What makes Prince great is that he can do it all and do it with excellence. Whether it's jazz, rock, blues, r&b, hop/hop, slow jams, or pop...he does it well.
I was turned on to Prince in 1982 with the "1999" album, at the age of 18. I was nearing 20 years old when "Purple Rain" landed. It REMAINS a musical touchstone in my life & for my generation. I was blessed to see Prince four times in concert, the first show being the "Purple Rain" tour, the day after Thanksgiving in 1984, at the Philadelphia Spectrum. The BEST Prince concert I saw was in October of 1988, during the "Lovesexy" tour. Mind-blowing, UNFORGETTABLE concert, once again at the old Philadelphia Spectrum.....!! Aaahhhhh....precious memories....!!
Purple Rain album remained number one on the charts 6 months straight; a record from 1984 that stands today. Purple Rain was the tenth highest grossing movie of the year while Purple Rain album and tour where the highest grossing of the year. The fact Prince was able to be remain number one on the charts against all the following acts most successful albums of their careers is amazing: MJ/thriller, Bruce Springsteen/born in the USA, Madonna/like a virgin, Lionel Richie/dancing on the ceiling, Pointer Sisters/break out, Van Halen/1984, Huey Lewis and the news/sports, YES/90125, ZZ Top/Eliminator, Cyndi Lauper/she’s so unusual, Tina Turner/private dancer,Chicago/17 etc.
This movie introduced the world to Prince. He is in love with the beautiful woman 👩🏻 but she is dating him and the other guy, Morris. This song is so powerful that it puts chills down my arms no matter how many times I hear it. Amazing vocals. An American Treasure
This is from the Purple Rain film. Prince won an Oscar for the soundtrack. Michael Jackson made the music video into a cinematic event. But his Moonwalker film was not released in the United States. It came out on home video. Prince headlined 3 films in the '80s.
What is he? He's a God sent musical genius of our time. There will not be another one in our lifetime. I can testify as a first hand witness that he can sing like this live. Most of the time his live song performances are better then the studio version Liv4luv 0(+->
Prince was saved from sickness by an angel as a child. Rosie Gaines reminded him that his talent was God-given and, along with Mayte, got him out of his wild days and back on a better path. I think that Larry Graham's influence swayed him a little TOO straight and narrow, to the point that he stopped cursing, but it helped keep Prince out of trouble in the early 2000s-2010s.
To be alive during his time in 84 I was 13 and I am pleased to have been alive during his time truly blessed to be walking around with Prince on this planet not even today we have a Prince walking around He may be in the last line of some the greats of Art and performance and producing music we may see I loved what he did during his slice of time and this is blessing on its own. Prince set a fine example to what a human may achieve and hard work may of had a little something to do with it to see now a generation that missed his time now getting see and hear what He did is his slice of heaven gift He left to us now amazing , amazing what He left for us. I feel honoured to have walked on this earth during his living time.
@@trinityluv8560 Thought, skill, ability and knowledge with hard work go along way and Prince unlocked these treasures to the full what a man and what an example.
Prince put out 20 albums from 1978 to 1998. And that doesn't count the Time Band album he created for them. Wrote all the songs, produced them, recorded all the instruments on them. His songs became hits for other artists as well. Chaka Khan. The Bangles. Sinead O'Connor.
The Greatest performer musician of all time, you should review lets go crazy live from syracuse new york, also the video for when doves cry extended version!!, video for little red corvette, and purple rain also live from syracuse new york
Always opt for extended versions. Especially for "Computer Blue (Hallway Speech vers." and "Thieves In The Temple (extended)." I don't think there's a single radio edit that's better than his extended versions unless you are cripplingly A.D.D. without a lot of musical skill appreciation.

Out of all measured singers, Prince is second only to Mariah Carey, and he can go a lot deeper than she can, but she can get higher. No less than the blind genius Stevie Wonder is on record as saying "If Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, then Prince is the Emperor."
Brother you miss a great one!! Prince was about music not sales!! You could go to a Prince concert for little to NOTHING in price and leave KWOWING you saw the BEST MUSICIANS TO EVER DO IT!!!!!!!! I saw Prince perform live twice 1990 Wembley London and at the O2 London 2007 without doubt two of the best nights of my life
