- Jeffery and God argue about a speech made by Ben Shapiro. Like many apologists, Shapiro tries to reconcile a timeless god's uncanny resemblance to an ancient culture. Is it because an all-powerful God needed to accommodate His own creation, or simply because the culture created the god?

As of November 17th, I've been on UA-cam for 10 years. Devastating were the algorithm changes in 2014 that hurt animators so much, and then the adpocalypse shortly thereafter that would've made animations like this extremely difficult without patrons. So thank you thank you to my patrons, and also thank you to those who have shared and liked my work over the years, helping me gain so many millions of views and hundreds of thousands of subs with just 160 videos. I have been an atheist all of my life. I started dating a Christian woman who implored me to seek out Jesus, to repent and to profess my belief that Jesus is the risen Christ who died so that I could see the kingdom of Heaven. To ask for his forgiveness and receive the gift of eternal life. So I did, I prayed harder than I ever have before and sincerely, with all my heart, asked Jesus to be my personal savior and give me the gift of eternal life, to come into my heart and help me to live a life that was pleasing to him. I used to be a Christian, and one of the things that always bugged me was the fact that one of the signs of the end that were given was the explosion of knowledge as a bad thing.
Adam and Eve were literally forbidden from eating of the “tree of knowledge.” All the bad shit that happens today, according to Christians, is because eve went against god and ate. Kids get cancer because eve ate an apple that god said was a no-no. It’s not god’s fault, it’s the kids’ because free will. Doesn’t matter that the kids are innocent since their great great great great great x1000 grandmother Eve is not. They will suffer for her mistakes. Doesn’t matter that god exists outside of time and thus knows all that will happen including that eve was gonna eat the apple, he still created her and bossed her not to anyway. It’s all quite something and I thoroughly enjoy watching religious nuts attempt their mental gymnastics (Olympian level honestly) to make sense of something so utterly and contradictorily nonsensical.
I mean look at we’re doing to the planet as well as to each other in our economic system. We definitely don’t know how to use it responsibly.

Save Net Neutrality Anti-Republican this comment is perfectly truthful.
Depends on the cause. Climate does change. The Medieval Warming Period is “just how it was back then.” So was the Little Ice Age. Both colder and warmer climates before modern industry.
“Change” isn’t a virtue, it’s a verb
Michael Whittmann The fact is that it's changing too fast for evolution to be able to keep up with it. And if it keeps this up it'll reach conditions where life as humans would be impossible. And the fact is that it's our fault, so our ancestors and us should've taken responsibility for it. Unfortunately; they're dead, and they were too busy trying to stay alive in a civilisation that could've provided for their needs while scientific research increased. Obviously, fossil fuels will account for a lot of that in the meantime; but we have to make the best of a bad situation, even if that "bad situation" has existed for a long time.
The difference is what changes improve the human condition and what degrades it. While I am not a Christian, I can recognize the general good of the Judeo Christian Moral code upon our society. The Atheists can be technically correct about biblical discrepancies but wholly wrong about religion and it's positive effects.
"That's the problem with ambiguity YHWH, what if you were as unambiguous about slavery as you were about working on the Sabbath. Same here, however, I live in a South-Asian Muslim country, I want to be a closeted atheist so I hide. I can confirm that it explains ALL abrahamic religions in the best way possible. Side note, Jeffery/Geoffrey seems to be more moral than god which does make sense.
I found his video about what if man had obeyed God and not eaten from the forbidden fruit. When I watched that video for the first time, I was so offended. I was triggered. I was so angry and begging God to forgive Darkmatter2525 for the horrendous sin of blasphemy.
Nowadays, as an atheist, I love that video so much now and all of Darkmatter2525's videos. This channel is absolutely amazing.
When Yahweh supposedly revealed his laws, everybody was polytheist. Yet, for some reason, he didn't feel a need to compromise and say, "Alright, alright, you can worship golden calves on Mondays and Thursdays...but I get the rest, and Saturday is MINE, got it?" It's only on issues of actual morality (rape, slavery, etc.) that Yahweh "had to" compromise with "the times."
Actually this is somewhat incorrect. What they did is they said “okay, your gods are real, they are just not gods, they’re saints” that’s why many saints are similar to the gods in the area they were established. Not to say the video is wrong, just that your remark is.

Yes, but Paul (a Hellenized Jew knowledgeable of the Greek language) was most likely referring to the practice of pederasty, effectively state-permitted pedophilia, not blanket homosexuality as we understand it.
The context here is that the ancient Hellenes seems to have conceived sex as an issue of dominance, with the male (with the penetrative organ) being the dominant partner and the female being submissive, and so it was shameful for a man to have sex with another male in that he subjected himself to being penetrated, to fulfill a woman's role.

I was repulsed but could find no arguments that you hadn't already addressed. 5 years ago I fully renounced faith. If you hadn't sown that seed I'd probably be in a loveless marriage ready to pop out my first child.
Thank you. On some level as ironic as it seems you were my saviour.
Good Story. I'm 17 years old and I left Anglicanism 4 years ago. I've been secretly an atheist for all that time living with my parents. It was these two videos by DarkMatter that truly influenced my change:

I'm glad you found this channel and didn't make a lifelong mistake. I wish more people had your courage, because it takes lots of it to do that. If people were more honest with themselves and others this race wouldn't be so doomed
I was raised Catholic; one year, I gave it up for Lent and never went back...
Jokes aside, while not atheist myself, I agree with many of the points made by atheists I have come across, most notably DM and Sir Sic.
Glad you dodged that bullet.
or teacher at least..
Even if a god did write the morals that he did because of the times, the obvious course of action would be to continue to give moral instruction, even if it was every 100 years or so. Even primitive people could understand the moral code, "Don't enslave other people."
The issue is that some religions have councils to update their beliefs while others treat the bible like a standard for all time, sort of like the US Constitution
Love your neighbor as you love yourself and love God with all your strength mind and spirit are pretty well defined and when it comes to slavery its easy to see that this defies those two laws. Slavery in the sense that the OT expresses is not what it means today and is easy to see by comparison of the laws involved in the mosaic law and the actions of modern slave traders and such. Christians are the only ones that came to the conclusion that slavery is wrong which is why it was ended in the west altogether and this is evidenced all over the globe where as the atheist dictators enslave and murder millions of people and atheism has nothing to say against that except that it wasn't really wrong. Its just a subjective matter of opinion. And Islam was built off the backs of slaves and jihad so that's the other side of the box.

I was watching the old DarkMatter stuff and am like "Damn, did I miss the episode God and Jeffery went to a plastic surgeon?"
That said I miss the goofy voiced fig leafed Jeffery character. It made things a little lighter.
There's at least 3 timelines in this canon.
1: Cherub Jeffery replaces God due to winning a bet. To my understanding, this was never expanded upon.
2: Power Corrupts, which implies the cherub stuff was just the simulation.
3: The cherub stuff but it exists as fiction in the real world (not the Power Corrupts world), as God is able to be chronologically and physically manipulated by humans in editing.
Jefferey reminds me of the guy from Moon Knight
I was just about to say...did Jeffery suddenly grow up somewhere? 😯😅
Yeah, I do believe fig leaf Jeffrey was a big boost to the success of DarkMatter's video career - clearly the perfect mascot for the show!! When my brain thinks of DarkMatter videos, the first thing it sees is Jeffrey bouncing up and down in the air.
Actually, if you take a closer look you’ll notice Jeffery actually wears a HEMP leaf. He even got high off it by accident once.
The music when Jeffrey and the antagonist are walking among the pyramid sounds wonderous. It's "Atlantis" from the UA-cam Music Library.
It's awfully coincidental that the most secular time in human history (our time) is also the best time in which to live, isn't it? 🤔
Kinda depends on who you ask there. I really enjoy not having polio and all, but taking everything into account, in alot of ways the modern era kinda sucks.

Ironic, got a Shapiro prager u ad before this video.
Interesting
Isaac Alsop that's great. Just meant Shapiro paid Darkmatter to mock him. 😅
good ol' prager u lol
seriously is there a way to never get ads from them?
I have to say this was actually really solid argumentation
"You're asking god for an impossibility"
- Shapiro
"...then why call him god?"
- Epicurus
This argument always strikes me as relativism in the vein of cultural relativism "Oh, that's just the way they were back then" "That's just how people were" is the same in my mind as "that's just their culture and you shouldn't judge them for it", no, if something is wrong it's wrong no matter if it happened in a different time or if it's happening now in a different culture. Either things are wrong or they're not.
That is also an appeal to tradition. It is an intellectually dishonest argument.
No, right and wrong is only relative to a conscious being. Without consciousness, there is no right or wrong. To a Bear, it is right for it to maul a human to death in self defence if it gets too close and wrong for the human to shoot it. To a human, it is wrong for a bear to maul it to death and right to shoot it in self defence. A planet doesn’t care if it gets hit by an asteroid. A hydrogen atom doesn’t care if it is split in the core of a star.
Right and wrong is very much relative to culture for humans, but always within mostly consistent boundaries set by the sense of “morality” which humans have. A homogenous sense of engrained biological morality is a very useful trait for surviving and thriving in social groups. But morality can evolve separately to our biology, within different cultures, caused by the similar social trait of the desire to fit in. This is where the noticeable differences of “morality” in different cultures appear. If your family and friends think that making animal sacrifices to appease the gods makes the crops grow bigger, then you’ll likely think the same, and will greatly reduce your chances of reproduction if you don’t, meaning the next generation will be even more likely to have the desire to fit in and follow the culture of their community.
They didn't have the knowledge or the language or the concepts. Yeah, right.
They had the words for "good" and "evil." They had the word "slave." How hard would it have been to tell them that slavery was evil rather than giving them lots of rules about how they should keep their slaves?
If it was too hard to teach them stuff, how come it was possible to devote all those words to telling Moses how to construct the tabernacle and the priestly uniform and the sacrificial rituals? And then essentially write it all out a second time saying "Moses built the tabernacle out of fuckit wood with brass rods two foreskins in diameter, etc., etc., et-fucking-c., repeating every fucking instruction instead of saying "Moses did what he was told."
Oh, and it's not just cultural relativism, it's racist (at least the way many talebangelical Christians preach it). "The Jews back then were too ignorant and stupid so gawd had to wean them with animal sacrifices and barbaric rules." Except Judaism still has those rules, although they've toned them down somewhat and animal sacrifice is only for really special stuff (like rededicating the temple, if it ever gets built). So the Jews are *still* ignorant and stupid according to talebangelical Christians. The Jews insist (rightly in my opinion) that Jebus was a false prophet, a failed Messiah and not even the son of God, let alone God himself, and that's the reason they've stayed with Judaism. As far as I'm concerned, all religions are ignorant and stupid, not just one particular sect.
@@idot3331 : wrong. Moral objectivity exists, and you proved it yourself with this rebuttal using your bear example. Simply acknowledging moral relativism IS an act of moral objectivity. If you want another example, look at the scientific method.
Yeah but the problem is when people start deeming things as "wrong" when in reality some behaviors are not right or wrong and not your business.

Whenever people say to me that god condoned slavery "because the jews wouldn't follow anti slavery laws anyways" and that "that was just their culture" or "they wouldn't understand", I make this analogy:
Imagine you are a father of a 5 year old, and you just discover that your son has been stealing candy from the market every time he goes there with you. You then discover that he has been doing it for quite some time, so much that it has become an habit. He just grabs what he wants. He's not kleptomaniac, but he still doesn't understand the concept of stealing and why it's wrong. What you as a father would do? 1- Say to him that stealing is wrong, explain why it is wrong, enforce that rule by making him return the stolen candy and watch his behavior. 2- Do nothing because he's not going to follow your rules anyway, and someday a guard or policeman will get him and he will learn the hard way. 3- Create a rule stating that he can steal only from Walmart and Target and that he can only steal less than $10 worth of candy at each visit.
Anyone in it's sane mind would tell you that any parent that chooses options 2 or 3 are really bad parents. People would get outraged if there was a parent who actually did option number 3. But god in the bible chose option 3 regarding slavery, and people still think he's a loving, caring and good father.
MrYondaime1995 omfg omfg this is amazing
@formless777 Target would do the same as Walmart if they were as big. They already do as much as they can get away with.
Otherwise I agree with what you said.
That's funny, I've been using a scenario with two children stealing sweets for years now, but my purpose was to highlight the ludicrous concept of an eternal Hell.
*IF* any human behaved remotely like the gods of the bible, torah or quran are purported to behave, they would be sectioned.
@formless777 Well I'm not from the US so I don't know why walmart gets so much hate.. I just went with the famous supermarkets haha
@alic seprin you obviously don't have children.
It's funny to me how Yahweh "gave" the promised land to his "chosen" people, when that land was strategically and environmentally disadvantaged compared to its neighbors, and then allowed those same neighbors (who didn't worship him) to profit from their advantages by conquering and exploiting that same "promised land."
The Amazing Atheist made me an atheist....DarkMatter made me agnostic.
It wasn't this video, but other videos of his (Like the Muslim, Christian and Atheist meeting God) made me want to believe in a God like that.
I still can't prove or disprove the existence of something that is unknowable, untouchable, unseeable, but I would like to believe that if a God does exist, he would not be so petty as to condemn almost a hundred billion throughout history. A God that might actually want more to do with people that think for themselves, rather than follow the dogmatic teachings of millennia old books.
Jeffrey would be a great God, which is strange that he both plays God in some videos and yet not God in the main series.
I like the ominous tone of this video, the music and cracks of lightning are like a terrifying apocalyptic judgement of god's failure
Yes...
Yeah. It seems that this was when Yahveh failed his exam.
i guess god being omni-everything is somewhat similar to characters in an anime or something being too op and ruining the story. They wrote themselves into a corner, 3000 years before anyone started doing it.
Literally said this too, if they never said he was omni-everything he'd be more believable, however he wouldn't be God. Too many plot holes and it doesn't add up and everyone knows it.
Same way people pick and chose what to follow from religion they pick and chose what parts to believe
