  • The future is here in the form of Zildjian's Gen16 Cymbals and it's like magic! Not only do these cymbals offer an 80% reduction in volume for low volume gigs and practices, but you can hook up pickups and EQ them from the controller unit giving you the benefit of electric cymbals without the need for rubber triggers.

    Great ideas here! The sound texturing saves on getting additional cymbals for different songs. Saving on microphones (& stands) and keeping bleed through out of other musicians' mics & feedback down is the cherry on top.

    Zildjian are still pushing these things as e-cymbals? I can absolutely see the benefit of using them for quiet practise if you don't have a soundproof room, but when it comes to sound they're pretty awful. I'd rather use trigger pads with a good software library.

    Im just learning about these. For the nonpro, I think the sound and the adjustment capabilities are great. Having the feel of a real cymbal instead of a pad is terrific for the guy playing at home who needs to keep the volumes down.

    That China cymbal needs work... Kind of an Ice Pick in the Forehead. I was using Smart Trigger cymbals (bad glue dripping problem) I like the idea of the cymbal being picked up rather triggering a CV. The choke capabilities alone make these highly desirable.

    Why do I watch Andertons videos about stuff I know nothing about and am not interested in??? They must be doing something right.

    - Dear Andertons,Thank you for providing this video - it was very helpful for me - much appreciated!
    Will you please tell me about the Yamaha kit Simon was playing in the video? I look forward to your answer - thanks!
    PAPA’S Blessings on you and all of yours!!

    good idea but the pickup sound is really tinny...reminds me of a soup can. i would have liked to hear what a whole kit sounds like with overhead mics too.

    As a bass guitarist and non-drummer, the idea for these is really great, on-the-fly EQ is something I'm not really aware of for 'real' drums. But whether or not they're worth it, or as good as a proper kit, well I'm not really qualified.

    It's good that they try to innovate, but this still sounds horrible. Would suite well to St. Anger though.

    What is the software and how can I get it?

  • @yochanman
    @yochanman 3 роки тому

    Can anyone answer this? Are you able to run a china cymbal on say the ride channel? Or would the ride channel only have ride sounding presets?

    Why not make them sample triggers too?

      JAZZ Seriously...

    • @blankspace0000
      @blankspace0000 7 років тому +5

      Yeah. Wouldn't that be perfect? Imagine being able to capture an acoustic cymbal performance and a midi one at the same time. Would make layering samples an absolute breeze.

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 7 років тому +2

      Exactly, even more since they just sound like crap... the only interest for me would be to use them as triggers for samples. At this point, it's just useless for me...

    Why you aren't using the G16 hats? Seriously, 14" G16 hats mentioned in the header but those are ZKs you are playing in the vid...

    Did you drill a hole in the bell of that Zildjian ride?

      @JasonWelchMusic 3 роки тому

      Yes. In a different video he mentioned having to drill a tiny hole to make it work.

    I BEG YOU...PLEASE! PLEASE!
    I request a video like this using ONLY regular B20 cymbals.
    Im using internal drum triggers with mesh heads and real cymbals. (Basement studio/cool neighbors/noise is not an issue).
    Id love to hear them in a 90s country mix. A 90s rock mix, a funk mix, and a jazz mix.
    (I'm asking a lot,...l know,... but it never hurts to try.)
    Something like this would be epic, if I can get the warmth of my A customs to come through. Im not a fan of high pitch cymbal mixes. Sound guys hate me.

    Actually this is the first time I've seen anyone able to make these things sound better than complete crap. Almost makes me wanna try some.... almost.. haha.

    Zildjian should have used their best of the best sounds from all of their cymbals. That would have been way more interesting than these electronic ultra sharp-metallic sounds. As other said, the best professional use you can do with them is to use a vst and play with better and more realistic sounds.

  • @Smart75

    Something happened while recording this video. I've heard these cymbals before, and they don't sound like this. Zildjan would NEVER put something like this on the market.

      I recently bought a 14" k Hihat and it's the best sounding Hats I've ever heard,
      I'd never come to the idea of replacing it with some drilled in cymbals.
      Fuck my Neighbors, if you don't likem my drums move to an other neighbourhood.
      I'd never choose electric over accoustic drums
