Is gear often the thing im least concerned with? Yes. (knowledge, skills, water, and food are more important imo) Do i also freaking LOVE a gear/kit haul? Hell yes 😂
interesting! tbh, i'm a grad student on a typical student budget, not really even trying to prep for actual disasters yet - one day i will, but for now i'm considering your points and working out a more low-key option for myself. i'm really only considering stuff like power cuts, a fire or break-in to my apartment building, etc. i live close to my college (as in cambridge uni colleges, not sixth form colleges) and even closer to their postgrad halls, which means i'm within walking distance of the college porters who are trained first aiders among other things, as well as having access to college showers etc. i'm slowly working on a little filofax folder of key contacts in case i'm injured or my phone and laptop both die and i need those contacts on paper, and adding small stuff to a shoebox - matches, candles, very basic first aid items, tape... the kinds of things i'd be really annoyed to not have in a power cut. where i live i simply wouldn't have space for food storage, but my immediate plan would be to get to college, and my long-term plan (once i live somewhere bigger than two rooms) is of course to aim for what you're talking about :)
So… I was a student at Cambridge many years ago (grad student). I think your two biggest hurdles would be power outages and warmth if the power and heating go out in winter. Do you have room under your bed for a 7 day kit? That would be small enough and could be carried to the colleges. Love that you’re preparing! If you have any college-specific questions let me know! Cheers!
@@SustainablePrepping oh nice, what did you study? and yeah, in theory i'd have space for a 7 day kit, i think the main constraint would be cost but anything is better than nothing i expect.
I guess I need to work on my kit.

SAME. I’m always like “show me the shiny!” 😃
