Yeah, you should be able to DIY this for real cheap, just replace the plastic steps with rope stirrups. It would be very slightly heavier, but better than tossing $400 at the problem. It would also likely be better to replace that ratchet strap with a cinch strap to cut down on the noise. EDIT: Rope stirrups didn't work. I used triangular wooden blocks reinforced with $0.85 galvanized steel angles, instead. A little heavy, but it works great.
@@RealGrandpaBullFrog Yeah, you can get a comfortable climbing harness for $36, a 32' nylon climbing rope for $19, and a set of carabiners for $25, all certified for climbing.
Have you checked the price of an Amsteel rope attachment anywhere online? Not to mention the cost of the mold to make the steps. Business is expensive , much more than the cost of materials. Good luck to you all!
I don’t know why this style isn’t as appealing as sticks but hey guys on the edge I use these and I get to the top of my tree fast and all my gear is packable on my waist or in my bag, no clanking or any catching on brush like climbing sticks. I have the cam buckles on my steps not the daisy chain and I utilize the dump pouch for my steps. I have used this style for going on four years. Have killed COUNTLESS deer and never questioned this method or felt like I needed to switch.
Went to your website. It sure would be nice to just be able to add some individual steps to the cart to purchase. I have a pack, and would be inclined to add some steps to my setup for use when I want to use them vs having to just purchase an entire kit need.
This company’s are laughing all the way to the bank!..☝️🤣🤣 I can’t wait till we’re in the future looking back at this style of climbing!!!. I want someone to do this while drunk🤣🤣🤣
Ive only done mobile tree stands (backpack style). Those is way lighter and more mobile but looks like less comfortable by having to stand for a couple hours?
@poobank for me it's more comfortable on my back. I know it doesn't look it but I'll net of you took a poll the saddle overall would be said more comfortable by those who use both.
Saddle is the way to go. Unless you’re hunting out of a lay-z-boy or a fancy mattress you’ll have a tough time finding something more comfortable. Climbing can be a little sketchy if you’re used to a climbing stand or a nice elevated blind but a little practice goes a long way.
Mobile tree stands are so limiting directionally. You are exposed in front of the tree and locked pretty much in that direction with a little bit of side movement. With a saddle in general you have the tree blocking your body from the deer usually, and then almost 360 around the tree. Much more flexible.
@adamlaroux3488 i can, I've done it multiple times! My hips hurt, and my knees ... but not my feet! You can keep the pressure off your feet all together if you want... it a the saddle that is more important... these steps are designed to be comfortable! Check out the reviews 😀
I love the idea. I just don't know why the steps weren't made with a "lip" on the end to keep your foot from slipping off. I can't imagine how sketchy this would feel if your boots were wet
@@JaredMurray-qp7pj the steps are angled slightly upward. That causes your foot to be driven toward the tree and keeps them from slipping off that way :) thanks for asking!
@bluegrassdroneguy3495 well, you are correct in that the linemans rope is a fall suppressor and not a fall preventer. It is up to each individual if they choose suppression or prevention. It is not a requirement for either but I advise never leave the ground without a linemans, it's up to you after that. Thanks for the input! Have a Blessed day and good luck this season.
@@bluegrassdroneguy3495 except when stepping on to the ROS, I recommend attaching your fall prevention to you and the tree before stepping into the platform.
I have an open shot. I love that thing. But, started saddle hunting this year and honestly don’t want to go back. As a public land mobile hunter, it’s hard to beat. I can go in anywhere and find a tree to get up in. Being lightweight, I can go in pretty deep and not feel burdened with that frame on my back. Just good for thought.
They are 14.99. We haven't tested and don't recommend using them woth any steps other than the Platform Steps for Climbing. There design makes it happen!
@lovetogun3611 with a saddle your able to take alot of the pressure off your feet and knees , it's surprisingly comfortable as long as you have a comfortable saddle!
Whoever is watching this. Don’t do this. Incredibly unsafe. He’s climbing way above height necessary to paralyze or kill you if you fall. He’s not tied into the tree, he’s relying on a loose positioning device (lineman’s belt) as his primary lifeline while climbing. He’s standing on incredibly small plastic steps with rubber boots. Just because it’s fast doesn’t mean it’s safe. This is not safe. If your foot slips off one of those steps, nothing is going to save you. Your face will hit the tree and you will slide down it.
It can be made quiet. I use a little Hoppe’s 9 Lube on everything that moves. Cut some stealth strips up and carefully arrange them. Also, when in an actual situation where stealth is matters, move with firm grasps and careful consideration.
You can do it silently. There's the release on the ratchet and the locking tab that click. Locking tab clicks as you tighten and release clicks as you move it the other way. Using 2 hands you can hold the locking tab open as you tighten and let it down once the handle is all the way forward. Hold the release open as you go the other way with the handle. When releasing the ratchet you can un-ratchet it one click at a time so you don't have the pop like normal.
as a 67-year-old 6-4 240 I will take my Lonewolf assault climbing Treestand at 14 1/2 pounds over that nonsense any day. Tiny little steps held with para cord to a tree that could slip out at any time. Nope.
a very dangerous set up, wet boots slip or mis-step your gonna rack your balls on the tree, the rope or the step. You may even fall to the ground. Saddle hunting is the most dangerous set up. Do not use!!!!
