+eric johnson Rebuttals: 1. Don't forget how Billy Dee Williams got screwed out of being Two Face, we could've had Lando Calrissian freaking Lando...and instead we ended up with Tommy Lee Jones in bad make-up acting like a two-bit Joker 2. Although Batman and Robin has some issues with tone problems, Batman Forever is literally two faced about being cartoonish and continuing the dark. And what parts that aren't dark feel forced and half-assed, rather than drunk and off-the-cuff like the 60's. Kinda hard to laugh at the comedy if the timing is wrong 3. Jim Carrey's Riddler hasn't aged well and ultimately feels more like another 90's Jim Carrey being himself than a character. 4. Batman and Robin finalized the weaknesses of Joel Schumacher as a director, but all the issues were there in some part in this. 5. Chris O'Donnell and Nicole Kidman are completely awful at their parts.
I’ll be honest this is one of my favourite batman movies. Sure it is goofy but I think Jim Carrey is a very fun villain who is clearly loving every second of his performance. Also Robin is my favourite character in all of comics and I think they did Robin very well in this movie even if Chris O’Donnel is in my opinion too old to be robin as he looks like he’s 18 - 20

That was always how I told them apart, too. The classic Riddler was very calm and collected - a chess player sort who pretty much got meaning in his life by proving himself smarter than everybody else around him to the point where he had this compulsive need to do it and chose to use carefully organized crimes to express this. This Riddler reminded me more of the 1966 Riddler with that over-the-top slapstick portrayal, but then again even the '66 Riddler was shown to be a more cunning planner.
I dunno, creating a device that can manipulate people's brain waves and transfer their thoughts into your head, thusly increasing your own intellectual abilities and convincing everyone in the entire city to buy it so you can drain their brains is pretty smart. As much as I loved Frank Gorshin's Riddler, Jim Carrey's Riddler actually almost succeeded in essentially taking over Gotham, whereas Frank's Riddler really just wanted to steal things and defeat the Dynamic Duo in a battle of wits....

here is why I think batman forever is hated now-a-days....
1) if you go back and watch all the deleted scenes from batman forever, you realize that had those scenes been left in.. it would have no doubt taken the movie to a whole-nother-level... people say it didn't have enough about batman/brucewayne.. welp watch those scenes and you will see the darker understory that people cry is missing
2) batman and robin was also made by joel schumaker or whatever.. and hence, it gets painted with the same brush
3) thanks to the editing and removal of previously mentioned deleted scenes, the movie does have a certain over the top real life cartoonish feel and I guess people cant handle that
4) people hate on val kilmers batman.. but actually, watch the deleted scenes and tell me he wasn't half bad.. hes no Keaton but he def destroys looney-clooney...
5) finally, and this is the clincher for me personally.. apparently the original idea for batman forever was to get Michael Keaton.. but he didn't want it.. had he played batman in this movie, it is highly likely that todays level of scrutiny would be no where near the level of intensity we often hear and see..
personally, I loved this movie as a kid.. was it a little over the top?? ofcourse it was.. that was the mid to late 90s for ya ;D.. but deleted scenes included.. this movie holds its own as a standalone batman flick...

Bob Kane actually said that Kilmer was the best live action Bruce.

Reason Keaton didn't do Forever was because he read the script and apparently it sucked.

"nothing can beat Elfman's"
Yeah, especially when the composer is Elliot Goldenthal ;-)
i've always liked this movie and val kilmer, but as i watched recently on sundance channel,i was amazed at how it managed being a loving 60s batman tribute and weaving its somber tale within its hero, funny, charming, and awesome-a misunderstood masterpiece, joel's masterpiece.
