I put that on my 20 6.7 except mine is the aluminum color. Had mine on for about 35000 miles doing hotshot trucking with it. It most definitely makes a difference in the tranny Temps. It stays much cooler. Never have got the Trans Temps up above 225 even with 30k lbs pulling up the steep grades in the west. I love it!
Thanks for the feedback. I notice towing our 30 ft Airsteam them trans temps can get scary hot
That’s still stock temp. 8qts additional fluid without a fluid circulation increase has potential for holding heat instead of offing it.
@@garlandmeredith2039I think that’s a good trade off considering that he’s pulling 30k pounds up steep grades and not going over stock temps.
@@garlandmeredith2039aluminum dissipates heat very efficiently especially with internal and external fins with all that cooling air rushing by underneath the truck.
The stock pan is plastic which is a great insulator as far as holding in heat, exactly what you don’t want.
My understanding is that the transmission is designed to run at 205F and that is regulated by the transmission heat exchanger just in front of the pan.
Installed a PPE cover on my 19 F150, 5.0L. Started in my garage, when I figured out I had to jack up the trans, I went to b plan B. Took it to my local guy. Still worth every penny, I can’t get past the plastic pan.
Excellent!! I've been asking for the "how to" for a long time and now it is here! Trans fluid change is coming! An extra 8 quarts! WOW!
Thank you for another informative video. Adding this to the list! The Mod Father continues to deliver great content. Thank you!
😝😝😝😉😉💪💪
Definately doing to my ranger when I hit 100k miles
Just finished my trans pan swap and transmission flush thanks for the vid Arod!!
Fords easily the best trucks out there . Your not beating these newer 6.7s absolutely love em and thats coming from someone who's owned one of the big three at some point .
Coming from a tech who is committed to knowing the product to the best of his ability can say that hands down best rigs on the road💪🙌
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod you da man ARod keep doing your thing buddy! Love the videos!
One word CP4 !
Everyone suffered from cp4 failure it wasn't just ford . I do give dodge credit for going back to the cp3. Also I kinda feel that the cp4 bs is kinda overhyped because of dummies putting def or gasoline in their fuel tank . But either way this problem wouldn't stop me from buying ford 🤷♂️
Serviced mine at 27340 miles, definitely doin it the PTT way 🤘. Pretty happy my 6R has a dip stick, pretty bogus they did away with them
Yeah, If they're going to go that friggin cheap about it, put a damn level sensor in it.
Great video appreciate the content and support man definitely different then the 10r80 with the plastic dipstick I just changed the fluid only with a pan drop next time I’ll going to suck it out immediately tell the difference to started shifting smoother !
I change my filter and do a full flush, to change all the fluid, not just the half that is in the trans every 30,000. When i switched from the factory fill Motorcraft ULV to Amsoil LV ATF, my trans temp when down 10 degrees and the shift feel is much better.
Agree, so much better!!
How do you flush all the old fluid out?
@jasonwhitson4010 drain and fill baby, I'm not a fan of flush machines but others will disagree
Total honesty flatbed tow truck 20/20 model 7.3 gas 10r140 trans has 175,000 miles on it transmission still running strong after two services minus a hard shift into sixth gear
How many miles now still running good?
Thanks for showing us how it’s done ARod. The PPE pan looks great. I like the practical difference of keeping the tranny cooler. Reasonable price for this quality. Since I’ll be DIYing this, I’ll need to find a fluid transfer pump to get it filled from under the motor.
You the man👍🏻 keep up the good work, love your channel, but my bank account doesn't agree with me after every upgrade.
I,did the pan and filter upgrade on my 2005 F350 DRW With The pan and much improved FT180 Filter from the switch to The 6.4l and you can also eliminate The bypass filter, the small roll of toilet paper, you have to get that pan as it's a little deeper to allow for the new full flow filter. No more rock catcher as the 6.0 Trans filter was referred to.
Excellent work and commentary there Dr Arod! Question, does the trans get to temp while just idling?
Thx as always 💪🏼💪🏼
I’m going to need to file for chapter 11 if I keep watching your videos. 😂
Been wanting to install their pan since they released it and now I’m considering the oil pan too. Just need to find that money tree. 😂
Much better than the F150 trans pan. I never got around to doing it on my F150 because of how much of a pain it was to remove and fill. Glad they got rid of the stupid little plastic dipstick and exhaust running under the pan on the superduties.
😂🫂😂
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod how much is the fluid per quart? Amsoil is $15.37 per quart. So another $300~ for the fluid. Gonna have to refinance. 😂
Lolol
I would get a pole jack with a block of wood with a rag on top to hold the pan going back together, because pulling the threads out of the transmission case sucks.
Nice video as always! I’de like to see some test if this thing actually has any cooling effect. Have you noticed any knocking noises on the 10R140’s. Mine has made a knocking noise since day one that comes and goes. My truck was built 11/21. Thanks and keep up the awesome work. As a former mechanic, it’s always nice to see someone that takes pride in doing things the right way!
Thank you sir. Knocking noises...only coupled to the 7.3 zilla not the PSD
Mine is a 7.3. She’s gone to the dealer at 9k miles and they said they have no idea. Just hope I don’t have one of the leftover 2020 transmission that had the torque converter problem? 🙏
Normal, all of em do it. I replaced an entire assembly to only have the same thing sound-wise, occur. Normal noise acoustics/ characteristics of the 7.3 & 10R140. FYI that PPE pan is only for 6.7....
🙏👍
Great video…. Can’t wait to put mine on. I have both the oil and trans pan ready to go on when it’s time to change my oil….👍🏼
What a great and helpful video! I like the pan. Cooling fins and a drain plug. Why can’t the manufacturer’s put in drain plugs? So much less messy.
I’m wondering what part of the country your in because I would definitely bring my truck to you it’s refreshing seeing how enthusiastic you are about these trucks!!!
Deeeetroit
Can't wait to get my F-350 6.7. Build week is Sept 5th... Looonnnggg wait. Coming from a 2004 Ram 1500 🤣🤣She only saw 1 year of salt in Detroit and AZ/FL since, so it lasted. The new truck will be a beast and since I enjoy working on my vehicles, your videos will be super helpful!!
Thanks pal
Just to add to arods awesome video a stock pan 10r140 holds a total of 18.1 qts of ULV fluid so if you add this pan it increases to a total of 26.1 qts of fluid that’s insane
I always put down a big blue tarp before oil or trans fluid changes…….when I used to do them. Now that my back is screwed up I take it in to have it done.
Great video. The pan looks awesome. Being able to use the factory bolts and gasket is a nice touch. Makes future services easier. That pump jug is cool. Saves time.
Great video, nice to see the fill procedure IRL.
best video on trans service really helpful cheers
On my car I just change mine every 30k or about every 3ish years with the trans pan gasket and trans filter. Go back together with Mercon V fluid and Motorcraft filter. And I use the left over fluid to flush the power steering since its the same fluid on my old Crown Vic. I don't trust anyone else to do my transmission fluid service. Most cause I mess up my trans case threads for the pan bolts. 2 bolts are sort of stripped and I put in some standard bolts that at least thread into the case, those 2 bolts must go back into the same hole. Also on my old car it has a torque converter drain bolt so I can drain about another 8 quarts.
Brother, I always appreciate your educational videos! Thank you and keep up the excellence!
🙏💪🙏💪🙏
Nice video. I recommend if available to suck out as much fluid as possible before loosing the pan . Will make the job less messier. I agree with the 30,000ish mile fluid and filter change. I wonder if the person who owns this truck would mine reporting back with there thoughts on this pan.
Customer loves it. Has been towing like a mad man...says fluid around 220
Nice and yes these 10 speed transmissions are meant to run warmer anyway
Ford power train engineers should have made the 1/2 ton 10 speed (10R80) pans this easy to remove and replace. Much better design on the Super Duty's placement of the crossmember.
Awesome video & ppe pan!!!😉...How much money did Ford save deleting the trans dip stick & drain plug???🧐...(hell the techs and/ or customer don't need them)🥴...later my man & have a GREAT WEEKEND!!👍💪💯
This is what I have been waiting for!! Gonna have to wait until the trans gets fixed though😒
I didn't see where you lowered the pickup to circulate those extra 8 quarts. Isn't that necessary to keep the extra fluid moving throughout the transmission?
Honestly if you wanna run cooler temps, Misimoto Trans Cooler, put mine on last weekend and pulled the same grade with 12k, before I was 228 by the time i got to the top, after the install i was at 207. I used to have a engine and tranny temp run close together now I have a true 14 degrees difference, I'm 180 trans/194 engine running empty at 70. Before the trans was 190 empty and the best thing you only add 2 quarts more
Awesome products for my Super truck! Thanks Arod! 👊
I don't understand why some of their pans have a place where you can bolt down the magnet from the stock pan to the new one but I noticed this one has no place for a magnet. I really like the job of that magnet. I guess one could go out and find a magnetic drain plug for it and that'll fix that.
The plug is a magnet
I try to avoid making a mess by using an evacuation pump to suck a significant amount of fluid out of the tranny before I drop the pan. I get it started and then go off to do something else while vacuum does its thing.
Yepp
Thank you for the videos, they are amazing.!!!! im in the market for a 2024 or when they come out with 2025 F350 HO 6.7 And wanting to add this transmission pan and oil pan. my question is what is the total quarts for the transmission is it 20 total. thank you for answering my questions when you have time i appreciate it.
Yes with pan
Nice to see that you take pride in your work!!! I have a 22 f350 with the 7.3 godzilla, and i sometimes get hard shifts. It only has 16000 miles on it. Would you recommend a service or is a reprogram the fix? Really liking the extra pain size!! Excellent how to video!!!
Read them comments pal, it compatible with the gassers
I am about to do this job, thanks for making this video. Super helpful!
Just in time as usual! I’m about to do a pan drop and fluid change
Another benefit is aluminum won’t break down (crack) over time as plastic parts do.
Good video, only criticism i have is when you were putting the trans filter bolts in you impacted them pretty hard. Torque spec is only 94 in lb and 106 in lb (for stud bolts). You can damage that trans if you go too hard because aluminum is soft but otherwise good vid
Knowledge is key...i know my tools brother.....not saying im right.....you wanna put heads on....yes you torque em. Fuel injector hold downs yes you torque em. This kinda stuff, all feel baby no need to bust out the torque wrench. Thanks for watchin.
I feel that man, It’s all preference and for some of these smaller bolts on aluminum I just prefer hand and torque! Appreciate the response!
I appppreciate you keepin' it real 😎🤝🤝
Dude, I was thinking the exact same thing! Thank you for the torque spec brother! Do you know the torque specs for the filter? Thanks in advance.
Put a forma funnel on the trans cross memeber, a lot less mess
I want that and the oil pan... come on PPE, give us a PTT discount code 🙏
16qts with the Ppe pan at running temp 185 degrees on trans
Just did 1 yesterday. Used 18
Hey man love your channel helps me out a bunch. What do you think about drilling a small hole the plastic pan to drain since your not reusing it. Getting ready to do this to my 22
You could, but it's really not that big of a deal
I use a remote spin-on filter WIX 57701, I'd like to use a fluid pickup instead of the filter.
Got one on my 2016 ford f 250 why don’t you use the new bolts that came with the new pan
My 450 Platinum comes in any day now on estimated delivery schedule so I can’t wait! 20 quarts though, my goodness 😅🙃
That's $150 for the fluid, those days of the 4 dollar qts are long gone
Been waiting for this 🙌
Looks great but wish they had a flat spot in the fins for a pan heater. Even trans fluid needs some warmth at -30.
Put it on the sides of the pan. Pan is all the way full anyways. 🤷🏼♂️
So you set the final level with the trans temp at 158f. The sticker says the temp should be higher at 180-215f for final level setting. What am I missing?
I have been checking it here and it has been juss fine.
Thanks Arod. Another great video. Looks like a nice casting, but comes at a bit of a steep price. Thou I suppose it’s cheaper than an early failure on a trans. Where’d or how did you make the nifty pump jug? Oh… can I use just one of the 13mm studs to hold the wire loom? Or does the flange on the new PPE pan interfere with the stud flange? Not sure why you didn’t use one stud there
U cld...i didnt want a studly do right therr. I went hf for the pump
How often should these transmissions be serviced? Thanks for the info!
Mine schedule is every 30k
Where can I get a pump like yours
HF
Didn't catch if you mentioned extra clearance on the larger pan. I tow a fairly heavy travel trailer and I'm excited about the idea of a cooler running transmission ('22 super duty with tow package).
Thanks!
Extra clearance for....?
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod sorry I meant how much lower than factory does the new pan sit. 8 quarts would take up extra space.
Not enough to have anything to worry about, i can tell u that
Nice job I thought Ford was going Tundra w/o a dip stick...what about the heat shield.
30k miles. Filter change. Amsoil fluid
Done!
That's a sweet pan!
Great video
Love your channel but rarely see you use a torque wrench. I knew some mechs that could almost torque to the exact torque but having countless ford’s, they do have bolts that’ll break easily.
An acquired feell brotha.
Exhaust heat shield go back on?
Looks like another Thousand bucks, Lol. Nice video as always.
That should make it last longer and keep it a lot cooler!
When Putting on a Deeeper Trans Pan Do You Need To Lower The Filter Deeper Into Pan, Extend Filter At All
No
I"m about to do this to my 22! Quick questions:
1. Hope many quarts did you end up putting back in? Trying to figure out how many quarts I should buy.
2. Can I just use the bolts that come from PPE to reinstall the pan? Do I need the factory bolts for the heat shield? Trying to figure out if I absolutely need to buy the extra bolts too.
If i were you, Id re watch that video & do EXACTLY as you saw.
I plan too. But I was wanting to get an idea on how many quarts you used so I make sure I have enough. And I guess the heat shield doesn’t get reused? Is that why you used the other bolts? I couldn’t tell from the video why you had to buy extra bolts. Thanks.
2017 80,000 miles
Did this last week but with one hiccup... One bolt snapped (ugh)
Considering this pan for 2022 F-350 dually with 6.7 as way to lower trans fluid temp. Seems to peak at 212F with no load at 75mph on flat highway with 60F ambient outside. Is 212F temp too high? Will pan lower that temp to below 200F? Maybe I am over-thinking. Another great vid, Arod. Thanks much.
212 is nothin! Keep rollin good buddy🫡
I have a 20 f350 and my Temps hauling 28k and trans Temps never go above 202. 212 isn't terrible so you should be good
I just did this install last night. I initially put in 15 quarts and let the truck warm to 156°. Checked level and had to add another 3 quarts. Then I took it on a short drive and checked again. At that point some fluid flowed out of the hole, so I let it drip/flow until it stopped.
Were those the right steps to rake to make sure I have the correct fluid level?
A1 buddy!!!!
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I don't have my ARod decoder ring on... Does "A1" mean I did the right thing or are you saying to add a quart?
Pardon the ignorance!
@jasonwhitson4010 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 drink your Ovaltine
Sorry buddy, I had too....yeah you are good to go. That exactly what I wound up having to do to this truck as well.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod well shoot! I decided to check the level again this morning after last night's drive and quite a bit of fluid came pouring out of the fill hole. Now I'm confused. Is that fill hole the only way to determine if it's full or over full?
Ambulance Duty - 50K changes using Schaffer's.
Didn't realize the days of the tranny fluid dipstick was gone too. Does the extra fluid capacity really serve a function? Or is it just that greater cooling area cooling more fluid? I mean it's still the same surface area. Doesn't really compute with me. You're still running through a cooler in the front. Seems to me that the same pan, just a little bit larger to clear the inner fins would work the same?
Why not use Amsoil LV Blue label ATF (Order code: ATL) (Mercon LV approved) or Valvoline Full Synthetic Mercon LV? Ford Mercon LV is not Synthetic. You could easily flush the trans and use a better fluid.
Thought it only holds 16 qts ..? You said you put 20 in?
In your SD maintenance schedule vid(white board) you mentioned trans fluid change @ 60K, now you are saying 30K. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance Paul (Scrolled through comments so hopefully I didn't miss it.)
Yepp drain & fill every 30k
Unless I am missing something what is the filter part number ? Thanks bro
I showed ya in the video
My 2019 SD 6.7 has the 6 speed transmission…does PPE make a up grade pan for mine? And is the MerconLV okay as replacement fluid? Thanks for everything. 👌🇺🇸
Yes LV! Check the PPE link out...they HAVE so many great Ford parts.
Just ordered the pan. I want to do the oil pan next then the rear diff cover. You have a link to the oil pan video?
Already up player. Week late 😎😉
Hi Arod, GREAT DETAILED VID and INFO. I'm about to install a PPE Pan on my 2018 Mustang gt with the 10R80. Q: Are the TORQUE specs for the Bolts and Studs on this Pan the same as OEM? Your feedback will be appreciated.
Yah. Tighten them then go back around & make sure they're snugged
Should we avoid the 10R140? I’m in need of a new truck but I wanted a 3/4 ton WITH solid axles vs IFS. That limits me to dodge and ford.
We love ours! Dont beleive everything you read on them forums
Question for you before I install mine. Are you worried about not being able to put the magnet disc in the PPE pan from the stock pan?
Their drain plug is!
I just wasnt sure if it was enough. But you saying it is, is enough confirmation for me. Thanks!
Awesome product! Thank you for the video. Question - is there a way to do a complete flush on a super duty transmission flying solo?
Not with outba machine
I can live with this. Do you have a machine you can recommend?@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
I do not use them
Are those transmission filter bolts also Valve Body bolts? Would want to make sure they were close to the same torque going back in.
97 inch lbs and they go thru the main control to bolt it to the case there are 13 bolts total that bolt the main control to the case
Where is that oil pan made?
I just rewatched the video what’s your take on using Amsoil ATF in place of Mercon LV ? Thank you
We use it all the time. Been working real nice. Lil expensive but really good fluid
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod fantastic I will be using this in my F250 Tremor
Do you have a video on the gas truck 7.3 250 with 10r140, I bought the PPE deep pan but it looks like it won’t work because of the exhaust
Correct, read the comments
How much less road clearance does use of the PPE larger oil pan result in. Is there a factory skid plate that protects the stock transmission? if so, can it be re-ued with the bigger PPE pan?
Lastly, where is the factory transmission temp sending unit. The PPE pan has a blank (or pre-threaded?) plug provision for a supplemental trans temp gauge. I assume that's overkill and the factory trans temp should still provide accurate readings? Nice job.
Did u watch the video brotha
I have a new super duty. I’m in Michigan. How much for you to do this exact thing for my truck? I’d but the pan and everything. Can you give me a rough estimate? Thank you. Great videos
You'll have 2 email me bub, we dont talk $$$ here
Powerstroketechtalkwarod@gmail.com
Hey brother, I'm about do the filter and fluid change for my 6r140. Going to buy the PPE pan that adds 7 quarts, only problem is that I can't seem to get a straight answer as to how many OA quarts I'll need. Some say between 14 and 24. Can you give a brother a hand.
I'd start with 15 qts
Thank you very much. Plain and simple the way it should be lol
Did you wipe down and return magnet to inside upgraded pan? 😕 Is upgraded pan not fit with magnet? 😟
No, their bolt is a magnet
Sweet cover
Could you possibly tell me the Allen wrench size? I don't have one big enough and want to make sure I get the right one 👍
Gosh I can't remember
dam it looks very nice
Just put my Pusher hot and cold side pipes on today and now this lol. I would probably benefit from this plowing. BTW my local dealer said that my 19 F350 (6 speed) the tranny oil didnt need replaced until 100k miles, is that right?
No fluid is a 100k. Theyll tell ya 30k on fuel fitlers too 🤦♂️
Thanks!
I understand the benefits of servicing your trans a little earlier that what Ford recommends, but the manual says 150K. Is every 30k excessive? My truck is at 60k and I have not serviced it yet. I definitely do NOT plan going 150K, but was thinking of doing it soon. Thats what brought me to this video. Has anyone done an oil analysis to justify spending the money.
Chump change compared what its gonna take to repair that thing bruh
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod your right but how far do you take it? With this same logic we should all be doing 2k mile oil changes. 30k is 5 times the manufactured recommendation. So with a 10k mile oil change recommendation from does, we should be doing. 2k mile change. We know that’s not needed because I believe there has been oil analysis completed to prove its not necessary. Has anyone done this with trans fluid? Or maybe trans fluid doesn’t work that way? These are just questions that I have. Should we be doing diff amd transfer case changes every 30k? Those are all very expensive to replace as well and are relatively inexpensive to service yet I don’t think anyone is doing diff service that often.
Brother, watch our maint white board video....
Do you have the part number for the transmission filter seal? Mine is damaged
Not off hand, sry
Can you make a video of this with the OEM pan?
Its the same procedure
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I’m just confused on exactly how much fluid to add because there’s no dip stick. So sakes a differential? Just fill till it starts to drip out?
Yes sir. Must check at operating temp tho
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks for the reply dude I appreciate all you do
Only takes a few thousand dollars to make these reliable lol 😝
Forget about that. How bout losing SEVERAL thousands sitting at dealers lot for over a month waiting to get looked. No "loaner" offered till diagnosed either.
Anyhow, gl
Not really I have 2020 f450 285,000 mils no modifications to transmission
