The tip about not rotating your shoulder as a left handed hitter helped me tons. It's something none of my coaches ever told me, but it makes a difference to have your body straight. It also makes it far easier to stay behind the ball because it doesn't leave your field of view.
I learn a lot watching your videos. Thank you. It will be interesting to see how it goes when we put the lessons to work in the court. Perhaps you can start taking video feedback from players (privately) and provide your suggestions on how to improve for each case.
i start my approach when the setter has finished the pass and i jump when the ball is just after its peak and that works for me ( im a teen so i play on a relatively low net ) and im not very tall so this is what works for me also im 3 years late to this comment :D
I learned alot watching this video. The problem with my mistake is I keep going straight and don't make that 90 degree turn. I have the three step approach to but its that 90 degree turn that screws my spikes up alot. Thanks for this video!
Thank you for the videos - they are great. If you would be able to create a footwork and approach video for right side and middle and slide, that would be awesome! Thank you!
Coach Donny, I love your videos and find them very educational. However, the background noise makes them difficult to listen to. Might I recommend you either rerecord the audio, use a mobile wireless microphone that can filter out the background noise on future videos, or see if whatever is causing the background noise can be temporarily shut down while you are recording these.

Dear Coach Donny Thanks a lot for your invaluable videos. I'm a big fan from Egypt. I'd like to ask about modifications of footwork for a rear line hitter (from behind the 10 feet line) Best of luck 😊😊
1.what are the correct steps for attack by the left profile 2. Mention what are the correct steps for attack by the right profile 3. what is the correct order for the movement of the arms at the moment of the attack. right
I guess it goes without saying but it is exactly the reverse footwork when hitting from the 2 position. I guess center hitters actually follow the "left handed" approach since the need to open up to both directions of the court.
Coach can you tell me what type of shape of hand have to be made to hit a volley and the shaped hand should be placed on top of volleyball or on the side part ???
Hi coach, great video. Your channel has been really helpful with the tutorials and the highlights. Question about that last step being 90 degrees - I've heard both that you should and shouldn't from different sources. the people who say you shouldn't think you risk damaging your knee by turning it and stopping all your forwards force because the knee isn't supposed to bend that way. Do you have any opinion on that? I'm looking at my approach now and my last foot is closer to 45 degrees than 90, but I'm a pretty bad hitter haha. once again, thanks for all the great content! Inspired me to start working out again :)
I’m a 6’1 left handed OP and I’m trying to apply this footwork in my game play I don’t really have any consistent teammates so how do I use this even if my teammates can’t set consistently almost anywhere.
Hi !! First thanks for this amazing video. It helped me a lot to change my footwork. I used to have the same footwork as right-handed people : left-right-left so my spiking wasn't that powerful. I'm Working on it but it's Not easy to change this bad habit. I'm a left-handed Middle blocker and I would like to learn tips on how to block in an efficient way.
Any suggestions for players with a goofy approach or this approach okay? I can't seem to get the right left down on the final two steps, I am always left right. Think I got it from playing basketball and high jump in track. If you can give me any tips, I would appreciate it.
+ElevateYourselfNow Hey, thanks for the reply. I play OH and Opp for indoors and play right side in beach. I agree with what you are saying but it is very difficult to change it up, I'll get the hang of it the first couple of times and then I notice myself going right back. My success rate is very low, haha. Any suggestions?
HEY! I hope somebody will still see this because I have a question as to how to jump on to the ball. Do I jump straight up and just and add the arm swing or do I have to jump forward to hit the ball ? I hope my question was clear enough.
Ok, idk if you will see this or not, but I am still a beginner so I honestly dont know how far I should be jumping off the net, and if it depends on the setter and where the set is. How do ik where to jump from
Does the footwork stay the same if you're on the opposite side of the court? Wouldn't you need to face straight instead of 90° so that you don't hit the ball out? Unless you're left handed..
This is my first year in volleyball and sometimes I get ahead of myself and mess up the spiking footwork. Can you give me some tips so that I won't mess up my footwork?
just asking, coach Donny how do i time my jump serve, i've always done it like too fast and the ball only hits my fingers, or its just too late and didnt make it to the enemy's teritory, and how to toss the jump serve constantly in the same height so my timing wont always change, i think my biggest problem is in my toss and my timing :D
I'm 170 cm and it's really hard to face guys over 180 as a spiker. My 30 inch vert isnt helping me at all so what I do is hit at the side and purposely hit the blockers. Or just drop the ball somewhere . It's really hard for me.
I'm right handed but my last step is actually my left foot I'm kind of awkward because I also play soccer with my left leg while being 100% right handed :( is it that bad? should i work on switching my last step?
Is it bad to do approach solely on the balls on my feet? My heels do not touch the floor at all during approach and i find i am early a lot. Would this be the cause of the problem. I have tried jumping with my heels hitting the floor but it just feels awkward.
Remy Nguyen this can probably Damage your feet, and no matter what u say or do, with your whole foot on the ground is a lot stronger than not on your heels
