- Hey guys...in this video, I show you how to install a Touch screen head unit in a 2011 Subaru Forester (also for years 2008-2012). Very simple to do, especially if you get the same unit as I got, which is:www.amazon.com...
Thanks for watching...and let me know if you have any questions, or if you attempted the install or what, in the comments section below. - Розваги
Your video made me realise it wouldn't be a difficult job and saved me money on
getting someone else to install it! Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou 😀
That's why I do these videos.. to hear that exact statement right there! You made my night, thank you:-)
Thank you for this tutorial. I have a low mileage 2011 Subaru Forester which will probably last me another 15 years, and this is a lot less expensive thnt buying a new car just to get the upgraded electronics. Looking and a backup camera and GPS navigation as well.
Love to hear it Scott! Totally agree with ya on keeping an older vehicle, especially one that has no problemos! Love my little Subie. Best of luck, and have fun upgrading...let me know how it goes:-)
Just a tip you can put the gps receiver under the dash and it will still work fine. Other tip is to transfer the yellow clip holders from your original trim to the same placed ones on the new head unit.
Thanks for the awesome tips and watching the video! Did you get this one by the way?
Thank you for posting. I would’ve been shaking my head for hours. I still have to do the back up camera so thanks for that video too in advance.
Awesome 👌...let me know how it goes 😁
Awesome video!! Thank you for breaking down the install for someone like me who knows nothing about cars lol 😅🎉🔥
So how did it go Joaquin?
Thank you 👉🫶
@@jeangeorges9626 thanks for watching:-)
Thank you very much. I found this video very helpful.
Very useful video. Others have mentioned the USB ports. I just installed (mostly) the unit, but what is the "best" way to route the USB ports so they are available?
Great video. Started with your differential fluid change videos then this. All great and saves me some money! Your gun videos may cost me some money though
Awesome Jerry...LOVE to hear someone tackling these jobs themselves to save them money, and to know it was done right!
And yeah, sorry...not responsible for the "gun buying bug" 🤣😅🤣...THANKS for watching and comment buddy!
I’m sorry but could you repost the product link? Ty
Thank you for this tutorial.
a question, do you have a tutorial on subaru forester year 2012 2014?
Great video, and being that you have the same vehicle as me, The one question that I have is / Does that head unit interface with the steering wheel controls as you didn't cover this in the operation of the unit, I too am looking for an alternative upgrade to my Subaru Forester. I looked on the link that you provided and it seems that the unit is unavailable. So - what do those of us do now?
Hey Lawrence...of course this dang manufacturer would halt production on a product I chose to review, lol, just my luck! I unfortunately do not have steering wheel controls for radio, so that is why I didn't go into that detail....but usually, if the head unit does not come with the capability to interface with your settings, then no biggy...it just means you have to purchase an external module like the ASWC-1. Hopefully you can get this unit in near future...I have been pretty pleasantly surprised by its performance.
Just bought my Forester. It has this exact touch screen in it. When i first got it, it wouldnt turn on. It was a fuse. It turns on but i dont hear any noise
Hi. Thank you for sharing great video. I am planning to install the similar product to this on Amazon. And the review says the GPS is laggy. Does this have the same issue? I am just thinking if I should buy a third party GPS module. The video is awesome!
Hey Greedy...so far, I have not noticed that what-so-ever, so take that for what it is worth:-) And I say that cause, real world use has been very limited since I purchase it (3 weeks to be exact), but again, so far, it has performed exactly how I needed it too. I would hold off on the 3rd party module for now and get an idea of what its capabilities are for yourself. I really do think you would be pleasantly surprised. Let me know what happens though...and THANKS FOR WATCHING and the comment:-)
@@hurstysgarage hi Hursty, im looking at picking this up and wondering if the gps has suffered at all since your last comment 8 months ago. Thank you
@@2g1c69 awesome...yeah, I don't think so...but I mostly use it thru the caraway app with Google maps. Downloading local maps and using "offline" works just fine too. Don't really have anything horrible to say about it:-) Although another user said the manufacturer is on back order right now for these...Don't know how true that is though.
I was same 2011 Subaru Forrester too , were can get a car stereo and wire
Thank you 😊
Great video... might have missed it, but all steering wheel controls work with new head unit, correct?
Hey Dan, here is what they state on their seller page, '【Steering Wheel Control】 It support Steering Wheel Control, more convenient to switch songs and channels, you can adjust volume without taking your hands off the steering wheel." And I asked them that specific question (but still waiting to hear back from them.
Unfortunately, I was not able to TEST that on my vehicle, because I don't have steering wheel controls...so at this time, I cannot confirm 100% whether or not you can (I am just taking their word.
I guess worst case scenario, you have to get a module like the ASWC-1 Axxess SWC module. I tried looking up whether the Subaru had an Analog or Digital Canbus module for SWC, but didn't get much luck!
I will let you know what they tell me:-)
@@hurstysgarage awesome thanks... I think it's low risk,.the harness needs to match the wires, so there's no reason it shouldn't work. Thanks again
@@qudjy1 Over a year after watching this video, I finally got around to purchasing and installing this. In my case, there is a section in the settings of the tablet that let me program/set the media controls on my steering wheel. The unit also appears to know when the headlights are turned on, so I guess the wiring harness shown at 3:30 covers a lot of functions :)
Hey man, thanks for sharing this. Is this system still working? What are your reviews on the installed product?
Thanks for the info, is there also rear camera Input?
Yes... but it looks like this dang manufacturer is not making this product anymore for some reason, which is a shame:-)
I must have missed something, does the unit screw in with original screws or does it just pop into the console? Thank you for sharing this video, I'm seriously considering this unit for a 2010 forester.
Awesome man, yeah, it all just snaps in, you don't need to use the screws from the factory, that's what makes the install so awesome and easy:-) let me know if you do this and how it worked out:-)
Thanks
THANKS A BUNCH my friend! So, give me the details on what you did (installation) or are you thinking about it or? Let me know if you need anything further, and again, THANKS 😊
When you connect back the battery cable, do you have any light on the dash like TPS, ABS or check engine?
I did not, but that might be common and what you do is just have to reset that light using some type of OBD reader or taking to someone that can do that:-)
so i got something similar to the stereo and for some reason i cant use the buttons on my steering wheel like the volume and skip buttons what did i miss?
does it have a dedicated steering wheel controller module? Sometimes you need an external module like the this...www.bing.com/aclk?ld=e8MppV9Mym16N3kdCHrrK73TVUCUzpAys2hFpqpA_HI5xtMcpGKRhTneuTx4IjL6uTQYk6HCl4a46-AY8f7Zh3-pczUYnut9h1ANjAYD1wsUA7DIT730q4NkC7a6fRL5lnEnzWCTK3M3D7HFhoKa1d5sNBU5OXwYwrYvWdKaF8P3fmcRdwqPefQpYlGxjyfairVWKq5g&u=aHR0cHMlM2ElMmYlMmZ3d3cuYW1hem9uLmNvbSUyZkF4eGVzcy1BU1dDLTEtVW5pdmVyc2FsLVN0ZWVyaW5nLUludGVyZmFjZSUyZmRwJTJmQjAwQjRQSkM5SyUyZnJlZiUzZGFzY19kZl9CMDBCNFBKQzlLJTNmdGFnJTNkYmluZ3Nob3BwaW5nYS0yMCUyNmxpbmtDb2RlJTNkZGYwJTI2aHZhZGlkJTNkODAzMzMxMjAxMjAyOTElMjZodm5ldHclM2RvJTI2aHZxbXQlM2RlJTI2aHZibXQlM2RiZSUyNmh2ZGV2JTNkYyUyNmh2bG9jaW50JTNkJTI2aHZsb2NwaHklM2QlMjZodnRhcmdpZCUzZHBsYS00NTgzOTMyNjk5NjU2NzAxJTI2cHNjJTNkMQ&rlid=2597c19cd134160a93fea76095397579&ntb=1&ntb=1
First though...double check your settings for controls in head unit. Contact manufaturer and pick their brain to confirm their unit is equipped and compatible with controls.
lastly, might be a bad module and might have to receive another from manufacturer.
Try those, and let me know how that goes.
Hi friend i have a subaru 2010 forrester with sat nav stereo and would like to replace it with a head unit can you help me
Sounds like a nice ride and were you able to get it completed there Frank? Thanks for watching by the way
Hi thanks for sharing this great video, I’m looking at getting this unit. Does it work well with Apple car play? What’s your thoughts on the unit after using it for a while?
Hey James, I'm going to disappoint you on both of my answers. On the first, I've only used it with Android auto-play (and for that, It works awesome). And, the last, I've used it a little over a month right now, and the complaints are minimal. Volume while driving is hard to hear someone when calling due to the fact I don't have tweeters on upper door panel (so not necessarily units fault), but still can't turn up as loud as I like. Otherwise, everything else pretty much meets my standards. I'm going to do a video in a couple days that goes more in to features of radio...so stay tuned! THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Hey, i bougth basically the same unit as you, but at ligthinthebox, i recieved some other cables from you, and i previously had the 2011 infomatic display, but i wanted to upgrade. now all the wiring is a mess, i have no idea how to wire everything together. can you help?
Hey Isak...I can certainly try my friend. What do you need?
Would this same unit work for a 2009 suburu impreza outback sport?
Here's what website says:-)
Applicable Models】 Subaru Forester 2008-2012, Subaru Impreza 2008-2011, Subaru Impreza WRX 2008-2014, Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2008-2014. Plug and play, no need to buy extra wiring harness.
Does waze work on this head unit?
Is it possible to get a new skin for the interface? I got a similar unit and tge default launcher is clunky and unintuitive!
Did u get your steer wheel controls to work? I can't seem to get mine functioning. Any advice?
Hey G Rod... unfortunately I could not test that out because I don't have any Factory buttons on my steering wheel for that.. I must have got the cheap Subaru, LOL. What you might have to do is get one of those converter boxes that talk with the steering wheel to the radio and convert the signal (aswc-1 from matrix is one option). Let me know how it goes!
In settings on the unit, you can map the steering wheel controls to the unit
i know in the title it says from 09-13 but on amazon its for wrx 09-12 would it work on my 13' lol i know they're the same gen but just got to make sure lol
Hey tahnoland...let me try to get an anwser from the company, and I will get back with you on that. If I had to guess, I would say yes, but that doesn't help when you are going to purchase something that is a lot of money! Great question!
Have any ideas on why my traction control light is coming on and off when I'm driving now 😭
Is your check engine light on? When Subarus get a check engine light, it also disables cruise control and traction control. I don't imagine that would be related to an aftermarket radio install though
Thanks for the "help out comment" AndroidLegend...you rock:-)
Sorry for the late response Elasha...did you ever get it figured out?
Why would a used Subaru Forester display a reverse image that shows
obstacles on the wrong side?..l reversed into a pillar, damaging the left hand rear corner, misguided by the image which showed the pillar on the right hand side..
How is the mic quality of the new stereo?
How to set the GPS & the steering wheel Valume
Any idea why the Amazon listing does not include Subaru Forester 2013?
Hey, thanks for catching that Helmut! When I did the video, they had advertised for 2009-2013 Subaru Forester.. now they revised it and put it in the 2008 to 2012! I will update the video title.. again thank you for pointing that out so I can fix it. And of course thank you so much for watching the video and commenting:-)
@@hurstysgarage absolutely. I mainly asked also because I just bought a 2013 forester so I’m in the process of looking for a compatible head unit. I’m wondering if this one would still work - anyways, great channel and thanks so much
I have a factory Amp under my seat, how can I still utilize that for my speakers and add a separate Amp and sub?
does yours have the ability to adjust bass and such sounds things? i cant figure out how to tune it to sound better the bass is way to loud automatically after i installed
How to I connect the back up camera
Is it absolutely necessary to disconnect the battery? Battery installer guy spent lots of time on connecting / disconnecting negative plug because it was not fitting properly. I am afraid if I disconnect it then I might not be able to connect it again.
I installed this without disconnecting the battery. My understanding is that this procedure is fairly low risk. If you're going to be cutting/splicing wires (instead of using a plug-and-play wiring adapter in the video at 3:30), I would definitely disconnect the battery then.
It's very weird that your battery installer had so much trouble - did he install the correct battery (Group 35)? I've replaced the battery on mine before, disconnecting/reconnecting the negative terminal is very easy and should not take more than 30 seconds to do.
Is it possible to connect the steering wheel volume controls to this unit?
yes, provided you get the wiring adapter shown in the video. If you buy one from a listing that specifically mentions 2009-2013 Subaru Forester, it will most likely include the adapter.
Hola estoy buscando el cable donde lo consigo me puede pasar el link
Any usb to connect my phone in it?
Yeah...2 of them, but they are in back and must be routed down to access them:-)
@@hurstysgarage please show them on a video
Question: What is the size of the original stereo piece, and what is the name of the converter so we dont have to sauter the wires?
We’ll my Iiphone work with it
No it says android on the radio
