Mordheim Battle Report - Orc Mob vs Shadow Warriors

This is my first Mordheim battle report using two of my starting warbands, The All-Avelorn All-Stars (Shadow Warrior High Elves) and Da Bingin Purge (my Sylvanian themed Orc Mob). I played this game with a friend of mine who had been thinking about the system and wanted to give it another try. It's really more of a demo, so we didn't go into all the nuts and bolts of a campaign. Let me know if you have any questions or comments, and please, try out Mordheim. It's a great campaign game.

Agreed at first shooting doesn’t do much in mordheim outside of a lucky crit or 2, but once you start leveling up and getting skills like nimble+trick shot you can start getting pretty devastating results (in my opinion atleast)

True, although it can be mitigated by people running around with lucky charms and other defensive improvements.

Thanks. I agree that Mordheim is an awesome game, but sadly my current gaming group is not as enthusiastic. I might try a league at a gaming store at some point, but I want to get some more terrain painted first and everything is closed now anyway, so that is a plan for the future.

Great looking warbands. As an Orc player I absolutely loved the Ghostbuster Orc and the spectral gobbos.

Thanks. After a bit of a break painting Vampire Counts and Empire, I’ve come back to painting more Orcs. I’ve forgotten how much I like it.

I like that orc wartband, the looks, of course! But the list too... I think you either take a troll at the beginning, with the cheap max heroes and whatever cheap henchmen you can get... O r Set up a big warband and do all you can to quickly get an Orc to become a hero. or two!
My warband last time around was a
Boss
2 Big ´uns
1 Shaman
5 Bg with short bows
5 Squigs
2 Orcs with crossbows.
Looks cool, is fun - but not good for the economy.. i can barelt replace statistical henchman-losses, if I win and all heroes are on their feet...
I did do well though and got a third crossbow-orc for the third game.. And he was in turn one killed by a team mate by failed Animosity......
Next time i will set up cheaper Orcs with bows (I like having shooting for my orcs!) - in three or four single henchmen groups... And all that matters is to get 1-2 of them to become heroes o I actually earn money and can replace losses! And maybe get some more mebers and equipment.
To me that is the way. Either that or the troll list early. You have fewer models so earn moeny too... Orcs have it rough economy-wise otherwise... Very rough IMHO..

I agree with most of that. Orc troops are good in Mordheim, as are their heroes. But they struggle to make money. I’ve never been able to make big mobs of Orcs and Goblins work. They just struggle to accomplish much. But the Troll fixes that, at least in early games. I love crossbow orcs, though. Once I get a hero or two promoted, they are the next thing I look to buy.

I made quivers from those stikkbomb-bags, cut that off and glued on the Night Goblin´s arrow-ends..

I doubt you'll see this but if you do: a S test is NOT 2d6 it's 1d6. Huge huge difference lol

I believe you are referring to the Shadow Weaver’s Shadowbind spell. In the spell description it specifically says the strength test is on 2D6.

Shadow Warriors look grea, just not very fun to face..
Mordheim is great however.

Yeah, not sure how you cannot like Mordheim.. Probably GW´s best game.

I love it. I keep telling myself I should get it together and organize a campaign. As for the Shadow Warriors, I’m not sure I understand why people hate them so much. I felt like they were in trouble going up against the Orcs (and sure enough they were). Maybe there’s something about how they advance?

@@dmgashbad4908 Yeah.. Honestly, I remember the hatred for them more than why, heh.. But I often dislike Elves.. Too much cruteches to cover up their few weaknesses, it seems.. Even though they have high WS, BS, I, Ld etc.. Then they always have to have some special stuff for S, T, more shooting- crap.. But eh, what do I know. :)
