He would’ve been amazing. You’ve seen him go crazy. The Beach, Wolf of Wallstreet, The Aviator, Shutter Island, etc. He plays “off” well. He just always plays a sympathetic protagonist. Not his limitation, really.
Leo has no range
I'm not saying Leo is not a good actor but the only character imo I think he played one that close enough to resemble a broken man was The Revenant. I feel like other characters he played in a way has a certain "quirks" that makes you go oh that's classic Leo character. Like gatsby, wall street, inception, catch me if you can, once upon a time in Hollywood even shutter island. But Phoenix used to play a broken man e.g Johnny Cash in Walk the line, The master, you were never really here, her and even everyone believed he was out of his mind with I'm still here.

They didn't really reveal anything the world didn't already know. I've read all this stuff over the years starting in the River days. The only thing that was mildly revelatory perhaps for newer fans was the sex angle of the "church" they belonged to back then. But even that has been in articles recently as 2 years ago.

To be honest, watching this I also forgot his brother River. I didn't really know much about River until I saw him in Indiana Jones 3 , and thought he was great, but that's all and about his unfortunate death, I never saw Stand By Me or any other film or TV he may have been in and knew nothing about Joaquin until I saw him in The Gladiator and Signs film.

Plus the director of the titanic said river was they’re first pic for the film until he dies of course.

An absolutely fantastic actor. As good as he was in “Joker,” his performance in “The Master,” was one for the ages. Just incredible. His life has not been easy and full of tragedy. I love his protection of animals - his acceptance speech for ‘Joker” was absolutely superb. Glad he has a lovely lady who loves him in his life. Truly an inspiration!

With him being a method actor who put himself in harms way now playing Joker, who was a piece of the puzzle in Heaths death, is at the very least concerning. I'm excited for the movie but I hope he's keeping his mental health in mind.

Although I think this video gives some good inside, I don’t think it tells enough about the impact Rivers death had on him. River was the rock of the family, and the leader and role model for his younger siblings. Joaquin can only now talk about him (shortly). And their sister, Rain, has only now gotten so far in the healing process that she has accepted it, and now been able to make an album in Rivers honor. It is truly a heartbreaking story.
On another note, I wish the people would take down the leaked audio of Joaquin’s 911 call!! It is beyond disrespectful that it’s still out there!!

Just finished watching Joker. Joaquin is by far the most amazing acting talent of this century! The performance in Joker wasn't an easy task. I wasn't famous, but was a child actor and it alters your life forever. To transition from youth to adult talent is remarkable. Hoping to see Mr. Phoenix taking home an Oscar. It will be nothing by well deserved.

I dont really understand why people see acting as a competition. Different movies, different scripts, different directors, different artistic direction. While the character maybe the same everything else is different. Each performance can stand on its own without the need to diminish the others.
His performances in "Her" and "Walk the Line" are beyond belief, IMHO. I'd rate his talent among the best. Can't help but wonder how the bizarre childhood impacted the 2 brothers in terms of their acting abilities. Seems like their personalities developed much flexibility.
