I love how they not only subtly called Zoey ugly but become complete stereotypes of Black women when a White girl dares to date a Black guy. Zoey has done nothing wrong yet these miserable entitled click-clacks are treating her like she is some kind of racist when they are the ones ironically being racist.
That’s not the reason, clearly it’s something that has happened before..it’s not rare for guys especially black guys (not all) to say they only want white or Latina girls and consistently put black girls down especially in middle school so u always have to take to count that it could be a triggering situation, being overlooked and dismissed simply based on your race can hurt.. I agree Zoey did nothing wrong and they did apologize for the miss directed anger towards her.
@SnixX DeVaughn yeah but the thing is Zoey clearly didn't know that and they are acting like she should know because "what other reason is there" and then call her entitled for basically not being a mind reader
@@snixxdevaughn3267 yeah, guess what anyone can choose not to date someone for any reason. Plus the guy in the episode didn’t even say anything to them, at all so he also didn’t do anything wrong. If a person doesn’t want to date a certain person because of their race that’s their choice. And if people keep barking on about how problematic it is than that is not only entitlement but it’s extremely manipulative as well. If someone not dating you because of your race, gender, ability, etc is a problem in your life than you are very privileged to where you can consider that a problem.
it’s mostly dijonay and lacienega who isn’t black.. maya doesn’t care and michael is a gay boy following the crowd, penny cared for zoey.. you need to simmer down
@@marvelousmia But isn’t LaCienega Afro-Latina. I know she’s light skin but that doesn’t make her not Black. Michael still sided with them and even acted offended that a Black man wouldn’t date within his race. As well it took for Zoey to approach them and tell them that she was in the wrong is also extremely messed up.
"Then why go out with a boy who only likes you because you're white?" Michael.....our queen...... Before she came to this party, she literally had NO IDEA that was why she was asked out because nobody told her and nothing about the boy telegraphed to her that was the reason. And when Zoey gave a legitimate defense against LaCienega's question, Dijonay immediately dropped the argument saying Zoey "just didn't get it", acting like all of this was on her. Dijonay, you didn't even attempt to further the conversation. Almost as if she knew she didn't have any reason to be upset in the first place. Ugh, I hate this scene and how they treated her here.
Dijonay knew it was no use arguing with her the second Zoey disregarded Michael’s statement. Zoey chose to disregard it and act like Noah wasn’t a racist. It’s the same when white people choose to ignore racism and prejudice despite having relationships with those people of color. I felt like Dijonay didn’t act right (neither did Penny or anyone else), but her response made sense to me and it made sense she didn’t wanna associate with her. And to clarify Zoey did know. She was in the Face Call and heard the entire conversation.
I don't like how Dijonay acted or LaCienega acted either, but I feel like this showed a very accurate portrayal of how people their age act, and I think in some ways, this is what people need to see - a realistic scenario with flawed yet understandable characters. I didn't watch the whole episode, but to really let this sink in, I think somewhere in the episode they should address what is the wrong way and right way to handle these kinds of things, so that the intended audience (teens) know how to deal with this kind of situation.
I don't think that's what Disney think this is healthy, they portrayed them as toxic and not understanding but since they need "high school drama" to happen. It's end up like this.
@Tatar Chan maybe you are right, Disney probably know what they want but have people that they are telling to make “ teen drama” are super woke so “teen drama”= “let’s have these kids tear each other apart to push some sort of agenda”
This episode mishandled the entire discussion that could be had over colorism. 1. At this point in time "Noah only dates white girls" is secondhand gossip from Maya's supposed cousin. Not one person from this group approached Noah to get confirmation of it from him directly. Nor did they ask him if there'd been anything else about Zoey that might have caught his interest. Instead they latched onto that as a reason to hate Zoey/make Zoey the problem for why Noah overlooked them. 2. Zoey was completely in the dark about the above. She wasn't fully IN the vid chat with them, only managing to squeeze in when they made the decision to exclude her from the party and call her "Becky with the red hair", but not the reason of why they were excluding her. Naturally she's upset because her supposed FRIENDS are excluding her and talking smack about her behind her back out of jealousy. Not once did any of them approach her after Maya "dropped the bomb" regarding Noah's preferences. Instead they let their jealousy and pettiness build up until it exploded. 3. When they finally confront her regarding Noah only dating white women, of course she denies that she'd date a guy who only sees her for the color of her skin. Zoey isn't a person that would appreciate that. She's right in calling out their jealousy (what is the actual root of this mess) and points out they were there when he asked her out. They completely forget she WASN'T there for Maya's comment. To her perspective, she was finally the one noticed over her "hotter" friends. Remember that she initially thought Noah asking her out was a joke because boys typically don't ask her out. She's awkward, geeky, and isn't portrayed as attractive as her non-white friends. For once, someone chose her and instead of being any form of happy for her, her friends are first stunned and then turn on her and it's not until this blowup at the party that she's told WHY. 4. They instantly attack Zoey in a manner meant to tear down her self-esteem. Look at Lacienega's comment: "Seriously? Has any other boy EVER asked you out to a dance?" This is meant to demean Zoey and reiterate that she ISN'T AS ATTRACTIVE/DESIREABLE as the rest of them. When she counters that Myron, a black boy, has repeatedly asked her and if that meant that he only asked because she's white, not one of them has a retort to that. Instead they drop it, say she doesn't get it or they're done with the drama, and walk away but then continue to talk smack about her behind her back. All this shows is that to them it's fine when Myron, a geeky/undesirable black boy, asks her out but it's not fine when Noah, an attractive/desirable black boy, does. 5. When Zoey is the only one to confront Noah (offscreen, so we are still not given his side of anything like WHY he prefers white girls), Zoey dumps him when he confirms he'll only date white girls. She's not given a REAL apology for all the crap they did to her. And when Noah walks in with a conventionally more attractive white girl (one he initially IGNORED in favor of Zoey) NOT ONE OF THEM say anything TO HER about it. They don't do to her what they did to Zoey. And none of them say anything when Myron and Zoey dance. The double standard and hypocrisy be real. 6. This episode glosses over the fact that BOTH Penny and Dijonay have boyfriends they were willing to drop instantly when they through they had a chance of getting Noah's attention (or rather EXPECTED to get his attention). Nor do they touch upon that fact that Maya's dad's are an interracial couple and if colorism played a hand in their attraction to each other. All-in-all, this episode did nothing for the discussion on colorism and just showed the jealous/catty nature of the group. It portrayed them poorly and all I felt is that Zoey deserves better friends. Lacienega's behaviour was expected because she's always been a b*tch. Dinjonay's always been a fairweather friend. Michael was catty af and took pleasure in talking behind Zoey's back. Maya did nothing but stir the pot. And Penny wasn't a good friend because she was just as jealous/hurt that Noah didn't find her attractive. She failed to stand up for Zoey despite telling Zoey she hadn't deserved the treatment she got.
I agree. A lot of proud family episodes are done pretty well, but it's so surprising seeing how poorly executed this was done. I don't know if the point of this episode was supposed to be that black girls can be bitter racists too, but the whole episode was in poor taste.
I absolutely hated that they were willing to drop their friend of 12 years instead of confronting the random guy they don't even know. They aren't really her friends.
Oh, wow, I hadn't even thought about Maya's dads also being an interracial couple- dude, why DIDN'T the episode let them give their two cents on this? We've got an example of a healthy interracial relationship, we could've watched them together and then been showed an example of Zoey and Noah interacting- comparing a relationship based on caring about one another as _people_ vs one based specifically on wanting a partner of a certain race. They could've ILLUSTRATED Noah's colorism and why it's a problem instead of just discussing it happening off screen. You made so many good points, there was just. So much missed potential in this episode. This could've been really good commentary, and in practice it just wasn't.
Maya literally never does anything but stir the pot. She's always trying to be a quirky activist and its downright annoying. She's only in the show to promote a social justice message and is close to being Velma level annoying.
And she deserves to find happiness. Instead of being mean, everyone should have supported Zoey in finding someone better than Noah, who likes her for her personality and not her skin color
@@thadream_13_10 Zoey HAD to apologize first. Even when Zoey arrived with the rest, intending to apologize, LaCienega was hostile. And yes, then Laci says that "Noah is the real jerk" but in the end no one confronts Noah. It's Zoey who had to deal with all that hostility.
Zoey is hundred percent in the right in this case (she tends to follow the crowd which is why I'm saying that), if the others did a good job of explaining their side and came around because they thought the guy was for real THEN were proven right but felt bad, it would have been a good episode.
I think the issue is that the side they want to argue is that she shouldn't go out with him because she's white and he's black. And even if he has more of a liking of white girls, why is that a bad thing? I can understand if in the story we find out that the guy dates white girls for a little bit then dumps them, and the gang was trying to show Zoey he didn't really care about. But that's not what happened. They wanted Zoey to bow down to their demands, more so they treated her like an outcast for something she couldn't control. The boy likes her for what ever reason. They other girls made her the other. But I haven't seen the full episode. I wouldn't be surprised if Zoey finds out and get mad. Going back to the girls they aren't arguing from some place of love for their friend, but some deep pit of hate. When I was a kid I never remember them treating Zoey like this because she was white. The show didn't seem to care that much.
Honestly, Zoey is right they are jealous because if they really cared about her, they would’ve explain to Noah that there’s more to Zoey than just her being white and told him all the different positives to her personality. I don’t think Noah is a jerk only because he dates white girls because we haven’t seen him talk negative about any other race in the episode. And let’s not forget penny and Djonay were simping for this guy even though they both have good boyfriends.
Hey... Do You imagine that like a plot twist Noah asked Zoe to hang out for something like a love of childrod? Something like he met her before become famous and when he saw she again he decide do what he didn't have de Brave to do in the past? And then the Friends end like stupids? I like a plotwist like that...
Its funny because they were also toxic ass friends in the original show too (including Zoey at times) so they really stayed true to the source material lol
Why are they mad at Zoey? Shouldn’t they be mad at the guy? Or, better yet, just be happy for their friend? Do they really think Zoey is that much of a loser that any cute guy wouldn’t want to go out with her?
And if they really thought he was colorist and only chose Zoey for her skin color, shouldn't their first thought have been "He's so shallow, Zoey doesn't deserve a guy like that"? But no, they didn't really care about Zoey, they only cared about themselves not being chosen. They were jealous and used colorism as an excuse.
Zoey said Myron had asked her three times Zoeys so called friends did not assume Myron only likes white girls because he’s not popular, he’s a nerd and gets treated like an outcast but since a famous black boy asked Zoey out Zoeys so called friends turned on her. This wasn’t just an episode based on skin color, this was an episode based on jealousy.
Knowing them they'll pull off some kind of mental gymnastics to claim that Myron does only like white girls and completely ignore the fact the Myron has been askings and trying to get Penny to go out with him ever since he first appeared!
I don’t think that was the intention though…they only started acting shady after that girl mentioned her cousin knows he only dates white girls. And I think it’s a bullshit argument that he likes Zoey for Zoey cause he barely spent two seconds with her 😅Not saying Zoey can’t pull in guys…like I would’ve liked her cause she looks interesting and fun (nerdy girls usually are!) but once someone said he only likes white girls, immediately, I’m going to think that’s why he made a beeline for Zoey. The only part that I don’t like is how her FRIENDS didn’t stand by her. If a guy is using my home girl cause of her skin color, I would want to have her back. Not turn on her and abandon her.
Whats really sad about this is this creates Trauma with Zoey, she never considered her whiteness a factor as to why a black guy would ask her out, and this affects her deeply because her friends put the idea in her head, people she trusted. Now everytime a man of different skin color asks her out, shes always gonna second guess her own worth as a person and it takes away her self confidence. And the worst part is her friends ACT like shes aware of this and still going with it and their insulting her self worth in the process.
I hate how this episode tries to blame colorism for the conflict in this episode when colorism was never even the root of the problem. The true cause of the break down between this friend group was jealously, jealously couple with horrible communication, back biting, and gossip. Colorism was just a convenient excuse, it's used as an excuse by Penny's fiends to mistreat Zoey and it's used as an excuse by the writers for the characters to act appallingly. This episode was never really about colorism, rather it was a conflict about about horrible, two faced friends discussed as a conflict about colorism.
It IS discrimination as well because you CAN NOT like a person out of skin color. That is objectification. Thou you are 100% free to pick whoever you want that includes ACTUALLY liking THE PERSON and a skin tone is NOT a personality.
The absolute worst part of all of this? They don't even know for sure that the rumor about Noah is even true. Maya just claims her cousin told her that. (Yes, it does end up being true, but they take secondhand gossip as fact)
They were horrible to Zoey. They pretty much just called her ugly to her face and are mad at her because a guy they liked asked her out. Even if her being white had nothing to do with it, Dijonay and Penny already have boyfriends. Plus, they’re doing the same thing! They only cared about Noah bc they thought he was attractive and a celebrity. They were being just as superficial if not more since they were willing to tear apart their friend like that. They aren’t in the right at all for treating Zoey that way.
"Myron" I saw the look on their faces after Zoey Mention about "Myron" (The Black Nerd) that is the same type of look people in my own community gave me Implying "He dont count" or "He's not Black Enough" and their version of "Black Enough" is a Street Thug another Stereotype without saying those exact words
What didn’t Myron went from “geek to chic” because of rumors now up till the end of the episode that all they taking to heart a rumor with no poof so far.
This plot was set up for failure either way. The way it turned out, it's sad because it feels like the show is saying that Zoey does not deserve to be liked by someone. But if it had turned out that the guy did not care about Zoey's race, then the episode would've seemed dismissive of issues of race.
Nah the episode was realistic on so many levels. Yes it was toxic and messed up that the circle made Zoey feel like she was unwanted but as young black women they weren't entirely in the wrong to feel some type of way about that guy strictly being into white women. As black people thats really offensive to see and hear about another black person not liking other blacks, especially ones that happened to be successful ones. Didn't you notice how when the guy asked Zoey out in the cafeteria the girls didn't really find it messed up until they heard he ONLY liked white girls? That's offensive and that's what made them upset. Also it's realistic that Zoey found out that the circle was right and that he was only into white girls and that's why he wanted her, because in reality the brothers do be like that 9 times outta 10. It's harsh but it's the truth. Alot of black people have preferences that involves not dating other blacks or strictly liking white women.
It probably would have helped if Maya had any proof to the rumor instead of "my cousin told me" while never looking up from her phone. The "white chocolate" remark from earlier just made the situation more confusing. 'Cause Zoey was right, when she got Noah to confess, she dropped him like a hot mess. They've known her for years and they couldn't just give her the benefit of the doubt until they got to the bottom of it?
Not only all that but they try to make this seem like racism, when it doesn't necessarily has to be. Noah (and everyone) can have preferences, that doesn't mean we are racists.
Not to mention that even if he was only interested in white girls, that’s his prerogative. No one has the right tell anyone else who they can and cannot be attracted to.
This makes me miss Sticky. He wouldn't have stood for any of this and called them out for what they were doing to Zoey. He could have told Zoey what was going on as well or gone to Noah about it. He was the straight man after all. Why couldn't they have given that role to Maya? She was all about not liking Penny when they met because she felt fake yet she's wandering around with LaCienega and she starts all of this with a "rumor her cousin told her", regardless if it was true or not. Then again, they didn't listen to either of the boyfriends, so I doubt they would have listened to Sticky. This group is lost without a straight man to tell it like it is.
Yeah, this episode needed to 1) have at least someone defend Zoey (I'm pissed Penny's mom didn't step in and get on the girls case), and 2) have someone talk to Noah and find out the truth (because even though he only dates white girls, if it's just his preference, that needed to be brought up and acknowledged as a legitimate part of dating and not something we should be appalled by).
@@MasterofRoku no wonder Maya's adopted. I wouldn't have blamed her mother for dumping her at the nearest fire station if she knew how much of a bitch her daughter ended up growing up as.
0:30 Wtf is Dijonay upset about tho? Isn't she already in a relationship? Isn't she with the dude she was simping over episodes ago because of his ethnicity?
Telling your friend the only reason a person asked you out for your skin AND then making fun of them for only being asked out a couple times is wild. And they painted Zoey out to be the villain this whole episode 😂😂😂
I don’t even get why DiJonay and Penny are so upset when they literally have two boyfriends. Both of whom have darker skin than Noah. And both of whom are ignored because their girlfriends are too busy being mad about Noah rejecting them. So if anything, both Penny and DiJonay are doing exactly what they accuse Zoey of doing. So both Penny and DiJonay are taking a serious issue and are being hypocrites about it to hide what’s really going on here. Which is that their egos are bruised.
Scenes like this make me wonder why any of them are friends. Zoey is like the only only genuinely nice person of this group, even Penny has her moments.
Now I get how it makes black people feel to notice how other blacks strictly like going after White people in relationships, but as far as Zoey goes it was completely wrong for them to make her feel like she was unlikable. Yes they were in the right to feel some type of way about that guy only liking white girls, but making Zoey feel ugly and unwanted was messed up.
Just a thing I want to say now, the thing that bugs me very much here is not only the fact they are ganging on Zoey because of her boyfriend's preferences, but especially what LaCienega said. I mean, she already knows that Zoey feels self concious about her appearence, and yet she basically said that guys would not usually consider her as a possible girlfriend. I mean, I get LaCienega is prickly and that she is offended right now, but that is no excuse to treat a friend like that, especially because she hates when people laugh at her feet
And then LaCienega cries for all the bully for her feet and Penny cries because all the world hates her and forgets her (the episode when BeBe and CiCi grow up)
I hate how they wrote this episode. Not only did they frame it as “reverse racism” but they portrayed Black and Latina girls as bitter because a white girl got more attention from men than them. Even though the two Black girls already have boyfriends! They could have actually challenged the problematic notion of Black men seeing Black women as unattractive and masculine compared to entice women and started an intelligent conversation about misogynoir and colorism within Black men but instead made it so that Black women are just jealous bitter nagging shrews.
You know the two NICEST people in their friend group are like, constantly shat on by everyone else- And each other. Like honestly I don't think their shitty behavior is addressed once either last season or the season before. What really gets me is the idea that "undesirable" people should only be with each other, and if a slightly more "attractive" person finds THEM attractive, there's an ulterior motive. I mean, we're just gonna gloss over the white chick he blew the kiss at earlier- That he passed up for Zoey, right?? What about EVERYONE ELSE in the school who was fawning over him? I promise you everyone in that crowd probably wasn't a poc. And more conventionally attractive than Zoey. Wouldn't he have just chosen the hottest white girl or. . .? The real episode should've been about how some black people see interracial couples. But, no, Zoey is the unattractive white girl so she has to be wrong. A better ending would've been having a heart to heart with the guy and, oh look! He didn't have a racial bias at all! Or, if you really wanted to pair her with Myron, just make him weird for some other reason. But don't validate them bashing her because SHE was the one asked out by the pretty mixed boy and not them. But let's be honest, a show that doesn't portray dark skinned people that well anyway wasn't going to write a good episode on this The tone really doesn't know what it wants to be. Like, Zoey says: "Why didn't you say anything?" And it frames them in the wrong. It frames their catty, jealous behavior as wrong. But then they're proven right at the end and it's just?? Tbh even if they were right she shouldn't have went back and she DEFINITELY shouldn't have apologized first.
Tbh, I like that they are framed in the wrong. Because they are. Yes, the dude is pretty sus and probably sees black girls as inferior, but everyone was still awful and terrible to Zoey, taking their anger against her as Penny stood idly and allowed her friend to be trashed.
what a bunch of (BEEP)holes. Penny, Dijonay, and Lacienega have had multiple boyfriends all threwout their lives. Yet Zoey gets one and shes in the horrible person here because the guy who wants to date her has a preference? Zoey came out of this as the bullied victum in all this
Honestly it seems like they were triggered and clearly didn’t know how to handle the situation leading to their anger being misdirected. I personally don’t think dating based off race is a preference it’s more of a racial bias.
It's almost like they don't want her to be happy with any boy not just because it's Noah. I also think it's a double standard that it's ok for them to have a boyfriend but not ok for Zoey?
I just can't believe how terrible friends they keep in their lives! If I were Zoey, I'd cut their toxicity off completely and find people who actually deserve to be my friends! By the end of the episode, they tell Zoey it wasn't her fault; and yet through the majority of episode...they treated her like she was at fault! Seriously, why is this show bent on keeping such toxic relationships?!
If they wanted Noah to be a sleaze they could've just had him ask out girls he thought were plain to take advantage of their insecurity. But Zoey's 'friends' would still find some other reason to jealously gang up on her instead of calling out the guy taking advantage of her like in the actual ep 😂
Unacceptably, it was a total disappointment that Zoey wasn't on the guess list during the Disney costume party when she was being rejected by her friends because she was hanging out with an African-American kid who took likings of her while she's Caucasian but an actual ginger. Thus, Penny's friends (except for Penny) should be very acceptable on Zoey's terms choosing the correct path otherwise their friendships would be a massive permanent decimation for bringing everything to their cause. I strongly agree with Zoey, all different types of races should find true love for themselves for each & every one of them with a perfect match whether it's an interracial relationship or not. Technically, I truly think it has nothing to do with a kid liking Zoey.
To be fair, it's not like Zoey had Penny's back nearly as much when the latter was often ditched. The difference here just happens to be over a boy asking Zoey out. And how does the crying not feel deserved? She obviously tried to still keep the peace, and when Zoey points out that Penny didn't say anything to defend her earlier when they were all there, Penny's tears let you know that she feels guilty for that, and she knows that a simple apology wouldn't be enough at this point.
There are times when it helps to keep the peace but this wasn’t one of them. When other people are bashing on someone else & you KNOW it’s wrong, that’s when you stand up for them instead of just trying to keep everybody happy.
I'm actually so pissed because this could have been the scene where the entire episode straightened things out and actually gives young people a lesson on colorism, but it fumbled so hard and just made everyone look awful.
This is a conversation that needs to be had but based on how they raised and handled it, I wish it was left alone. They shouldn't have poke the bear if they were not ready to face him. :'( Some of you in the comments would've been great for writing an episode like this.
Penny and Zoey are real besties but I don't know if I like this situation in the show it can cause a lot of problems of people take it the wrong way instead of using it as a learning experience.
I agree with several comments on here is that Dijonay and Lacienega were being vile to her based on the factr that Noah only dates white girls. If Dijonay ever said to me that I don't get it, I'd say, "Ok girl, tell how do I not get it?" I agree with Zoey that everyone is flat out jealous of her that a cute boy asked her out. For real Zoey needs better people in her life.
And even if it turned out he did have a preference for white women, it's what he finds appealing. I don't someone should date someone simply because of their skin but there's nothing wrong with having a preference. Not only that, they didn't even have any actually proof he was only dating Zoey for her skin. They heard some gossip, thought Zoey was ugly, and knew she was white. THAT was literally the only "evidence" they had for assuming it was entirely based on race. Not "oh, maybe he likes shy girls" or "oh, maybe she makes him smile" NOPE. It was 100% race and nothing more.
Actually the ep wasn’t even about preference for white girls , but because the guy only liked them because of their skin color and nothing else ( basically making him the stereotypical popular dude who dates many girls but makes it worse when he is black and doesn’t date their own “ kind “ ) , basically Disney is saying that biracial relationships or even marriage can’t be a thing cause the partner only likes you because of your white skin , and this pretty much runs away from the idea of equality between races and pretty much segregates them more .
@@CaptainChapin Of course not Amiga ! Zoey was brave to go over Penny's house though they tried to exclude her, and she was brave to ask Noah if he was only dating her for being white and then she dumped him when she learned the truth. She handled it perfectly!
To be honest all of this would have been cool. I think it’s realistic for teen girls to be jealous and make it into something else. but it’s the fact that the girls don’t forgive eachother until Zoey apologizes first when it was the others in the wrong first.
Penny is right. Having these talks is always gonna be messed up. No matter what you do it'll feel messed having this conversation even if the person understands and takes measures to fix but not saying anything and ghosting the person is worse because you 1. dont fix anything and 2 just perpetuate the actual problem. all you did was lose a good friend and hurt them in process
Okay if this is about colorism, what if he chose La cienega or Penny(even tho she's already in a relationship) instead? Would they still have been pissed off?
“I don’t have a horse in this race, but I’m siding with my BIPOC friends.” So … Michael is siding with them because they aren’t white. How is that different than Noah, exactly?
The audacity for Maya to go "I don't need all this negativity" when she's literally on the side that's causing it. These people are literally bashing Zoey for racism when *they're* the ones being racist.
It only became "obvious" *after* Maya brought it up. I'd actually argue it wasn't obvious at all. It could have been so many more things. Like Zoey said, maybe he likes tall girls, or girls with glasses. Yes, it did turn out that she was right, but the fact is it was in no way "obvious" Maya is taking an unfounded rumor from her cousin and regurgitating it.
@@drewhaynes1874Are you serious? Are you one of those people who think black men need to be caged into the black community? That they should not be allowed to date non black women?
DIJONAY, WHAT DOES SHE "NOT GET"????? THEY'RE ALL JUST JEALOUS THAT NOAH ASKED ZOEY OUT. DIJONAY GOT A BOYFRIEND AND SHE WAS FLIRTIN WITH OTHR GUYS???? SMH SHE MAKES ME EVEN MORR MAD THEN KORRA
I don’t understand why everyone is giving Noah such a hard time for having a preference for white girls. Everyone has a “type,” that they find the most physically attractive. Noah didn’t know anyone at the school so he just asked out the girl he found the most physically attractive (which was Zoey.) Why they are giving Zoey a hard time about this is beyond me since SHE DID KNOW THAT NOAH ONLY DATED CAUCASIANS. Maybe he did want to get to know her on deeper level, we don’t know. Yes I know that it might seem shallow that Noah doesn’t find girls of color as physical attractive but I want to point out that Penny and the other girls also wanted to date Noah also based solely on physical attraction as well. They only got upset because he turned them down but here is the thing; NO ONE IS OBLIGATED TO DATE SOMEONE THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN!
No it wasn't that. I don't know if you watched the episode or not, but the boy that asked her out had a very offensive preference which was only dating white women, when he's black himself. He only wanted Zoey based off the color of her skin and the girls knew that and didn't bring that to Zoey's attention with proof right away. Yes it was messed up for them to make her feel unwanted, but they weren't in the wrong to be offended by that guy's colorism. Sure Zoey didn't find out until she confronted the guy and asked him herself, which turned out to be true about what they said about him, but still
@@trayweathersby7490 especially considering they DO apologize for not trusting Zoey and being mean to hear at the party after learning she dumped the guy.
Lacienega would have gotten pick over them let's be hosted here she talking about " he only , would date you bc your or white " honey you would be next in line then Penny idk why ..Lacienega is upset.
They not only insulted her appearance but gave her crap over a boy liking her because they were jealous, DJ and penny were supposed to have boyfriends but got mad when a new kid didn't automatically ask them out. Everyone has a type and no one should be shamed for it, the friend group in the new show are so ridiculously toxic they updated the animation they went backwards with the attitudes and messages
Yeah, this episode didn't tackle the problems it thinks it was and instead focused on the wrong issues at hand. 1) It should NEVER have made Zoey out to be bad in this episode, cause she wasn't. She had no responsibility for what that guy's actions were, and to hate her because she was just on the receiving end of what was going on is wrong and her "friends" should be ashamed of themselves. 2) Zoey should NEVER have had to apologize, because she again did nothing wrong, and her apologizing is making it seem like she was in the wrong. 3) What this episode SHOULD have focused on was not "this black guy is attracted to white women, so that's bad", it should have instead focused on the why. Why did he find white women attractive? Was it just his preference? Or was it based on stereotypes? If it was just a preference, the show should have acknowledged preferences as a legitimate part of dating. If he did it based on stereotypes, THAT is when they have the right to be upset and should have tackled that.
It's funny. A lot of Live Action Disney shows are known for having fake friends. A lot of non-Disney cartoon shows are known for fake friends. But Proud Family is the only cartoon show produced by Disney I can think of with fake friends. Actually, Donald and Goofy can be seen as fake in the Paul Ruddish Mickey Mouse show. And the entire point of Anne's friend group in Amphibia is that they have a lot issues to work out, but they do. But those are the only ones I can think of.
Zoey was right in the situation. She's always overlooked and not seen as beautiful. It wasn't right for Noah to prey upon Zoey for her white skin. Being a black feminine and gay man I definitely understand where Zoey is coming from.
The only way this show can honestly be redeemed at this point is if it ends with them graduating and penny and zoey go to college together and ditch the rest of this toxic group
Honestly, in Zoey's perspective, they are only mad because they are jealous And during the episode, that is what it genuinely looks like. I don't think this episode did the topic of Colorist justice. They are all following a rumor, and don't even know why they guy likes white girls more. It might be a preference, it might be r*cism, we don't know
0:57 that's when you know that a good point was made and the opposing party has nothing to properly argue against it Anyway, there were other white girls fawning over Noah, but he literally chose Zoe. I mean, maybe I am wrong but I don't think it had too much to do with that. Even then, they did not address this issue correctly
why do they hate zoey because she dated a guy who liked white girls they liked him too and theyre releasing their anger on her because they didnt get chosen and out of all the reasons, those dumbasses had to link it back to their skin colour if penny stepped up and screamed at them to stop, it would get more chaotic PENNY WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING and we should all feel bad for zoey because she doesnt deserve to get treated that way shes a stereotypical “nerdy quirky tall white girl” why?..
Yeah I agree. If anything, the episode tackled internalized misogyny coming from these girls and it only showed colorism when the girls was going to leave their boyfriends (except Micheal and Laci) for another black boy who is a celebrity with lighter skin.
The guy is a type of man, a type of man the girls recognize as awful to them (black girls). Zoey, by dating the racist boy, is taking his side on the girls' minds. It isn't true, but that's how they feel and so, on their minds, it's the only valid truth. But, instead of warning their friend about the boy, they ditch Zoey and bash her. It makes sense, but Zoey deserved better and Penny really needed to do better.
It’s a shame that Zoe doesn’t understand why the others are upset but they shouldn’t be attacking her because they feel the way they do. They should’ve just explained it rather than “call her out” like it was obvious because it clearly wasn’t to her
I love how they not only subtly called Zoey ugly but become complete stereotypes of Black women when a White girl dares to date a Black guy.
"Then why go out with a boy who only likes you because you're white?"
Michael.....our queen......
Hate how they treated who?
Dijonay is just a thirst bucket who’s mad she didn’t get chose lol her ego is hurt . Zoey better than me, bruh
Yeah I have to agree I hate the whole scene.
I can’t believe Disney was like “ yeah this is a healthy friend dynamic “.
I don't think that's what Disney think this is healthy, they portrayed them as toxic and not understanding but since they need "high school drama" to happen. It's end up like this.
Shame on Disney for putting this junk on tv. Teaching our children wrong!
@@kylec8003 i agree, many channels in usa are unfair, and allways allows a ignorence to come to the tv
@Tatar Chan maybe you are right, Disney probably know what they want but have people that they are telling to make “ teen drama” are super woke so “teen drama”= “let’s have these kids tear each other apart to push some sort of agenda”
This is healthy.
Know what they said silence speaks volumes.
Maya literally never does anything but stir the pot. She's always trying to be a quirky activist and its downright annoying. She's only in the show to promote a social justice message and is close to being Velma level annoying.

It's because all of them knew their argument didn't hold up.

I don’t think that was the intention though…they only started acting shady after that girl mentioned her cousin knows he only dates white girls.

Penny saying about princesses being polite and nice clearly hasn't seen brave
Am I the only one who likes Penny and Zoey out of the whole squad?
Now I get how it makes black people feel to notice how other blacks strictly like going after White people in relationships, but as far as Zoey goes it was completely wrong for them to make her feel like she was unlikable. Yes they were in the right to feel some type of way about that guy only liking white girls, but making Zoey feel ugly and unwanted was messed up.
I think Zoey and Penny deserve way more better honestly. I feel so bad for the both of them
Just a thing I want to say now, the thing that bugs me very much here is not only the fact they are ganging on Zoey because of her boyfriend's preferences, but especially what LaCienega said.
I hate people that try to make personal relationships about them. Zoey needs better friends.
Penny and Zoey need to end their friendship with these people like seriously
But let's be honest, a show that doesn't portray dark skinned people that well anyway wasn't going to write a good episode on this
The tone really doesn't know what it wants to be.
Zoey came out of this as the bullied victum in all this
Ikr! LOL this was horrible tho. Hopefully there was some light in this episode!
This moment felt like a stab with a katana to my heart
1:37 Sorry, but Zoey has more right to cry here than Penny - Zoey rightfully called her out on being no better than their 'friends'
This episode is literally saying that if you have a preference you're a racist
I'm glad they covered the real, important issue of colorism but the message feels ... disorganized.
The fact that theyre all acting like its impossible for someone to genuinely LIKE zoey for herself is INSAAAANE 💀💀💀
Why are they acting like Zoey knew, when she clearly had no clue? They're all bad friends.
Because Maya is a manipulator. It's bad enough they were jealous of Zoey, but then what Maya said turned their jealousy into anger...
Now that I remember this, I think Maya just likes drama.
This wasn't fair, they gang up on her due to one boy liking her instead of making sure he wasn't just seeing her as a fetish
It's okay Zoey... You did the right thing. 🥰
It’s right to get used?
Penny and Zoe are the only real friends of the group
zoey has moments where she was far from a good friend too tbh
“I don’t have a horse in this race, but I’m siding with my BIPOC friends.”
So … Michael is siding with them because they aren’t white. How is that different than Noah, exactly?
Zoey: but…you didn’t say anything.
Penny: I mean you DID abandon me several times when the other girls made fun of me in the past so uhhh.
The audacity for Maya to go "I don't need all this negativity" when she's literally on the side that's causing it.
These people are literally bashing Zoey for racism when *they're* the ones being racist.
actually maya didnt cause it tho...she chimed in on something that was obvious tho, colorism exists and yes it also is racist
It only became "obvious" *after* Maya brought it up. I'd actually argue it wasn't obvious at all. It could have been so many more things. Like Zoey said, maybe he likes tall girls, or girls with glasses. Yes, it did turn out that she was right, but the fact is it was in no way "obvious"
Maya is taking an unfounded rumor from her cousin and regurgitating it.
Zoey you need to escape. I genuinely just want her to move on with her life with better friends.
Imagine your friend saying it doesn't make sense for a boy to be interested in you. Just cruel
I was hoping they would give Penny BETTER “friends” in this reboot 😂
especially disappointed in Maya cause she should called them out on being terrible friends to Zoey and how there reactions were not ok
I think Zoey needs therapy against her so called friends and call them out for their ridiculous hateful things they had said to her to come to light
I hate how the writers are trying so hard to make this scene feel like it's zoey's fault, when it's her group of friends who are in the wrong
They’d have a point if the story was Zoe was dating someone who was racist and there’s a thing of being complacent in racism, but this isn’t that
Even if he is into white girls it’s a PREFERENCE. Everyone has their own preferences and nobody else can control that.
1:43
This is heavy. 😢💔
I’m so disappointed in the writers..
I have to agree with Zoey because y’all just did her dirty and turned y’all backs on her after a black boy asked her out
No it wasn't that.
This is why Logic and Emotions can rarely exist in dealing with relationships.
Racism. One of the worst things in life. 😔
So, does this confirm anyone can cosplay whoever they want no matter the gender?
This is they need to just get a new VA for Sticky and bring him back. He would just tell the girls and Michael how wrong they were about this.
Thing is, both Peny's and Dijonay's boyfrieds said somerhing about it, and they got the death glare for it. Same woild have happend with Sticky.
honestly, penny and zoey just need to leave the others behind. those kind of "friends" can fuck you up.
So much for a perfect love letter to Disney.
But Anne and her friends SOLVE their differences and grow as persons. In The proud family no
Zoey was right in the situation.
Honestly, in Zoey's perspective, they are only mad because they are jealous
And during the episode, that is what it genuinely looks like. I don't think this episode did the topic of Colorist justice. They are all following a rumor, and don't even know why they guy likes white girls more. It might be a preference, it might be r*cism, we don't know
...yo in my 23 years of watching The Proud Family....this is the first time.... seeing betrayed like this...
I haven't seen a moral handled this badly since Aruthers big hit.
Those are one of the saddest moments i've ever seen.
Woooww i thought that pennys friends were toxic back then
But this is a whole new level....
Just wooooww
Penny u really deserve better
0:57 that's when you know that a good point was made and the opposing party has nothing to properly argue against it
Anyway, there were other white girls fawning over Noah, but he literally chose Zoe. I mean, maybe I am wrong but I don't think it had too much to do with that. Even then, they did not address this issue correctly
why do they hate zoey because she dated a guy who liked white girls
they liked him too and theyre releasing their anger on her because they didnt get chosen
and out of all the reasons, those dumbasses had to link it back to their skin colour
if penny stepped up and screamed at them to stop, it would get more chaotic
PENNY WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING
and we should all feel bad for zoey because she doesnt deserve to get treated that way
shes a stereotypical “nerdy quirky tall white girl”
why?..
They should’ve just explained it rather than “call her out” like it was obvious because it clearly wasn’t to her
Exactly
Are you slow?
