Dorman cabin filter kit 259-200.
Thanks man mystery solved. I used my oscillating tool with a hook razor blade. It cut the door out in 60 seconds. I then used my Shark vacuums car detail accessory kit that has a small vacuum tube and cleaning tools to clean the Evaporator coil surface.
oscillating tool! brillant. I was gunna use a dremel but I forgot I have an oscillating tool too!
Thanks for the vids. You have more patience than me. I had a 2012 Sierra and never changed mine just because of this- I think you’ll agree that it’s BS to have to cut anything and go thru all that to just do simple maintenance on your truck. Sure- could take it to a dealer and let them do it for $150 or more- just to change a simple filter. It’s a racket.
This is not to change a filter, there was no filter in the first place.
I think you did an excellent job for people out there that don't have the shop tools that they need but I agree with some of the others that GM did this for reason probably so later on you would have to buy an accumulator for the AC which would be very expensive but thanks for the video, good job
I used some pliers and ripped it out piece by piece. Works very well and efficiently

I’m Chevy guy..but why didn’t GM put a filter in in the truck..🤷♂️..we not too happy about this GM..they are cheap..why???We pay a lot money for a new truck and GM can’t even put a cabin filter in the truck..

It does seem like patience is really key. I am going to create a way to use a heated blade to score the plastic then remove rest with a utility knife. Then clean up cut. I will use a vacuum to extract fumes while using hot blade. Hopefully it works and I can make a video.
I would place a welders heat pad on carpet for added protection. Also a thumb drive ratchet would work better. Harbor frieght 3 piece for 6 bucks.
Excellent Idea, heat gun or hot knife had not crossed my mind when i was doing this conversion but sounds like it would work great.
I would recommend a drimmal tool for cutting. I think I may try this. Since I already purchased a cabin air filter from Napa that evidently does not exist. 2007 GMC Sierra pick up.
Not sure if it applies to your 2007 but I had a 2002 and changed mine a couple times. There’s actually 2 filters. Both in the same slot. Just 3 7mm screws to remove the bottom cowling under the pass side dash. And a tip! Remove the 2 that are easy to get at but only loosen the 3rd one that’s right above the center “hump” on the floor. Just enough so you can swing the cowling outta the way. If you remove that one you’ll never be able to get it back in. Once you get access, just pop off the filter cover, slide out the 2 old filters, and pop in 2 fresh ones. No cutting or any of that. Of course put the new ones in according to the air flow arrows. Actually fairly easy and it does make a difference with fresh filters.
Not a pleasant job to do, but flip the filter around, so filter is against the core. BUT it'll work. I've used a hot knife or a solder iron with flat tip and it will really make fast work of cutting the alot out. A great GM design. Nice job

Well, I was pretty excited about this project. Ordered the kit, pulled the plastic kickpanel off and realized my 2013 1500 Silverado LT uses a different blower housing. There is no blank slot to cut out. I’m bummed!

Thanks for the video. They leave it out to save a buck. I had a Jeep Cherokee that didn't have one. I had to have the AC evaporator coil completely replaced. They had to tear out most of the dash ...$1500. It's worse in a humid area as mold grows on it from the condensate. The Jeep stunk terrible.

Nice video, however it looked like the filter was installed wrong, air flow is right to left. Was there a arrow on the filter?
How did you clean the inside before putting the filter in
Used air compressor and blew it out the best I could. Wasn’t too bad, did a little vacuuming also
Why did the 2012/2013 Silverado come without a cabin filter? Clearly, by having a space for it they knew it was important. Then, entombing the access like they did was plain dumb imo. Any insight?

Good job on the videos! I wonder if we'll have a problem with the self tapping screw that holds the door after we have to replace the filter several times.

I pay top dollar for a top of the line LT pickup and the idiots at GM can't cut out one piece of plastic and add one bolt !!!! I plan to take my truck to the chevy dealer at trade in time and tell them exactly why I'm NOT buying another Chevy Truck. 1. the spare tire nonsense, 2. the cheap plastic gear in the mirror that breaks in 10k miles and this is the last straw.. Screw GM !!! Thanks for the video, at least i know now. 😬
Sorry if it’s been covered but where did you get the replacement door or lid what ever you’d call the piece you screwed on to hold filter in place ??
I was a kit from Dorman, part number was 259-200. Had everything to switch it over.
Did you try to vacuum out the inside of the box?
He said he wasn’t including the cleaning part. I would say a vacuum cleaner with a small soft brush on the hose would do the trick. Be careful not to harm or bend the very delicate fins of the heater coil. Then maybe spray a little gentle cleaner on it with a rag laying below to catch the run off.
Thanks for sharing. I have a 2014 GMC 2500 HD and have been trying to figure out how to get the filter out, I guess I dont have one! Did you have to buy the plastic cover piece that holds the filter in place? Mine doesn't have it.
Yes, it came with the dorman kit that I showed in the first video, but there are several paces where you can buy it separately, thanks.
@ Jacob Solomon, I had the same issue with my 2014 GMC 2500HD too, until I found this video. During 2014 GMC/ Chevy's trucks body styles changed except for the 2500HD and 3500HD body's stayed the same as the 2013. Its an odd ball when looking for parts. I was getting nowhere until I typed 2013 and found this video. I hope this makes cense.

Nothing on my 2012 Silverado even looks like this none of the plastic pieces under the glove box with the fan motor even match up to 8 videos I looked at. Called Chevy dealer and asked, some Silverado not made for cabin filter I evidently have one of them.
That would be correct, not all of them had the cabin filter, this video shows how to add one to a vehicle that did not have one. Hope this helps.
Awesome video. I have the same vehicle and O’Reillys keeps giving me a filter that that does not look like the one you installed. Can you shoot me in the right direction to get that filter and cover?
When i made this video, the Dorman Part Number for the kit was 259-200, that should still be a good number, but they can change over the years. As for the filter, the Dorman filter in the kit, is quite a bit different than the normal filter from GM. The Dorman filter has a plastic frame around the outside, The GM filter is made completely from fibrous material so it can flex easily into place. Either one will work for a replacement after initial installation. Hope this Help. Thanks for watching.

I don't get it! Looks like there is already a dirty filter in there on the left side. Seems like you're putting a clean filter beside a dirty filter. Confusing!
Mr ed that was the heat exchanger. GMC should of put the filter before that for obvious reasons. Had they put a filter in to begin with.

I feel the same way, not sure why they did it that way.
So you have to bring into there dealership when nothing comes out of the vents.
They do it to save a buck, hoping the warranty will run out first.
They want you're accumulator to go bad on your AC that way you have to buy a new one and then that's going to cost a lot of money
That is so weird that there's no filter to start with to actually change it. So where did all the debris go if there was none to start with?
There's also a bi metal filter in the engine bay, have fun with that

I have a 2013 Nissan 370Z and it was 100x easier to replace than my dads 2013 Silverado. GM sucked at this...
This is pointless if it stinks and you’re putting a filter in it 10years later. It will still stink because the coils and duct needs to be clean. GM needs to be held accountable for this
