Personally I think that bikes like the tracer or the Turismo Veloce are different kind of bikes to the GSXS 1000GT and the Ninja 1000SX, the former are more like sport-trails to me
Wouldn't completely agree with you after having both "classes". Tracer is higher than Ninja for example and with it you get more legroom(knee more open, comfortable), more upright position, more upper body wind protection, more counter-steering initial input(directly drops the bike) and, with that height it also does some off road. The Ninja puts the knees more bent because of it's more "compact", lower position. It also has probably slightly better lower body wind protection because of side panels. It's initial counter steer is less prominent due to tighter handlebar but than it makes your "body lean" sportier. Both are amazing bikes and one should definitely test them to decide. Both are great sport tourers where Tracer seems to be a bit of everything with accent on comfort and Ninja a bit of everything with accent on sport. All the best. 🖐️
In America the out the door price of the Ducati multistrada V4 is almost twice the cost of the Yamaha tracer 9 gt. This is why I bought the Yamaha tracer 9 gt.
Hands down a totally smart investment. If I were to downsize from my Super Tenere, it would very likely be the Tracer 9 GT. And yes,, I'm a Yamaha fan boy 😉. How is the machine serving you so far??
Also to mention the cost of ownership, i.e. maintenance is twice the cost. Also, the reliability of the Tracer 9 GT is a big factor. No fun "touring" when your stuck in the middle of nowhere. I don't know this...but what octane is recommended in each bike?
The V4 has got more to it than power. If you don't feel like unleashing all 170 ponies, you can just sit back and enjoy the quiet smoothness of the engine. 😊 Something the V2 can not offer, at least not in the same matter.
I have ridden2 multistrada 1200 twins over 60,000 miles and I find them very good back roads and touring bikes !! Got our 2015 with extras and 21,000 miles for 10 grand!! Can't stop putting gas in it!! 😀😀😀😀😀🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🍺🍺🍺🍺
Best value and look (yes! the look!) is by far the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT. I have never had such a great bike with a killing engine. You should mention the price of these bikes.
The Z1000SX has been around for 11 years not 8, also the real order based on overall performance handling and comfort is V4 Multi then Ktm 1290 gt and S1000xr fighting for second and third.
I went for the ninja 1000sx amazing value and super fun. Probably not best for the task when it comes to when wind protection for the screen. Potentially the higher pegs, though I don’t have an issue. To me I love the look of a sports bike and the comfort of a naked bike. That is what this bike is.
if they had CC and decent true hard sided luggage and a less fugly rack when bags are off, I'd have one in my garage. Haven't ridden one, but sat on them a few times. Gorgeous bikes.
Damn. Where I live, that Multistrada V4 costs more than twice the price of the Honda NT 1100 and the Suzuki GSX S1000 GT. Definitely not an option for me.
The non-factory version of the Aprilia Tuono 1100 would get my vote for a sports tourer if the sports part of the package is more important than the touring part.
I bought the base model Tuono on the 5th December & did 3,000 Kilometres b4 Xmas riding the Victoria high country in a very SPORTY manner see vids on my channel
Well done and interesting. However, if you’re in the market to buy, isn’t the most important information availability? Not that it’s a reviewer’s fault, but how useful is the data if the bikes aren’t available?
Yeah, I've had a hard time buying anything, including bikes, that I want. Lucked in to a slightly used FE501S, but several other bikes I've looked at are either completely unavailable, or so stupidly marked up that I laugh. $16,000 for a used Tenere 700?!?! WTF! Got used to the age of abundance in my imagination. Now that I have money to spend, I can't actually get the things I want...
A beautiful MV for sure but comfortable for a touring not so sure about that. The BMW R1250RS is a very nice bike but it's styling is a bit of let down to me. Nobody is seriously taking this bikes further off road than a hard packed dirt or gravel road. I voted for and bought the Triumph 900 GT Pro and after a year and half I would buy it again...on road single and two touring it's great.
The BMW R1250RS is not designed for off road. Sure, you could ride down a decent dirt fire road, no problem, like any other street bike. Maybe it's the BMW GS you're talking about?
How does the GT Pro handle a packed dirt or gravel road? I do love the green colour of the Rally Pro, but it has a higher seat height for my vertically challenged legs!
@@surferdude642 Thanks Ted. Will organise a test ride. Tried a Tiger 900 GT Pro, but just wasn’t interesting/exciting enough. Seat height is 830mm and can be less with a lower seat. I’ve got a Tenere 700, but decided it’s too heavy/high CoG for my skill level for serious off road, so will stick to renting a CRF 300 for my off road skill building and then focus on road (and it’s some easy dirt/gravel) with my regular bike.
I've sat on allot of the bikes on this list and actually ridden a few, it makes me wonder why the Versys 1000 never makes these lists. Actually comfortable for long rides and better than most of these bikes for two up touring. Love the Versys 1000.
I am looking for a sports tourer and very few reviews mention the height/weight of the rider. At 5'9" I find the Mulistrada bars too far forward and too wide. The same goes for the V85TT not reviewed here. MV Agusta TV fits very well for my height.
What if you change the focus to the best One Up Sport touring/GT 800cc+ motorcycle? I'm thinking T9GT actually takes that top spot ...IMHO (Biased as I own one ) Also for 2023 the T9GT will likely take #1 for the best 800cc+ commuter also as it is getting the radar enhancement and a nicer one screen display....but I expect with inflation and the added feature the price will climb ever higher so if anyone does not commute then will be best to shop deals on left over '21 and '22 T9GTs I managed to buy my new '22 for MSRP alone without any added markup or bogus fees like set up and destination etc
What is difference between GT and Sport touring motorcycles? I thought they were synonymous. great list, though I for one think the adv style looks ridiculous. Sticking a high dirt bike style front fender above the typical tire-hugging street fender makes zero sense to me. I'll keep my 1000SX, thanks, though I'd love to own an H2SX!
I love how everyone has an opinion on why this or that bike should be #1 or another shouldn’t be on the list and the bike they had is the best bike they have ever rode! Unless you have all these bikes and ride them all for a substantial amount of time to make a fair and impartial decision on their rankings, let the pros do that part! They take everything into consideration, such as handling, braking, performance, mpg, comfort and everything else involved in riding in every situation! A bike you thought was the best, you might completely change your mind riding something that you might of despised! I listen to the pros and go in with an opened mind, not already having a bias opinion like to many people seem to!
I looked for the Yamaha FJR300, then I remembered, because the FJR did not meet the Euro5 pollution requirements, Yamaha decided to forgo the European market.
It must be really comfort to ride that nt1100 though, but 110 hp feels not enough nowadays, super duke gt might be an animal although it's not known for best reliability. Multistrada is way to expensive, the z1000sx is to sporty for me, but its quality is top notch, the gsx-s1000gt isn't. Tracer would probably win if it had the cp4 engine, so my votes goes for superduke gt anyway
The Tracer 9 GT may very well be a great bike ... but I couldn't live with the aesthetics, the styling does nowt for me and the split dash is horrible ... even then it's still really tempting though as it offers a lot for the money compared to the others. The Tiger 900 GT Pro would probably be what I'd buy from that list .... but I'd definitely have the Yamaha if it had nicer styling and a more conventional single large TFT
Ugly as sin, I agree. I know you can't see it while riding, but I'd have to distract myself looking at my watch or something every time I'd walk up to it, lol.
You forgot to mention that the Ducati probably uses 50% more fuel than any of the other bikes on the list. I watched a comparison with the 1290 S and the Duc literally used 50% more fuel doing the same speeds. I guess if you can afford a £20k bike fuel economy might not be your biggest concern, but it’s still ridiculous.
As a completely happy owner of the BMW R1200RS, I was glad the newer R1250RS wasn't overlooked on this review, as it is all-too-often in most Sports Tourer reviews...
In my opinion there is a big difference/mistake on the concept of a sport-touring bike...for me a sport-touring bike is a bike that looks sporty and you can go on knee-down trips for a few days and with that in mind a turismo veloce, the NT1100, the Tiger, Tracer and multistrada aren't sport-touring bikes, they are GT bikes with more or less sportiness!
