    Alice, this was very informative for me! I never knew that biotin can cause breakouts. I’m ok with just taking multi-vitamins daily, however, I’m sure I need something more. Great video, Alice.

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  5 років тому +1

      While there aren't any studies confirming this, it seems to be a well-circulated idea online. I suspect that excess biotin would be the problem (simply because excess of anything often has repercussions, and some hair and nails supplements go so far overboard!)

    I absolutely respect your science background. FWIW, I take a hair, nail, and whatever supplement, and I can tell you it does one thing, and it does it well: it makes my hair and nails grow like weeds. It doesn't make them thicker or more lush. It just makes it grow fast (and that's ALL hair, so I'm shaving my legs daily.) If you color your hair, you'll be coloring it a lot more often.

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  5 років тому

      I've noticed the same effect myself, especially if my diet isn't the best it could be! But yes, it definitely can't ever change the structure of hair. I think that's why some people end up disappointed with hair supplements - while they can potentially make some changes, they can't ever turn thin hair into thick hair!

    Thank you for kinda stressing that unless a dr tells you that you have a deficiency, don’t do much in the way of supplements...people are very casual about ingesting stuff produced by an under-regulated industry. (Stay safe people 🙂) I’ll note that I did have supplements prescribed to me before, so I’m not “anti”....just “proceed with much caution” on the matter.
    I try to use natural deodorant because one sister and I are sensitive to many of the traditional ingredients, and another sister has basically been told she can’t use antiperspirant at all, ever again. She’d get nodules in her underarm that had to be surgically removed. She isn’t even supposed to shave now (she jokes that she’s glad she can look like she’s making a political statement instead of having a medical issue 😉) I’ll have to check out that brand you featured...I’m always up for finding decent ones to add to the rotation (I like fortune cookie soap brand a lot)

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  5 років тому +3

      I love your sister's sense of humor! Yes, I definitely have....feelings regarding the industry. You'd think that there would be more regulation on what you put into your body!
      At this point, I am making the choice to keep using these deodorants - it's mostly "if it works, then I'll use it!" for me. But you make a good point - I've heard about other sensitivities related to anti-perspirants. I'm happy I finally found one that can rival my Secret (or... Suave 😂)

    My favorite natural deodorant is Meow Meow Tweet. They sell it at Target. I did find that the Eucalyptus one was most effective, but I don't dig the smell so I use the grapefruit one which still gets me through a solid 48 hours without stink. I've never been a huge sweater or stinker though. Aren't hair and nail vitamins just glorified multivitamins? I take my regular multis not always very consistently, but when I do take them consistently my hair and nails do grow faster to an annoying extent.

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  5 років тому +1

      Some of them definitely are, others focus more on biotin (actually, the vast majority focus on biotin), and the most daring affect hormonal changes in the body (I think this is too drastic!) But yes, a multi-vitamin will help you fill in any gaps in your diet, and a marker of deficiency is brittle nails.
      I'm happy to hear there are antiperspirant alternatives that work so well! They've really put the effort into formulation, which I respect!

    Hi Alice, I've been taking Phyto for months which was prescribed to me by a dermatologist and have spent not only on these capsules, but also Bioxine shampoo, Bioxine ampoules and Ferroglobin, due to my thinning hair. He did run tests to see if there are other issues. I dont even use heat/style my hair anymore even though I used to, 3 years back.
    However, despite religiously using these for approximately 5 months im worried about their actual efficacy. I take extra cod liver oil capsules as well, idk hoping it would be more effective. Phyto does make my nails grow but i cant see the same difference for my hair. Ive been to various doctors, trichologists as well but nothing seems to work. So im stuck...with balding at 21... lol.

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  4 роки тому

      I'm sorry to hear, hair loss is quite frustrating! It sounds like you're doing everything right (getting the lab tests to get to the bottom of the issue is SO important). Adding cod liver is smart as although it will not help hair grow, it will help to balance your omega levels and your new hair growth will be more shiny and smooth (basically, adequately nourished in the growth phase). Is your doctor looking into hormonal aspects? It's a tricky one to address: some OTC supplements do address it, but at the risk of altering birth control effectiveness (scary thought!) Phyto does not, which is why I recommend it more comfortably - but it's always at the back of my mind that this might be the reason some people swear by Halo, etc.

    I use a natural deodorant called no pong and it changed my life. It doesn't stop you from sweating but it stops you from smelling. Which is ok for me because that's my only concern. I'm incredibly sweaty and sweat from everywhere so stopping that just isn't going to happen. But I use no pong on my pits and I don't stink anymore.
    Sounds a bit like an ad but honestly it's the best thing I've ever used. The tin it comes in is recyclable, and it's made by a small business here in Australia which I really love.
    I was extremely skeptical because I've got a medical/science background and was very pleasantly suprised that it works. That being said I'm still highly unlikely to try any more """"natural"""" products because I think 99% of the time they're a total gimmick and waste of $$$$$
