Thank you DSAUDIO for this comparaison test. For my taste the R1280DBs are far more accurate. I assume that you didn't made any bass or treble correction. Some people suggest to do that on the 1700, but that's always miss leading when you start doing some tweaking. In my mind that a speaker must be as close as possible to the original music without any "correction". R1280 is the one!
I got my 1280DBs’ today. They’re good. Really good. I was considering Vanatoo T0”s but am not motivated now. I have expensive headphones like Shure 846 and 1840 and this is better nearfield by far. Great soundstage. Clear vocals. Bass is good. Even Skrillex. Can play louder than I can stand. Can’t complain at all. Easy to believe they can’t be good given the price but having taken the risk they’re really excellent. Enjoying the music a lot and highly recommend
@@IKIGAIofficiali think he meant the "s" in DBs. it marks the updated version vs the original DB. i got mine yesterday, and they are a bit weird. sometimes they sound great! sometimes they sound like they are out of phase. but all the time they lack mid highs
I have the R1280Ts on my desk and a pair of R1280DB on the other side of my office/game room setup in fake surround (the back speakers just play the exact same audio from a y-cable splitter). I love it, sounds great. The DBs are louder than the Ts and have more inputs but I would suggest anyone looking at the R1280DB get the R1280DBs because they have the added convenience of a sub out. Also, running the Ts and the BTs using Bluetooth adds about a 10-20ms delay on the BTs so I had to use a 30 foot (9.1m) cable to run the DBs hardwired and remove the delay. P.S. It's very annoying Edifier named them R1280DBs instead of R1280DBS because the correct way to pluralize R1280DB is to add a lower case "s" which makes it hugely confusing and why I mistakenly bought the R1280DB instead of the R1280DBs; I thought people were just pluralizing the name.
The problem is that since the R1280DBs has a coaxial connection, which allows for more data transmission and higher audio quality, compared to the outdated RCA input on the R1700BTs, it makes the R1280DBs approximately 3% better or more, despite its inferior hardware, due to the superior connection.
BTs is more bassy and "focus", meaning better sound quality because of a slightly bigger treble (tweeter). DBs is balanced and "spread" to the mic, some people like it better because of the wider sound. If you want better sound, choose BTs. If you want a more "soothing" lower sound, choose DBs.
I find the 1700s with a more clear sound overall. I feel the 1280s have a more balanced sound, but their highs are not that clear, they sound with a kind of reverb. The 1700s have more clear highs but they sound "tiny", their bass overpowers their highs, but I'm sure this can be fixed with proper EQ. In the lows I find them pretty similar but the 1700s go a bit deeper, which is not necessarily a good thing as, to my taste, both of them already are excessively bassy. In summary: 1280s better balance, 1700s better clarity; overall I prefer the 1700s sound.
I like that the 1280 is more ‘airy’ and somehow has a wider soundstage. The trick to turning the bass down fully and tremble slightly higher might make it sound better. Pick what you like. Really a preference for value speakers of this range.

Exactly, 1700bts suffers from mid. It is difficult for me to listen on dialogues while watching movie. If I increase the volume, those backgroud music will be too loud for me to handle. I am planning to buy 1280bts next month.
Listening on my Marantz amplifier with a pair of the well known for their neutrality Mission LX-2+ bookshelf speakers. On my ears the recorded r1280dbs sound had tonality very close to the original tracks. Like they're playing the tracks as it should be with less colored sound. Especially on the classical track Bellisimo i barely hear any differences, excepting the wider frequency range extension on both hight and low spectrum when listening to the original recording which was expected. The r1700bts are better in terms of clarity and the bass is tighter and faster, but the overall tonality of their recorded sound is way different from what I hear from the original tracks playing directly. Not in bad way anyways, just not so true to the original recording Thanks for the nice comparison demo. I decided and purchased the r1280dbs as gift for my daughter. Hope she will like them.
The 1700 should be a better speaker on paper with the larger tweeter and better quality woofer (not just laminated paper cone). But maybe it's overpowering the mids. I wonder if turning down the highs slightly would put it more in line with the more coherent sounding 1280DBS?
The 1280DBS is the better speaker if you prefer neutral sound with no over emphasis towards a particular frequency. It's the best budget audiophile speakers for a balanced sound, well worth the price range, especially if you using to connect to a turntable for Vinyl listening...
Something changed with the R1700 series. The non "s" version was more clear, and beat the R1280DB normally. Jeez cant even buy no speakers because only one letter more. Instantly take the tweeter from the 1200 and put it on the 1700's..it's odd how much worse the high end sounds on the 1700's. The Bass on the 1700's seems to soundy uncontrolled and booms constantly. It has the 'empty large room boom'
There is a huge difference. The 1280 have a ducky/nosy sound compared to the 1700 which are a lot richer and balanced. I find the 1280 particularly unatural on vocals. Thank you for your test; I was about to buy the 1280 but won't now. I need better quality as a former musician.
I don't know why, but it sounds to me like the R1700BTs are being "strangled" in this video, struggling to bring the sound out. The 1280DBs sound better in every test here.

The 1700dbs sounds cleaner with less "added" reverb. I don't know which one I would prefer over long periods of listening but it seems like the 1700dbs would sound better with varying music compared to the 1280dbs. But I need to take a little more time to decide which one to buy. One big downside is the connectors on the 1700dbs is more limiting than the 1280dbs because they lack the digital connections and I really want that for my home theater set up. So idk yet. If there is a version of 1700dbs with those connectors I will likely buy that one.

You don't open these cabinets up to compare all of the components, do you? I'd love to see the difference in components between products. It'd be neat to know when the only difference between products is the cabinet. Especially, between brands.
I always see on reviews " there is more mids on this" " the highs are more pronounced on that one" and etc ... But you can always EQ the speakers to sound the way you like (these speakers even have bass, mid and treble knobs) . So aren't these kind of information irrelevant? Just trying to understand, I'm new in this field. Thank you!
EQ is is not fo free, it costs huge distortion rise due speaker/amplifier limitations. Even flat EQ THD of this speakers is very close to unacceptable level.
@@swanteson What you said I think makes sense, when I use the APO Equalizer the sound sounds harsher and compressed compared to when I don't use it, of course the advantage of rolling the treble with dsp is nice, but you pay the price .
Based on the infrared receiver/input indicator on both speakers positioned on the left in the video, I wish to highlight that the left & right channels of both pairs of speakers here have been reversed, with the result that natural 3D stereo imaging & realism is lost during music playback and both pairs of speakers are not really sounding at their best. It is absolutely vital to ensure correct placement of left and right speakers to enjoy your music or movies. Otherwise you'll find the car whizzing by on the left of your TV monitor screen while the sound effect is coming from the right speaker. I own the Edifier R1280DBS and the Edifier manual has stated that the active speaker with infrared receiver/input indicator on the front and input, volume, bass & treble controls at the back is the right channel speaker and should be positioned on the right, while the other passive speaker is the left channel speaker and should be positioned on the left. I have verified this independently by playing back left/right stereo channel test videos available on UA-cam. I've also sampled a number of your other videos and they too have this incorrect speaker placement where you have reversed the left & right channels of speakers under review. As consolation, I note that there are other reviewers who also habitually positioned the active speaker on the left, and passive speaker on the right and inadvertently reversing the left and right channels with the same result that natural 3D stereo imaging is also lost during music playback in their videos.

hi man, the speaker arrived. not bad at all, the bass is very good, even at stock eq. the tweeter might be abit 'dark', but can be solved with increasing the eq knob. its heavy and has a solid feel too. however, as an previous r1280db owner, this speaker's main difference is that it just have more bass than my previous ones, maybe it could have more detail in the high frequencies, but i mainly use bluetooth so it might because of a poor audio source.
@nodyelk which ever you pick is insane good for that money too good sound i think i have the 1750db defenlty pick db nodel and to have controller and Bluetooth
The R1280DB i think best for home theatre effect. Coz the clarity of the sound n bass balance. While R1700BT i simply can tell who love music with rich of bass. The bass so booming. Can feel grove easily. Thus, it merging other effects make the sound produced not sharp n nor clear enough in comparison.

@@Pyatnicky спасибо!
Однозначно 1700. Но думаю т5 не буду брать к ним , может быть ямаху
@@Pyatnicky по факту выходит что средние и высокие чище на 1700?
1700bts sound way more clear
Very good comparison method followed. Thanks for this video it helps :)
You don't open these cabinets up to compare all of the components, do you? I'd love to see the difference in components between products. It'd be neat to know when the only difference between products is the cabinet. Especially, between brands.
for rock metal which one better?
1280dbs is way better in clearity and widespread
The problem with 1700BTs are mid frequencies... The Curve is like a smile...
R1280DBs i think
I always see on reviews " there is more mids on this" " the highs are more pronounced on that one" and etc ... But you can always EQ the speakers to sound the way you like (these speakers even have bass, mid and treble knobs) . So aren't these kind of information irrelevant? Just trying to understand, I'm new in this field. Thank you!
EQ is is not fo free, it costs huge distortion rise due speaker/amplifier limitations. Even flat EQ THD of this speakers is very close to unacceptable level.
@@swanteson what about DSP EQ?
@@tarcisio_menezes Does DSP magic change speaker and TI amplifier distortion curves? In most cases you can only reduce HF/LF level safely.
@@swanteson
What you said I think makes sense, when I use the APO Equalizer the sound sounds harsher and compressed compared to when I don't use it, of course the advantage of rolling the treble with dsp is nice, but you pay the price .
Can someone please tell me the name of the song "metal head"? I can't find it! Thank you!
En el 1700 como que se ahogan los medios, aún así me gusta más que en el 1280
hi i love your videos, but when a comparison with Focal Shape 50?
I will have Shape 40 tests planned. No Shape 50 though
Wow... The 1700s do a way better job of reproducing the tone of the source track. Did you do anything to the audio in post? Comp, EQ, etc?
why would he do anything to the audio if it's literally a comparison video
Thank verymuch for the review.
Лучший канал 😊Очень помогает. Спасибо !
I am buying the AT LP60XBT turn table and was wondering if I should get the Edifier R1280DBs versus Edifier R1280DB? There’s a $10 difference and couldn’t decide which speakers would be best
Буква "s" означает возможность подключения активного сабвуфера. В остальном они идентичные.
I like the best source track.
Whose song is “Demons” I really wanna know!
Мне кажется, что тут дело вкуса. Лично мне больше 1700-е понравились. Звучат чище. В 1280-х на некоторых композициях создавалось впечатление звука из коробки.
1700 звучит получше как будто бы, жаль у него нет оптического разъема, как у 1280 есть и провод для подключения пассивной колонки к активной специфичный чуть
Clearly 1280 is superior in midrange and highs while 1700 is sound as if you add a loudness. That's why most of people like the 1700. But if you want something close to monitors then the 1280 is the best speaker.
Hello all, which speakers will be sound more good in low volume on the table?
Sta uzeti R1280DB ili R1280DBs?
for small parties at home with electronic music, pop and hip hop, which is the best? r1280bts, r1700bts or r1855? I have a sub pioneer 8 inchs
Could Digital Stereophony give suggestion-comment? I have the same question..
personally, I prefer r1700bts more. the 1280 makes me feel thirsty...
Are u adjusting bass or treble knob?
just got my r1700bt right now and I wonder why I hear more bass from the recording with YOUR r1700BT than MY r1700bt playing the original tracks. are my speakers bad? I feel like my speaker's bass is somewhat lacking compared to what I see on r1700bt demos,,,
The positioning is wrong. Put the speakers on the table. Go sit with your back touching the wall and the speakers facing you. You'll hear the bass
Which speaker can play louder?
Which one for a Sony x900h TV? (With bluetooth)
hi, can you have more videos of the r2000db? I've been eyeing on your uploads they're no longer being compared. requesting this as I'm planning to buy em.
Not any time soon. I do not own them any more.
thank you for the reply, however, does the r2000db in your mind still hold up its performance being a 5 year old model? understandable if you forgot on detail how it sounds like. thanks mate
I'm also looking at the R2000DB. R1280DBs doesn't exist where I live.
@@parsastrife6629 hi mate, just bought the r2000db just now. ill tell u my impressions when it arrives in 3-5days.
hi man, the speaker arrived. not bad at all, the bass is very good, even at stock eq. the tweeter might be abit 'dark', but can be solved with increasing the eq knob. its heavy and has a solid feel too. however, as an previous r1280db owner, this speaker's main difference is that it just have more bass than my previous ones, maybe it could have more detail in the high frequencies, but i mainly use bluetooth so it might because of a poor audio source.
It would have been a better comparison if the 1280 DB's were angled up the way the 1700's are [by design]
For metal 1280 is the clear winner
What is the best usb+wireless speakers ?
S3000pro
@@babushkinvnuk gonna go E25HD, but ty for the answer
R1700dbs กับ R1850dbs ค่า dba เท่ากัน กำลังขับ w ต่างกันนิดเดียว ความดังจึงไม่ต่างกัน ค่าย่านความถี่ต่ำ ก็ต่างกันนิดเดียว แต่ R1700db จะไห้เสียงชัดกว่าเพราะไห้กำลังขับ W แยกกับ ทวิตเตอร์ 😊😊😊😊
R1280 has better tuning. Sounds more balanced. The 1700 is too bass heavy.
ตามหลักแล้ว R1700sbs เสียงต้องดีกว่าแน่นอน เพราะใช้กำลังขับ w แยก
Title of metalhead song please
Im betwwen 1700bt and 1280dbs which to take ?
@nodyelk yes i went for 1750 bd but 1700 is also good for what it is it s worth the money they are very good
@nodyelk which ever you pick is insane good for that money too good sound i think i have the 1750db defenlty pick db nodel and to have controller and Bluetooth
Where I am the R1280DB is almost half the price of the R1700BT.
Los edifier r1280dbs suenan con un sonido más agudo y saturado que en lo personal no me gusta, en comparación con los R1700BTs.
Wats the deal with all this Edifier speakers?
1280DBs ALL DAY !!!!
muito bom, obrigado!
R1280DBS is better overall. R1700BTS sounds muddier (more bass prominent).
good sound for a nice price
Measurements?
Would you be able to test other brands?
Never
The R1280DB i think best for home theatre effect. Coz the clarity of the sound n bass balance. While R1700BT i simply can tell who love music with rich of bass. The bass so booming. Can feel grove easily. Thus, it merging other effects make the sound produced not sharp n nor clear enough in comparison.
1700 has better high frequencies but that bass will be annoying. I need something in-between
Wich would better?
1280T is what you want. Very clear and bright tunes and balanced frequencies
Edifier r1700 bt 👌
R1280DB!
R1280DBs HANDS DOWN WINS!!!! R1700BTs is very bad calibrated too much low freq at default setting and sounds like boxed audio
