Overall impressed with the advancements on the module to run it. I currently run a TD-17 through Ezdrummer3. It's deff nice to see a module that could be a standalone.
I will use both. While I love acoustic drums, for a really good mix at smaller clubs and being able to play at a relaxed volume these are great. Plus I can replicate the recorded drum sound.
I use a 2box drumit 5 for both studio and stage. Not the friendliest module to use. I will say this alesis has me thinking.
New Alesis kit? AND Nick D'Virgilio? What a way to start my day!
As someone who uses the strike pro SE I have GOT to get me one of these! It looks like it fixed the few problems the strike pro se has and then added so much to it! I’m excited for alesis
Wow, Alesis really stepped it up! Everything about this is impressive, with great sounds by BFD, good looking shell wrap and lugs, sturdy hardware, large drum sizes, and a nice, big touch screen interface! Also, I always love to hear Nick D'Virgilio's playing and comprehensive overviews!
Yup! I love Nick’s demos.
Very impressive! You certainly know what you’re doing with this kit Nick. Precise, to the point, no umming & ahhring, excellent explanation on the features and sounds. Also a good length video with a ton of information about how good Alesis have made their gear. I always look forward to your videos and thoughts on electronic drums. I was an 80’s Simmons player years ago, so this type of video shows me how far electronic drums have progressed. Well done to you for your expertise!
Hopefully the new module will be sold separately and is compatible with the Strike Pro SE's module.
that's what I'm hoping as well
Same 🤞
I like the fact its got shallower shells, but keeps a decent size kick drum.
My only concern is with that floppy hi hat!
If you can use a different hi hat and buy the module separately, i will be very tempted.
wow, the samples are incredible! usually you need to get a separate software for good samples, but this is insanely good right out the gate
I think it has BFD in the module.
yeah, getting a seperate sampling company is definitely the right move@@DavidOakesMusic
@@DavidOakesMusicnow that you point it out, that makes a lot of sense
Still Not as good as ezdrummer or addictive but its the only module in my opinion that passes the "real sounding drums" test. You can easily load vst drums into the kit though for even better sounding drums.
@@RobRuffMusic thanks, Rob! Yes, I agree and I think I might do that if I get an electric kit
The sound is brilliant, my concern is with the triggering sensitivity, dynamic range, longevity, and latency of the module. The Strike Pro was bloody awful in that regard 😂
Yeah Strike Pro and before was one era of Alesis. They then went through team changes and the new regime is what brought us the Strike Pro Se, which I own and still love.
I have the strike pro SE and it is amazing for me. I use it for live streams all the time
3.5k longevity ☠️😶
Alesis fixed and loading lag and latency with a firmware update years ago with the strike pro...
@@TheGhostNotePodcastyeah man, easily my favorite Alesis kit. One year on and I’m still bangin’ on it lol
Now that's a drum demo done right. Thanks Nick, for putting sales first and not your drumming ability. We already know you're a badazz drummer. I need to hear what the kit can do and I need to hear different important grooves that I'd be playing. You played some really cool sounds the kit has and you showed how versatile and sensitive the kit can be. Great job and rock on!
As for this kit, I need to know how much better it is then the previous version. What made the previous version so well-worth the money, aside from all the samples and drum sounds, is the ability to upload and use your own sounds. I can't do that with my TD-30, which is a crying shame since the TD-30 cost thousands more. Thanks again!
Well that doesn't sound bad at all.
The module looks like a huge leap for alesis. Reminds me of the mimic in the layout. But the added knobs will speed up the process.
Looks amazing. Unfortunately my main concern with Alesis is how it's going to hold up in a year. If I didn't have to worry about that, I'd be all over it.
That's also been my concern for their products. Yes, they seem nice and affordable, but how long will they hold up compared to if I invested in Roland or another brand?
I’m just gonna echo that the Strike Pro SE has served me super- well
I have the command mesh kit and it still works just as good as day one.
I've been gigging with my Strike Pro SE, for over a year, with no issues.
@@jaynitrophoto I’ve been wanting to so badly man. But I find it’s such a slog to break down/set up if I wanna be mobile with it lol. Do you have the same problem?
Honestly surprised how good these sound. Especially the cymbals!
Super nice and sounds are awesome Price???? $3,499.00 Roland must be crying...I would so love to have that kit way to go Alesis.
Exactly what I thought-Roland should be scared. I thought this would cost double or triple what they are asking. Astounding design effort. Positional snare head sensing and other tweaks could easily be added in a super-deluxe model.
@@bubba101010 The positional sensing of the snare or any drum really isn't that important. Especially when it jacks up the cost of the kit. Having dynamics is what matters & this has them.
I agree with you on the overall value of this type of instrument. Funny, on the dynamics side- the fact that the snare dynamics will “clip” at 127 or the highest midi value with say, only 80 percent of the force one can hit with means the drum will sound similar at all force above that level and won’t choke/react/sound the same when hit super-hard. And without positional sensing I can’t “back up” rim shots with the stick tip landing closer and closer to the snare rim for extra character and ring… it’s not possible. At this price point, the pros outweigh the cons here. It’s a fantastic product!
The reason they include a snare stand is because the snare is so shallow, many existing stands may not be tall enough to get the playing surface high enough. I've run into this with practice pads in a snare stand many times.
AWESOME! Amazing playing and explanation too!
Yeah, being able to show amazing ability without flashing is what drumming is really about. Such a clean player with a lot of style.
I really enjoy your playing.
It's a really great e-kit, but I wish they could have provided a simple High/Low EQ knob on the front of the module.
Nick D is the freaking man, man.
Loved the Strike Pro for the module, but Roland is unmatched with durability. Even if the sounds are better to someone's ear, the worry about the kit lasting is still there.
They also went with thiner less acoustic looking shells? 🤔
Great review as always Nick! 😁
I'm still using my DM8 module and it's working great, though I am looking to upgrade very soon, but then again it also doesn't have a touchscreen and a lot of the other fancier things that the Prime module does so I'm curious as well
When I heard BFG was going to be part of it, I was a little sceptical as I have tried that VST and wasn't overly enamoured with it. But having heard many playing examples, I have to say it sounds excellent indeed.
Really?...in my opinion BFD remain the greatest sounding (if you want acoustic) drum samples ever made. Specifically the Platinum Samples expansion packs. No other VST's have velocity layers as great as BFD. Not even superior 3.
@@doublestrokerollI tried the free version. I liked the interface and as it was a stand alone app, it definitely is a nice plug and I can see why people do rate it, and I don’t mean to say I didn’t like them, but compared to Ssd5 and Superior drummer 3, they came in a close 3rd. Just a personal opinion, that’s all. But to be sure I did check out the expansions on their website, and my feeling didn’t change.
But again, listening to here, this module sounds great!!!
@@steevidrumsFair enough. Those three are all pretty much the top VST's.
I’m coming soon to Sweet water to get my own to trade in Sensory Percussion 2 I this is what I wanted. Sensory Percussion 2 is really awesome but I’m more into practice of drums on line teaching and playing in bands.
It will be interesting to see what...if any...compatibility there is with the Strike Pro SE kit
I've seen many sales pitch "reviews". From what I can gather:
• Snare does not have position sensing.
• Snare does not have rim shot detection (how did they not do this?)
• 20-25 seconds boot time in the module (which is basically a linux PC).
• Unpredictable kit load time with muted pads till load is complete.
• Much improved triple zone cymbals with a bell, bow, and edge on every one.
• 18" ride replaces a 16" ride.
• One less cymbal then the original strike pro/SE.
IMHO, I feel like adding this module to a Strike Pro SE would give you 99% of the same features, with nicer shells, and an extra cymbal. Paying an extra $1k for this kit seems out of line to me. Would also be nice to replace the 8" tom with a bigger one.
The snare does have rimshot detection.
I think its Great that they bought BFD Drums from Fxpansion. These Sounds are killer!
Nick has the spirit of Buddy Rich flowing through his veins.
Is the module sold separately? Love the BFD libraries.
I have purchased the Strike Pro SE from Sweetwater two years ago and mostly like it. Think I need to visit the water to observe the difference between this and the old gen, but it seems to resolve problems on the Strike version. Now like a mix of older Alesis equipment with my Strike Pro, wondering if I can intermix strata and older Alesis equipment.
This thing is incredible. This is easily the best E-Kit yet. I've got to get this thing.
id say their best module made yet. Their pads aren't anything special and if its like their past kits they will have a bunch of quality control issues.
I love this kit, just bought it about a week ago and it rocks! However, because it's so new, getting other software (like EZDrummer 3) to recognize the pads is - so far - an exercise in futility, so recording it as a MIDI instrument into my DAW (Cakewalk) is not happening. It's definitely not Alesis fault, I just hope that Toontrack and other VST makers release updates soon so that I can use this drum set live AND in studio.
When did you guys finally start mixing your drum videos from drummer perspective?
The best edrum so far ...wow. I hv to buy 1
Wow! Sounds so Real!
I currently have a strike pro se and love it. I even ordered a second one to expand my current one but it’s back ordered. I’m hoping I can still get my second pro se with them now pushing this one. I’d hate to mix and match
How is the hi hat controller...? Does it feel/react properly...? Ive heard this is a slight issue with cheaper kits... Is this hi-hat as good as the roland VH-14D...? This is the only thing holding me back from really wanting this kit - Everything else seems great, and the module/sounds themselves are awesome... :)
This looks very interesting!
great video maybe planning on buying something like this in the future
Looks & Sounds Great!! 😎👍🏼👍🏼
This looks awesome, love the look of the cymbals, the new module and the amount of drums that you get. Just kinda wish they'd gone with more drum-like pads, though I imagine they went with the thinner, ATV style pads to keep costs down, and I'm really not so much a fan of the gold tension rods either, though I may be in the minority with that. Otherwise, I'm digging it
I'm interested in using the cymbals and module with my Strike Pro SE pads! Maybe they'll do a shell version of this in the future!
Great looking and sounding kit.. but what would be greater to make this Kit go complete.. with some cymbals like a natural China looking cymbal and a splash Cymbal .. I believe with a upgrade like that.. this beauty going to be 'I Wanne Have This One!!!'😊
WOW! They really kicked it up several notches and at $3500 that's a deal. I paid $3500 for my first E kit in 1998 it was a Roland TD 10 and that was with my friends employee discount. 🤣
I was hoping to see Nick's signature, "Now with the snares off".
For $3500, it had better be their most advanced set ever. Interesting choice for Alesis to invest so much in the module, in an era where VST drum software is so widely used. I think they'll have to undercut the Roland TD27 in price for this thing to move numbers.
A lot of gigging drummers don't like vsts for live play. To many things that can go wrong.
@@joe08867That's fair. If the module here is actually legit with low latency, might make more sense to compare this kit against one of Roland's TD-50 models rather than the TD-27.
The sounds are a lot better than the TD 27.
The TD27 sounds horrible. I don't want to have to run my E-Kit through a VST for it to sound good. Alesis is absolutely making the right decision in bringing actual VST sounds into the module itself.
@@nonyabusiness6084 💯 agree with this. Roland and others need to get up to speed with running VSTs within the module .
It’s the only way to level up the sounds. I love my Roland kits but the sounds are just very dated. I hate having to rely on my laptop to be able to use the kit.
So happy to see Alesis take this approach.
Dangggggg!!! I wish I could afford taking lessons from you!!! Todd Sucherman, and Yourself, are my MOST FAVORITE DRUMMERS. I JUST LOVE THE BEATS AND GROOVES YOU COME UP WITH. YOU FRIGGEN ROCK!!!!!
i’m definitely saving up for this
¿ Se pude sanplear con el modulo o el software que trae baterias aqusticas como me parece que se podia hacer con la estike ?
When God created Nick, he added 100% charisma
8:22 why do people do this looking to the side shot? Is it because you saw it on another video and you just wanna do what they did for some reason? Or do you truly feel this is adding value to the video for some reason? Drumeo does this.
Please explain why you do this.
I just started getting into da Vinci resolve and I’ll be making my own videos. So I wanna know the reasoning behind this. It seems very strange to me. I think I like it when the viewer is looking right at me, better.
Thanks.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm a pro video editor, and these cameras are set up backwards. He should be talking directly to camera in the closeup and talking in 3/4 or profile in the wide. Videography 101.
Personally I feel like when people stare into the camera it can feel a little odd especially when they are explaining something rather than having a conversation.
I want this kit so bad 😩
Since the Alesis Trigger | IO was the same as the ddrum DDTi (just different names and colors)....🤔 I'm suspecting this drum set similarities with the XM eDrum Master Series CMAX 110SR Kit. Yes, all 3 mentioned above are Chinese.
I hear a new e-kit is out and I know soon Nick will let me know if it's any good.
They've,Finally did it,A full size electric drumkit by alesis on Sweetwater.
Can you also change the language of the menu?
For those who don’t speak English or speak English and another language that is preferable for them
Will Sweetwater sell separate Alesis cymbal pads for expansion?
They have the expansion pack. 2 cymbals and 1 extra pad.
Or you can purchase the larger kit from them.
VERY COOL ALESIS DRUMS!! 🥁🥁😎☝💯💞🏁LOVE My Smaller Alesis KIT but something to look forward to is always ALESIS GOOD! 🤣👍🤩
1:52 sounds like no excuses Alice and chains sort of for a second lol
Alesis stepping up as always. Very nice i like it.
I shoulda known as soon as I saw the Max that they’d be ‘upgrading’ my Strike as well 😂 looks sick, though. And some really interesting sounds!
Does this basically obviate the need for a Pearl Mimic pro then? The sounds will be just as good?
Sounds way better than roland or anything out there at the moment. Shocking
So true..
I agree
Absolutely. This is easily the best E-Kit yet. I'm sold.
how long does it take to fully load a new kit ?
and do the tails carry over when changing to a different kit..?
One of the first things mentioned is connect to wifi. Hmm, is this module HiFi dependent ? I understand if its an option for downloads etc, but if its required for operation of the module then that sucks.
Serious drum set - serious price. But I always enjoy Nick's playing!
Jon Levitz isn't too bad on the kit
Need to find someone who has this and the Roland sets and let us know the difference. Is it worth having more hardware or stick with my safety net (Roland)?
Still have to stick to my td27 and ezdrummer. If Roland only can come up with good module sounds!
Of course, because you already have a TD27. I returned mine. It sounded terrible. This Module & Kit absolutely destroys the TD27. Especially in sound quality. Nearly every kit on here is usable. On the TD27 barely any are usable without major tweaking. Even then they sound bad.
Nice review
Need it
This does seem like a Win for Alesis and sounds great, ghost notes are very articulate now and build Quality looks better from here than the strike. It also seems you can split all the triggers now instead of just the Kick, Snare and Toms.
My 2 gripes, and 1 is a big one. There is not enough direct outs and they should be TRS (Stereo). Even just adding 2 more to make 6 stereo with 2 mono mains is a must these days. If recording, how are we supposed to separate all the sounds?
My second gripe, and this is with ANY NEW DEVICE these days, is WHY ARE YOU STILL USING USB HOST CONNECTORS and PROTCOLS? EVERYTHING needs to be USB-C and support it's Protocols, PERIOD, it's 2024 for Christ's sake!
If they fix those 2 issues and this thing can edit triggers to the extent of Roland and get rid of acoustic kit machine gunning on larger drums, then there would be no reason to buy Roland anymore and that's what we need is stiff competition in the E-Drum market. I will say this is a good step forward, I'll likely get it, but it just needs that extra umph.
I will give them praise on letting us stack 3 layers, that's 1 more than Roland. Plus their software for creating multi-velocity samples is pretty awesome, that's something Roland doesnt do as well. I'm in Alesis's Corner, they just need to work on a few aspects.
I'm not even into music and the more I watch reviews from this drum kit, the more I want to buy it......😅
I'll be using the Factory Reset Button all the time.🔄
Incredible suena súper real
I just received the kit today, after 1h30 of assembly, I finally turn on the module... and you know what?? MODULE stuck on the "Alesis Drum" background IMPOSSIBLE to do anything... !!! I'm really disgusted...
if this had comparable build quality and trigger reliability of a roland, it would be game over
If this "has" as no one yet knows if it doesn't. It hasn't been out long enough.
Is it possible to purchase and download other BFD sound packs and put them on the module?
Hey, D-Squared. Hope you’re well. Unfortunately other BFD sound packs aren’t yet available.
Hope this helps.

If they gave the toms more of an acoustic look and lost the rack and made it less than a VAD504, they would have a winner. I still think I'm going to go with the VAD307 w/ EzD over this new Alesis kit
I have no clue how. This is easily the best E-Kit ever made up until now.
Sounds good ..
Can you use your custom kits you made in the Strike SE kit on these from the memory card?
Hey, MsEnt2024. The new Strata Kit is a completely different beast and the Strike Pro sounds will not work.

If it weren't for the price and having one less cymbal compared to the alesis strike pro se, it'd be so worth it
It still is worth it. The sound quality & features of both the kit & the module easily make up for that one less cymbal. Especially when you can just easily assign any cymbal sound to any rim.
The only thing I see that is missing is the individual outputs for muti-track recording you would find on a Roland. Not really so advanced. They did not provide for simultaneous multitrack recording of the individual drum channels. This is a big let down. The only way to mutitrack is through the use of MIDI and then assign samples, but you can do that with any module so this is not at all unique. I'll stick with my Roland set.
Trying to decide between this and the Ef Note 5 is tough. You gotta consider the F note 5 is cheaper.
This kit wins easily imho. I got a TD27 & did not like it. Glad I returned it. This thing sounds incredible. VST sounds from the module itself. Can't beat that.
@@nonyabusiness6084 You couldn’t get ANY sounds out of the TD 27 you liked? I was able to get quite a few OK sounding kits out of the TD 17. I know this blows it away sound wise though.
@@williamperri3437 I tuned a few so they were tolerable. But the Roland sounds so artificial no matter what you do. You have to run it through VST's to get acoustic drum sounds. But I just learned that this thing doesn't have Bluetooth audio. What?! They build the ultimate drum module with every feature every drummer has ever wanted. Every setting imaginable, onboard VST samples, a 10.1 color touch screen with the most intuitive interface I've ever seen. Yet they leave out Bluetooth audio & the ability to pipe in music to play to?!?
I don't get it. That's a deal breaker for me. I so wanted to buy this too.
@@nonyabusiness6084 oh right! I think Justin from 65 Drums mentioned that 😠 what about the Pearl Mimic pro? Or even the Yamaha DTX 6 just to give it a try?

one day 😍
John Lovits plays drums well.
my biggest criticism would be the rack system. Not because it has lack of quality and durability but it has not enough flexibility to construct the toms around me. And I HATE the 2 up 2 down because everything ist too far right of my position. Yes, i could sell it separately but who will buy a rack like this ?
You can do 3 high & 1 low. Go look up the other videos on this kit. One of them did just that.
Is there an option to EQ the samples?
Yes. You can add a ton of effects in the mixer view.
I want @65 Drums to try it
his review is out
Sounds galore but moving all that?
Hi-hat Stand and Kick Pedal Sold Separately. What is suggested to use with this kit? At different price ranges?
I had to sell my kit during lock down to afford food for my family. It's been awhile and I really miss the freedom of playing. As a 100% disabled combat veteran with ptsd it is extremely beneficial to me to play.
With my birthday coming up in a few days I am really wanting this kit or will probably settle on something less as money is still tight and my credit is not that great. Can't work because of disabilities. Stating this because I want to ask @Sweetwater or anyone else if they ever help US disabled veterans. When I get a kit I am planning on either putting content up on UA-cam and/or streaming on Twitch so I can advertise for you.
Greetings Nick! You're awesome!
Great kit: better cymbals, module, kit sound even. But another thousand dollars!? I’ll just keep my Strike Pro
As impressive as it is, I’m curious of long term especially those new cymbals. I love the look and sizes but Alesis lost some points still using the plastic clamps on frame, at home fine but not road worthy. Will have to replace with Gibraltar clamps.
Sounds amazing but the snare and toms are too small in depth, miss the acoustic look!
I personally could care less what they look like. It's all about the sound & this kit sounds better than any other I've heard.
I am waiting for the usual "Machine Gun" comment. Alesis has come a long way with their kits.
Can the USB take a Digital input like A multi-zone snare that connects with USB?
Nope
Hey, CFeltsWorld. The USB is only for connecting to a computer. It doesn’t have that capability.
I hope this helps.
