I saw Queen live 4 times and had the great pleasure of meeting Freddie in person in 1977. He was shy and polite and extremely generous, with his time and also gave me some signed records and a patch that the tour crew had. He was a genius musical performer and also a gentleman who gets a lot of grief from people who didn`t get his lifestyle. The world lost such a lot when he passed and I`m not over it yet!
Wow damn. As a 2005 fan of Queen and Freddie mercury I feel sad I never had the chance to see him on live, it must had been INCREDIBLE, they were so talented
I’ve seen Freddie in concert once. Memorable doesn’t even cut it. What I’ve recently learned is Freddie’s death was caused by Dr Anthony Fauci. Look up HIV patent in the USA & Fauci’s injecting gay men in NYC against ‘Hep B’ but it was really HIV/Aids.
I saw them 3 times.. first one in Jan. 1978.. I was 17... and we got to meet the band briefly in a Holiday Inn lunch room.. Freddie was just as you described.. he signed autographs, and was basically very shy and sweet.. the rest of the band were also funny and Brian May even had the presence of mind to ask us when we asked for an autograph: "ought we to sign TWO?" -- and we were so dazzled, we had never even thought of that... lol.. YES, please?
@@joblessmonday7954 Saw them early 80's. By the last song of the night, NO-ONE was sitting. An idiot media person interviewing them once asked Freddie "And what do you play?" He responded "The audience."
My biggest regret will always be being born too late to see Queen live and in all their glory. Freddie... good God that man can sing, and the charisma he brings on stage. He has such a commanding presence while looking completely effortless, yet you can see he is leaving nothing behind.
Possibly the top contender for the best live performance is Bobby Hatfield singing “Unchained Melody” in 1965 on the Andy Williams show. The video is on UA-cam. Check out his voice control and the incredible high notes he hits at the end.
He had the best performance at the biggest concert ever Live Aid 1985 all bands were there even Led Zeppelin. Mind you AIDS was already affecting him bad then.
"Love of my life." Freddie had such a range, it was amazing. There's so much to choose from but "Love of my life" stands out as, I think, his most emotional work of art.
Fun fact: this song was chosen in 2005 by one of the biggest global tv audiences to be the "greatest driving song of all time". For the record: the pause in the beginning isn't Freddie 'resting his voice', it's him leaving room for the live audience to sing along, which they did, but the old school microphone just didn't pick it up, hence it feels like a pause.
And the song listens like an race engine running, revying up and down and changing gears. Also good to see Freddie playing the piano as it looks the cylinders of an engine up and down.
The highest most impossible note ever reached in rock music is Freddie Mercury singing "Why?" above Bowie. He goes as high as a human can and then bends it higher when he should be completely out of air. It's beyond incredible.
When Freddie approached Brian and Roger when they were in Smile, he didn't change their lives, he changed the world. You bring up difficult songs, and mentioned "Bohemian Rhapsody" ... as so many people do. Brilliant as it is, and it is truly a masterpiece, it isn't even the best song on the album. If you really want to see some brilliant vocals by Freddie, listen to "The Prophet's Song" (from the other side of the record). It's Brian May's masterpiece, and features Freddie singing echoes with himself. Today it would be done with technology, but back then they had to string audio tape across the room passing through playback heads on separate tape decks. The fact they were even able to do this is beyond remarkable, but Freddie's vocal gymnastics are spectacular. They eventually were able to reproduce it on stage, using Echoplexs, to my understanding. Give us all a thrill and give it a review ... I'd like you see your take on it. Always great, just always, Bethany!! You are a ray of sunshine on gloomy days.
Agree with everything except Freddie approaching Brian & Roger when they were in Smile. Smile was Brian, Roger, and Tim Staffell on bass & lead vocals. Freddie was a friend/classmate of Tim's at the Ealing Art College in Lindon. All four shared a flat in London! Brian and Tim were friends from much earlier, meeting in 1964, and formed a band called 1984.Staffell left Smile to join Humpty Bong, and then later Morgan. While with Humpty Bong, Tim moved out, and just Brian, Roger, and Freddie shared the flat. At this same time, Brian was in gradate school at Imperial College of London, and a Math instructor at the school. Freddie and Roger owned a second hand clothing shop in Kensington Square. Ruger was studying to be a dentist. Freddie sang in other bands: Ibex/Wreckage, (1969) which was a Liverpool based band, thus briefly Freddie move to Liverpool. Freddie returned to London joined Oxford based Sour Milk Sea in later that year, but the band broke up in early 1970. As Freddie was again living with Brian and Roger, he tried to persuade them to return to music. Freddie finally convinced them to restart "Smile". The band changed bass players several times before John Deacon joined in 1971. At that time, they renamed this new band Queen - and honed their craft while still in school/working their other jobs. Queen signed on with Trident Studios in 1971, but their debut album wasn't released until 1973. Your right. Watching Queen live gave one a supernatural feeling. I knew I was seeing something I’d cherish forever. All four were talented and Freddie sang with such beauty and pranced with such charisma it was amazing 🤩 Freddie had 4 extra teeth, a massive jaw, 4 octave range, a faster than most singers vibrato, could use his false vocals to sing like Tuvan singers, double jointed fingers, a natural ear, excellent posture and oozed energy. It’s like he was created to be a rock star. All 4 members were so talented and professional!

@fl-g15ramirezscullylou87 Thanks, I was lucky enough to see Queen 4 times with Freddy. The last time on their 1982 Hot Space Tour which would be the last North American Tour with Freddy Mercury.
I greatly admire anyone who can play an instrument and sing simultaneously, especially sing like that with so much energy. Now I understand what “bing” means. You break it down so well. Thanks…
Billy Joel plays the piano and harmonica while singing "Piano Man" (with plenty of energy expended on each, I may add). I got winded just watching him, lol. He may not do all three any more as he's gotten older. 7:21
You mention Freddy's jaw position a few times - he actually had four extra incisors, which it why his front teeth protruded so much and undoubtedly affected the whole way he held his mouth. He was self conscious about it, but didn't want to fix it, in case it affected the way he sang.
He didn'thave four extra incisors as stated in the travesty of a film (I'm surprised that ex-dental student Roger Taylor let that one pass through!) He may, or may not, according to who you believe (Mick Rock or Peter 'Phoebe' Freestone) have had four extra molars (the rear grinding teeth, incisors are the front cutting teeth)
I love watching Queen play live, studio tracks just don’t show how amazing all the members of this band are. Somebody to Love, live in Montreal, in 1981 is a fantastic live video of theirs.
Another fun, enjoyable reaction to a group that I didn’t realize how great they were until my mid 20’s. Again, Bethany shows her vast knowledge and unique way she presents herself and the song, that creates a very enjoyable watch. Thx Bethany! 😉
He was absolutely brilliant. Somebody to Love is one of my all-time favorites of theirs and his vocals in particular, would love to see you do that one.❣❣
In my unprofessional opinion, Freddie Mercury is the greatest singer to have ever to walked this earth and deserves all the respect that comes with that.
@@NicolWUJ Aretha Franklin, even freddie said himself shes better and one of his biggest idols. Ray Charles goes without saying. Michael Jackson. Al Green 100%
This is s a great performance, Freddie is projecting all the emotion the song calls for. Roger is great on the backup vocals as well. I feel that the video quality is very good for the time and technology available. The lighting is responsible for the softer red tones. This is my go to song when I am in a funk and in need of an attitude adjustment, it really always elevates my mood every time. Thank you for your energetic and wonderful reaction. Freddie has an overbite but more he has overjet, his teeth are fanned out from the root due to a lack of space for all his extra teeth.
I've always loved this song since I was a kid, because it's so upbeat and happy; but it wasn't until I tried singing it for fun one day (at home, alone) that I realized just how difficult it really is 😂 Freddie just makes it look so easy and effortless ❤ Unfortunately he passed away when I was 3 so I never got to see him live or anything like that; but he's certainly an inspiration. 🙏🤘
Grand merci, madame, pour votre si bel et contagieux enthousiasme !! Merci également pour la clarté de vos propos... Freddie Mercury n'en mérite pas moins.
One thing I noticed, especially without a shirt on, I couldn't see him taking a breath and he's really pushing the words out and zipping up and down the scale, so amazing!
Once you 'Get' Queen...They become part of your soul and mental wallpaper. Although now in this 21st century there is so much mystique surrounding Queen, and particularly Freddie's legendary status...We who were privileged to see Queen perform live, knew instinctively that we were witnessing inimitable greatness. I was so very fortunate to attend several of their concerts in different parts of the world in the mid 80's...This band were the perfect storm, and Freddie was the God with pockets full of fairy dust, who ensured each and every ticket holder experienced the absolute time of their lives. Dear Freddie showed us inside his heart...and we will love him forever for it.❤
Utterly FANTASTIC, Bethany… THANK YOU! I LOVE watching “1970s Freddie” perform, because he spent so much more time at the piano. BTW… In this video, near the beginning of the song when Fred stopped singing for several seconds while still playing piano… He had stopped singing because THE AUDIENCE WAS SINGING FOR HIM… The audio mix here is just poor/doesn’t pick up the sound of the audience. FYI… There IS a fantastic quality, REMASTERED version of the video, where the uploader managed to “tweak” the audio levels so that we CAN hear the audience! (And the image quality is fantastic too, obv.)😻
I saw them on this tour in New Haven CT and in 1978 and in 1981or 82. Had the privilege seeing Queen and Freddie Mercury in their best years. I graduated High school in 1979. So I got the privilege to see them back when I was 17 or 18. Absolutely amazing shows!! I want to go back! LOL.
I was actually at this concert. They were recording for their "Live Killers" album which probably explains why the recording quality is not awful (even after all these years).
@@stephenfrasure9351 You are correct. I did not notice that this was from the Hammersmith Odeon concert. It is so similar to the way Freddie performed the song in Paris earlier that year that I thought it was from that concert. Too many years have passed which makes it easier to not clearly remember everything. The Paris dates were at the end of February and the 1st of March 1979. I was at the February 27th concert that was one of the dates that was being recorded for "Live Killers". The video looked a little bit darker than I remembered but I figured that was because of the age of the video. Freddie sang the song the same as far as I remember which is not always the case from Queen tour to Queen tour.
I miss you Mr Freddy You left behind great music so we could enjoy it today May the heavens bless you You are singing to the all above May the heavens bless you
Such agreat song and freddie's vocals are insane such agreat voice so unique such a showman my God! Unreal really his abilities have no limit blowing away thanks
Hands down my favorite Queen song. I am unashamed to put that song in repeat on my way home from work on Friday while alone. I pretend I can sing half as good as Freddie. Great analysis!
Pick any song by Queen and you'll not be disappointed. Try the Wembley concert live clip. It's about 30 minutes and covers 5 or 6 songs. Freddie has 300,000 audience in the palm of his hand. Magic. Another remarkable voice is that of John Fogerty who was the singer for Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their first self-titled album was released August 1968, featuring one of the best vocals is, "I Put A Spell On You". I'm a huge fan of both Queen and CCR. Thanks Bethany ✌
Awesome song choice. One of my fav Queen songs. What a legend, you and Freddie. He's such a powerhouse and it is such a busy song although he breezes through it like its no big deal. I was going to ask if the new backdrops have a door and light switch option and it seems that they do. Its great, looks just like the grey room.😍 Great reaction as always and feel free to find some more Queen whenever you feel like it.
Queen is still one of my top 3 fav bands (to include Pink Floyd and Rush)! The Wembley Stadium show from 1986 is amazing (sadly, only experience ! However, I do maintain that the quintessential Queen live performance is their set from Live Aid in '85! They absolutely STOLE THE SHOW!!!!
A voice on a diet of late nights, cigarettes and too much partying! A very apt choice of song (which the rest of the band allegedly didn’t like) as it was about his busy social life. The greatest, taken far too soon but burned so brightly. He said his voice benefited from having 4 extra teeth which pushed his front teeth forward. Allegedly he was afraid having it fixed would change his magnificent voice.
I was just wonder why "Don't stop me now" is the song that hardly you can find in live performance... Becasue it was really hard to sing live even for HIM, who is for Me the most talented singer in the WORLD
Thanks for doing this one. Queen were my first musical love, and still a staple of my playlists. Singing along to Queen songs is an excellent way to stretch your vocal talents too. I'd say the live aid concert is a good recommendation because often his most spectacular vocals are part of the crowd work he does between songs. Either that, or Barcelona, with Montserrat Caballe.
The reason freddie stopped singing after the line And the world Is becouse the crowd Were singing the song to Him Watch him gesture with his left hand Hes saying ok you sing it Audience participation Was part of a queen concert
I grew up listening to Freddie, he was and I believe incomparable in his live performances ,in other words there's nothing else like him out there, just my opinion, they said he wouldn't get his teeth fixed because he was afraid it would affect his singing techniques, he was a special person
i'd love to see you react to 'Freddie Mercury - Time Waits For No One (Official Video)' which was a previously unreleased song that got released in 2019, for some reason i couldn't find the original video on youtube but if you google search 'Freddie Mercury - Time Waits For No One (Official Video)' you can see it on dailymotion or somewhere like that 😁
The greatest vocalist in the history of mankind. And it’s not even about his vocal capabilities (which all the group’s albums will tell you about). He never cheated. I didn’t lie in my songs and stories.
I love him. For me, despite the critics and fans saying Live Aid was their best, i always will go back to WEMBLEY!!!! It was just memorable and his performance ground braking, that opening with One Vision was epic!!!. Those thousands of people must have had the time of their lives! They won't forget it for the rest of their existence!!
In the space of a week I have watched 20 of your clips hundreds of times! I am a mega fan. The way you use language to describe voices, instruments & transitions is examplary! You listen to a wide variety of music which is great to capture new viewers. However I feel you are missing out on one of the greatest vocal performances of all time by not reacting to Queen's full set at Live Aid. It is widely considered to be the greatest live performance of all time and Freddie Mercury's voice from the first word "Mama" to his last syllable is flawless. Only Freddie can make the word 'go' last for 4 seconds and sound amazing! I know I'm new and I'm sure you have many requests. Take this one very seriously! Love you !
Freddie is one of my biggest heroes. Would also love to see you do a show on Steve Walsh from Kansas. He’s another of my top influences. His live performances in the mid to late 70s were epic. Maybe a song like The Wall or Closet Chronicles?
I do love Queen, in my top 10. Freddie had the BEST voice in rock n roll.......................period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roger Taylor, John Decan...and not to mention one of the nicest humans in rock n roll, Brian May. So good.
You can't miss The Prophet Song, you can find canons, rhythm changes, many special sounds, one of their most original songs. You could really hear these peculiarities in it! and also The March of the Black Queen, like a multi-movement symphony Válasz
Love your channel and subscribed Don’t know if it was bc I love Queen and in particular Freddie … or bc you are a terrific reactor 😂 Either way I’m happy to have found you✌🏼 Plz more Queen 👑 You won’t run out of their massive discography for years and you will be loved by thousands …… I promise 🌹🥰
I think this is their best live concert. There is a video of the entire concert on on here where someone has merged all the best video quality available and the best audio quality available into one video, so i would find it and watch this song on that particular one. Yes he had an overbite, but he refused to get it corrected because he didn't want to risk ruining his vocal sound. I have the opposite problem. My lower jaw has always extended way too far forward. I can't even retract it in far enough to bring the upper+lower incisors together. I mean i can make them touch, but only as an underbite.
Great analysis! The hard rock Queen songs are the most difficult to sing, that is why you rarely see covers of those songs, this is songs such as Princes Of The Universe. The heavier voiced, more dramatic tenors do actually tend to have faster vibratos naturally, in opera at least. You mentioned some good examples, especially the balanced sound, and the jaw that is needed for open throat singing.
It takes time to appreciate greatness sometimes. I appreciate bands like Queen now where I didn't back in the day. He might still be alive if we understood and appreciated his greatness and communicated it to him more. You break down jaw placement and technical stuff I've not heard. You're pretty cool. There is a Philippine Girl Group called 4th Impact who do a cover video of Bohemian Rhapsody that respects Queen's arrangement and video. They've been reacted to by about 20 Online Vocal coaches who all have been wowed.
The isolated vocals from the studio version are a great way to show how gifted he was. The control of his voice on such an aggressive and energetic song is outstanding. The way he controls his breathing and articulates... Wow. I'd probably have liked you to choose a better live performance, as like you said, the video isn't the best... but I understand WHY you chose such a challenging song. The fact he sang this near the middle of the set, after songs like Somebody To Love, is amazing. That being said... when his voice was tired or the throat was sore... he has murdered it 🫣 lol

Again, Bethany shows her vast knowledge and unique way she presents herself and the song, that creates a very enjoyable watch. Thx Bethany! 😉
He’s the only artist that scientists evaluated their voice. They agree he was a master the way he controlled his voice
He was absolutely brilliant. Somebody to Love is one of my all-time favorites of theirs and his vocals in particular, would love to see you do that one.❣❣
I could listen to Bethenys voice all day. Very calming almost like music itself
I would like to hear her sing.
In my unprofessional opinion, Freddie Mercury is the greatest singer to have ever to walked this earth and deserves all the respect that comes with that.
Probably not
Absolutely
@@JacobSummerhill wym. Name someone who is actually better
@@NicolWUJ Aretha Franklin, even freddie said himself shes better and one of his biggest idols. Ray Charles goes without saying. Michael Jackson. Al Green 100%
The guy could sing opera or he could sing hard rock, and he was a top notch entertainer. There will never be another like him.
I've always loved this song since I was a kid, because it's so upbeat and happy; but it wasn't until I tried singing it for fun one day (at home, alone) that I realized just how difficult it really is 😂 Freddie just makes it look so easy and effortless ❤
Unfortunately he passed away when I was 3 so I never got to see him live or anything like that; but he's certainly an inspiration. 🙏🤘
Wonderful commentary! Thank you for putting into words my feelings, too... and explaining, so well, the 'how'! Only one Freddie❣️
Freddie was simply awesome. Even our Indian Bollywood movie playback singers don't come close to him and we have some really good singers.
Grand merci, madame, pour votre si bel et contagieux enthousiasme !!
Merci également pour la clarté de vos propos... Freddie Mercury n'en mérite pas moins.
You should do a backing vocal series. Roger Taylor knocked it out of the park singing back-up while playing the drums.
Больше всего доставляет удовольствие от просмотра видео- наблюдать за искренней мимикой лица этой красивой женщины)))
Успехов!
One thing I noticed, especially without a shirt on, I couldn't see him taking a breath and he's really pushing the words out and zipping up and down the scale, so amazing!
And while you're at it watch "Barcelona" by Freddie Mercury and Montcerat Caballe - opera meets Freddie's voice - amazing
What a treat as always. Thank you.
I am sure like me, you may be missing him, his talent and stage presence. Very unique talent.
Saw them 3 times live, first time at 15yrs old in 1979 in Liverpool, they had the gong then for the end of bohemian rhapsody, brilliant live band
This was after live killers was already released. This was their crazy tour at the end of 1979
@@stephenfrasure9351 You are correct.
I miss you Mr Freddy
You left behind great music so we could enjoy it today
May the heavens bless you
You are singing to the all above
May the heavens bless you
Beautiful song, Gorgeous Vocalyst
Their first self-titled album was released August 1968, featuring one of the best vocals is,
"I Put A Spell On You".
You have such a wonderful soft voice, it's a pleasure to listen to you!
The humanity was created as audience for Freddy! So thank you Freddy for my existence! 🙏
The way this song ends just gets to you.
The word "legendary" gets thrown around an awful lot.. but in this case it is the ultimate definition . LONG LIVE FREDDIE !
Got to see them do this live during The Hot Space tour in July of '82 at Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Couldn't agree more with what you say about Freddie singing while playing the piano!!!!!
Absolutely amazing. Queen and freddie mercury are awesome. Especially the live aids concert
He amazingly taught himself to control his voice,
It’s late is probably the most difficult Queen vocally speaking. And probably Don’t Try so hard is an amazing Queen for you to analize.
You have to watch Queen at Montreal great video quality and great vovally
I was just wonder why "Don't stop me now" is the song that hardly you can find in live performance... Becasue it was really hard to sing live even for HIM, who is for Me the most talented singer in the WORLD
Thanks for doing this one. Queen were my first musical love, and still a staple of my playlists. Singing along to Queen songs is an excellent way to stretch your vocal talents too.
I'd say the live aid concert is a good recommendation because often his most spectacular vocals are part of the crowd work he does between songs. Either that, or Barcelona, with Montserrat Caballe.
The reason freddie stopped singing after the line
And the world
Is becouse the crowd
Were singing the song to
Him
Watch him gesture with his left hand
Hes saying ok you sing it
Audience participation
Was part of a queen concert
So a master electronics person, a dentist, an astrophysicist, and a musical genius/singer/artist walk into an arena......
I grew up listening to Freddie, he was and I believe incomparable in his live performances ,in other words there's nothing else like him out there, just my opinion, they said he wouldn't get his teeth fixed because he was afraid it would affect his singing techniques, he was a special person
Thank you so much for sharing your love of Freddy's music, you made me love it as well, such a nice trip
Who is glad we grew up listening to wonderful music
We were so lucky
One of the best reactors on the tube...❤❤❤
i'd love to see you react to 'Freddie Mercury - Time Waits For No One (Official Video)' which was a previously unreleased song that got released in 2019, for some reason i couldn't find the original video on youtube but if you google search 'Freddie Mercury - Time Waits For No One (Official Video)' you can see it on dailymotion or somewhere like that 😁
Probably the hardest song performing live
I am fortunate to have seen Queen 2 times when Freddie was still alive (I have seen them with Adam Lambert as well), they were amazing live!
Queen performed in liveaid 1985 at Wembley stadium.
L.A. - Yeah he wasn't at his vocal best in that, he had been recovering from illness. "Who Wants to Live Forever" live at Wembley is great.
Young lady I always enjoy your videos and the glee in your eyes
Have you done Love Of My Life yet? Or anything from Queen At Wembley?
Love you !
Love it. I was named after him, have a special bond ❤
I LOVED how you love Freddie
Amazing, truly amazing. Would love another Elvis Reaction to more of his vocals, as always very good video 🙏🏻
The great freddie, i like every old music.
Freddie is one of my biggest heroes. Would also love to see you do a show on Steve Walsh from Kansas. He’s another of my top influences. His live performances in the mid to late 70s were epic. Maybe a song like The Wall or Closet Chronicles?
Also Somebody to Love - same concert.
What a great analysis! Thank you.
Have you watched their Live Aid performance, the way he took the crowd in the palm of his hand. And he did it with a throat infection.
One of the best vocalists, ever.
Have you caught bohemian rhapsody live? His vocals were amazing on that one too.
You could really hear these peculiarities in it!
and also The March of the Black Queen, like a multi-movement symphony
Válasz
Queen rocks Montreal 1981 has great sound and visuals quality
Love your channel and subscribed Don’t know if it was bc I love Queen and in particular Freddie … or bc you are a terrific reactor 😂 Either way I’m happy to have found you✌🏼 Plz more Queen 👑 You won’t run out of their massive discography for years and you will be loved by thousands …… I promise 🌹🥰
I’d love to see you do Orville Peck - Let me drown. He is a phenomenal singer with an incredible voice.
About "the period".. they used film to record it.. analogue.. so you can convert it to any number of bits and bitrate you want
He died of AIDS. It would have taken medication which did not exist at the time to keep him from dying.
We love you Freddie...
