    IT IS I, THE INTERVIEWEE!
It was great to be able to info-dump about one of my favorite jobs I've ever had! If y'all got any questions, feel free to ask, I'll be as open as I can.
CLARIFICATION: The grenade we found was not the Type 87 shell like I thought, but just a Type 97 fragmentation grenade. Similar, but not the same. Also, the knee mortar was not launched on the knee, American GIs returning back home incorrectly assumed that. Forgotten Weapons on youtube has a great video with more info.
    Thanks, Azeal!

Like I kid you not grandma would go buy groceries after parents just bought some, so now there are 7 loafs of bread on the counter (because if there's a sale she has to buy them). She tried to pawn off a steak on me that was brown once and I told her it wasn't any good anymore, showing her the date

The gas you mentioned late in the video is called CS gas. It's not actually a gas, but small sharp particles that bury and cut into fabrics and skin. Marines in boot camp actually get "gassed" by this substance. It sucks for a number of reasons, mainly because if you try to shower it off with warm water, the vapor will lift the particles up and reactivate it. It can be deadly if breathed in because it will cause your lungs to create lots of mucus, leading to the clogging of your lungs. It takes about 5 mins of breathing it before it becomes a serious concern. However, if you don't die, it'll completely clean out your airway.

fun story about grenades. i work at a papermill and many years ago we got a shipment of logs from somewhere down in europe and the metal detector on the conveyor belt stopped the line, when the operators went out to look, they found an old WW2 frag grenade lodged in one of the logs. the police where called and the bomb squad blew it up outside the building.

Very recently, I finished cleaning my own room, which was a two years in the making. Luckily for me, I had tried at least twice before and thus no real like mold. Or anything insanely awful was there. But it still took me a couple weeks and there was a lot. But you are completely right in a lot of aspects. The feeling of standing back and looking at a room, which is pretty much clean after it was horrendous is just amazing. And for anyone who may be struggling to clean a room in their house or just their room and is reading this comment. The best thing I can suggest, for you is to divide the room up into sections. And determining which one you feel like you can do at that moment. And it doesn’t need to be done in one day or one week or whatever. You can take as long as it takes. As long as you’re still doing stuff, it’s still progress. Or at least that’s how I looked at it. Either way keep on keeping on. And thank you for reading this comment.

There were times in my life where I think my family were horders. When my stepdad was alive, he collected action figures. They were everywhere. When he passed unexpectedly, my mom tried to hold on to them but she just couldn't stand the sight of them and got rid of most of them. She was sad to look at them and sad to be rid of them too. It sucked for her. It's best to just let things go at times. We definitely are not neatfreaks by no means, but we do get a little messy and dirty at times. Not as horrid as any average hoader, but we are lazy and could use a extra bit of motivation. In time. Anyhow, take care of yourselves, change what you can, and you'll be fine.

I feel for people that work these sorts of jobs. I have mad respect for him for being able to step up and take on jobs of such magnitude and importance. He’s stronger than me in that respect.
Reminds me of something I ran into at my job. For context, I work at a local thrift store, and we sometimes go out around town to pick up donations that some people can’t bring to the store themselves. Me, another guy, and the store boss actually went on a pickup to a place being cleaned up by one of these hoarder cleaning crews, about a month or two ago.
The hoarder in question moved to my city from Georgia. The lil’ detached single-car garage next to the house was filled 80% of the way, floor to ceiling, back wall to the garage door, with pristine boxes of packaged up items that hadn’t been touched since they moved to my city - about fifteen years, if I recall.
We backed up the trailer to the garage, the other guy started bringing boxes to me, and I used my “superior Tetris stacking” to organize all the boxes in the trailer. If I had been swapped out for anyone else, like one of the boss’ sons, they would’ve easily had to make two trips, but I managed to neatly stack it into one. Took about 60-90 minutes.
Now the full trailer is sitting in my boss’ detached TWO-car garage, waiting for space at our warehouse to be dumped off and properly sorted through. But who knows how long that’ll be! I hope the big guy enjoys having all that occupying HIS place now. Who knows if one of these crews might have to go take care of all that too someday, just rinse and repeat.

    I remember watching hoarders
I have met a few myself back when I lived in Texas
Never a pretty sight nor a happy one
It's always sad and mostly depressing
And hoarding isn't always in their house where they live it can be a shed or a garage or even their yards
I remember climbing around on a hoard once when visiting a family friend
Wasn't pretty and little me shouldn't have been doing so but I did
Hoarding tends to hit a lot of the older folks
    Especially when they are alone
It's a real mental disorder and it's not a kind one to the person who developed it
    It's in some cases lethal
You hear about people getting crushed by moving mounds or pets dying in holes and not being found for years
    It's nasty
And so many treat these people so horribly and think them dumb or lazy
    They are not
They are ill and need help most of all
They don't enjoy living in squalor no one does they just can't break the hold it has on them either mentally or physically for the older folks

Your videos helped me not only realize that everyone, not just those I don’t know, have a huge effect on the life around me, but also that questioning everything, no matter what answer is given, is the key to success in life. If I don’t know something, I ask “why?” After that answer is said, I then ask “How?” And so on and so forth. Asking those questions after receiving answers rather than asking them all at once is what leads to the truth. Being patient when finding the truth and knowing that it may not all be sunshine and rainbows, but the world wouldn’t be half as advanced as it is now without the darkness of the world to give us perspective.

As someone who comes from a moderate hoarder house (my dad is a hoarder and I gave up trying to clean up after him) these kind of stories bring me an odd comfort because 1: at least it's not THAT bad... and 2: there is hope that it CAN be cleaned some day...

Wow, a really gross story but also interesting and just a lot of good info on how to take care of a mess. I had a story where my sister works in a retail grocery store where an elderly customer decided to just start shitting diria and still continue shopping wail just shitting, so my sister and her coworker just coldent stomic it to clean this up. They had another coworker clean it up that could stomic it, and they coldent find this customer because she had cheked out of the store allready. I also had to deal with bed bugs. I know all too well how difficult they are to deal with.

I had the job to clear houses from dead people. It was a side job of the company that specialised in pest control.
I work there for three weeks to try out the job of pest control.
We were in a apartment in a multi story building to clear it out. (i think 6th floor or a bit higher)
I had the task to clear out the fridge because i was the new one and i had the honor to carry out the coutch where the person died on and layed on for i dont know how long.
I will never forget the smell of both.
Even worse one day i was shopping at a supermarket and a old man in front of me had the same smell on him.
It was so hard not to puke on the spot.

Cat houses were the exact reason why i thought i didnt like or want cats growing up. I genuinely hated the smell of a litter box and it didnt matter what the cat did to make up for it. Then my fiance and i discovered flushable litter and its been a godsend

    • @nitroglycerific9295

Clay, paper, and wood litters are notorious for their poor smell retention, but a much better option in my experience is silica crystal litter. It sucks up all the moisture from the waste, thereby eliminating the primary means of smell transmission into the air. I have three cats and don't smell their litter boxes ever.

On some cursory googling, the Clear Out canisters are aerosol tear gas grenades with a 1% mixture of CS (2-chlorobenzalmalononitrile, aka “tear gas”). These things are used in situations where traditional CS grenades are not an option because of, for example, a fire risk (see Waco).
These things are more like a big bug bomb, except for use against humans instead of insects.

I honestly hope I never become a hoarder. I may have some tendencies but I’m not sure. My grandmother is definitely a hoarder. She wasn’t on TV show level, but she was close. My aunts old bed was always covered in clothes, and the dining table was covered with random nicknacks except when we needed that space for holidays. She had a second freezer and we cleaned it out one day. It looked like snow in there, but it was solid, and everything was spoiled. We cleaned a lot after my grandpa died, so it’s better now.

My dad had to duck down because of the sheer amount of trash on the floor, anyways when he went into the woman’s room it was FILLED ceiling to ceiling with used puppy pads that she used and just stacked. over the past summer I've cleaned up a couple sheds in my garden that had not been properly taken care of in some 20 years. hundreds of potential projects for which only the materials had been gathered, and tens of household items we thought we'd repair at some point. Imagine having to use a shovel to clean dust. By the time I was done I had probably removed some 10 lb of rat shit (not too bad, cause by the time I got there it didn't smell any more, it was just tiny dry pellets). I now have a nice & neat tool shed & workshop.
