... [saving something for the unspoiled]. A flip summary, to be sure, but that said: one of my favorite films.

Carol is one of my favourite lesbian movies. I think a lot of lesbian movies are overrated, but I think that's because there are not really that much great ones out there. I mean, there's not that much lesbian movies out there in the first place, so we'll just basically watch any gay content we get our hands on. So every time we're not extremely dissapointed by a lesbian movie, we're happy with it and we spread word about it. I used to watch entire series just because there was one gay couple after like 5 seasons or something. Now I'm more of a reader though, it's a lot less dissapointing lol

The lack of a love story as a solo focus just highlights the love story even more, there’s so much longing, it really worked for me.

I just found your channel and I’m loving it. I just disagree with you about Carol, I don’t think it is overrated it is a beautiful well-told movie. It made me like Rooney Mara who ,let’s face it, the most annoying rich girl there is. I actually read The price of salt because of it and it was a brilliant adaptation. The problem with many lesbian movies Is that they have the same-Old plot or no plausible plot, or they follow the same clichés. The kids are alright would’ve been better if Julianne Moore had cheated on her wife with another woman, Blue is the warmest.. made the same mistake and the only reason it was sooo hyped was because it was a lesbian soft-core porn movie. Ironically, I think Carol would’ve been better if they had focused more on the love story between the women, I mean they didn’t’t make much of Paulson’s character and her previous relationship with Carol, they even deleted what I think must have been the best scene of the movie: Abby warning Therese about Carol being so vulnerable. As a result, it makes no sense when Therese questions Abby why she dislikes her, Therese, so much. I’m sorry, it’s not overrated.

Carol is a movie I’ve come to deeply adore, however, on the cause of reading the book, The Price of Salt, before investing into the movie adaptation.
The book is so much more fleshed out, conveys and explains a lot of the restraint and history between different characters, especially Abby’s relationship with Carol and Therese. And provides much more substance that I think would have done the movie a lot more justice. The comment you made about “style over substance” not only made me laugh crying but also 100% agreeing with you.
While I do appreciate the screenplay, direction and cinematography, I felt truly it could have benefited off of deleted scenes and more subtext in dialogue that was beautifully orchestrated in the book. There is a lot more symbolism with certain characters and objects that invests into Therese’s existentialist crisis and relationship with her world and Carol, that I feel really could have saved the over-restrained subtext of the movie. I still do treasure it though, but feel your opinion on is also 100% valid!

I get some people are polyamorous but you dont do that shit behind peoples backs. There was a huge believability gap for me, which is why it was overated. The lack of screenplay in carol is what made it for me a little bit of a deception, i think they rushed into things way too fast and they should have respected the pace of the book a little bit more, the way u connect so much with Therese practically feeling the pain and excitement she feels Everytime she lives something with Carol wasn't quite there..... Is funny cuz the chemistry of the actresses was present but wasn't beautifully exploted

About Blue, don't know if u heard about it, but there were scandals around the movie and specially about Kechiche. Adele and Lea Seydoux said it was a very very hard shooting and Kechiche was kind of a tyrant (for example the fight scene you show in your video was hell for Adele, they had to shot it so many times and she had to be slapped every time, their tears are real). There was an other scandal around employees conditions and non-paiement for their work etc...
If you add to it those really problematics sexe scenes, yes Adele is clearly overrated !

I think the thing about Carol that was missing was that they didn't explain enough about just how incredibly difficult, and even dangerous it was for women to even just meet other women. Or even admit to themselves that they wanted to.
Compulsory heterosexuality was SOOOOOO strong in the 50s (and 60s and 70s, although it started shifting in the 70s). Carol did what SOOOOOO many women did in those days and married a man. And then realized she wanted to be with women.
If you lived through compulsary heterosexuality, like I did, the movie makes way more sense and is way more meaningful. But even having lived through that horror (and it was horrible. People wouldn't just leave me in peace about it, and there were always males hovering and pushing for it), I still believe the movie would have been more powerful if it had made it more explicit. Because then you understand better why it was such a big deal for Carol to meet Therese.
They also should have gone more into why Carol's relationship with Abby didn't work out. Because this also explains why it was such a big deal for Carol to meet Therese (I know there were Carol and Abby scenes that were cut. Maybe someday there will be a release that puts them back in). "Flung out of space" resonates very differently when you know more about the back story.
Having said this, I still love the movie. When Carol tells Therese she loves her is still one of the most beautifully heartbreaking scenes I've ever seen.
And the scene where they have lunch, and Carol is trying to figure out Therese's situation without being obvious (because to do so could literally destroy her life if she is wrong about Therese), is a masterpiece, IMHO. Because back in the day I have done the exact same thing, with practically the exact same words and feelings ...
And, of course, the cinematography and costumes and sets were gorgeous. As was Cate Blanchett.
All of the above is of course imho ...

The Kids are Alright, left me very disappointed. It was really the first big budget, mainstream lesbian movie with a big named cast. The cast were amazing, I just think it 1. could have been better and 2. was SOOO put off by the cheating with a man thing...being a lesbian who has been waiting for a movie like this for, at the time, close to 50 yrs, and we have cheating with a man, my first reaction was all the non LGBTQ+ people who watch will have the "she's not really gay, she just needs to meet the right man." That just rubbed me the wrong way. The Favorite was ok, I think it could have been better. What I got out of it was something I already knew, Olivia Colman is AMAZING! I have been a huge fan since stumbling onto Broadchurch. I remember her being great and I loved the scenery, but honestly, I hardly remember the other actresses at all. The script just really lacked. Carol, well, I was looking for ward to that one. Cate Blanchet is such a great actor, and, well, she is very pleasant to look at, I just could not relate to the characters. The cinematography was great, the costumes were great, I just could not find anything about the characters I could hold onto, except the custody thing, and that is because I can relate, in the early 1990's I went through the same thing. Which is freakin sad that there is a period drama and my life having to deal with hemophobia vs parenting. Usually when I see a GOOD movie or TV show, my mind wonders "what happens next"...to the characters, unless it's something like Game of Thrones, nearly everyone is dead at the end. A good character stays with me, at least for a few days, some decades...(so thankful Shane, Alice, Bette and Tina are back.) Mulholland Drive. OMG...SO, I watched it 4 times, 4 times, and honestly I still don't know what they hell went on. Now, I have watched movies like this...I was a film, television major in college, film teachers always pull out the weirdest things they can get their hands on, so I have watched movies that you REALLY have to pay attention to, or movies that leave you thinking WTF? SO, watched the movie when it first came out, yes, hot lesbian scene, but that was all I could tell people. When asked "how was the movie, " so many times I said, "I have no idea." I watched it again when I went through a Naomi Watts phase, had a little crush, so I gave it another shot, Watched it again with a friend...finially, my cousin, who works in film, went to an anniversary screening of the film in LA (Naomi was not there, but other cast was...because I wanted him to slip her my number..LOL JK). He is younger than me and actually studied the film when getting his masters degree. We talked and talked about theories...but honstly, I'm getting old, I can't spend so much time trying to figure out WTF the movie was trying to tell me. I just want a nice story about lesbians. When will that happen? (BTW, so with you on Eternal Sunshine...I am not usually a Jim Carry fan, but my little cousin told me to watch and, well it did not take me but once to GET what the movie was about, that film is on my top 10 movies of all time, because it was executed well, and the point, well, it spoke to me. I agree with you on Blue..Parts I really liked, parts I did not.

I think that Mulholland Drive is a masterpiece and one of my favorite films ever. But the fact that it has a wlw relationship was just a cherry on top for me. In my reading, it wasn't significant for the story. It could've just as well been an mlm or heterosexual couple. Although I have seen interpretations that would disagree with me.
But Mulholland Drive is very much for people who like films that need to be solved like logical puzzles. Also surreal and with much symbolism. After all, most of this movie is a fever dream of a very mentally unstable protagonist. And you need to figure it out to understand the film. So if this kind of story is not your thing, then, well, it's just not for you.

Hate to say, but when we crave for representation, anything close to being mediocre becomes legendary or classic. It's the scarcity issue, not the artistic taste of the lesbian community.
With lesbian movies still being niche and indie, almost all lesbian movies with modest quality may earn overwhelming loyalty and excitement of the community. I hope to see the day, when the major production companies invest its fair share in telling the stories of the LGBTQ, and these movies all compete just the way movies do. May the future hold fair representation of lesbians in movies and tv shows and we don't have to find joy and solace from mediocracy. (But I still love Carol!)

The Favourite is one of my... hm favorite movies of all time. It is very witty, brilliantly written and enacted, i loved the camera work, editing, all the small details that the film is charged with. It is also stylish AF.
I can easily recite more than a few lines from it (which I actually do frequently) as the writing is incredibly sharp. Performances from Weisz and Colman are captivating and nuanced. Lantimos made a thing of beauty, not overrated by any means imo.
