    Edifier R1280T on bhphotovideo: bhpho.to/2OgmT1r
Edifier R1280T on amazon DE: amzn.to/2n7NUGP
    -------------------------------
Edifier R1280T for a long time was my top choice in under 100 dollars category but I expected Presonus Eris E3.5 to challenge Edifier for the top spot. Did E3.5 manged to best Edifier R1280T? Yes and no. Right off the bat, Edifier still is the bass champion in this category, its bass reaches deeper and is more dynamic. E3.5 has respectable bass response for this size and price, it just lacks a bit of punch compared to R1280T, but this also may be a good news if You look for more precise bass response for music production for example. Midrange and the top end is where Presonus bests Edifier, midrange of E3.5, even if it is not perfectly neutral, sounds more natural and detailed than Edifier's midrange. Same applies to top end.
Edifier wins when we take a look at build quality, it is more stylish, sturdier and, on top of that, it has remote control which is always nice.
To sum this up, if You need fun sounding speaker for games movies and music, than Edifier stillmay be better choice, but if You need a cheap speaker for music production or You just look for fairly neutral speaker for music listetning than Presonus is a better choice.
What do You think? Which sounds better in Your opinion? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers!

@@temp1temp218 hello, you have a point. usually bigger is better. like, 8" is more powerful than 4". but the size of room matters together. putting tall boys in small rooms sometimes can be not very wise. in fact, i have a pair of eris 4.5 and i think they are also great for movies. but bass boosted speakers like edifiers(i guess) can be more fun if 'fun' is more important than 'quality'

I just unpacked the E3.5 Eris on my desk and MAN WAS I BLOWN AWAY. Even on something as heavily compressed as the audio of a youtube video, these bring out details that I was not hearing with my older computer speakers. I'm not a content creator. I simply wanted a high quality set of speakers and didn't have a lot of money to spend. THESE HIT THE MARK AND THEN SOME!!

I just found this channel and I am loving it. Aside from the awesome demo in the video, what makes this channel super awesome is the comments section. I learned a lot just by reading everyone's comments (Ok, maybe not everyone's since there are too many.)
I'm now leaning more towards the Presonus since I will be using it on my editing station. I originally wanted the Edifier but that clarity coming from the Presonus is just irresistible.

The vocals and "Deep" are just vividly real with my eyes closed my head just says "there's a person in front of you!" We got presonus e3.5bt's and eventually upgraded with the $200 subwoofer.

I've found that the Edifier sounds much more close to the listener with vocals and bass seemingly coming form, say, a few feet in front of you. Very "intimate" with the midrange which, to me, sounds super enjoyable. The Edifier are also much more bassy with "deeper" reach and a louder presence overall. Personally this deeper bass isn't always preferred since sometimes the Edifier seems to lack control or "speed" to keep up with some tracks, causing the bass to seem too "boomy" thus muddying up the separation between sounds depending on the genre.
The Presonus on the other hand are much more neutral if not leaning towards bright/ treblely. As a treblehead, I love it and don't find myself fatigued by the sound. Generally this clarity in mids and highs leads to an overall more analytical, clean, and accurate sound as compared to the Edifier. The Presonus also serves up bass, but not nearly to the quantity as the Edifier. The Presonus' bass is very tight, controlled, and therefore, "punchy", coming in exactly where it should be, although not providing the same "stomp your feet/ rock your head" sound that the Edifier naturally produces. The "speed" and detail are also more pronounced on the Presonus.
For me, I choose Presonus because of my history with treble leaning headphones and comfort in a "neutral" sound although, on the fewer tracks that I prefer to hear on the Edifier, I REALLY prefer them over the Presonus, if that makes sense.

okay, thanks to you I made my decision, I ordered the Edifier r1280t and can't wait to have it.
I can clearly hear that the Eris e3.5 are way more crispy and clear, high frequencies sound more clear and defined. they have a flatter sound and are better for mixing and producing. but I'll go with the Edifier since all I want is to feel the music and have a good volume so I can host small parties and just enjoy the music I love, I will not use them to produce, so that bass boost is something I'd like to have. thanks!

A reason for me to order the Edifier. I only listen to music with it and watch movies on my PC. I don't mix any music.. and they don't need to sound as neutral (like maybe for musicians).
    Thanks for the video.

And this is how a shootout is supposed to be.....Great job DSAudio!!! I've been recording, arranging and mixing for 40+ years. Have been orbiting around these two cheap monitor speakers for my home recording studio and now I know that the PreSonus are my favorite because they are more "airy" and open without making me tired in the long grueling mixing sessions. I get the same feeling with my old, cheap and reliable AKG K-66 headphones, which I'll never change because they are very light and open. The Edifier are obviously better in the very low frequencies, but heavy on the mid-low and harsh on the very high frequencies, which in time wears my brain out.

Listening through the whole video I came to the conclusion that I couldn’t listen to Edifier for a longer time. The clarity and pureness of Presonous are very convincing. Even if the Edifier had a tad deeper bass, the Presonus was som much on spot bass (pure bass) than Edifiers muddy low bass. Again a plus for Presonus Eris E 3,5. Gonna order them today. Thanks for this video!

It depends on the room. If you'd use them in a small room, PreSonus all the way. On a bigger room you may like Edifier more.
And if you are using them for a mini sudio, like creating music, recording and such, then stay away from the Edifier pair from this vid.
To my ears, they appear to have some missing/muted High-mid frequency... so you dont want that.
I'd probably use the PreSonus + a subwoofer (when needed)

This made up my mind. I dont produce music, neither do I mix. I do rather like to just listen to music and unwind. And for that purpose Edifier R1280T wins for me. The style of music I mostly listen to suits the more open, slightly coloured for deeper bass than the studio monitors. Not to mention the Edifier has a better aesthetics for a home set up. Edifier is a speaker for the average consumer that wants more "high fidelity" sounding speaker for their set up. The Eris E3.5 are studio monitors, thus flatter and more precise sound. If you produce music or mix music, then you should go Eris E3.5.

Edifier's strongest feature is the bass and is better for "just having fun". Presonus is a better "monitor" because sound is more neutral and detailed. What about if we want to add a subwoofer to the mix in the near future? Will the Presonus then be a better bet for me that like listening my music (but already have a Sennheiser HD600 for that), but also like playing my games and watching my movies?

Imo, the first song is the only one where the Edifier is better with it's low end extension.
When the music gets more "crowded" with many instruments, which is the case in most situations, the Eris is better with more forward mids presence which results in more detail and clarity.
Thanks for the great tests !

In a vacuum, the Edifier's sound pretty good. But every time the video switches over to the Presonus', the sound is a lot cleaner. The Edifier have somewhat of an "in your face" effect, which I commonly find in bluetooth speakers appealing to every-day users who don't have a lot of experience with audio gear. At first, you're amazed "How does so much sound come out of this little thing!?". But after a while I find those - however V-tuned - pretty flat in things like dynamics and the wow-factor wears off pretty quickly. the Eris' are much more neutral in that regard, but they'll probably sound more pleasing to listen to once you get used to them. How do I put it... They sound more... reserved. That opinion is based off just this video though, so keep that in mind.

This comment is a year old, but I wouldn't have put it in a better way. I own a pair of Edifier R1700BT and at the beginning I was like "Wow!", coming from a small Creative computer speakers. Then as time passed my ears got tired of the muffled sound, boomy bass and lack of clarity, so I've done my research again and listened to lot of speaker battles in this channel, then I've ordered the Presonus Eris E3.5BT for better clarity, small form factor, the volume knob and power switch at the front. In terms of user experience those two features are key to me for near field/desktop usage. I'm not into music production/mixing, I just want to listen to music with clarity, just want the truth and no more lies 😄

Some say about the E3.5 that the highs/trebles trend to be too present, well I kinda like that for starters and there's always a knob at the back to lower them if desired, but still getting clear and truthful sound. I believe these are for me and I'm gonna love them being for a small home office sitting right in front of me. I plan to use them for Zoom and MS Teams work calls too so sounds like others' voices are gonna sound clearer too.

Judging sound using youtube and headphones is not the "proper" way to evaluate, but we can hear a clear difference between the two speakers. Presonus more clear due to sharper treble and Edifier more bass heavy, maybe due to different tweeter and bass reflex port in front. I am a bass head but i do prefer the presonus treble.

  • @dbreardon

Presonus is more of a studio monitor while the Edifier R1280T is more of a standard bookshelf speaker system. Also, what was the distance from the back wall for both of these speakers. Presonus has the base hole port to the rear of the speaker while Edifier is front facing. If there is more than a foot or two away from wall, the listener will lose out on the bassier tones on the Presonus due to lack of sound bounce back from the wall.

The difference a .5 inch makes. The R1280T is a good one, maybe not for monitoring; I will notion that's the same case for the Presonus, the surface area is not large enough. I may still attempt to mix on the cheap R1280T, they're not meant for that....they are only 100 dollars on Amazon and it has the range 55Hz and up.

I have to laugh when I read some of these comments that say things like "The Eris are studio monitors but the Edifiers are better for casual music listening". When you listen to music you are listening to music that was more than likely mixed and mastered using studio reference monitors. Obviously, the closer your reproductions system is to the system on which it was mixed and mastered, the more closely you will hear the music the way it was intended. Yes, the Eris monitors are a lot flatter than the Edifiers, and that IS because they are studio monitor speakers. Cheap speakers are made to color the sound you hear so that it is appealing when first listening to them because the manufacturers want to dupe you into purchasing their speakers. The sound of the Eris are much more honest to the actual recording. If you need more bass response, not artificial color in the bass frequencies, get a quality subwoofer. However, I am continually amazed at how good the Eris monitors really are, right out of the box. For the hell of it I connected them to an old Mackie 10" subwoofer I had laying around my studio just to see how the Eris speakers would sound with the bass linearly extended down to about 40Hz. I can honestly say that, with the subwoofer, the little Eris speakers perform just as well as the KRK Rokit 5 G4s (with 10" PreSonus Trembor subwoofer) that I have attached to my auxiliary DAW. Given that the Rokits cost $380 a pair, that really is saying something about a pair of $100 monitors!

I thought the Eris looked good but I keep finding reviews that say the quality control is bad, either speakers start making popping sounds, or start hissing. Or just fail. So this has put me off the Eris. I found a review that sayst the Edifier is well engineered and is almost silent even when listening very close to the speaker.

Hey all, months of reviewing and researching have boiled me down to these 2 main speakers (and maybe the wildcard Edifier R1010BT included in the discussion too).
In 2019, where I live, the R1280 now has BT 4.0, and goes for about USD$70, while the Eris 3.5 is about USD$100. The R1010BT goes for an enticing USD$55.
I’m mainly a gamer, but like to think I prefer listening to my music at a *very* slight higher quality than the average joe / average gamer. I am *not* in any way a content creator or have any intention to professionally work with music, and would prefer the less harsh, probably less accurate and less flat of the two.
Any recommendations as to which would be better for me?

    • @DSAUDIOreview
      @DSAUDIOreview  5 років тому +2

Out of these three I would pick R1280T, but I would also advise to save up a bit more and buy R1700BT which is far superior to all of these and best bang per buck in my opinion

Hi. I'm about to buy one of these sets of speakers for listening rather than producing music. My favourite genre is modern choral music though so I would really appreciate if someone included, let's say a piece of Eric Whitacre with a big choir or even something like Voces 8, in the comparison. I have already checked some Sonos speakers and they sounded very disappointing for choral music. Thank you

I did not expect such a clear superiority of R1280T compared to Eris 3.5 : Although the sound is a bit less accurate.. but more balanced and complete tonally ( for listening music ). For that price and size, it is the speaker to be surpassed.

Eris has more bite, better mids and highs and sounds clearer like on Full Speed. But for me rn in 2019, it’s USD$70 for the R1280DB, USD$100 for the Eris 3.5. And the Edifiers now have BT 4.0. Tough choice indeed.
