I see a lot of yall are hatin on him for this being time consuming and what not, making a lot of noise.... My current setup is 4 Hawk Helium sticks and a LW Alpha 2 lock on. It takes at least 10-15 minutes to get setup once I get to the tree and have to climb with a linemans belt(safety strap around the tree) whoch makes metal on metal noise and adds weight. Then I have to climb back down, clip my pack and gun or bow to my pull rope, climb back up, clip in, and pull up my gear. Its not super comfortable either. I don't see a huge comfort from a saddle and tiny foot stand, so maybe thats a wash for me. Then the reverse to pack everything up and walk out. A climber stand is ideal if the trees you have are climbable with one and they are definitely the most comfortable, but heavier. Its all a tradeoff. I would pick comfort over weight if the trees are equal in regards to sticks or climbers. He has this down and if it works for him its super light and props to him for that. I've seen a lot of one stick with repel videos and this is one of the best. I appreciate that you go through the whole process and give some detail. Thank you.
I’ve hunted this way many times. As well as with a climber, ladder stands etc… this method allows for a lighter carrying load walking in and also allows a hunter more options than a climber stand. There are many times where you want to hunt you can’t because you have a climber stand and there isn’t a good tree to use . This system is just another means to an end you can put in your arsenal for hunting. You can literally get into any tree that would support you safely no matter how many limbs and where they’re located. It’s very versatile . However, It’s definitely not for everyone. Good job on this video.🤙🏼

Just for reference to those curious or saying its only for very young slim people, I was 6ft 300lbs last climbing season and used this method wihout any issues at all. It looks much more challenging then it is, but when you are hanging and reaching down for your stick you barely use any effort. You are literally hust hanging, then rotate your hips a little and you can reach your stick. If you are fit enough to climb a normal ladder then you can do this method. I have lost 50+lbs since last hunting seaosn so this season will be even easier
I've been watching this video several times and yours along with Staggs in the wild are the most informative when it comes to One sticking. I just got into saddle hunting just before Covid hit and love it. I currently use Hawk mini sticks and I'm just tired of climbing down removing a stick and doing the same process over and over. That being said I'm finally going to make the switch to one sticking its a no brainer at this point and more efficient and much quicker. Thanks for making my decision to switch that much easier.
It’s a lot easier than it looks. I promise. I am 41 and I have seen in person a 68 year old man do this also. Just don’t put the first step so high and you’re fine. If you can climb a step ladder you can do this. The only actual work being done is stepping up the steps and then lifting the weight of one stick to over your head and while you’re doing that you are literally sitting in a swing. If you know anyone that has this around your area most guys or gals would let you try theirs out. If you get on a saddle hunters form you might be able to find someone. If you’re in the southern Indiana area you’re more then welcome to try my system out. You can try saddle with sticks and you can also try saddle one sticking like this video shows
Nice review. I just got mine in today. I can't wait to try it out. One tip on forgetting your release- always attach it to your bow. I got in the habit of doing that a few years ago and it's never been an issue since.
Man that looks like it would take some time to learn but very cool. Especially being able to repel down. That’s a game changer. Way quicker getting down than any other system.
Ive used 3 or 4 climbing sticks and a saddle for 3 years now, I’ve got down a pretty efficient system.... looks like its much harder and more steps involved just getting up the tree but one easy way down. Close to even trade off if you ask me.
I've debated the same thing. The advantages that make me choose the one stick method is I don't need to fiddle and hang a separate platform and I can go as high as I need.
Try offsetting your body when hanging to reach down and grab stick. Then don't put stick under rope. Will allow you to get a little more height with each move not putting stick under rope. And it will drastically reduce your amount of movement. Im going into my 4th season one sticking and I've learned a lot. Haha to anyone that thinks he's making a ton of noise. It's cuz he's got a mic on his chest reason you can hear it so loud.
Thanks for the tip man I’ll give that a try! And yes that mic picks up every little sound. I was trying to be fast for the sake of the video so I was making more noise than usual. Thanks for commenting!
Wow... that’s a TON of work and noise for absolutely no reason. There are saddle hunters, and then there is this guy! I’ll stick to my hybrid platform to be up quietly and safely within 10 minutes!

Watched a bunch of different videos now on climbing methods for saddle hunters. One sticking just seems like a giant pain in the ass. For me....I'm gonna run SRT method with preset loops. For the cost of them one sticks I can have a rope, a hand ascender with foot loop, and an ascender/descender. Can climb srt into the tree then repel back down. I intend to still carry my hawk helium with aiders trees I decide to hint that I have not set a preset loop or that's just to busy to get my throw ball into.
I just don’t get it. How is this better than a climber or 4 mini sticks and a lock on? Seems like way more work, way more gear, way more noise, way more movement. It is a really cool way to climb a tree, but I can’t imagine doing all that in cold weather gear. Not to mention having a platform the size of one boot. To each their own and sure you can make this work but I’m out. Also…seems like 90% of the trees saddle hunters climb you could throw a summit climber on and be up the tree quick and quiet. I dunno.
@@primal_inc what are you gonna do when you lose the bottom of your climber? That’s way more likely to happen than falling with a harness and lineman belt.
I just cannot imagine this being quiet, seems like a cool idea but just can't see it being practical. Can be up the tree and setup in less than 5 mins without making much noise and doesn't wear me out. Not hating just don't think this would be for me. If I had to hunt public I would just go with 4 sticks and a lone wolf, seems safer and more quiet and less of a chore.
It definitely wouldn't be fun or fast but you could use your linesman belt and ascender/fritch hitch as a foot aider on your main line to SRT climb back up
All these saddle climbing videos have the same problem - they always show a straight limbless tree that looks like a telephone pole. Love the video, and please do not climb or rappel with the climbing stick / platform / arrows / similar hanging from your climbing belt; because a slip, getting lodged against a branch, or hard landing could cause severe injury. Maybe use the backpack or better yet, the lifting rope. Thx
Excellent review. I’d like to see a video on the exact way you route everything on your pull down rope. I’ve heard it explained how you could do it several different ways but I need to see it visually.
We can make that happen! Are you wanting to see how we attach the Doyle’s gear hoist to pull the rope down or are you wanting to see how we tie on the delta quick link and the am-steel loop that goes around the bow stabilizer to the rappel rope?
I'm super curious how you got the rappel line down myself, I was sitting there thinking u just left it behind untill u somehow pulled it outta the tree lol
@@seanmason1494 I attach my Doyle’s gear hoist to my delta quick link and lower my bow down with the rappel rope. Once I rappel down and I’m at the base of the tree I pull on the Doyle’s to bring my rappel rope down. If this doesn’t make sense follow us on Instagram and I’ll send you a video on it. I’ll probably make a video on it too and put it on UA-cam bc a few people have messaged us the same questions.
I'll stick to my summit climber. Yeah it's a little bulky and heavier but having to wear all that crap and ropes everywhere not to mention swinging around a tree like a monkey seems like a good way to spook every deer withing a mile off with all the movement and scraping against tue tree. To each their own but not for me.
Wait a climber....scrapes the shit outta trees lol. This particular method isn't for me but saddle hunting is great once you get comfortable trusting a rope lol.
I hate sitting for long hours and tend to move too much when doing it. I love saddle hunting since you’re stance is upright and comfortable. I can and have been in a saddle for hours….
Dude, buy a pair of tree gaffs and scale that tree in about 20 seconds. This is a ridiculous amount of extra work than what it needs to be. This is like trying to climb the outside of a building when you could walk inside and take the elevator.
This video was awesome. Thanks a lot. Do you think the 15" is the best for you or you think the 18" would have been better? I wonder if you can benefit from the extra 3" each time you raise the stick, or maybe it doesn't matter. Any thoughts?
I don’t think it really matters, I went with the 15 bc it’s short enough that it doesn’t get hung up in the brush too bad and it still bites into the tree well. The longer the stick the less likely it will kick out when putting side pressure on the platform. Thanks for watching!
For people not wanting to spend the money on a mad rock to rappel buy a figure 8 belay or an atc guide, fraction of the cost and nothing mechanically can fail
Nice job on the video. I see this not working very well if you were using this system when it's cold (Below 32 and you need fingers exposed). Early season... sure this would work. Keep up the good work.
There's a easier way with less bulk. Use TWO lanyards and a foot ascended. Put the lanyard up high (like you did in the video) climb up with your foot ascended, set your next lanyard and repeat. Cost is comparable and if your second lanyard doubles as a climbing line, repel down with it.
Dam came to shoot deer but think they all left by now lmao...but looks cool but I'm good I'll just use ladder sticks or ladder stands thanks for showing what not to buy good luck bro
As someone who is new to wanting to learn how to do this can you list all the essential equipment you use to complete this climb? From your belts to your carabiners, ropes, etc?? Thanks
I know it's been 3 years since you did all this but, I'm curious what your thoughts on it now after all this time??? Reason I ask is because I'm considering buying this entire setup for this coming season???
I can go around limbs with my lone wolf sit climb. So much faster! I also use a cheap saddle “sit/drag “ with 12 trex composite 2x4 wedges with webbing wrapped back on itself for steps. At least you get down quickly!
Yeah i use the lone wolf assault with the stick carrier and although its 30 pounds with the sticks, its super compact and my backpack can strap right on it. Ive walked a few miles through Ohio hills dozens of times and never had any issues. This thing seems overly dangerous and difficult to save 15 pounds... less than 15 if you just carry sticks and a saddle.
Yeah a climber is ideal on trees without limbs but most of the trees we hunt have limbs not to mention climbers are heavy and bulky. They are very quick to set up and climb though on certain trees!
My tree stand is probably closer to 20 years old and it's still great I would have been up there 30 minutes ago! with my 2 piece stand it just looks like its way to much I mean it takes me about 5 minutes to get up the tree boy them does would be blowing like hell if you carry that in the woods
I am thinking about getting into saddle hunting but I’m thinking the figure 8 descending system is the way to go, on top of being super simple and controllable, they are stupid cheap compared to the mad rock safe guards
I guess the only serious thing I think that would be problematic will be trying to get down if I drop something haha. Now I'm reclimbing and sweat twice as much.
I got the 3 step aider and think I'll cut that bottom aider off , I can only use it at my first stick placement. I have 20" steps also. I've actually got the same setup even the cruzr saddle🤘
It’s a heck of a system! If you decide to cut the bottom aider off you could probably use a lighter and run it along where you made the cut and it shouldn’t fray.
@@theunsuccessfulhunters4198 each aiders sewn on the sides so I believe a lighter would do just fine , I'm gonna hunt with it a few times before I deside weather it should go or stay

After watching your video I bought your exact same setup. How do you wrap the cordage on the platform? Do you just wrap around the platform like serving a bowstring? How do you terminate the ends? I’m originally from NC also.

That actually looks pretty sweet lol makes me wanna try a saddle
Love the video, and please do not climb or rappel with the climbing stick / platform / arrows / similar hanging from your climbing belt; because a slip, getting lodged against a branch, or hard landing could cause severe injury. Maybe use the backpack or better yet, the lifting rope. Thx
Definitely looks doable, but even trying to quiet, that rope coming back down is sending the deer away for good lol.
Yep it’s pretty much a one and done.
@@theunsuccessfulhunters4198 yep
Not to mention, contending with the ropes in the dark.... Summit any day.
@@stevearttus8164 absolutely!! I dont get the whole saddle craze. But like I said to each their own!
Yeah you really can’t go wrong with a climber if you hunt a area that has trees with no limbs!
Great video fellas! 👍🏼
Tie your release to your bow and you'll never forget it.
Thanks for the tip!
The life guard is perfectly safe you just have to have a back up just in case you stand up and introduce slack in the line.
Dude, buy a pair of tree gaffs and scale that tree in about 20 seconds. This is a ridiculous amount of extra work than what it needs to be. This is like trying to climb the outside of a building when you could walk inside and take the elevator.
Agree except a lot of states on public land you can’t use gaffs because of puncturing the tree unfortunately!
This is awesome but Hopefully I can find a used one. Great video.
Thank you!!!!
Ahhh I’ll have to try that out!
Dam came to shoot deer but think they all left by now lmao...but looks cool but I'm good I'll just use ladder sticks or ladder stands thanks for showing what not to buy good luck bro
Gotta be honest… the only reason I clicked on, was cause of the hilarious channel name!!
Hahaha we appreciate it!
It's called a locking carabiner.
To funny how a new proprietary name is given to climbing gear.
This looks like the most fun way to hunt
Repelling down is pretty dang fun😂
great video y'all.
Thanks!
Madrock lifeguard (the red one) does the same thing. The brake is just always “open”. As soon as you put weight on it tho the brake locks the rope
Different spec for rope size though. Won’t work with oplux
Lmfao he said "just for speed sake" 🤣 🤣 🤣
As someone who is new to wanting to learn how to do this can you list all the essential equipment you use to complete this climb? From your belts to your carabiners, ropes, etc?? Thanks
It’s listed in the description
My tree lounge goes up a tree in minutes and is incredibly comfortable.
Gonna need some extra sentlock with all that sweating deer gonna wind u NC has almost zero humidity its the mountains
Why don't you have a video of you doing this before sunrise?
I am thinking about getting into saddle hunting but I’m thinking the figure 8 descending system is the way to go, on top of being super simple and controllable, they are stupid cheap compared to the mad rock safe guards
Nothing wrong with using a figure 8. I started out with one but eventually got a madrock safeguard.
ive been using climbing sticks with my tethrd mantis, but this system looks way more effecient
It’s a good system on straight trees but hunting out of it this season I have found that it’s not great on gnarly trees.
Get a lone wolf climber
I guess the only serious thing I think that would be problematic will be trying to get down if I drop something haha. Now I'm reclimbing and sweat twice as much.
I got the 3 step aider and think I'll cut that bottom aider off , I can only use it at my first stick placement. I have 20" steps also. I've actually got the same setup even the cruzr saddle🤘
It’s a heck of a system! If you decide to cut the bottom aider off you could probably use a lighter and run it along where you made the cut and it shouldn’t fray.
Or if you are worried about fraying you could message DanO at EWO and mail your bottom step back and he could make you a 2 step aider.
@@theunsuccessfulhunters4198 each aiders sewn on the sides so I believe a lighter would do just fine , I'm gonna hunt with it a few times before I deside weather it should go or stay
@@jpdeerhunter35 good call👍🏼 thanks for commenting
This is dangerous man!
Why?
Great for younger guys and gals ..
Good presentation glad to see demo with boots. Too many are in summer attire and not realistic
Thanks for watching!
A self climbing deer stand hell of a lot easier and faster
Walk a mile into the woods with a climber then come talk about it
I do every time I hunt and my 15 climber is way better then this horse crap and cheaper lmao 😂
Mine doesn't way anything..I was army infantry so I'm use to humping shit on my back so maybe I just don't notice it lol
I will just stick with my lone wolf climber 🐺...much quicker
I love how people love to hate on innovation I'm sure when climbers first come out people made fun of them too and just cuz you can't afford it doesn't mean you should make fun of it
What part of NC? I e been wanting to try the one stick method but I don’t know anyone who does it
After watching your video I bought your exact same setup. How do you wrap the cordage on the platform? Do you just wrap around the platform like serving a bowstring? How do you terminate the ends? I’m originally from NC also.
Yes basically just like the serving on bow string. Nothing fancy or pretty by any means😂 I just wrapped the crap out of it so it wouldn’t make noise.
Hey, cool video!
What‘s the device you pull your rope back with, after you rappeled down?
Apeciate your answer!
Doyle’s gear hoist
Yeah I believe I'll use my climbing tree stand in about 5 minutes I can be where I'm at 20 feet up ready to hunt.
Lol imagine doing that an hour before light on a 25 degree morning with snow coming down. No thanks
With rubber boots and alot more clothes.
Lol!! I was just thinking that here in Michigan
Snow, ice, 30 mile wind and no safety harness...
Man I'll be in my house eating breakfast and having coffee
then hunting.
@@jefferyneedham1581 no safety harness? The saddle is literally a safety harness.
@@jefferyneedham1581 Tell us you don't know saddlehunting without telling us you don't know saddlehunting....
I woner if SRT wood be faster ? that would be a good content.. You should do it :) I live in the U.P. so i have to buy one lol great video bud!
Thanks for the support man!
With having to get your rope into the tree first, SRT is actually a tad bit slower. Both ways work great though. DRT is another great option
Throwball and drt. Way easier, faster and more quiet. but this works too.
I need to try drt for sure!
Are you still happy with the EWO Ultimate Platform with 2 step aider? Anything you like better now? Can you stand upright on the platform for a short time? Thanks.
