Dhani Harrison is George Harrison's son. .. George wrote this song. Dhani was there honoring his pops!
So sweet to see him there for his father.
He looks just like his dad too.
Watching Prince looking at Dhani while playing the heck out of this song! George must have been smiling down from heaven!
@@judithstrenio9552 Dhani looks like he's in rock Heaven right now and who wouldn't be? I've watched this probably a dozen times and never tire of it.
@@jenniferrodriguez5337 When I first saw this I thought I was looking at a ghost!
Anyone ever say Prince ain’t a great guitarist just needs to watch this.
And the superbowl!!
Agree!!!
Super Bowl
if he wasnt great he wouldnt have been allowed on stage with the legends that he shared the stage with in this performance. haters gonna hate.
There's not an instrument Prince couldn't play.
Dhani looks so much like his dad it's almost like George is there. What a tribute to my favourite Beatle.
Thank you for your sweet comment. My sister was a personal friend of George's back in the 70's and worked, I believe for Apple Records. We were Beatlemaniacs and saw them in concert in 65!! When I see Dhani it is bittersweet- so sad that George passed away, and so grateful that his "twin-son" is continuing his Father's beautiful, spiritual legacy. This song is greatly overlooked in musical history. Love to the Harrison family. 🎸🎶🎙🎵 🤗🙏💙
I'm with you on this !
I felt EXACTLY the same - and, still do, every time I see this performance!! ☮☮☮❤❤❤
That's what I was going to say- if you can't tell who Dhani's dad is just by looking at him...
I felt exactly the same.
Prince's guitar solo was a finger to the magazine that left him off the top 100 guitarists ever list.
Exactly! I hope @Black Pegasus looks up the backstory here. I love Prince’s sassy response. We all know who was on the right side of THAT 😂😂💐
Same magazines which left late Eddie van Halen off the Top 10. Dummies. 😖😖
Any kind of "rating" or "ranking" in the world of art is pure BS. There isn't an objective way to measure art. There barely is a way to categorize music based on style, and we still argue whether certain songs belong "more to that style than the other".
Yeeeessss 💧☔🎸
I've seen some great guitarists perform live- Kerry Livgren, Alex Lifeson, Rik Emmet, Matthias Jabs, Rick Nielsen to name a few, and Prince himself. He is as good as any of them.
Dhani's smile to Tom Petty while Prince is absolutely shredding is fabulous!
Dhani looked so happy onstage but unfortunately he said some negative things about Prince afterwards, and I just haven't looked at Dhani the same since.
Dna I actually was NOT a fan of it..,said it was a”bit gratuitous “…
@@starlette570 Exactly! I shook my head in disgust at his comments!
@@starlette570 That's _NEPOTISM_ for ya! Sick of these kids of famous people that we are supposed to give a shit about.
@@starlette570 Thanks for the knowledge! I obviously took it at face value. Many geniuses throughout history who truly think outside the box of their times are maligned by their peers until time has proven them to be the true genius visionary that they are. IMHO, Prince's talent & music will be appreciated and studied long after most of his contemporaries. Cheers!
Prince's smile to the other musicians during his performance is EPIC!!!
He’s asking. ”More?” Add Petty nods.
Prince's 2007 superbowl halftime show is a must see..
This was Prince giving Rolling Stone magazine a big eff you for leaving him off their list of 100 greatest guitarists!!!
He walked in, killed it, threw guitar, walked off stage...Legend!❤
Big pimpin’ 😂
Steve Winwood was the one playing the organ, and is considered one of if not the best ever at playing rock organ. He's been playing for a long time, starting in the 60s with Traffic and Blind Faith, and had a strong solo career during the 80s. You've probably heard his songs "Back in the High Life Again" and "Higher Love."
I will only add that Low Spark of High Heeled Boys by Traffic is a legendary classic.
Started with the Spencer Davis Group "Gimme Some Lovin".
@@LonghopeBro-ju6jl and that song is awesome.
That's not Elo, it's E.L.O: Electric Light Orchestra.
He's also a great songwriter, vocalist and guitarist. Check out Dear Mr. Fantasy, and my fave: Can't Find My Way Home. I would recommend a deep dive into Steve Winwood.
Still get chills when looking at Dhani in this video. He is the SPITTING image of his father.
NOBODY puts PRINCE in a corner!!!!
I saw what you did there.
@@higgme1ster 😋😋😋😋😋
Prince wouldn't be seen playing with just anyone. The fact that he was up there with these fellows says a lot about what he thought of them. And the late George Harrison
What gets me, in the feels, is that Dhani is there, putting this all together for his dad. It’s a magical, extraordinary moment. Brings tears.
I love that little sly grin on Dhani's face right b4 Prince comes in the spotlight like "oh shizz, this is gonna be wild!" And it was! lol
@@mikemagoostherhythmdojo6064 iT was, WILD
Prince was a musical genius, unappreciated by his peers! May his beautiful soul rest in peace.
It's mainly because Prince was self taught. I'm not really sure he could even read music.???❤❤❤😂😂😂 I looked it up. No, Prince could not read sheet music. And learned to play instruments by ear.
Billions and Billions of Prince and Tom Petty FANS I KNOW SHED A FEW TEARS WHEN THEY PASSED 😢❤
Princes Super Bowl Halftime performance is legendary. Played live, in the rain, no backing track. EPIC!
This! You have to see Prince's half-time show. One if the greatest rock performances of all time and by far the best Superbowl show.
Prince's show was so kickass that I didn't even mind that My Bears lost that Super Bowl. A couple of my dudes got hurt in the freakin' hurricane induced winds and torrential rains, and I was ok cuz Prince made it ok. Watch the documentary that the NFL did about it. A producer talks about how he told Prince it was raining when they met up to put on the show.
Prince said "Can you make it rain harder?" And I was like "Right on!" I don't want to ruin the rest
Best Half time Show ever ,Bruno Mars second ,Areosmith !!!
RIP Tom, Prince and of course George. I love Dani's reaction to posing Prince, that smile
That solo was Prince giving Rolling Stone Magazine the middle finger for not naming him in the top 100 guitar artists earlier that week. He came in without a rehearsal and killed it, tossed his guitar into the crowd and promptly walked off stage like a boss with zero F's given. That was Prince's guitar version of a grudge f***.
My issue is that Prince should have found a different time and place to show the magazine how he felt about the snub. This was a tribute to George Harrison and he should have kept his part in it, respectful. Everyone knows that he had quite an ego and he was definitely eccentric, but this crossed a line, IMO. Don't get me wrong... I've always liked Prince and I think he was an amazingly talented artist, but this little show of vengence and spite should not have been brought into a tribute to ANY other artist - not just Harrison. It left a sour taste in the mouths of many people, including a lot of lifelong Prince fans.
@@bobbiejojackson9448 It shouldn't have. It was fitting and good.
@@bobbiejojackson9448 In all fairness, Prince was one the of inductees into the R&R Hall of Fame at the same time (2004). As a lifelong Prince fan, his performance here didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. And Dhani had a great time...and Tom Petty was the one who persuaded Prince to perform in this tribute.
And honestly, would anyone still be talking about this performance and have so many views if Prince wouldn’t have come out and killed it? Not saying it wasn’t a good performance otherwise, but Prince made it amazing! And worth watching over and over
When he walked off the camera went to Oprah in the audience holding his guitar lol it was awesome
Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne were part of the Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison and Roy Orbison
And Bob Dylan.

It's from a tribute concert for George Harrison. There are piles of great performances. I highly recommend it.
@@mrsgrim688 thanks so much, I am going to go check it out
@@mammuchan8923 You're more than welcome.
Other performances that I can watch over and over are from the The Band's last concert on Thanksgiving Day in 1976. Martin Scorsese released a documentary on the affair in 1978 that is just great with performances by Neil Young, Neil Diamond, The Staple Singers, Emmylou Harris, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some more.
Also, JIC you're unaware, there's a 1978 flick called Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band starring Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees as the titular band with performances by Billy Preston, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, and even Steve Martin and George Burns, all doing Beatles tunes. More recently there was a 2007 musical Across The Universe, just full of Beatles references and comprised of nothing but Beatles tunes performed by actors who can really sing.
This is a really long winded response to your thx, but I would rather tell you something you already know than take the chance on your missing out on what I consider to be truly great music being made.
Peace.
I'm so excited you did this one! Tom Petty said that Prince didn't even show up to rehearsal so they had no idea what to expect from him. But as you can see, he showed up and he showed OUT!! 🎸
EDIT - I was incorrect, he was at rehearsal but didn't really rehearse. ✌️
Harrison's widow didn't really want him there, Prince wasn't a personal friend. He didn't rehearse because it wasn't 100% certain that he was going to even be ON; notice how they kept him sidelined until the end? You can go back and forth on who was disrespecting who until the cows come home, but the point is, Prince _respected_ George, and he turned very tense behind-the-scenes into a moment to shine. Tom Petty was a consummate professional, improvising with just bits of the chorus when Prince kept going.
Someone surfaced a picture recently that showed him at rehearsal so 🤷♂️
@@phunkysai I stand corrected, he was there but didn't actually rehearse
@xheralt was just thinking of how good the rest of the musicians are to react and anticipate and make a never rehearsed performance seamless
Princes owned the stage.
This guitar solo literally makes me cry every time I hear it. You can be technically perfect, but still be missing something. Prince is connecting technical brilliance with emotional depth. That is unique!
Prince was AWESOME!! Listening May 2024..
Prince was and always will be one of the best dressed men in the history of music.
Seeing Prince and Tom Petty on the stage together is just incredible. I always get chills during Prince’s solo.
Prince was a musical genius and could play almost any instrument. So. So. So. Underrated.
Prince was so underrated it was sad. That man could play.
When Prince threw his guitar that was a metaphorical "mic drop"! He was so underappreciated as a guitarist, one of the best (IMO). The guy on the acoustic guitar to the right of Tom Petty was Dhani Harrison, George Harrison's son. Steve Winwood (from the bands Traffic and Blind Faith, also had a solo career with hits like Higher Love) was on the keyboard, Marc Mann (guitarist from ELO) played the other solos before Price joined in. According to lore, Prince's tech caught the guitar he threw and delivered it (per Prince's instructions) to Oprah. It is now interred in Prince’s Paisley Park (Prince's former home and studio), which is basically a tour destination for fans now.
Wow! Great info. All I knew was I loved it. Thanks for filling in that information.
Thank you! I knew I recognised the other guitarist but couldn't remember his name or place him and no one was even mentioning him. Personally I preferred the sound of his guitar over Princes. Princes is quite a scratchy/screechy sound. I also don't get everyone's immense praise to him for this performance because if you break it down it wasn't anything particularly special or difficult for any good guitarist. Don't get me wrong it was a really good solo but almost all the comments are people going nuts for this when there are way better ones out there and the other guitarist (Marc Mann) was frankly just as good; they were just different. Sometimes the tone and beautifully placed notes are far superior to super fast technical solos (like from "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" or "From This Moment", short but beautiful).
@ Creed Bratton...THANK YOU someone obviously with some real knowledge of musicianship...I agree with you whole heartedly. And the throwing guitar at end , such a petty and common gesture really...
Prince gave his guitar to Oprah afterwards ? OMG I won't even go into what I think about that....
Prince was an unbelievable player. The look on the faces of the others on stage with him was priceless.
They were in shock because he didn't take part in the planning ,the rehearsal...he just came on and took over the stage . If this was not planned and not known to the others then totally Un cool. Guarantee that would not have ever been allowed during one of his stage performances, someone comes on plays like a crazy solo and then just walks off? Huh..I wonder if the others involved that evening were ever interviewed about that night and the time leading up to it ???
@@mariajobson739 I thought they all looked like they were having a good time but yeah, Prince has major diva energy. Too many front men in the front maybe.
@@mariajobson739. Not true. Prince was at the rehearsal, and planned how the whole thing would go down with Joel Gallen, the producer of the show who asked him to come play. Prince just didn’t play the part during the rehearsal, as Jeff Lynn’s guitarist accidentally cut him off when Prince’s part came up, as he had been practicing playing the original solo note-for-note and got lost in the moment. Prince didn’t want to stop the rehearsal, as he was actually very humble, according to Tom Petty. Before he left, Prince simply reassured Gallen how it would go down at the end, and followed through with the plan at the final performance.
Amazing line up. They all killed it. I love looking at Dhani’s face when Prince plays. He was so stoked to be on the stage with him. Wonderful tribute to his Dad.
Greatest. Guitar. Solo. Ever.
I always say that Prince’s guitar didn’t gently weep but cried for mercy. 😂❤🤘🏻
Prince takes the weeping guitar to a totally new level.
This is a mic-drop moment to the guitar community for Prince. I think he garnered respect as an artist, but he emerges as a Guitar God here

George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne, along with others, were members of the supergroup "The Traveling Wilburys." Dhani is George's son, and is playing this tribute to his dad with his former bandmates, and others, all legends. Btw, one reason Prince wore high heels because he was only 5ft, 2in. tall.

Just when you think it can't get any better, enter Prince with a solo that sets everyone on fire.

Oh, and many congratulations on your new baby girl!
Prince always wore heels PERIOD because he was only 5'2" (no matter how talented you are, everybody has their insecurities). After he had his hip replacements in 2010-11 (related to him jumping off of speakers and being such a dynamic performer for so many years IN HEELS), he did show up to a few events in sneakers.
Jeff Lynne is definitely one of the best song writers, guitarist and singers of all time. ELO is another great band you should listen to if you haven’t already.
Not to mention producer as well.
I beg to differ do even know Neil Peart, the drummer for rush he wrote almost every song they sang, and everyone of those songs have true meanings.

He wore pumps cuz he was short. He was so fine! And so frickin talented.
Steve Winwood is on keyboard. He was in the Spencer Davis Group and Blind Faith, but not Dire Straits. Tom Petty died a year after Prince died. RIP Legends! Dhani Harrison, the young guy next to TP, is George Harrison's son.
Steve Winwood was also in Traffic. The Low Spark of High Heel Boys.
Prince ran away with his solo, and they couldn't do anything but let him. You have to forgive him, because he's...Prince. And then you look back at this moment sadly after his untimely passing.
Knowing about his inflated ego ,I doubt it was a planned solo ,which is great, but kind of took over what was going on with the rest of the musicians on stage. If as they say he didn't rehearsewith the rest beforehand then this is the reason why...surprise, surprise ya'll !
Finally, I find someone who doesn’t bow to the altar of Prince. This was set up by his friends and peers, and Prince was neither . However, since Prince was being inducted into the Hall of Fame that same year, the producer of the show wanted him. There was tension during the rehearsals, but prince kept quiet. Dhani Harrison was strategically placed due to the tension with the other band members. Prince went rogue. A lot of the other members of the band weren’t happy. I did see a clip one time where Dhani was asked his thoughts on the solo and his response was “It was a bit too much”. Overtime and with the passing of Prince, Dhani has softened his thoughts on the subject.
@@edditorthe guitarist was disrespectful to prince at rehearsal by trying to steal his solos, but tom petty and the drummer were honored to play with prince. Prince's solo was magical
Yeah it was kinda a dick move but I loved every second of it.
@@edditor The producer said, "It became one of the most satisfying musical moments in my history of watching and producing live music."
Petty told Prince to do his own thing and to "cut loose". He also said, "You see me nodding at him, to say, “Go on, go on.” I remember I leaned out at him at one point and gave him a “This is going great!” kind of look. He just burned it up. You could feel the electricity of “something really big’s going down here.”"

Stevie Winwood is a solo phenom. He has been in several bands but his solo work is really great.
He was in Traffic and Blind faith and the amazing solo career
This solo was a direct response to not being part of the top guitarists list released by Rolling stone in 2004. The list came out shortly before his HOF induction and he responded with this monster of a shred session. Great reaction!
Steve Winwood, playing the Hammond B3 organ, is a British musician who was a member of 3 masterful bands, beginning when he was only 16 years old. First, blues band The Spencer Davis Group, then Traffic and Blind Faith. Steve can play almost every instrument, but usually leads on the B3 organ or guitar. He became a huge solo star in the 1980's with songs like "While You See a Chance" , "Back in the High Life Again", "Higher Love" - #1 on Billboard, and "Roll With It" in 1988. Please look at "Gimmie Some Lovin" and "I'm a Man", then from Traffic, "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" and "Dear Mr. Fantasy".

@@taramama6658Dhani was actually rude about Prince after the show & said his playing was " gratuitous " .. it was very tense backstage as Prince had been asked if he wanted to rehearse & declined saying he would just show up & play . This was because George Harrisons wife didn't want Prince to play at all as he wasn't a close family friend . Prince found out , played anyway & blew everyone away . Most of the ad libs towards the end by Tom Petty were improvised . It was an amazing tribute & i think personally Dhani could have been a little more gracious . I have watched this a million times! It still brings us tears to my eyes❤❤
That young guy in there is Dhani Harrison, son of Beatles guitar player George Harrison who wrote this song and was great friends with Eric Clapton whom GH brought into a Beatles session to do the guitar solo for this song. George was also besties with Jeff Linde and Tom Petty who were also in the Traveling Willburys with George. Dhani was 16 when his dad died and Tom took him under his wing a bit to help Dhani with some of the diminished chords that George was famous for. George had already taught Dhani how to play and he is good! He looks so much like his dad here at maybe 17? Not sure when they did this. George was 15 when he joined the Beatles!
The young man next to Tom is George's son ... this is a tribute to George Harrison.

For those who think Steve Winwood is just a keyboard player, you should react to his performance of Dear Mr Fantasy, from Crossroads 2007. He is one of the best multi-instrumentalists of all time. He may look like your math teacher has somehow accidentally wondered onto the stage, but that man can sing, and he can play.

Prince had the greatest Super Bowl halftime show. Rocking out, in the rain.
Prince had a "guitar catcher", no joke, as a prince super fan since I was 10 (1982) I always knew what an amazing guitar player he was. People heard his pop songs on the radio but had no idea how prolific he was on drums, piano, bass, electric and acoustic guitar and 20 other instruments. He could (and did) make entire albums by himself. He had so much output he had to release songs under different monikers like The Time, Vanity 6, Appolonia 6, The Family & others. He made songs that would be released by Sheila E, Sheena Easton, Sinead O'Connor, The Bangles, Kenny Rogers, No Doubt, Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, Cindy Lauper, Alicia Keys, Jill Jones, Mazerati, Tevin Campbell & Mavis Staples. He produced songs for people under alter egos like Jamie Starr, Alexander Nevermind, Joey Coco and Christopher. The man was just built different. A true musical genius in every sense with a falsetto that makes everything wet. Good god!
Prince wore heels because his recorded height has him at 5' 3". He seemed much bigger than that with his amazing talents. He wrote all his songs and hits for others. Played many instruments. Also a star basketball player in high school. Loyal Jehovah's Witness and very loyal to his home state of Minnesota. His studio Paisley Park is located there as well as his residents. Prince bucked convention and we all loved him for it.
Yes he was Jehovahs Witness as was MJ...well coming from family that are of the same faith ...the church must have forgiven some of there on stage antics and off stage because they are very strict . You do not promote the sexuality like they both did in their dance moves ,especially Prince. They must have been donating some heavy money to have not been turned away from the church that's all I can figure...
Brother i kept telling you that Prince is in the top guitarists of all time.
I love all the little grins, nods, and laughs between Prince and Tom Petty/Dhani Harrison.
This stage has some of the most epic musicians EVER and it is perfection ❤
