"Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin is often referred to as the "forbidden riff" in guitar stores because it has been overplayed by aspiring guitarists to the point of annoyance. The song's iconic opening riff is one of the most famous and recognizable in rock music, leading many guitar store employees to ban it to preserve their sanity and maintain a peaceful environment. This practice became popularized through a running joke in the 1992 film "Wayne's World," where a sign in a music store reads "No 'Stairway to Heaven,'" cementing its status as a forbidden riff.
