- For a new challenge, I tried surviving in a single car in Project Zomboid with only the contents of a starter vehicle. Can anyone sustain life with food, water, and shelter here?

Now the question to ask yourself is, "If every part is gradually replaced, is it still the same car?" Theseus' car
As long as the VIN is the same; yeah, totally.
Legally at least.
Lol
Vsauce, Michael here
I say yes.
Each time you replace a part, that part becomes a part of the car itself. Even if you change each part in turn, each one is becoming a part of the car and is thus still the same car.
Edit, since I made this posts I've heard two really good points:
1: What matters is the purpose, the history, the essence of thing, much moreso than its mere materials. Even if you were to replace the entire thing at once, as long as you are actively trying to stay true to those things then the result is it is still the original car. For example the Gold Pavilion Temple in Kyoto has burned down and been rebuilt several times, but every time they've rebuilt it they've fully committed to keeping the purpose, history and essence of it perfectly preserved, so it's still the same Golden Pavilion Temple. The west is too fixated on the materials themselves, when that's not the most critical part.
2: If you want a short and to the point version for answering the "Ship of Theseus" question, then it has two definitive answers:
A: If you're selling tickets to see it, then it is the original.
B: If you're selling the boat itself, then it's not and you don't tell the buyer that it's not in mint condition any more.
@@KCzz15 exactly, I don't get how there's even a discussion about this, it's just immediately logical to me

Someone bought it for me and I think you're right. I'm getting warmed up to it.
I started playing the first time it came, as a demo or so, and then forgot it for a long while. A week ago, after watching couple of this guy's videos, I went through my HDD looking for an old copy or backup, but not finding anything I just bought it. First it came the frustration of not being able to survive more than a day or so, but I've learned from my mistakes and currently have a pretty nice base in one of those posh two-story houses in Muldraugh, south the road where Cortman Medical is. I am struggling to find seeds, and I lost in the house's first survivor my welder mask (a shame, considering I've got a propane torch and two tanks), he might be wandering over there, I hope I find it soon.

Never thought I’d watch a philosophical man play a zombie game and learn quotes that can help improve ones mind, yet here we are. Love it ambiguous, keep it up
I'd love to see him play the forest and spout philosophy while the cannibals SCREEEEEEEE in the distance.
(pulls up to a zombie, rolls down window) "Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?"
Y'know, I never thought Project Zomboid would be so philosophical, but after watching most of the adventures of Worm Man and all of the roof-dwelling maniac, I'm convinced this is one of the best games for learning about the world and ourselves. When everything is terrible and it takes forever to not die to zombies, we truly do get a glimpse into ourselves. For in such a dangerous situation, at least we're safe inside our minds. And our cars.
Truth.
I was thinking the other day after playing PZ for probably too long: you cannot win. There is actually no way to "win" this game. Only you can decide if you have reached your goals. In a long enough time line survival drops to zero. No matter how you lived, you die like a dog in the mud, being eaten by the undead. All that you accumulated, all that inventory management... and then it is over and we are left to contemplate what it was all for...
Ambiguous is just the modern philosopher.

I would say that if you can move away from the car itself, it would be OP as hell.
You become a true nomad, the way our great great ancestors once were, always on the move to newer pastures, following their food and seeking a new home to settle on for a little while then move on once again, a never ending cycle.
Never ending until gas get stale
Even if you use ethanol, tires will rot after a few years
that's not OP, that's really risky
A rubber tramp as they are called. :)
My father passed away last week, and i know it sounds cheesy, but your video was prophetic to me, "to value and take care of what matters to you" this theme rings home extremely hard for me, as now im left with all his possessions, his home and vehicles, and these things matter so much to me now, they are things i cannot lose.
Sorry for your loss, keep good care of those things, and they will do the same just like they did for your father. My mothers offroader has 30 years now, keep good care and itll be fine.
When my dad lost his dad, he'd think of him as just out of sight. Like he'd gone into his shed to care for his birds or do some repairs. And if you look after his important possessions, it'll really feel that way. That he's never /*really* gone, he's just left for a while. All your memories of him will stay, and he'll always be just like he was in your mind.
In a way, everyone you know is in that same place. Once they leave your sight, they too are frozen in your mind.
@@trouty7947 Read that in amphibians voice, nicely writen
Im sorry for your loss friend. Things always seem to get better at some point. Although i wouldnt pretend to understand what you are going through. I hope everything is well.
First of all, my sincere condolences.
After reading your comment I couldn't help but remember AA's Gerald Williams videos where he would go on and on about "repairing his father's house". That, along with this video's lesson on caring for what you care about becomes oddly fitting.
Take good care of not only what your father left you with but also of yourself and the ones you love and I'm sure you'll make him proud.
My best wishes.

I randomly found this channel via the suggested tab. I've been going back and watching series and videos from 2018.... You've brought me so much interest in Project Zomboid that I ended up buying the game. I have all of 14 hours and I probably go thru 9 characters an hour but I'm having fun. Your story telling is unmatched. I'm so addicted to your channel as I'm not watching a UA-cam video I'm watching an actual Auto biography of your character. A movie of sorts. I use a combination of Epidemic Sounds (recently became an affiliate of them - I greatly appreciate any use of my referral link if you're starting a trial: share.epidemicsound.com/3sMm7f ). In particular, a lot of the pieces I choose are either various bossa nova, or piano pieces, particularly by Trevor Kowalski and Megan Wofford, among others. Then there's UA-cam free music library and Shockwave Sound (requires a license) for many of the other classical pieces.
As always: FYI **This is the Build 41 IWBUMS beta branch of Project Zomboid available here: projectzomboid.com/blog/content/uploads/2019/10/iwbumshowto-768x486.gif
Damn
Your character development skills are phenomenal
I know it seems a little tame in comparison, but an engineer play through would be cool. There are so many craftable traps and perks (recently learned at level 5 elec you can craft battery power lamps!), most people die before unlocking them (myself included). There is also a forage for worms and bait stick traps loop that can lead to sustainable food.
This type of commentary and storytelling one may only find here at ambiguous amphibian. Always a great time watching these videos!
"I made my way up to 80 to save gas"
Ah yes, the American and European strategy
If that's a Dodge Dynasty analogue a wai - warm air intake - will help with fuel economy. And for the record 80kph is around 50mph, on most cars of that period 50-60mph is the most fuel economical speed.
American only*
@@cr4yv3n As if you're special.
@@CoralCopperHead??
@@rosiehawtrey it's surprising that it's set that fast, as usually the faster you go, the steeper the power required. It may be more accurate to say the car has been 'de-tuned' to run less efficiently at lower speeds, so that it will be more efficient at highway speeds. The window sticker doesn't care what your fuel economy is at 25mph, only 55mph. I think if they wanted to optimize for a lower speed, say 25mph, they could have much higher fuel economy ratings. (I don't know if air resistance follows the square law, but it's that sort of curve, the faster you go, the greater the percentage of power loss due to drag)
It's impressive how you turned a zombie game into a life lesson
To be honest my dude I find your philosophical musings and challenges to be one of the more fun elements of any given day. Thanks for what you do my dude.
12:55 "remember, there's always a chance to rekindle the relationship anew as long as there's still life". I do not know how these words are related to that, happening on the screen, but I am in a part of life right now, when I need these words. It was like an ointment to my sores. At the same time it was like a missing piece to my puzzle. You give me hope, Amphibian. I maybe not going to play PZ, but your videos, your philosophical wanderings are very inspiring. Wish me luck and thank you from my heart.
Glad it helped :)
I gotta say, I love the ingenuity of your newer zomboid challenges, it really keeps an old fave fresh. Not to mention that the one shot style keeps you from burning out!
Honestly, watching this makes me want to do a migratory playthrough, moving around from place to place and not setting up a base, simply using whatever vehicle I have settled on as my mobile base, upgrading until I am travelling around in the 'best' vehicle and cruising around the map.
Then I remember that I suck at driving and hate how close the vision is, and I go back to hammering more boards onto my windows.
I like the idea of a post apocalypse where everyone lives out of their car. Kind of like Mad Max Fury Road, except more about the long game survival and less about the going fast and hard.
I though you just gonna live in a car, using it as place to sleep and storage.
But you took the challenge on a whole new level. 😄 Respect!
I love your tired voice of a noir movie police officer who smokes a cigarette and sips whiskey in a dark room, thinking about some dark matters. And the goddamn Chopin in the background.
I really loved the piano music in the background, with your words and a bit of humor, it was one of the best things happened to me today. Thanks for spending time on such a wonderful thing ❤️

you should make this an entire series but with the RV Interior mod so you can have a literal house inside your car (or bus, semi, etc)
I feel like Sunday Driver is a blessing in disguise for a run where you live out of a car. Sure, you're going to be restricting yourself in mobility, but slower speeds mean softer collisions, and softer collisions mean less overall damage to your lifeboat.

I'm very glad you've decided to do some zomboid challenges despite your previous decision to wait for the multiplayer update for the 41 build.
I've only recently found your channel, but your content is phenomenal - your zomboid videos being my favourite. Would you ever consider trying hydrocraft out for a series? I don't know how good a video it would make for, it being so ludicriously (tediously) in-depth, but I think if anybody could make a good series out of it, you would be the one!

Just last week, I watched my nephew glued to his tablet watching a video, curious to see what had his attention I found that he was watching people play a video game, fortnite he said it was called... and I could not understand why he enjoyed it so much. Now, I have watched consecutively a whole bunch of your videos and rather enjoyed the time! Your narration is what wins it for me, the synchronization to the gameplay is really nicely done!

3. Blankets to help players keep warm when the temperature gets really low.

Somehow this reminds me of this fountain pen I have. Usually you buy pens by the dozen and discard them just as easily when they run out. With this fountain pen I bought when it runs out I replace the cartridge. Having it last for a lot longer than any other pen I used before. If need be, I may even try and swap or fix the tip. Even if it's a small thing, it can be quite satisfying having something to keep and take care of. And in turn, you will have something familiar to serve you for a long time.
Oh my god, this must have been so annoying. You are truly a man of focus, dedication and sheer fucking will.
I know the over-philosophizing is a funny gimmick, but "if you can forge your mindset to that of a sustainer, a preserver, you'll be a worthy steward of the things that matter to you, and they'll long outlast your guardianship" is genuinely one of my favorite lines ever.
