Mangini is the only drummer who could possibly replace Portnoy. I still hate the fact that Portnoy is out of the band, but D.T. made the right decision with Mangini as a replacement. He's always been one of my personal drumming gods.
I think i may get a box set, and some of the Remo silent stroke heads and do what i can finally end up doing.. Play the shit out of my kit while rehearsing and practicing at home, without bothering anyone, or destroying my hearing..

I used to go over a friend's house to jam and they had a 4 piece kit with hi hat crash and ride. I preferred that as it forced me to be more creative rather than just doing big fills every 4 bars. Plus Mangini probably has loads of Sponsors so doesn't have to buy new stuff every time it breaks. Which is another reason...

Edrums also works for muting the sound if you are in close places. and like i say in the final sentence "the principal function is electronic sound"
