I just swapped a stock 212 on my craftsman snowblower and it makes more power then the old 9.5 horse briggs and is much quieter also. Now i see why you guys love these engines
Ya got to remember old school ! Lock the crank , add compressed air to the plug hole and use a lever type spring tool .No seal , add oil . The air pressure holds the valves closed and in place while spring are removed an replaced . Ike's boss must know this one ! Good videos Guys .
A trick I have used for compressing springs... zip ties. Keep the pressure evenly spaced out by using 3-4 ties and tighten them each a little at a time. Your mileage may vary epending on the weight rating/stiffness of the spring.
*CarsandCameras* She's a thumper! Can't wait to see it in a street legal golf cart! Glad they legalized it in your town. Whenever I go to a nearby great lakes (Michigan) beach town I always see golf carts rocking around the streets, I always found it unfair those folks can do it at their liesure while around here we would be ticketed and possibly have the cart confiscated. Not sure on that, but I may try and push my luck 😁. On a side note, I have an old 1988 Polaris Trail Boss 250R 2wd and figured it would interest you to know those 250 2 strokers make from 20-30hp and have an excellent torque converter and fwd/neutral/rev gearbox-so keep your eye out for a used cheap one. Thank you for the excellent videos.
I just got my 150 carter talon go kart converted to 420cc last night. It took about 2 weeks because I had to wait on shipping and I had to modify the frame for clearance but I was able to use the original axle by using a long jackshaft on pillow blocks and the chain actually runs underneath the engine rather than next to it
Ike, with the valve spring tool you couldn’t get to work. Put a hose clamp around the arms and tighten it down. It will keep the arms from spreading when you start compressing the spring. This hose clamp trick also helps with gear and pulley pullers to keep the arms from slipping off in shallow pulleys.
I have a big block Subaru 300cc that I put on a garden tractor. It was a factory starter delete, and had a plate in, but I took it off and put some mesh there for better cooling because the engine kept overheating and boiling the gas in the metal tank. I also added a fan, and drilled holes in the shroud.
You can add air, you can add fuel, you can get exhaust flow, you can out a big cam in it, BUT without compression all you got is sound and few extra horses but you need to calculate compression ratio, dome piston, or small chamber head to take advantage of the other stuff. You have just changed parts that isn't building a engine BUT! I know y'all don't have much time on your hands but still cool videos
Make a ricer golf cart! I think it would be funny to see a slammed purple golf cart with cambered wheels and I’ve always wondered if you could use a 1 inch universal joint as a CV joint for rear wheels that way you can get negative camber. Love the vids, can’t wait to see the finished golf cart!
Isaac it'll be fine I am guessing you just got thrown off because you were on the other side of the engine and accidentally tightened. Hopefully no chinese threads were damaged and no helicoils were purchased 😅
Did you ever get that put on? I would love to see your build. I am building a Cushman package kar. Well restoring anyway. it had an M9 but only had 30lbs compression. So I went to find out how much rebuild was and said screw that!
You guys sure do things the hard way. Get a simple aviation type valve spring tool! pack cylinder with some rope. Depress the springs and remove the keepers!
You should be able to add compressed air to the cylinder through the spark plug hole at TDC (kinda like a backwards compression tester set up) and it will hold the valves shut in order to change the springs without pulling the head off...just a little tip from your old uncle Ed
Take a old spark plug break the glass off remove the internals and weld a air fitting to the back of the plug threads. When you screw the new device in add/connect an air hose to the new fitting, it will keep the valves seated and allow you to do the work!
I see a lot of big boxes over by the truck 😉 Cant wait to see the truck progress hopefully soon. Wish I had some garage space and some extra cash to buy a go kart to tinker with. Would love to build an engine as well. Someday...
Adjust valves hot...cold adjustment is fine to warm it up. Once warm, readjust. Unless engine runs and stays cold your adjustment will change causing problems. Metal expands...
Tip: Use old spark plug w/porcelain removed, attach air hose fitting(weld or thread). Piston TDC / both valves closed, pressurize cylinder. there is enough surface area(PSI) on valve to hold it and be able to remove spring. be careful of pressurizing crank case. squirt oil in cylinder will help hold air.
Lol mine does the same thing... I just finished my stage 2 kit and got the carb almost tuned and when I rev it I shoot flames a good 2 ft. I thought about welding another piece to my exhaust and doing a fish tail tip to make it look cool and to add a little extra length to the exhaust.
So how big is the stock jet? And how much bigger did you go? Main jet, pilot jet, needle jet are things you boys could talk about, I liked your history lesson last episode so a little chit chat about jets wouldn't go astray
Drill a hole through the side of the head on the Allen head bolts holding your exhaust header on and run a wire through both bolts and twist the wire together. That will prevent your exhaust bolts from vibrating loose 👍
You did not need to remove head for valve spring install , hose clamp or zip ties would have held that spring compressor on. Looking forward to golf cart build have a great day. Keith
Another good way to make sure no metal gets in the engine when your taping it is to use a shop vacuum on it while your taping to suck up the metal as your doing it
You can just push a heap of rope in the spark plug hole and then push the piston up to squash the rope and it acts like a stopper for the valves and you can get the springs off
The next project is the Golf cart that was sitting outside the shop when they went out to test fire the engine. But my question is this, why remove the charging system and starter when there is a possibility of driving it on the road at night? Gotta have the battery up to keep keep those lights going.
You can take a piece of pipe the same size of the valve spring hat and cut it short and cut the side out and compress the valve spring with a press or whatever you can find and use your magnet to remove the keeps from the cut out in the side of the pipe piece it's a quick home remedy.
first time i helped doing valve springs with my mate we were struggling, my dad came in and smacked them with a bit of pipe and a hammer and did the lot in under 5 mins lol we got showen haha
Ike, on the valve spring tool. Have you ever seen if you could use a spring compression tool for the spring inside the s10 pickup and blazer door. The one that likes to shoot out like a rocket when you do door pin bushings
I keep thinking "you wouldn't need as strong or double valve springs etc if it just had a 4 valve head and it'd flow way better...but then it'd be like a motocross 450cc. I guess tuning a lawnmower engine is like polishing the proverbial". Forgive me but that is how I see it. I also find building the motors to be more fun than driving with them maybe that's just me. This would be great on a stretched minibike. As if IKE needs to be given any more incentive to buy another bike. Love you guys.
I can also tell you all some ways to set your chassis up some ya know like how to get it to roll as freely as possible. Lil tricks you can do to your bearings to help free up some friction.
I would swap the 670 from the rail into the golf cart. It's a big cart that's going to be hauling two adults on the streets. Deff could use that torque.
Been wanting to predator swap a moped, but I dont have a welder or anything other than basic tools really. You guys should do something with a GY6 engine, or just a Chinese scooter in general. Absolutely monster engine 🔥
Is that the hemi motor? Is that one visual reference the smooth top head cover? The HF one on display was like that. The one in box they brought me had a big nut or bolt thru top middle of head cvr. Different air filter too. Both had same 60340 mdl nos. Of course the ppl there had no idea what i was talking about?? What are visual outer differences in hemi???
You guys should really do a paint job on your engine to make it stand out. Throw some paint on the blower housing, fuel tank, and valve cover and that thing would look sweet!

well that'll be fun.... and btw i noticed you guys do mainly 4-stroke stuff.... ever wanted to go into like 70cc's and up 2-stroke? just fyi i hit 60mph with a 70cc built a little
Can't wait to see it in the golf cart ;) you said it in the last episode....
JSMachineWorks it’s in the vid
JSMachineWorks 11:06
Since when did this operation become a high end production? A torque wrench? You guys have changed! 👍
That is probably the first time I have seen them use a torque wrench!
It'll Be fine
Sponsors... Gotta do it right to get paid...
GPS torque wrench available in the discription below
They've used them before 😂😂
I just swapped a stock 212 on my craftsman snowblower and it makes more power then the old 9.5 horse briggs and is much quieter also. Now i see why you guys love these engines

It seems like we've been begging you guys to build a golf cart for years. I'm so glad that it's finally time.

Where im at in michigan as long as you have one of those orange triangles that the tractors use you can run them on the road
You guys make my Mondays and Wednesdays so much brighter :)
Guys, the quality of your vids are getting better and better!
Anyone else notice he was tightening the exhaust stud?
Yes I did
He tightened two nuts together to make a “bolt head”
@Noah Batterson
THEN he screwed the stud in further.
@@noahbatterson8591 And then he preceded to "tighten" the stud instead of loosening it.
Reverse thread

Bigfoot And Bananaman got much clearance beneath the sprocket??
Yes I have the sprocket behind the engine and the chain goes underneath the engine where the sprocket on the axle is

You guys just keep getting better.
How far you've come since the drift trike videos you hooked me on. Love it.
8:55 Yeah, things tend to be hard to take off when you're tightening them.
Yes it was
Isaac it'll be fine I am guessing you just got thrown off because you were on the other side of the engine and accidentally tightened. Hopefully no chinese threads were damaged and no helicoils were purchased 😅
Eh, who hasn’t done that......
nice, cant wait to see what it gets put on, thinkin old cushman scooter
They are puting it on a street legal golf kart

Johnny Is the MAN I just wish I still had the drive John has . The boy loves his ENGINES

Can't wait for the golf cart! Could definitely use a lift, big tires, a transmission and a light bar! Sponsors do your thing!
Take a old spark plug break the glass off remove the internals and weld a air fitting to the back of the plug threads. When you screw the new device in add/connect an air hose to the new fitting, it will keep the valves seated and allow you to do the work!
Cool video guys! ,,,went through 2 ,,,40 series TC on my 420 stage 2 build,,that cam is something else. With great power comes great responsibility!!
Anyone notice the golf cart parked outside. Next project?
thats what the motor is for lol
Yep
time stamp?
They said last video that it was for a golf cart, the town they are in just made legal to use on the streets.
Yeah they did say that. Plus it looked like a piece of junk
I see a lot of big boxes over by the truck 😉 Cant wait to see the truck progress hopefully soon. Wish I had some garage space and some extra cash to buy a go kart to tinker with. Would love to build an engine as well. Someday...
I use zip ties to compress the spring, then I put everything back together and cut them. Works like a charm every time.
I used to have a valve spring compressor tool for small engines, that was very compact, and the head did not have to be removed.
Saw a quick glance at the golf cart when Ike was bring out the motor
A street legal golf cart. Fantastic!
Adjust valves hot...cold adjustment is fine to warm it up. Once warm, readjust. Unless engine runs and stays cold your adjustment will change causing problems. Metal expands...
Top 10 favorite channels! Great videos!!!
That thing sounds soooooo nice! Can't wait to see it power that golf cart!
You guys give me so much inspiration. Also i have a tricked out 420cc drag mini bike
I'm excited for the golf cart. Gonna turn some heads driving down the road with a golf cart that loud.
I've never once torqued to spec head bolts , rod bolts or anything on a Honda GX any size. Never had a problem
I've seen a couple things here lately in the background can't wait. Also motor looking and sounds sweet ( I'm sure way better in person)
Ike. Ace mechanic and motor counter weight lol nice video guys .put that motor on rat rod and hold on. !
Lol mine does the same thing... I just finished my stage 2 kit and got the carb almost tuned and when I rev it I shoot flames a good 2 ft. I thought about welding another piece to my exhaust and doing a fish tail tip to make it look cool and to add a little extra length to the exhaust.

Main jet, pilot jet, needle jet are things you boys could talk about, I liked your history lesson last episode so a little chit chat about jets wouldn't go astray
I wanna see that old truck done! Love them old trucks!
Thank you again. Great uploads, love following you guys.
Hope this grows and grows!!!
Drill a hole through the side of the head on the Allen head bolts holding your exhaust header on and run a wire through both bolts and twist the wire together. That will prevent your exhaust bolts from vibrating loose 👍
Check the yellow cam card I believe i saw lash adjustment is done cold...lol nice video!! Keep em coming boys.
the rocker arm gap is set when cold because when the engine heats up the metal expands and closes the gap up
That sounded mean. Its a Banger for sure!
Cool!! That should be on a motorcycle.
Imma put this engine on a micsrgi seattle ss
Lock washers may not be enough. I'd drill some small holes through each bolt head and use some safty wire.
You did not need to remove head for valve spring install , hose clamp or zip ties would have held that spring compressor on. Looking forward to golf cart build have a great day. Keith
Sound like you guys are going to have the fastest golf cart around 🏎
Love seeing your guys Duralast tools!! I'm a big advocate. "Built to last, Duralast"
Make sure you use a piece of metal to make a use as a brace for that pipe. those f&bs vibrate alot since they are so long.
FWIW, the paperwork for your cam specifies .003" lash intake and exhaust.
Another good way to make sure no metal gets in the engine when your taping it is to use a shop vacuum on it while your taping to suck up the metal as your doing it
Its going to be one heck of a hotrod golf cart :)
Awesome video guys. Can’t wait for the next one.
I had no problem threading a bolt into a predator engine hole without tapping it first. It self taps and doesn't make any mess
You can make good gaskets from cereal box type cardboard and permatex red. My lawnmower horizontal conversion on my kart never leaked.
You guys need to build yourself an engine stand that will fit the Predator engines... would get a lot of use!
Nice video guys, that thing sounds mean! Can’t wait to see what it’s on
You can take a piece of pipe the same size of the valve spring hat and cut it short and cut the side out and compress the valve spring with a press or whatever you can find and use your magnet to remove the keeps from the cut out in the side of the pipe piece it's a quick home remedy.
first time i helped doing valve springs with my mate we were struggling, my dad came in and smacked them with a bit of pipe and a hammer and did the lot in under 5 mins lol we got showen haha
You can buy apart that attaches to an air compressor and it keeps the valves shut I used it on my mates s2000
awsome vid ike and john
I just happen to be restoring a 1966 Chevy C10 p/u! Whatcha doing with the one behind ya? Lol I would love to watch you work on that!
Richard Wilson CarsAndCameras has a few videos on it already!👍
Ike, on the valve spring tool. Have you ever seen if you could use a spring compression tool for the spring inside the s10 pickup and blazer door. The one that likes to shoot out like a rocket when you do door pin bushings

I love the vid I’ve have Ben waiting for this and I want to no were is the dragster man ether way I love this channel
Dang boys gettin in it again.
I think y’all should tried to keep electic start. Idk if they make billet with gear but a golf kart should have electric start
I love this channel keep up the Builds guys
11:06 for the golf kart it’s going on...it’s a beater
but one important question: Is is an ez-go or a Yamaha?
Chevy Guy 55 ez go
So is it going to be a lowered golfkart or a lifted golf ? Hopefully lowered
Better get some fuzzy dice for the golf cart
The valve lash said 0.003 on intake and exhaust on your cam sheet lol a couple thou ain’t gonna hurt
I would swap the 670 from the rail into the golf cart. It's a big cart that's going to be hauling two adults on the streets. Deff could use that torque.
What a beast keep up the good work lads from🇬🇧
You are getting close to 600k subs.
I was just looking on your channel wondering when your next video will be, sweet!
Nice! Are you going to put like a 5 gallon remote tank on the project so you can go on longer trips?
That thing is awesome!
Been wanting to predator swap a moped, but I dont have a welder or anything other than basic tools really. You guys should do something with a GY6 engine, or just a Chinese scooter in general. Absolutely monster engine 🔥
I love this 420cc how many rpm you turning up
John now gets a standard torque setting for all installations.
There is a tool used to compress door hinge springs for automotive use it would be useful
Thank you go power sports
Awesome video!
Do you have any tips for honda clones?
Is that the hemi motor? Is that one visual reference the smooth top head cover? The HF one on display was like that. The one in box they brought me had a big nut or bolt thru top middle of head cvr. We just rebuilt a engine and did the same thing put a zip tie around it
You guys should use the stock flywheel so you can have electric start and charging system on the golf cart

Just picked up a 459cc predator for a Coleman build
well that'll be fun.... and btw i noticed you guys do mainly 4-stroke stuff.... ever wanted to go into like 70cc's and up 2-stroke? just fyi i hit 60mph with a 70cc built a little
After my stage 2 tilly build thats gonna be my next engine build (mainly because of the number in CCs i wanna get a laugh outta my friends)
Did you try clamping or zip ties around the arms on that other tool?
