Dude, I love how you superimpose the kicks in the bottom corner, that's fantastic. Nice breakdowns of each beat, I just got my first double kick to play with a metal band after 2 decades of single kick triplets for punk rock bands. Loving it so far.
I’have recently come across your channel… Love it. As a completely blind drummer I’ve got to say you do a really good job of explaining things and even though I can’t see what you’re doing most things you’re playing I can figure out because of how you explain them thanks a lot keep it up
How times change... I remember when it was an absolute "no-no" hitting the snare and kick at the same time except for an ending shot, that's what my late drum teacher said, but it was 30 years ago. I think that you are an excellent drummer, almost next level. Thumbs up!
I think the best piece of advice in the video is to start sloooooowly. I'm mean, it's ok to go ridiculously slow at the beginning to really understand where each hit is occurring. It takes months, even years, to go to fast tempi.
Ive been a professional country drummer for almost 28 years and specialist in fast train beat brush playing and found this amazing although not my personal style. you're amazing sir
I really do think the "pussy blast" sounds great when used right. On slower, stompier riffs it let's the kick and snare keep up the speed but the slower cymbal work slows the feel down.
I love how you make the bass and snare alternating look so easy haha...It doesn't look hard to most but it really is difficult to alternate between your L hand and R leg.
Hey Samus! Im not a drummer per-se (I'm multi-instrumental but I haven't been regularly around a drum kit in eons) but as someone who often listens to and analyzes drum parts for my own recordings (I end up programming them) this was a great source of information for future drum writing. Thank you!
Got a couple questions if possible: What kind of hand technique do you use? German or American grip and do you use your hip flexors for fast double bass?
ImDeadLlama honestly just practicing the grav blast for like a month and it’s like down. Attempt to do it for like 10 minutes everyday and you’ll eventually get it. At the beginning it’s mostly about what you can do physically and physically getting the form down. Once you get that then you start trying to master triplets sixeteenth notes and changing up rythm with it.
The Erratic Drummer yes, doing it like as fast as you can is something worth a day while getting do go right to other rythms and stuff like that is a bit hardwr

It helps not only beginners. I use to play drums for a long time but was more into rock, prog or thrash metal. Wasn't doing blast beats at all. I recently got more into death and black metal so this video is very usefull. Thanks for the lesson!
One tip that helped me with the traditional blast massively I got from Jason Bittner: Forget the cymbals for a bit and just blast a regular single stroke roll with the both hands on the snare, work on adding the bass drum under that until you can do that cleanly, and then simply move your cymbal hand over to your preferred cymbal. Start off with just the snare and kicks, go at a comfortable speed, and then without stopping just move that hand over to the cymbal. If it starts to get loose just move that hand right back to the snare and get back to clean and tight, then just switch back and forth as you need to. Think of a traditional blast as a single stroke roll on the hands between a snare and cymbal (or whatever, get creative) Learning this made it click for me anyway, made a biiig jump in my blast beats that day. Happy blasting!
Hey, @Samus! It's me from 2022, and we'd love to see more of these lesson videos, please! Even dealing with other instruments and how the drum interacts with the rest of the band musically.
I watched this now, not because I play drums, but because I want to write my own songs and need ideas for programming patterns, so thank you for the information, it was actually really helpful 🤘🔨
Another way you can look at it (GK explains it this way) is the traditional is a 16th note roll between kick and snare, with the right hand playing 8ths in unison with the kick.
