Every version of this song live is fabulous. My personal fave is 2004 musicology tour in Detroit. Please react to Prince covering Creep at Coachella. Video footage ain’t great but he will melt your face off with the guitar solos 🔥🔥🔥
A few other great Prince electric guitar live performances: "Whole Lotta Love" (Led Zepplin cover live 2002), "Superbowl XLI Press Conference 2007" (live performance), "Fury" (live on SNL), "Play That Funky Music/Hollywood Swinging" (live at The Forum 2011), "Guitar" (performance on The Tonight Show April 25, 2008 unaired), "Dreamer" (live on The Tonight Show 2008)
Prince had some stellar drummers and he liked to show them off. More than an album, someone needs to request a live concert (so much more guitar to be found there); I don't know, Super Bowl, Sign 'o the Times or something.
Prince "Let's Go Crazy" at Dortmund, Germany Prince "Purple Rain" live at Syracuse Prince (and of the Hall of Fame rockers) "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
This is a performance from his “3121 Tour”…I believe that’s Cora Dunham on drums. But I would offer the Musicology Detroit show where Prince does this same set. However John Blackwell is on drums…a whole different vibe and excitement.
The prince 1999 album is good sign of the times also but you should watch his piano live melody and purple rain LIVE version and question of you live but he’s a master piano player you should watch piano melody 1988 live next
Great reaction man Good to see a newbie appreciate P. You got to check out purple rain album and film to get started and then you can go from there fo sho.
About doing a full album... First things first: Prince is not funk. He is Funk, Rock, Rock&Roll, Pop, Jazz, Soul, R&B, Blues, Dance, Electro-Punk and all the rest. My suggestions for that mission: Sign O'The Times - double album, sorry. But you have a complete movie-concert of it. Purple Rain - an obviousness. His most famous record, not the best, but good as a starter. IDK why smd recommends this version. No offences, but John Blackwell on drums is insuperable. Musicology Tour or Live at The Forum are amazing! And guitar parts are even two levels better. "What is this?" (Prince covers his face), well is just a pose. A pose while he holds a note in the guitar for more than 20 seconds...
@oskarobit I agree about this version but he needs the version from the Detroit Musicology tour. The one from the Forum Prince had an issue with his guitar and instead Renato had to do keyboard solos. It was on the fly that they had to change it.
If you want to hear funk watch his performance of play that funky music or if you want some more rock, then watch his cover of Radiohead‘s Creep. A good album to understand how wide range of music genres he could do would be the love symbol album.
Prince Lovesexy tour live from Dortmund Germany 1988 is a great watch. Video quality not the greatest but all about the sound right. ua-cam.com/video/5AyoxNQiVDg/v-deo.html

He is quite simply the greatest of all time. Please go down the Prince rabbit hole. You will not be disappointed 💜💜💜

Want more? Try his live rendition of the classic Motherless Child… a masterclass in guitar playing, band conducting and crowd controlling !
THIS!!!!
The drummer is Cora Coleman.
She also played drums for Prince at the Superbowl and on the Chelsea Rodger’s video.
She’s fire 🔥

You're right... not too many pop stars are Artist/ Musicians...😊
You should also check out his cover CREEP at Coachella. It’s fantastic!
Michael Bland and John Blackwell were his best drummers over the years and Sheila E was also great.

Prince mastered over 15 instruments.

CC Dunham is the drummer.
Start with 1999 or Purple Rain. You wont be the same person after listening to both.

Prince is Jimi Hendrix on the guitar
ummm Prince was not a pop artist he just happened to write pop songs.
Do the B lack album. Funk tastic

It would be quicker to list the instruments Prince couldn't play
That would be the great late John Blackwell..
Not this night it wasn't, more's the pity.
It's Christmas time so react to. Another lonely Christmas.
I’m currently on vacation, but you can put in for a submission on my linktree
