Just bought the kit. And man I don’t know how I lived all 28 years without it. I’m definitely going to be going the smart route in the future when I settle down and get home.
Thank you for doing this. Best review on UA-cam as I'm new to these so was really unsure in regards to them, the starter kit gives you a choice between with dimmer switch or with smart button which I had no idea which was the best to get, I'm guessing dimmer is better than smart switch right however I will no doubt use my phone most of the time to control it or my Firestick, so I'm not sure it matters does it and is it easy to add dimmer switch or smart switch at any point if you want to anyway? As you can see I'm really new to these hence why I appreciate your time and review so thank you!! :)
im considering buying to my entire home, can i use two physical dimmer switch for the same light? also im assuming each dimmer switch can work only on one lite correct?
Great review! One Question, how does the control remote works? Is it link to all the lights? or you assign the control to just one light. I am moving to a new place with my non-really-tech partner and I would like to create a smart-house and still have the normal switches for her.
I still use gen 1 hue with the original app as it has a simple timer I can just press turn off in 10 mins with a 5 min dim. So I can go to bed with a dim red light that slowly turns off. Haven't been able to replicate with the new app.
If I plug in one of these to a normal light in my room that uses switch, would I need the keep the switch flipped on like if I had just a normal light bulb in my room?
Does it use Google Home now? I have a LIFX light now in one room. Considering a second light now for my study. Lifx seems to have a delay to turn on and no physical remote and the app update about a year ago totally changed the UI to be worse IMO. It also takes a minute or so to connect to Google Home when you flick the switch on.
I have a Phillips Ambilight tv and i can link my Phillips Bulbs Via the bridge to the TV, .. can the Light bars do the same will the ambi light TV detect the lightbars and project whats happening on the TV on the wall IE Colour ? .
If you place bulbs / smart plugs (etc.) inbetween, the zigbee technology meshes, and extends the range, using each bulb to link back to the bridge, if a direct connection cannot be established. Eg; if I have a bulb in my basement, I place a bulb on the floors inbetween, and this will ensure that my attic bulb gets a connection.
Do the switches built into the wiring in your house have to be permanently on for this to work? Also you can control the lights through the Phillips hue app or Home Kit etc, is there any down side to using one app over another?
I have a question, I do not have any router or any of that in my house I am using my Hotspot for everything in my house So al is Wireless. so please let me know if I just wasted my money in getting this because It can't be used without a router
I wanted to know if these bulbs were going to be good for me, as I currently use the C by GE bulbs and don't like them. This seems way more intuitive, and your review/set-up answered all my questions! Thanks!!
Anybody know why the light bars won’t work with google home voice command? The lights work with Philips Hue app, and show up in Google Home but voice command doesn’t seem to work. I used Google HomeKit to allow Siri to voice command but I have to have my phone to do that.
Yes, at least in the UK, you can buy a mounting kit + the Hue dimmer switch. This allows you to stop people from turning on / off the hardwired switch, and gives you access to better controls thanks to the Hue dimmer switch.
You almost sound like joe Elliot from Def Leppard. Thanks for the video. I have had his lights for years, I need some creative ways to put my lights other then lamps. Got a hue light strip too but it’s the first gen
if I dont have internet connection, only wifi router.. can I still manage the light locally via alexa / nest hub? (all devices connected to that wifi router but no internet connection)?
Do you just need to connect it with the router via the Ethernet cable? How come I see others connecting it to the outlet with the weird adapter? And where do I get that from?
I have 3 light fixtures that I would like to control via an app. Each light fixture has 3 bulbs in them. Does that mean I will have 9 buttons within the app for these 3 light fixtures?
I've got an issue with my Philips Hue bulb and the Go light...no matter what shutter speed I use, I get terrible banding and flickers. Would you happen to know how to fix that?
Nice guide, What do you do with your regular old switch you were using before? Do you leave it on for the power supply? or do you never use it anymore?
I'm getting my first pair of Hues tomorrow (Edison fittings), so was looking for tips / tutorial, so thanks dude. UK too :-) I like the look of those light bars that you showed as well, so I'll be getting a pair of those too later on.
I have a hue hub and striplights and dimmer switches. It was all fine until I changed router, now nothing works. It finds the hub but then won’t connect
So glad I found your channel. I just finished a 2 year build on a commercial recording studio. We’re using Philips Hue E26 bulbs in the ceiling and the LED tape lights around the perimeter of the rooms. The problem is that our bulbs are all making a high pitched, constant whistling/ringing sound. The tape lights are quiet. We have NOT installed our dim switches yet, only normal generic wall switches so far. The noise gets louder as I increase brightness on the app. Darker colors barely make any noise at all. Any idea what the issue is? Thank you
How did you sort this out? I'm currently building a recording studio myself and am trying to find a way to control the lighting vibe without creating noise issues.
@@coltond719 turns out it was the metallic material of the lighting TRIMS that were amplifying the noise of the bulbs. We spent months trying to find plastic trims and finally found some. They’re white, couldn’t find black)
My Hue lights turn on by themselves. I’m sleeping and the lights are off. I wake up and they are in various states of being lit. I have four Hue bulbs in my bedroom. This happens almost daily.

Wow the production level of this video is over 9000, it is really a piece of art
Got these for Christmas. 3 ceiling
Lights and two lamp bulbs. They are expensive but they are awesome. Works really well with Apple HomeKit as well.
$3,000 later and you've finally got your whole house lit!
ty took me a while to find a smart lighting vid that wasnt gamer/studio/immersion focussed. just needed basic intro to light my space. thanks!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I finally have my Phillips Hue lights setup finished. My best example is the Dolby Atmos demo. Hello from California.

AD for Philips hue and the lifx bulb in the Google home app :D
Great info! I almost thought you were Murr from Impractical Jokers from the thumbnail
Thank you for this video. Really opened some things about HUE for me.
Silly question, but can you mix and match the bulbs with the hub? Or do all the bulbs need to be the same type?
great video but can you connect the bridge with wifi only? like, for the neon genesis evangelion wallpaper!
Top video! No click bait and easy to understand
Just the type of vid I’m after cheers 💪

Love your smartphone wallpaper.
What sort of deals did they have on black Friday last year?
im considering buying to my entire home, can i use two physical dimmer switch for the same light? also im assuming each dimmer switch can work only on one lite correct?
Does it have to be connected with ethernet caple or can it be run with wifi only after setup?
Hello, one question. Do I need the bridge for the switch to work?
Best regards

I’m considering buying the Hue starter kit and found this video really helpful. Can you turn the lights on, if you are away from the property?
Yes 👍
Is a hue hub necessary to control it via Alexa or Google Home?
Very well done video. Really is this easy. Use hue indoors and outdoors.
Great vid bro!
Whats the game being played at 0:13 ? Looks great!

How does the remote control dimmer know which bulb you want to control? According to what it's pointing at?

Does changing color change all the 3 bulbs together or we can select individual bulb to change color?
You can do it for individual bulbs.

can u connect the bridge in the basement and control lighting in the attic? or do they need to be in some kind of working distance?

Alex Oliver would also like to know this
The physical light switches has to be turned on.
first time connect to the hue hub must press the physical button so another can't use your hub.
Can you use the light dimmer switch for any Phillips hue lights not just the bulbs

You see others connecting it to the power outlet because it also needs power.
Are the ones for behind tv good for actual lighting instead of a lamp

What’s the furthest you can be to switch it ok and off?
Can I switch it on from about 6 miles away...??
How the connect smartphone with this light, without hue bridge
Nice guide, What do you do with your regular old switch you were using before? Do you leave it on for the power supply? or do you never use it anymore?
I thought the same. There has to be a switch in the bulb that turns on rather than the wall switch. That probably has to stay on at all times.
@@GK-qc5ry That's right as the bulbs need a constant power supply whether on or off
First useful comment...
Cool video.
Does this have a speed feature?
Can you make TV content react to the lights? Aka Fire storm turns orange

Yes 👍🏻
Do you need the starter kit for Philips hue or can you buy separately Because i only want the hub and the plays
I bought all the bits individually.
