Hey I’ve recently got ue5 and I’m looking to start making stuff like this, as a beginner do you have any tips on where to start
@@hdhdf2339 What are you aiming to make? Start with the basics and maybe while learning just download a free environment from the marketplace. Start learning sequencer and join frostbites discord, he has a virtual production package with some Star Wars assets and models you can download. UA-cam tutorials will be the best for starting.
@@hdhdf2339 Pretty much just going to reiterate what Kyan said, but yeah, figure out an idea of what you want to make. Once you narrow that down you'll have an easier time knowing what you need to learn first. Are you using Unreal Engine? Great, you'll need to learn the UI as well as Sequencer, since that's the tool used for cinematics. Are you using SWBF2 assets? If so, you'll need to learn to make blueprints as well as materials that work with the assets. For example, when I first started off learning Unreal, I knew I had to build a blueprint for the clones with a customisation system that allows me to change gear, markings and weapons. I learned a lot about blueprints really fast because I knew specifically what I needed to build for the project's needs. Then you can move on to fancy VFX stuff if you wish, e.g particle effects like explosions/blaster bolts, and environment creation using Quixel Megascans assets.
General piece of advise though, start small! Focus on creating a very short video that's maybe 10-20 seconds long. Something that you like working on that isn't too complex. You'll be able to get a good idea of the whole creation process really quickly that way.
You should consider joining our Discord if you haven't done already. We provide various assets and project files to make it easier for creators to make animated Star Wars films in Unreal Engine. Hopefully it can benefit you :)
@@FrostbiteCinematics Thanks I’ll be sure to join.
@@kyanhudson6831 Thanks for the advice
I always get goosebumps when I hear a clone cry out “ For the Republic! “
The separatists had a point
@@breakingboundaries3950 oh they 100% did have a valid point 😂 the republic was corrupt as fuck
@@breakingboundaries3950 Lol they had all the points they were the good guys.
They died for a republic in which they had no say and no rights…
@@SwedishNationalist and once their duty was fulfilled they were cast aside 😔🫡
I was a game tester for Republic Commando. Those helmets at the end gave me chills.
Nice indeed
No way! That's cool!
Man The Clones theme has never sounded more heroic
Yeah, Jambo did an incredible job with the film's music :) Lots of people seem to love it which is nice to see.
That is a good thing!
-Shows up
-Drops epic short cinematic
-No further activity for a month
-Still recommended to me because it's that awesome
Excellent work!
Thanks haha, we'll hopefully have more content to post soon. Just gotta find the time to be able to work on it, plus we're doing some technical R&D work to make cooler stuff in future.
This is simply amazing. I think this is easily the best short I've seen out of all the Cinematic Captures challenge entries. The score, animation, cinematography, camera work, lighting, animation, composition--everything is just amazing. I can't wait to see your next work. Keep it up!
Can’t agree with you more!
ua-cam.com/video/a_cwkApKOt8/v-deo.html this is much better and no it's not a rickroll i'm being serious i swear
Awesome 👏🏼
@@FinanceWageSlave You're right. That one is good. I think the main reason that one feels a bit better to watch than this one is the camerawork. It's a lot smoother and a bit more subtle in its approach to framing the scene. Sometimes less is more after all.
agreed
2 minutes of greatness better than anything Disney has put out in Theaters
Heck yeah!!
Relax lmao
obviously but yes i agree
This is amazing you even included “WATCH THOSE WRIST ROCKETS.”
The Arc-170 coming down through the trees gave me goosebumps, this is sick !
Honestly a live action war movie about a squad of Clones would be a money move
It absolutely baffles me that Disney gets MILLIONS to use for a budget when it comes to a Star Wars movie.....yet animators put this stuff together in their bedroom/office (wherever they keep their computer)
Like, can’t we just get these guys to go in and make the movies or shows or whatever? You know, it seems like the passionate fans actually put in effort into this stuff....and it doesn’t even get close to 5 minutes.
Primarily because Disneys teams were SJW and focusing only on the feminism aspect rather than the story. Their feminist team even admitted they could care less about the franchise, its really sickening imo.
At 1:19 when the Clone Theme kicked in , I really got goosebumps, great job guys, May the Force be with you
0:15 HE SAID THE THING!!! lol, that line takes me back something fierce.
The way the clones' theme kicks in as the 170 flys past was fucking awesome
1:18 I felt that
Why can't we have a SW film like this? Sure, there's already TCW and AOTC but I think, a lot of fans would agree to wanna see a full movie length of something like this short
i think it would be cool if we had live action movies of each major or just simply good battles from tcw tv show
All I can say is: Goosebumps, all, over, my, skin. Wonderful job, high quality of animation, artistic takes and camera angles, and perfectly fitted soundtrack. Simply amazing ❤️
You really think so? The way the clone bodies are just pasted over the River? It’s pretty biblical, the way they can walk on water.
I'm so glad to see star wars being a source of inspiration and motivation for people to learn and utilize animation skills
This feels like a Clone Wars episode come to life! I almost thought the lines were from the Clone Wars and the Bad Batch until I heard the "wrist rockets" line, which Dee Bradley Baker never said. The camera movement looks like someone is actually trying to film this while avoiding the blaster fire. The only issue I have is that the clones who were hit with blaster fire didn't have any holes in them, but other than that, this is real good. keep up the work!
I think they were from Battlefront 2 2017, he said it there
@@Arystanbek98 yeah they were battlefront two lines
yah he did say that in the clone wars when the droids came to kimeno
"wrist rockets" line was in original battlefronts too ^^
He does say that line just not in the show but as an in game line for battlefront 2 (2017)
1:43 that shot of the clone commando with the background track gave me chills
Definitely felt that "For the Republic" Fantastic short!
Imagine how it will look in 10 years? For someone who came up on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, this is absolutely amazing.
I'm a simple man. I see Clone Troopers, I click.
Isn't it crazy that these look real but if you look closer their animations?!?!?! Insane!
I need a new Clone Wars series in this style. Just Clones and Droids on their missions 😄
YES THAT WOULD BE AMAZING
No matter how many times I watch this, simply chills down my spine
This short is awesome! The animation is spot on. The graphics, the movements, all of it looks and feels so real! The camera, the angels, the shots, you did an amazing job on this incredible, bite size film! As a viewer, you can see and feel that this took a tremendous amount of time, but the result was worth it. Awesome job.
Honestly we need more of theses short fan made cinematic clips, as well as the Republic Commandos they are Honestly my favorite outta the clone wars
FOR THE REPUBLIC!!!!
Hope you win!
this is was star wars animated shows/movies need to look like this is phenomenal
This would be a great gameplay intro for a new "Republic Commandos".
When I saw that 170 fly in shivers went up my spine giving me morale
Oml I think you just won sir. Good Luck!
"Animated" - the realism in this is amazing! Awesome job!
This easily captures the spirit of the clone troopers and how they are capable of holding out even in the most difficult of situations. God bless the GAR
Yes. Standing out in the open, trading shots with advancing robots and not even attempting to find cover before returning fire. No wonder they were getting mowed down.
@@MarsFKA yessir 😆
other than the abrupt stop at 1:39, this is the coolest thing star wars I've seen in a long time, no joke Disney needs to hire you and some people for a more realistic clone wars show or something.
and i also get a bit annoyed by the pilot at 1:15 clones dont fly x wings
but still a great video!
@@cart7667 not an X wing.. it's an ARC-170
@@JaredCahill0 Ah well Still it annoys me
0:15 I love that line!!!! Brings back so many good memories
I got chills when the old Clone Wars theme started playing
1:17 when the 501st theme played chills went through my body
…why’d I love the environment so much??? Like, looked like a nice crisp morning or something and there’s a whole war going down. Scrumptious
I’m impressed not only by the quality of this film, but by the cinematography. 10/10
THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE I LOVE IT
I was gonna enter but I knew I was gonna lose, and seeing this, I was definitely right. I hope you win, this was great!
After watching the clones fall from grace in the bad batch, to hear for the republic again was awesome. Epic piece of work right there
This made me genuinely smile. Loving all the SW content we’re getting from these entries, and loved all the CW references in this one. Good job!
Fan made trailers just keep getting better and better!
Absolutely loved it, brilliant! One thing I noticed that I hope helps going forward, is the drop ship swooped in beautifully, then seemed to almost stop dead in it's tracks, where it should have come in and tipped it's nose up for a bit, similar to a helicopter, before leveling off to let the troopers off. Overall amazing stuff though, keep up the great work!
Helicopters tip their noses when stopping quickly up to apply a measure forward thrust from the main rotor downwash. The drop ships in the Star Wars universe are not helicopters.
It’s truly amazing what people are able to accomplish to honor a franchise that they have respect and or admiration for.
Really great short. This was a Clone Wars battle more in the style of the skirmish on Jakku at the beginning of The Force Awakens, much more modern style. I love it!
The music really set the mood.
This is... wow... this will totally go high on the contest!
Wow, I teared up when the clones theme came on.
I think the clone pilot helmet was wrong but other than that good work on the upload
It originally was a proper clone pilot, but that would of involved a face rig, retargeting the animations and and setting them all up in unreal. Wasn’t worth the time for a 2 second shot.
This needs to be a series on Netflix
wow this fan film is amazing good job
Thanks :)
Normally you don/t see planets from different movie groups going into other movie groups but this being set on the forest moon of endor is cool.
This actually gives me goosebumps. I genuinely love seeing stuff like this.
Theres always something dramatic at the start. Love it!
Well done I’m very impressed with how good the realistic environments and armor look
Got goosebumps when he said "For the republic!"
I don’t think I need to tell you how great this project turned out. I had a question though, how did you get such realistic movements with your character rigs? Do you have any tricks or advice to getting that quality motion? If it was mocap, how did you go about it? Sorry, to bombard you with questions, but you seem talented and I I’m working on a similar project of my own right now. Thanks for any advice!
For this project we were very limited by time as well as resources. Future projects will be mocapped using a Rokoko Smartsuit Pro. This one however was mostly made using animation files pulled from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order along with a little bit of custom mocap. Took a lot of work to put together, though not as long as it would have took if we were to either hand-key or mocap it all ourselves. Hope this helps :)
As for working with mocap and animation retargeting, we used Maya for it. Thanks to AlexS189, we were able to use an animation binder using Red9. This was used to map mocap to our custom control rig, then we just used Animation Layers to offset the animation data to solve clipping issues. RenTheHen has a great video on his channel called 'Animating Shadow of the Republic where he breaks down the process really well.
If you want access to some of the tools and assets we used on our film, consider joining our Discord server (link in the discription). We have our content library there, including our UE4 project files and animations. Hopefully it is of use to you :)
@@FrostbiteCinematics lol, shameless discord plug.
this was really good though
@@FrostbiteCinematics You have all the right technology and manpower, but don't have a writer that can tell a human story, without SW lore, with SW characters. It's the same boring shoot shoot shoot shoot kind of narrative. It's really time to move on from SW characters and tell a new SW story with fresh new SW characters, outside of the "Empire." Empire is just bore and done as a villain.
The clones are such admirable troopers! I mean geez their aim was so precise and they were so cool!
Everyone:
Come on Clonetrooper, say the line.
Clonetrooper:
Watch those wrist rockets...
The absolute stones on the ARC pilots to fly through a heavily forested area in a vessel of that size
That was really well made. I cant wait to see another film!
AAAARRRHHH CLONE COMMANDO’S. Am so star struck fr great animation loved it
OMG my jaw was opened all the time, this is really high level !!
I love how they have the sound effects from Battlefront 2
This made me cry. Phenomenal work. Great to see Clone Commandos and Clone Troopers :)
This is an underated film, it deserves more credit, good job.
This is amazing! We need a clone wars show with this level of animation!
Now we just needa wait for the Tukk Tales clone film to be released... can't wait
Yessss! I'm very excited for that to come out, the trailer was great. It hits every mark of the Clone War's criteria.
This is so good!!! very nice editing as well. its dragged a slight bit down by some light/lens effects that does not follow the movement of the camera.
Take for example 0.18 (a ghost flare kinda stocked in the middle of the frame.)
One reason I start to looking for flaws is because you have one obvious one in the first frame from 0.01 to 0.09 its looks like a light leak effect or something. Had it been real it would have moved with the camera movement, or actually it would only really be visible at the angle the light is hitting the leak in the lens. So it would disappear quickly as the camera moves.
A dusty visor effect is also affected by light, where on 0.36 its there sorta just there as a static filter.
BUT REALLY GREAT WORK!!!
Bro this reminds me Galactic Contention star wars mod for Squad. I really loved this man. Thank you for making and sharing this.
Amazing Frostbite! Great job to the whole team :D
When the Republic Clone commandos come in, you know the enemy has lost the battle
Ah yes LAAT with no pilots. All jokes aside great work
Amazes me that Disney Star Wars isn't even a 10th this good.
This is so good I bet you and your team can make a whole starwars series. Im not exactly sure if that would be considered copy righting? But you should definitely considered doing that cause how talented you guys are.
Thanks! :) Yeah, we're looking into mocap for our future films, plus we'll have more time to work on them. There have been discussions about doing a short series someday, once we have the resources and skills to pull it all off. As for copyright, AFAIK Disney seem to be pretty chill about letting the fans make their own film projects. We just aren't allowed to directly profit from it through monetisation, or crowd-fund the films. It sucks, but at least we get to play with their toys and make some cool stuff at the end of the day :)
@@FrostbiteCinematics yes its very unfortunate indeed but atleast you'll may have fun doing it with that said I can't wait for whatever you make next
This video does more than the movies ever do is make me enjoy star wars.
Hey man, this was awesome! I really liked the character movement animation and your depiction of clone ships in atmosphere. What I didn't like was how clones were standing out in the open, but it's a problem with a lot of SW fights. Crossing fingers for your next projects!
well... that was how we used to fight until end of WWI... that's when we change tactics to a more resemblance to modern FIBUA tactics. considering the rate of fire back then was still almost 2s between reloads as single shots rifles, lining the troops up for combined fire seems smart...
@@PrograError "...how we used to fight until the end of WW1..." "...lining troops up for combat"
You don't study history very hard, do you? Did you never hear of machine guns in WW1 and what they used to do to troops "lining up for combat"?
And rifles in WWI were not "single shot" and did not need "2s" between reloads - look up the British Army's "Mad Minute" exercise with the SMLE rifle, also called "fifteen rounds rapid".
Man, I was just getting into it, felt like the intro to a full fledged film.
Me singing along to the Republic Theme: DDOODODOOO DO DO DO DOOO DODOODOD OO DDOODODOOO DO DO DO DOOO DODOODOD OO
Haven’t even watched it all the way through and already love it one thing could make it better is the movement of the droids being more robotic
The animation is on next level, it's truly beautiful, the only thing what bothers me a little bit is the the shaking camera. I know that it makes the scenes more realistic, but i think that sometimes it was a little bit much.
Holy crap. This deserves a full length feature film
This is gorgeous!
Parts of this looks so real, i thought it was a mix of stop motion and animation wtf
This made me get out of bed.. Against All Odds
This was taken to another level, awesome job!
This is absolutely amazing! You totally earned a sub, hope you win!
This is amazing!! When the clones music kicked in I honestly got goosebumps, amazing work I hope you make more of these!! :D
Thanks :) Yeah, we plan on making more short film content like this in future, taking into account all of the feedback we got from this project. It was our first one and we didn't have many resources at our disposal, but hopefully future films will turn out even better since we can spend more time on them.
@@FrostbiteCinematics best of luck to you guys, I can't believe the talent!! it's incredible
This looks better than most big-budget professional cinematics. You could almost mistaken this for a live-action short!
This gave me goosebumps watching it.
How the hell do you even do this? It’s the closest to real life I think I’ve ever seen in an animation. Instantly subbed.
It is a good short, but not that good. Look at the water for example. Would have worked better for me without the water, because this non interactive water kills the immersion to me. But besides that it is pretty good
The sound and camera movement were amazing 🤯
Omg this is so cool, amazing acriona and animation, good luck in the competition although I don't think you need it lol
Animated? Sir that’s more real than live action.
For this epic short, I really wanted to make a fan-made narration, if I may, like those you have in some clone trooper stories (like the 501st Journal). Let me know what you guys think. (I didn't add any planet name cus I wasn't sure which it was)
"Whatever the Jedi thought about this planet, it must've been worth fighting over. Three days since the first landing and already it's clear the Seppies want this planet. What started off as a quiet recon mission turned my squad into the finger tips of the front line. We had no chance. We were the first to face the Seppies' onslaught, from the ground and air. I watched in dreaded confusion as my brothers fell like pawns and their Dreadnought began a bombardment round on our position. I was sure I was gonna die besides my brothers...
As I woke, I almost hoped I was dead. But the aches of the blast reminded me I was not. The Droids looked to find any survivors and I knew I had to try make a dash for it. That's when the impossible happened; our reinforcements came to our aid! I stood in disbelief as an X-Wing vanquished the clankers in front of me and another platoon came behind me. And then I saw them: Commandos! If they're any as good as I've heard, they could just about win this war on their own. Now we can take the fight to the Enemy...against all odds."
That ship was actually an ARC-170, not an X-Wing. But still a good narration!
“What those wrist rockets”
This give me ‘man flashbacks
Lol.
Never used cover.
Couldn't have been more authentic : )
