What I hate about Avatar is that how can someone with just one bending beat the Avatar with four bending, that's just what makes me dislike Korra, and I still love her because she admitted that she is the worst Avatar and has failed in many ways, I HATE KUVIRA WITH PASSION
it makes sense why korra lost, she lived with poison in her body for 3 years, leading to not making a full recovery. this was her first actual fight since zaheer, so she's still getting back at it - like an injured, boxer who hasn't trained in a while fighting a match. not to mention still dealing with her loss of connection to the past avatars. girl went through it, and they expect her to bounce back like nothing happened.
@clonnlijinhlong2713 On the contrary, she was urged to rush in, turn on the Avatar State and fight Kuvira straight-on by Suyin, Jinora, Opal and probably a couple others I can't remember. We the audience knew that wouldn't work, but they both weren't along with Korra for her recovery and were desperate.
@@clonnlijinhlong2713 That last line makes it sound like you're criticizing her for fighting Kuvira, when the WHOLE time she was telling Kuvira and everyone else that she _didn't_ want that to happen.
This fight really highlights Korra's shortcomings, even aside from the PTSD and physical trauma. She treats her bending attacks as simple extensions of arms and legs; a thrown boulder is just an extended punch, a gust of air is just an extended kick. She doesn't really demonstrate too much creativity (like Kuvira hitting her from multiple angles, controlling her limbs, shifting the ground underneath her, etc.).
Ironically enough, korra not using big range attacks (that isnt earth bending) is her downfall for this fight. Kuvira's style is a precise style of fighting that resembles boxing's weaves and sways. Should korra use a big blast of fire, kuvira should have trouble and go on the defensive which opens a lot more doors for korra.
This fight is not indicative of Korra’s fighting style generally and I wished people would stop extrapolating from it like it was. This is Korra basically at her lowest. She doesn’t fight like this anywhere else in the series.
Also she throws a feint at 0:59 and seconds earlier she used earthbending to change direction without telegraphing it. Even here she’s not as basic as you claim
I may not be a fan of LOK in the slightest. But even I have to admit that Kuvira is one of the most stylish and pleasing to watch Benders in the entire series. That smooth and clam motion with the cocky and collected domenior almost reminds me of a more sane Azula in a way. Love her.
For the same reasons i really like the way they make the Beifong sisters fight. All the metal bending in this show looks really cool. Also the season with zaheer imo probably did the best for airbending even more than The last airbender. Zaheer and tenzin did some amazing feats, more so zaheer. Really showed that if the air nomads werent as peaceful as they were they cpuld have arguably been the most dangerous benders out there
How can you not be a fan of LOK, it expands the original story very well with much better animation, music and battles. And with just as original characters as in ATLA.
1:31 love the little detail. While Korra’s rocks are simply misshapen blobs, Kuvira’s are perfect rectangles. Great way to show how precise and in control she is in contrast to the avatar.
Korra left herself wide open at way too many spots and Kuvira was more than happy to exploit each and every one of them while breaking her down mentally. She's a bending genius.
Aang managed to beat buffed Ozai while being a child with no special battle training. Korra, on the other hand, was specifically trained to be a warrior and yet somehow lost to a regular bender without any buffs. Doesn’t sound right
@@nikitamyazin6586 What?? Aang got absolutely destroyed by Ozai. He nearly died. If that rock didn’t touch his back and activate his avatar state he would’ve lost.
@@nikitamyazin6586Aang was nearly killed two times in the series, and only one of them was by Ozai. Korra was suffering from PTSD in this instance. Have you never heard of post traumatic stress disorder?
"I know you're a little rusty." "Looks like the Avatar is a little off her game." "Come on, Avatar! Get up! Show me what you've got!" "I knew you were weak." Kuvira sure knows how to goad her opponents, if nothing else.
In my honest opinion I felt that Korra's enemies were her real bending teachers than the White Lotus. Amon showed Korra Strength. Unalaq showed Korra Power. Zaheer showed Korra Spirituality and Freedom. And Kuvira showed Korra Skills. And by the ending of season 4 when Korra fought the giant Mech, and Kuvira one vs. one and stopped the spirit weaponed, it showed how much she have learned from her enemies
Also, Korra was brutally outmatched by all of them, physically and ideologically. She never won against Amon, only exposed his lies to his followers. She won against Unalaq only with the help of Raava and Jinora (ok maybe this counts as a win for Korra). She was also obliterated by Zaheer and only survived due to the help of others. It is only in Book 4 that she not only learned from the antagonists, but even defeated an antagonist in an 1v1 battle and showed the antagonist a new light. It is only then that she has the high ground in both power and ideology
@@StephanMok Actually, she did kind of win against Amon using her airbending. She blasted him so much he didn't have a chance to recover and bloodbend her. Edit: Not to mention she RESISTED his own bloodbending, which is legit such a powerful feat. Because Amon was a bloodbending prodigy, who could bloodbend without even moving a muscle, AND who resisted Tonraq's bloodbending.
Other than Korra's PTSD and recent recovery, I think Kuvira's greatest advantage here is the fact that she spent nearly her entire life honing her earthbending skills to their absolute limits. Korra, on the other hand, had to learn all 4 elements, meaning she had to spread out her training to use them all. In a nutshell, Korra can be considered a jack of all trades, while Kuvira is a master of one.
I think that’s the case with all Avatars. Aang was never the best with any element besides his native element, of which he was the last practitioner. We never really see much impressive waterbending moves from Aang
@@NeMo505707 Katara had less time than that to master waterbending and had less power, but she still showed much more skill than Aang before Aang started mastering other elements. I’m not taking anything away though
Kuvira really is a powerful metal/earthbender, for not having special abilities like flying, taking bending away or a dark avatar boost. My favorite villian in the series.
Definitely. But arguably her special power is that she is more prominently a metal binder . The variation although more commonly learned in that agr , still is something that most earth binders will never do and she does it it with precision
not only korra but the fights in genereal in tlok are like this, all the bending styles were reduced to look simple and the movements were reduced to look the same despite the element, korra herself bends all the elements like she is bending fire, and use way more fire than any other element, witch is funny since she was supposed tob e the water avatar
I like how kuviras fighting style is similar to boxing, she’s uses slips and rolls to reduce movement and use of her stamina, she also uses footwork to make her opponent attack and tire themselves
That...and there were no visibly available water source for her to use. It's actually funny, she learned from Katara, but did Katara not teach her how to pull water from thin air? Or even bend her sweat? We know she taught Korra healing, so, aside from bloodbending, why didn't Korra have those in her arsenal. Missed opportunity for TLOK in hindsight.
@@bellrains not get mother+ having one big fight with your mother doesn't equal mommy issues, she had a problem with her methods and they reconciled in the comics. So she does in fact have no mommy issues
I love how korra just trying to brute force every attack. Always being predictable. While kuvira is extremely resoursful and creative with every movement
her bending skills are so bad. She trusts only on sheer force. No creativity, no stability, no bending basics. Fire needs a strong breath and disciplined/strong emotions, she wastes her breath in useless weak attacks, and her emotions are confused and undisciplined. Water needs to understand the opponent offense to counter it, she always attacks. Earth needs to be able to tank the opponent offense to wait for punish the mistakes of the opponent, Kuvira does it perfectly, but Korra has no root to stand on. and Air needs to move with the opponent to force him to fall himself. Korra knows using the elements, but she doesnt know how to master them. Each time she is opposed to a master with better bending skills, she loses or she is in great struggle.
Korra really showed a lack of mastery and adaptability in the use of any of the elements in this fight. She just lashing out with all the elements using basic attacks. While Kuvira and Zaheer with only one element showed their mastery and adaptability of their elements in their fights. They showed that having those qualities made you formidable against any element even the avatar.
@bluestacks7075 "fair fight" If you're fighting the avatar, it's never a fair fight unless they haven't learned to bend at all yet. The Avatar will always have the advantage in a fight since they know more than one element and have master them all in previous lives. But if you can defeat the avatar, make them run away from a fight, or if the avatar is in need of rescuing, then I would count it as a win for the attacker.
@@tyroned114 Still not considered a fair fight. Zaheer was a master martial artist who was stated to have the capabilities to beat any bender on his own, so with his new AIRBENDING? Saying that "fighting the avatar isn't a fair fight" is an excuse to disprove any of Korra's fights. And no, the Avatar won't always have the advantage. That's only if they fight benders who are beginners or not skilled in their crafts. We've seen multiple characters who have had the ups on Korra while she was stated to have at least gotten proficient in all four/three elements; among them Amon, Unalaq (unfused with Vaatu), and like I stated, Zaheer himself.
It shows that if you want to fight a strong enemy like kuvira you have to more than your 100% which korra wasn't she wasn't totally recovered from her trauma and wasn't ready yet to fight kuvira so i think the fight was pretty accurate
korra only thinks about her actions in a fight, never what the opponent wants or how they could counterattack. i think kuvira demonstrates absolute superiority over korra here, she’s outclassed in every way. kuvira could’ve ended the fight at any point during it, she chose to make a mockery of korra and demonstrate power, truly a capable leader
Not only that but kuvira seems to have some deadly movement speed. She literally made it look like korra was moving in slow motion the entire fight lol.
@@AGLSuperSaiyanBroly I agree. She's had great character development. The only thing I disliked for her is how she as a person had development, but her bending and fighting did not at all (aside from s1 discovering airbending). She didn't grow her bending at all, nor actually "master" any of the elements the way we see some people who did (Tenzin, dogwalking Zaheer until the others joined - Min Hua and her insane waterbending uses, Kuvira and Su intheir fights..) I expected her to do some crazy feats by the end of the show, but she didn't really so it was a bit of a disappointment. :(
I tell you what, as a character, Korra is most interesting and easy to root for in seasons 3 and 4. This was the story telling for her that I wanted in the first 2 seasons

I hate when people use this fight to "prove" Korra is a bad avatar when she's literally fighting with poison in her body. If anything it's impressive how she was able to fight as she did in that state.
I think the poison was out of her by now but she was still struggling with PTSD and flashbacks. I think this fight was meant to illustrate how she can have all the power in the world but her mind is her worst enemy. She also hasn't fought in a while so there's that too.

@@MarvelAvatarandothersI know it's a cartoon but the way she's focused and countering Korra... Clearly she's a master of her craft. A rival to be reckoned with.
I love how they want to make the elements equal by all means, but seriously the last scene with the tornado, you're telling me no earth bender could've shielded themselves by making a tent or something?? Toph would've been really disappointed 😂😂😂. Also they could've sent a wave of metal plates their way like bullets and with their high speed and narrowness, they would've cut through the tornado like it was nothing. Not all elements are equal, they all have different uses and that's okay. I remember Toph saying Earth bending can take down both of these sissy elements combined (air and water) 😂😂😂
The Narrowness doesn't help, it's a cyclone so the wind makes contact perpendicularly. The flat nature of the metal means it has lots of drag if the wind isn't hitting it directly. They could block the wind affecting soldiers, but the tornado is just a delaying tactic.
I always thought of it like , air binding always catches people off guard because the only time they will ever see it it would be by the avatar which would make it too late to think of counter play
My favorite part is when she starts using air bending and it works. Then proceeded to not use it. Then 2 kids using air bending stopped a whole army from advancing. It is almost like the show need her not to use it so she would lose.🤷
where did you see it working? air did nothing the whole thing. Kuvira just dodged all her attack and overpowered her until she used the avatar state, air bending wasnt the thing that was working, the avatar state's sheer power boost was. Korra also kinda just brute forces herself through the fight while kuvira is kinda thinking things through more like using the metal to throw her around, the earth to change her position and hold her in place etc
@Mango tenzin's chuld and her friend just take her out in one air push and then proceededto stop the whole army. It was 2 children mind you. Then there is when she briefly goes into avatar mode. The main issue is how if she lead with air bending kirra would have had an easier time. She only lost because she got mad after starting to lose.
Remember, perhaps, that Korra is still dealing with heavy PTSD. She's been kidnapped, tortured and poisoned by GALLONS of mercury, leaving her paralyzed for multiple months. The show decided thankfully not to display PTSD as: "oh the poison's out, it's okay" and furthered it with mental health. She isn't able to think straight in this fight. Her body is still traumatized by fights.
kuvira's earthbending style is different from the traditional earthbending. it is much more like airbending. most of her moments are dodging the attacks. She might be an earthbender but she uses the style of airbending.
Perhaps, but it's clear that her (Kuvira's) fighting style is boxing. 100% that is a orthodaox boxing stance and those are classic boxing evades. I can see that as being like a mix of air/earth but idk boxing too me seems more...earthy than it does air.
Let's not forget that Kuvira's main fighting style is metalbending rather than full earthbending. She occasionally spews earthbending, but for the most part she uses just metal.
i dont agree with it. It s more fast than basic earthbending yes, but the philosophy of Kuvira is neutral jing, the basic of earthbending, wait, endure and punish the mistakes of the opponent.
I was thinking the same exact thing. The only way Kuvira would have been stopped if she were killed, along with her army. Aside from that, there was no walking away from a “fair” fight
This fight is a perfect example of, even if you might be more powerful than your opponent, if you lack the exsperience, and all you know how to do is throw a stright forward predictable attack, you will loose, thats why i always told my friends that even aang with only air bending at 12 could of beaten early korra, cuz all she knew at the time was how to throw her elements not move to the flow of them or use them efficiently, she uses every element like its only coming out of her body like simple minded fire benders, just shooting in a stright line, thats why toph and kuvira could so easily bob and weave out of the way of her attacks, its exactly the same as when azula was unstable and zuko knew he could tske her, cuz in her unstable state he knew she would just launch predictable attacks in anger and not be crafty like she usually is, and use her bending to its fullest, kuvira took advantage of korra's mental state and moved the battle to her flow, its almost like she and toph were dancing with korra and they were leading her to move exactly the way they wanted her to.
See at 3:10 Korra could’ve redeemed herself and won the fight. BUT because of her PTSD, she couldn’t. This shows the struggles of trauma and stress to your body, the way you fight, and even the way she thinks. smh.
I know this is a kid’s show and that they can’t be too brutal, but strategically speaking, all an all-powerful being like the Avatar would have to do to end this conflict is bring one of those mountains down on Kuvira’s army. It wouldn’t matter how many earthbenders there are, they couldn’t stop a WHOLE MOUNTAIN from completely coming down on them.
@@brythebest8307 she carries half of a mountain during her fight against Zaheer and that scene she was currently poisoned so just think a scenario were she wasn't dealing in that poisoned she could've do a lot of impressive things by not just carrying a half mountain maybe the whole mountain.
Man, a blast of fire with air bending right behind it would be devastating. Remember what firelord ozai did with his fire blast? An avatar state korra could burn the whole army or at least give them nasty 3rd degree burns. There would be nothing they can do to block it because the air blast pushing the flames can wrap around shields. We see a whole lot of fire being stopped by an earth wall in animated movies but irl any big enough blast of fire would wrap around the wall and give the person ducking behind it a serious burn. Fire also has 1 realistic advantage that is never shown in fiction is heat strokes. 1 blast of fire towards someone could give them a stroke due to the sudden change in temperature and pressure of the immediate atmosphere. This could pop their ear drums (like how it feels when an airplane ascend) or burst arteries (aka a stroke)
I think overall her villains were a lot stronger too. Azula and the fire lord were really strong (zuko towards the end of the series), but after the that it kind of trails off.
Korra lost because of a lot of reasons. She was not ready to face Kuvira at that time, she was not focused, did not have enough training in metal bending, did not work through her mental baggage from going up against the Red Lotus. Kuvira won because she knew her element and owned it (earth/metal bending). It sucked that Korra lost but she learned a valuable lesson from losing to Kuvira. She learned to get her mind right and to stay focused in a major fight and she got over her trauma from the Red Lotus. And when she went up against Kuvira again...she was ready.
The other Avatars were probably embarrassed to watch this, but also felt bad... Aang took the controller from Korra for 10 seconds and brought Kuvira's health down to 1 with those air blasts😭
Technically, she lost the connection to her past Avatars at this point, so they couldn't have exactly done anything here. It's why her Avatar State is more primal-like post-Season 2 versus the voices of all the past Avatars.
Seriously guys the avatar state is the strength of a thousand benders . The fact that she could still even stand after one blast shows how strong kuvira is
@@marngaoyes. people think just because she got the last bits of poison out of her body she would be immediately at her peak again. This series gets a lot of understandable flack especially considering its ending and the needless explanation of the avatars existence but they really deliver with their villains and how the show bendings ups and downs. Amon took away bending and gave a voice to those who couldn’t bend and how they felt about people who could, zahirr and the red lotus were a group who hated the avatar for being such a powerful being, and kuvira is especially interesting because while Korra is the avatar she is a master of none of the elements she bends while we see the opposite in Kuvira who has spent her life earth and metal bending
Some people may not understand that Kuvira is not the main villain of season 4, at least not alone. Korra's trauma was also a great villain. As said by Katara: "the mind can be a powerful allie, but also the greatest enemy". PTSD is her enemy too.
it isnt gone at all, there is still the original martial arts of each bending style in the show. some characters just do what iroh did in the original, incorporate the styles of other nations in their bending. for iroh he incorporated the techniques water benders use in order to redirect lightning, eska and desna look like they incorporate earth techniques into their water bending, and kuvira's fighting really looks kinda light on her feet like airbenders compared to the usual firm and planted stances earthbenders use. Its not even odd since the series take place after a war that kept the nations divided, its end means it was just a matter of time before cultures spread.
Are you kidding? Have you seen how waterbending got in this show? Ming Hua's use of it was insane, and lavabending/metalbending got some pretty nice choreographies. The way Tenzin moves is also cool. I'd add that in this fight Kuvira had boxing/MMA moves, but was also extremely precise and agile.
This is something that a lot of newer Avatar fans always seem to forget. A Bender that has full mastery their over their native element can easily go toe to toe with The Avatar as equals.
Next in line is earth. I want to see a lava-bending Avatar (I don't mean like in Avatar:The Last Airbender where going into the Avatar State could allow one to bend pre-existing lava sources, I mean how Ghazan and Bolin are shown to do it, heating/putting pressure on rock to create and control lava)
Kuvira was fighting a Korra that was physically, mentally and spiritually less than 60% we all know korra at 100% would destroy Kuvira in a moment..she's very strong😅
This is exactly what happens when you challenge someone whose power is beyond anything, something out of this world that humanity can't comprehend. The Avatar themselves don't truly understand the scope or limits of their own powers, and there's someone like Kuvira who confidently challenges them, especially in the Avatar State. This is a state where the Avatar is at their peak, a conduit for cosmic energy, wielding a power that can obliterate an entire army like a gust of wind scattering dust. It's a power that could reshape the very foundations of the world if the Avatar wanted to, a force of nature capable of reshaping the very landscape of the planet.
This fight is a great example of why Korra is so much weaker than Aang. Aang's attacks were far larger/ more powerful, and he carried the original form. Korra just uses kickboxing styles for the most part - so her attacks are just straightforward, weak jabs. Nothing special nor creative about her fighting style.
@@AyamesChronicles Azula was an extremely powerful bender. Aang could not singlehandedly defeat OP benders (Ozai, Azula, Bumi). Korra couldn't either - but she failed to even beat medium power benders solo.

I don’t think that would work on a metal bender. The only person that technique was used on was Varrick, a non-bender, and a scene in ATLA showed earth-benders can easily escape earth shackles, despite their hands being tied, so the same logic would apply to metal benders.

This is what I mean when I say the villains made the show. Kuvira is one of my most favorite characters in the avatar universe
@@josephcruz6616this is a very interesting point
@@josephcruz6616Now explain the difference between power and strength.

As a lover of MMA myself, I love it too. Makes me so happy
It’s the “pro bending” style she got from the tournaments with Mako and Bolin.
not only korra but the fights in genereal in tlok are like this, all the bending styles were reduced to look simple and the movements were reduced to look the same despite the element, korra herself bends all the elements like she is bending fire, and use way more fire than any other element, witch is funny since she was supposed tob e the water avatar
I like how kuviras fighting style is similar to boxing, she’s uses slips and rolls to reduce movement and use of her stamina, she also uses footwork to make her opponent attack and tire themselves
especially combined with Korra’s kickboxing style, it’s like she took pro-bending mma to its limit with 4 elements and superpowers
crazy that symbolic of her not using ANY waterbending is her not playing reactively at all- its all aggression
Missed opportunity for TLOK in hindsight.

her bending skills are so bad.
Give me one time zaheer beat korra in a fair fight
Kuvira was probably shocked bc she knew Korra wasn’t herself

Not that the outcome actually mattered in the end. No way Kuvira would have just packed her things and left, had she lost.
I was thinking the same exact thing. The only way Kuvira would have been stopped if she were killed, along with her army. Aside from that, there was no walking away from a “fair” fight
Exactly. She would have order her army to attack. Had Korra killed Kuvira, it would have made things worse. She would have become martyr.
Kuvira got those Spike Spiegel vibes
See at 3:10 Korra could’ve redeemed herself and won the fight. BUT because of her PTSD, she couldn’t. This shows the struggles of trauma and stress to your body, the way you fight, and even the way she thinks. smh.

I know this is a kid’s show and that they can’t be too brutal, but strategically speaking, all an all-powerful being like the Avatar would have to do to end this conflict is bring one of those mountains down on Kuvira’s army.

I dont like how the martial arts concept is gone they all look like kickboxers
it isnt gone at all, there is still the original martial arts of each bending style in the show. some characters just do what iroh did in the original, incorporate the styles of other nations in their bending. for iroh he incorporated the techniques water benders use in order to redirect lightning, eska and desna look like they incorporate earth techniques into their water bending, and kuvira's fighting really looks kinda light on her feet like airbenders compared to the usual firm and planted stances earthbenders use.
That's still a martial art 💀
You're either blind or clearly don't know what martial arts means
If you look at legend of korra the style of bending has definitely evolved. It’s evolved into quick paced fighting rather than drawn out duels
This is something that a lot of newer Avatar fans always seem to forget. A Bender that has full mastery their over their native element can easily go toe to toe with The Avatar as equals.
thanks for not youtube kidsing this
Best episode 😊
Kuvira reminds me of Count Dooku here, while Korra reminds me a little bit of Anakin.
Kuvira is moving like Bruce Lee lol
This makes me wanna see an avatar that knows metal bending and all the other sub genres of bending.
Airbenders are very powerful, it only takes just 3 airbender kids to give a whole army of earthbenders/metalbenders some trouble.
They should have stayed longer to see what will happen. They did that just to slow them down
Kuvira was fighting a Korra that was physically, mentally and spiritually less than 60% we all know korra at 100% would destroy Kuvira in a moment..she's very strong😅
Bc she is the avatar😭 that isn’t even fair tbh
How you go into the Avatar State and still lose
PTSD
PTSD bro watches fights with his eyes closed
Because she’s the weakest Avatar to ever live
She had her soul ripped out, and she shrugged that off, so no.
he got a point@@I_love_kitten_
How'd that work out against Azula?
@@AyamesChronicles Azula was an extremely powerful bender. Aang could not singlehandedly defeat OP benders (Ozai, Azula, Bumi). Korra couldn't either - but she failed to even beat medium power benders solo.
@@trumpatierthe avatar state is bassically the only reason why the avatar would win against villains like Azula and Kuvira.
Aang wouldn’t win either of those 2 either bc Kuvira is way to quick and to fast.
Same goes for Azula and the reason Azula lost against Katara is bc Water > fire > earth >=< air
Kuviras boxing go
Dumb😭
Any bender with logic would just bend her armour around her tight haha
I don’t think that would work on a metal bender. The only person that technique was used on was Varrick, a non-bender, and a scene in ATLA showed earth-benders can easily escape earth shackles, despite their hands being tied, so the same logic would apply to metal benders.
Metal bending is a bit more specialised, easier said than done.
Korra is a jack of all trades master of none. While Kuvira is a master of one
